I missed the discussion in the bug report about that. I'll upload a
.2 NMU ASAP that does not include 2.4 packages.

I have verfified that the actual sources for the generated HTML are Microsoft
Word documents and that those will not be distributed. Does the mean that the
maxdb-doc package will have to be pulled from the repository?

Best wishes,

Martin.

why the following error message appears:

Sort of. Debian requires source for everything that it distributes in
main. If it were not GPL'd, it would still have to go into non-free.

As is, it is not distributable.

Bug#364972: libdvdread3: Patch available

2006-04-26 Thread Ted Percival
Package: libdvdread3
Version: 0.9.5-2
Followup-For: Bug #364972

There is a patch of sorts available at
http://lists.pld-linux.org/mailman/pipermail/pld-cvs-commit/Week-of-Mon-20060213/092097.html
although UDFFindFile is not included in any headers so it still causes
compiler warnings.

I mentioned this in a message earlier in the thread but because it was
to [EMAIL PROTECTED] it doesn't show up by default.

This makes dvdbackup unusable, so should probably be left as grave
severity.

This appears to be a regression in libdvdread3, which dropped the exported
UDFFindFile function without an soname change.

Hi,

Your package is failing to build with the following error:
checking for pkg-config... /usr/bin/pkg-config
checking for openbabel >= 1.100.2... Package openbabel was not found in the
pkg-config search path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing
`openbabel.pc' to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable No package
'openbabel' found
configure: error: Library requirements (openbabel >= 1.100.2) not met; consider
adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a
nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them.
make: *** [configure-stamp] Error 1

The problem is that it's now called openbabel-2.0.pc instead of
openbabel.pc.

Severity: serious

Hello,

This is a serious bug filed against your package because it
build-depends on xlibs-dev, which as announced in [1] a while ago, is
no longer available in sid. This makes your package fail to build from
  source.

[1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/11/msg00022.html

To fix this bug, you need to update your build-dependencies and
substitute xlibs-dev for the list of individual X development
libraries that your package needs to be built. You can find detailed
information about how to do that in the DependsXlibsDev wiki page [2].

[2] http://wiki.debian.org/DependsXlibsDev

As indicated by the Release Team [3], the full transition from XFree86
to Xorg is a release blocker for Etch, which means that Etch will not
be released until this bug is fixed (or your package removed from
testing). So, please, try to fix in a timely manner.

[3] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/10/msg4.html

The number of affected packages by the xlibs-dev transition is huge,
so if you feel like helping with patches or uploads, feel free to
follow the instructions contained in the wiki page above. A list of
affected packages can be found here [4].

[4] http://people.debian.org/~adeodato/release-usertag/transition-xlibs-dev

Finally, if there's a strong reason for which your package should not
be NMUed, please note so in this bug report. Prospective NMUers will
read your reasoning, and will decide if it's strong enough to delay
  their upload.

  Thanks for your collaboration!

2006-04-26 Thread Sune Vuorela

java-gcj-compat-dev:

and java-gcj-compat seems to provide a symlink from usr/lib/jvm/java-gcj
to the versioned dir.

and kdebindings build-depends on the -dev package, and the -dev package depends
on
the other package, but it fails in pbuilder anyway.

I have no clue why this is happening, as everything looks just right.

I'm working on that. A very "alpha" version is already available at

I do agree that lessdisks-terminal is _not_ a candidate as owner of any
of those files, so should be fixed to not violate policy.

What I did above was elaborate on wether those other packages mentioned
also violates policy.

Or put differently: The optimal for lessdisks-client was to work
correctly when installed - moving the needed configuration changes into
an installation script run by the local user is a bad hack: Being able
to reverse the proces simply by removing the package again would be
best. So I want to understand exactly which package then owns the files
that lessdisks-client is not allowed to mess with on its own - in order
to either conflict with those packages or (preferrable, but also
slower to implement) help implement an interface for editing the files.

If e.g. /etc/kernel-img.conf is owned by kernel-package then great - I
don't even need to understand the interface mentioned by Manoj, but can
simply conflict with that package instead. That's policy compliant, but
hey - what about the kernels then? It is only a corner case that they
write to that file, but still...?

Nope - it means that _either_ we'd rather be without the package for
the next release, _or_ we'd rather delay the release to get the problem
fixed.

> I doubt that that's true for the kernel.

I honestly do believe that we want to resolve such problem before next
release. And even if it turns out to be too tricky to solve or judged
too much a corner case, there's also the option of tagging the bug as
etch-ignore.

You tell me that some bugs are inapropriate for the BTS? I know about
the non-disclosure of some security fixes, but those aside I disagree.

Sorry - I understand you now - and that example is quite comparable:
Similar to /etc/inittab, None of the packages assumed owning the file
does properly remove the file on package purge.

Package: pdns-recursor
Version: 2.9.20-1+b1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Severity is grave because it seems this happens a lot, and it happens
100% reliably for me.

The symptom is that the recursor starts answering all requests with
SERVFAIL. It seems that this is because it forgets its root hints,
and has no root servers left to query.

$ sudo /usr/sbin/pdns_recursor --daemon=no --trace

While this does not completetly match upstream's description (mostly
because it happens even with --trace), it might very well be this:

http://wiki.powerdns.com/projects/trac/changeset/658
http://blog.netherlabs.nl/articles/page/2

I wasn't able to get a newer upstream version to compile cleanly, so I
don't know if this is in fact already fixed or not.

Bug#364407: gv: Cannot start GV

2006-04-26 Thread Dr. ERDI Gergo

On Wed, 26 Apr 2006, Steve Langasek wrote:

Then this is bug #362894 in xserver-xorg. gv is unable to find the fonts it

update it to look in /usr/share/fonts/X11 in addition to
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts.

Some work has been done on xserver-xorg to handle updating xorg.conf with
the new paths, but this isn't available yet in unstable.

Thanks, that did the trick.

The current release of bacula (1.38.8 at the time of writing) seems to build

Bug#363303: Bug at update

2006-04-26 Thread Paux Jean-Benoit

When I want to update I've got this :
The following packages have been kept back:
  cpp-4.1 fontconfig g++-4.1 gcc-4.1 gcc-4.1-base libc6 libc6-dev libcairo2
  libdbd-mysql-perl libfontconfig1 libgcc1 libgnutls11 libmysqlclient15-dev

  libstdc++6 libstdc++6-4.1-dev libstdc++6-4.1-pic mysql-client-5.0
  mysql-server-5.0 ncurses-bin postfix postfix-gld postfix-mysql
postfix-pcre
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 28 not upgraded.

If I do a dist-upgrade:
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  libmysqlclient15 pure-ftpd-mysql
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  fontconfig-config libmysqlclient15off tzdata
The following packages will be upgraded:
  cpp-4.1 fontconfig g++-4.1 gcc-4.1 gcc-4.1-base libc6 libc6-dev libcairo2

When I'm looking at the informations of libmysqlclient15off :
Replaces: libmysqlclient15
Depends: mysql-common (>= 5.0.20-1), libc6 (>= 2.3.6-6), zlib1g (>= 1:1.2.1)
Conflicts: libmysqlclient15

I don't know why some soft want libmysqlclient15off and other
libmysqlclient15. It seems that libmysqlclient15off si newer than
libmysqlclient

To reproduce, install postfix-mysql wich require libmysqlclient15off in the
last version and after pure-ftpd-mysql.
The only solution I see is to rebuild the pure-ftpd-mysql with the new
libmysqlclient15off package

to do it.

Looking at the k-p-generated postinst scripts, I see a single edge case in
which the script will offer to write out /etc/kernel-img.conf if it doesn't
exist. Is this what you're referring to?

To be more straight forward about it, I don't see that there's much
utility in pretending we're going to release without a kernel. I would
rather do this sort of infrastructural work in the kernel team channels
directly.

That was what I saw, but since k-p generates the postinst that can,
possibly, write the file, and also ships the manpage, I am torn between
the two interpretations of 'expected use' vs. 'policy violation'. The
edge case also seems to be a corner case for policy, at least from here.

I added the ',' char and changed the rgb path to "/usr/share/X11/rgb"

Info from my system

#> file /usr/share/X11/rgb.txt
/usr/share/X11/rgb.txt: symbolic link to `/etc/X11/rgb.txt'

#> dpkg -S /usr/share/X11/rgb.txt
x11-common: /usr/share/X11/rgb.txt

#> dpkg -S /etc/X11/rgb.txt
x11-common: /etc/X11/rgb.txt

The path "/usr/share/X11/rgb" should work.

/Karl

Package: ghex
Version: 2.8.2-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

ghex seems to have lost its dependency on libgtkhex0 between 2.8.2-1
and 2.8.2-2.

This makes the program unusable, unless libgtkhex0 is manually installed.

Bug#364933: skkinput: FTBFS: ld: cannot find -lXmu

2006-04-26 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Package: skkinput
Version: 1:2.06.4-5
Severity: serious

Hi,

Your package is failing to build with the following error:
gcc -o skkinput -g -ggdb -O -Wall -O2 main.o SeparateWin.o OverWin.o OffWi
n.o OnWin.o cstyle.oskksoc.o skksvect.o skkldic.o skkldrec.o skkconfig.o pa

h.o MyError.o FontMgr.o Canvas.o WmcloseShell.o HistMgr.o CliMsg.o lisp
parse.o lispeval.o kanji.o Kinput.o Ximp.o XIMServer.o XIMClient.o XIMInputMeth

SM -lICE -lXext -lX11
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lXmu

Maybe you're missing a build dependency on libxmu-dev.

But it seems to compile and link without problems without
the -lXmu too. It actually only seems to need -lX11 -lXt.

It seems if you stop linking to other libraries, it can be
build using the following
Build-Depends: debhelper (>= 5.0.0), libx11-dev, libxt-dev, xutils-dev

Bug#363127: CVE-2006-1664: Malformed MPEG Stream Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

2006-04-26 Thread Stefan Fritsch
No, I didn't test the exploit when I filed the bug. I can't reproduce
the crash now, neither with xine nor gxine (gxine is in a separate
package).

The file seems to be asf, and normally the xine in debian can play
(or at least demux) asf. Either Debian's xine is not vulnerable
because some feature is missing or the exploit is just not working
for some other reason. Unfortunately I don't know which.

http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=128838 says that the gentoo
guys could reproduce it with 1.1.1.

Cheers,
Stefan

Excellent detective work! I suspected SWT never worked on any 64-bit
architecture. This confirms one architecture. I'll file a bug against
ftp.debian.org to remove swt-gtk 3.0-6 for ia64. Then I can
concentrate my effort on getting SWT 3.1.2 working on amd64, and
hopefully the other 64-bit architectures by extension.

Thanks for your help,
Shaun

Bug#364920: /etc/reader.conf.d/libetoken is wrong (DEVICENAME incorrect)

2006-04-26 Thread Ludovic Rousseau
Package: libetoken
Version: 0.3.9-5
Severity: grave
Tags: patch
Justification: renders package unusable

Hello,

Note that I am ready to NMU your package if you do not respond within one
week since the bug is RC.

The package installs the file /etc/reader.conf.d/libetoken containing:
# Aladdin eToken
# see /usr/share/doc/libetoken/README
FRIENDLYNAME "Aladdin eToken PRO"
DEVICENAMEALADDIN_ETOKEN
LIBPATH /usr/lib/pcsc/drivers/usb/libetoken.so
CHANNELID 0x0

But when pcscd starts it displays:
configfile.l:106:evaluatetoken() Error with device ALADDIN_ETOKEN: No such file
or directory
configfile.l:107:evaluatetoken() You should use 'DEVICENAME /dev/null' if your
driver does not use this field

Since it is a driver for a USB reader you SHALL not provide a
/etc/reader.conf.d/libetoken file.

Your prerm script can be removed now since the file
/etc/reader.conf.d/libetoken will not be created now

You should have a postrm to restart pcscd after the package is removed.
You can get it from the libccid Debian package.

The patch proposes to remove the generation of
/etc/reader.conf.d/libetoken

Bug#361384: Missing Template?

2006-04-26 Thread Chris Dos
As you know, the same problem is occuring in the libdspam7-drv-mysql package.
Looking at the libdspam7-drv-mysql.postinst script, at the line:

dbc_generate_include=template:/etc/dspam/dspam.d/mysql.conf

Looking at /etc/dspam/dspam.d show no files listed there. Could the problem be
as simple as the templates are missing from /etc/dspam/dspam.d?

Do not bother using unstable if you cannot keep up with changes.

I never upload binaries. But I use a sid chroot and svn-buildpackage. I
don't always use pbuilder.

No. With regards to sarge, there is no bug to fix since executing
arbitrary commands is the feature. There doesn't seem to be privelege
escalation. In my opinion the bug report can be closed.

Argh! Not exactly. It should not call autoconf during the package build
process. It seems the package has soem incorrect timestamps. I will
upload -9 later on which hopefully corrects the situation.

Bug#346354: Is distribution of the maxdb-doc package a GPL violation?

2006-04-26 Thread Guido Trotter

Hi!

I've been asked by the debian release team to look into this bug and see what
can be done to have a successful resolution... The situation seems to be this
one:

1) maxdb-doc is a package which contains some GPL licensed html manual files
2) the GPL asks for the source code (defined as: "preferred form of the work for
making modifications to it") to be available
3) the html files are determined to be automatically generated by a tool called
"SAP Html Export", and the files which originate them are not available

This seems to be a problem only because the GPL is used... Would the files be
under a less restrictive licence we would be perfectly OK distributing them as
is... I'm addressing this mail to the debian-legal list too for a consultation
about whether they think this package is distributable at all or not as is, and
what would they recommend...

Regards, and thanks!

Guido

I believe we all agree that lessdisks-terminal violates Debian Policy
(section 10.7.4): I'll make sure to fix that!

The reason for my pointing to this bugreport on the debian-kernel
mailinglist is that the discussion here seems to raise other issues
(and Stephen is hesitant to file RC bugreports against the kernels).

Noone has so far argued against linux-2.6 having RC bugs, so I might
just take the heat of filing those bugreports myself (forking this one).

Are you able to reproduce this? If so, we need your help as I
can't since xine pretends not to know about the file format of the
created egg file. However, I was using xine instead of gxine since
the latter is not available in Debian. Maybe some non-free
decoders are required? In that case, Debian is not vulnerable
per definition since they aren't shipped by Debian.

Joey

ghex seems to have lost its dependency on libgtkhex0 between 2.8.2-1
and 2.8.2-2.

This makes the program unusable, unless libgtkhex0 is manually installed.

Right now, I'm unable to test it because of #364818. I'll try it again

There may be a bug in libxklavier (and *sigh* this wouldn't be the first
one), but a X server crashing is nevertheless a symptom of a bug in the
X server.

Thanks for your report, I'm reassigning it.

Your sponsor should be checking the buildability of the package as well, not
just accepting binaries you've provided...

Anyway, thanks for the quick fix.

Hi Steve,

I am sorry about that. This happened because of the time passed between
my (correctly tested build) and the sponsors upload. The modular x went
in and apparently some adjustments to the build-dependencies were
needed.

Thanks to Arnaud we have already a fixed package uploaded and will deal
with the remaining build failures (ia64, mips(el)) shortly.

Then this is bug #362894 in xserver-xorg. gv is unable to find the fonts it
wants because the font path in your config is no longer valid; you need to
update it to look in /usr/share/fonts/X11 in addition to
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts.

Some work has been done on xserver-xorg to handle updating xorg.conf with
the new paths, but this isn't available yet in unstable.
