This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. Bug#368013: busybox-udeb: Please do not create a /lib64 directory (this breaks d-i on amd64 and ppc64)
Package: busybox Version: 1:1.1.2-1 Severity: serious Tags: patch Hello, the latest version of busybox creates a real /lib64 directory in the busybox-udeb package on amd64 and ppc64. This prevents the creation of the /lib64 - /lib symlink in the d-i images (the symlink is currently created by the 'rootskel' package for d-i). Without this symlink the dynamic linker is not accessible and consequently the d-i images do not work. Please prevent the creation of a real /lib64 on amd64 and ppc64. Moreover, I think that setting 'libdir' to /lib64 as it is done in 'applets/install.sh' is wrong on all current debian architectures. Even if setting libdir to /lib64 to makes sense on a particular debian architecture, 'uname -m' is not a reliable way to detect the architecture. A Debian 'i386' system may run a 'x86_64' kernel, but /lib64 is the wrong libdir for native 'i386' libraries. Anand and I understand that you canceled the NMU, but please dont trash the whole diff away, it addresses a lot of problems that are old or RC on the BTS (don't be suprised to be NMU-ed with a 30 days old RC bug on your package), and the other are RC packaging problems: - having debian/*.ex files is RC (ftp master refuses packages that have those). - my debian/copyright is maybe wrong (but I really need a clarification on this, so that I don't do the same mistake twice, please tell me) but yours is clearly incomplete (this is also RC) Having both .install and .files files is confusing enough to deserve an important bug. Same is for the non used anymore debian/libosip2.* osip.1 beeing distrubuted upstream and not in the package is also clumsy. the rest (DH_COMPAT to 5, Standars-Version to 3.6.2) is just coemecitc. Bug#355855: marked as done (Putting the internal database in /var/cache/roxen4 violates the FHS)
Your message dated Fri, 19 May 2006 04:47:10 -0700 with message-id [EMAIL PROTECTED] and subject line Bug#355855: fixed in roxen4 4.0.425-1 has caused the attached Bug report to be marked as done. This means that you claim that the problem has been dealt with. If this is not the case it is now your responsibility to reopen the Bug report if necessary, and/or fix the problem forthwith. (NB: If you are a system administrator and have no idea what I am talking about this indicates a serious mail system misconfiguration somewhere. Please contact me immediately.) Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: roxen4 Version: 4.0.325-6 Severity: serious Justification: Policy 9.1.1 Even if the local database only contains cached data, the roxen database and any user-defined databases don't. Therefore the FHS, which states that [t]he application must be able to regenerate or restore the data, is violated. I think it would be better to put everything under /var/lib instead, possibly making /var/lib/roxen4/local a symlink to /var/cache/roxen4/local. $pcdir could also be left where it is now, if possible. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (90, 'unstable'), (10, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.8-proffe-1 Locale: LANG=sv_SE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=sv_SE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages roxen4 depends on: ii debconf 1.4.71 Debian configuration management sy ii hostname 2.91utility to set/show the host name ii mysql-server-5.0 [mysql-serv 5.0.18-8mysql database server binaries ii pike7.6-image7.6.67-1Image module for Pike ii pike7.6-mysql7.6.67-1Mysql module for Pike ii procps 1:3.2.6-2.1 /proc file system utilities roxen4 recommends no packages. -- debconf information excluded ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: roxen4 Source-Version: 4.0.425-1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of roxen4, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: roxen4-doc_4.0.425-1_all.deb to pool/main/r/roxen4/roxen4-doc_4.0.425-1_all.deb roxen4_4.0.425-1.diff.gz to pool/main/r/roxen4/roxen4_4.0.425-1.diff.gz roxen4_4.0.425-1.dsc to pool/main/r/roxen4/roxen4_4.0.425-1.dsc roxen4_4.0.425-1_i386.deb to pool/main/r/roxen4/roxen4_4.0.425-1_i386.deb roxen4_4.0.425.orig.tar.gz to pool/main/r/roxen4/roxen4_4.0.425.orig.tar.gz A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. Bug#368048: pre-depends on mktemp
Package: debianutils Version: 2.16 Severity: serious Hi, I'm filing this bug report just as a reminder for the release team what's needs to happen. Basically, we agreed about it in the bus already: debianutils needs to pre-depend on mktemp (so that after unpacking the new version 2.16 the mktemp binary is still available), and mktemp needs to become essential itself. Bug#366501: bug not reproduceable
To check the problem I have done the following today, and can not find the described problem. Here is exactly what I have done: 1. download etch beta 2 network installation-cd-image i386 built on 20060304 2. default install on vmware langugage=English country=Germany keymap=German other=default 3. Debian software selection: nothing = Now kernel kernel 2.6.15 and grub are installed 4. apt-get install bootcd ssh bootcd-mkinitrd (gets also some dependencies) 5. bootcdmkinitrd (gives some warnings, but works) 6. reboot 7. bootcdwrite (without any config changes) 8. scp /var/spool/bootcd/cdimage.iso to host system 7. boot from cd (without any options) = OK Did you run bootcdmkinitrd ? Does bootcdmkinitrd work in a chroot environment created with debootstrap ? Basically, we agreed about it in the bus already: debianutils needs to pre-depend on mktemp (so that after unpacking the new version 2.16 the mktemp binary is still available), and mktemp needs to become essential itself. Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: caca-utils Version: 0.9-5 Severity: grave Tags: patch Hi Sam, The caca-utils package currently depends on libfreetype6, but it does not use it. This dependency is being pulled in via imlib2-config --libs, which works as designed but is *not* a correct tool for getting a list of libs to link against on a GNU system using dynamic linking. Attached is a short patch which fixes the caca-utils package build to no longer link against spurious libraries. This patch changes the binary package dependencies from this: Depends: libc6 (= 2.3.5-1), libfreetype6 (= 2.1.5-1), libimlib2, libncurses5 (= 5.4-5), libslang2 (= 2.0.1-1), libx11-6, libxext6, zlib1g (= 1:1.2.1) to this: Depends: libc6 (= 2.3.5-1), libimlib2, libncurses5 (= 5.4-5), libslang2 (= 2.0.1-1), libx11-6 Although libfreetype6 is currently available in unstable, due to bug #314385 it is very likely that this package will have to go through a library transition in the near future. Since caca-utils doesn't use freetype, I'm filing this bug at grave severity pre-emptively, to encourage you to get your package free of the transition before it starts. Bug#348604: marked as done (mhash: 0.9.4a version breaks gringotts package)

Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: mhash Severity: grave Justification: causes non-serious data loss Hi, since upgrading to libmhash2 0.9.4a-1, the gringotts package can not read its encrypted files anymore. Downgrading to 0.9.1-1 restored the functionality. gringotts uses libgringotts, which in turn uses the crc32 hash algorithm of mhash. I suspect that the hashing changed between versions, which breaks software using it. Tomorrow I will write a little C testapp that compare the hash output between 0.9.1 and 0.9.4a. Bug#262820: marked as done (rebuild with libtiff4, upload with urgency=medium)
Your message dated Fri, 19 May 2006 14:47:14 -0700 with message-id [EMAIL PROTECTED] and subject line Bug#262820: fixed in gnobog 0.4.3-3 has caused the attached Bug report to be marked as done. Please contact me immediately.) Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Severity: Serious Justification: FTBFS Package: gnobog As of version 0.4.3-2, package gnobog has not yet been rebuilt with libtiff4. Please rebuild the package with libtiff4 and upload with urgency=medium. Note that taking care of this problem is a prerequisite for ultimately being included in sarge, even if a version of this package already appears in testing. No source changes are required; updating dependencies and rebuilding should be sufficient. All packages not uploaded within several days will be NMUed. Many thanks for your patience and cooperation. All maintainers and package tracking system addresses for affected packages have been previously notified. As a reminder, here is a copy of that original notification (slightly edited). Note that since this was sent out, there have been various other threads on both debian-devel and debian-release. --- An accidental ABI change was made in libtiff (upstream) between version 3.5.7 (the version currently in sarge) and 3.6.1 (the version currently in sid). This has resulted in 10 merged release-critical bugs filed against libtiff3g for packages that don't work correctly when compiled with one of these versions and run with the other. Unfortunately, since this problem has been left unresolved for some time, many packages have been compiled with 3.6.1 in sid and have transitioned into sarge where they may not work correctly with 3.5.7. Some of these packages are known to work correctly in sid but not in sarge. Transitioning version 3.6.1 of libtiff into sarge is unaccaptable because it would create incompatbility with woody and third-party applications that were compiled with libtiff 3.5.7 or earlier. To ensure that this problem is fully corrected, sarge will not contain a libtiff.so.3. Version 3.6.1 of libtiff will be included as libtiff.so.4, with support of upstream. All packages that depend upon libtiff3g or libtiff3g-dev will have to be rebuilt with libtiff4 or libtiff4-dev. Doing this update is a precondition for the package being included in sarge. Please note that there were no source-level interface changes between 3.5.7 and 3.6.1, so it should be sufficient to just update the dependencies and recompile. Use urgency=medium when making this change. It will be important for these changes to be made quickly as, once the new tiff packages are uploaded, many packages will no longer be installable or buildable from source. As such, release-critical bugs (severity serous, justification FTBFS) will be filed against any package that still depends upon libtiff3g or libtiff3g-dev a few days after the upload of the new tiff packages, and any packages that have not been fixed and uploaded within approximately one week will be NMUed. Once all packages that depend upon libtiff have appeared in sid, all these packages will be able to transition into sarge together. For additional background information on this solution, please see http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2004/07/msg00071.html and its associated thread. Package: preload Version: 0.2-6 Severity: serious When preload is not running anymore, then running /etc/init.d/preload stop again fails, returning with a non-zero exit code. There's more than one thing wrong here: | galaxy:~# /etc/init.d/preload stop | Stopping preload: preload. | galaxy:~# /etc/init.d/preload stop | Stopping preload: galaxy:~# First, that's just ugly. Secondly, this means that removing/upgrading the package will break, as you try to stop in prerm: | galaxy:~# dpkg --purge preload | (Reading database ... 224414 files and directories currently installed.) | Removing preload ... | Stopping preload: invoke-rc.d: initscript preload, action stop failed. | dpkg: error processing preload (--purge): | subprocess pre-removal script returned error exit status 1 | Starting preload: preload. | Errors were encountered while processing: | preload Saying something like 'FAILED (not running)' when it's not running, and then exiting with 0 would probably work. Bug#347029: marked as done (ogle: FTBFS: build-depends on removed xlibs-dev)
Your message dated Fri, 19 May 2006 20:47:15 -0700 with message-id [EMAIL PROTECTED] and subject line Bug#347029: fixed in ogle 0.9.2-3 has caused the attached Bug report to be marked as done. Please contact me immediately.) Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: ogle Version: 0.9.2-2.2 Severity: serious Hello, This is a serious bug filed against your package because it build-depends on xlibs-dev, which as announced in [1] a while ago, is no longer available in sid. This makes your package fail to build from source. [1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/11/msg00022.html To fix this bug, you need to update your build-dependencies and substitute xlibs-dev for the list of individual X development libraries that your package needs to be built. You can find detailed information about how to do that in the DependsXlibsDev wiki page [2]. [2] http://wiki.debian.org/DependsXlibsDev As indicated by the Release Team [3], the full transition from XFree86 to Xorg is a release blocker for Etch, which means that Etch will not be released until this bug is fixed (or your package removed from testing). So, please, try to fix in a timely manner. [3] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/10/msg4.html The number of affected packages by the xlibs-dev transition is huge, so if you feel like helping with patches or uploads, feel free to follow the instructions contained in the wiki page above. A list of affected packages can be found here [4]. [4] http://people.debian.org/~adeodato/release-usertag/transition-xlibs-dev Finally, if there's a strong reason for which your package should not be NMUed, please note so in this bug report. Prospective NMUers will read your reasoning, and will decide if it's strong enough to delay their upload. Bug#214037: marked as done (zope-zshell: postinst and postrm fail: /etc/zope/ doesn't exist (it's /etc/zopectl/ now))
Your message dated Fri, 19 May 2006 21:17:12 -0700 with message-id [EMAIL PROTECTED] and subject line Bug#214037: fixed in zope-zshell 1.60-3 has caused the attached Bug report to be marked as done. Please contact me immediately.) Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: zope-zshell Version: 1.5-2 Severity: grave Tags: sid Justification: renders package unusable postinst and postrm reference /etc/zope/zopectlrc, and expect it to be sourceable as a shell script. As of zopectl 0.2.6 and zope 2.6.2-2, this file is part of zopectl (not zope); it is named /etc/zopectl/zopectlrc, and it includes non-shell syntax like [instances]. It looks like these scripts need to be rewritten to extract the information they need from zopectlrc, not just source it, and to find this file in the new location. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux halley 2.4.18 #9 Mon Mar 3 09:07:06 PST 2003 i686 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 Versions of packages zope-zshell depends on: ii jaxml 3.01-0.1 Python module for generating XML d ii python2.3-4 An interactive high-level object-o ii zope 2.6.2-2Open Source Web Application Server -- no debconf information ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: zope-zshell Source-Version: 1.60-3 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of zope-zshell, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: zope-zshell_1.60-3.diff.gz to pool/main/z/zope-zshell/zope-zshell_1.60-3.diff.gz zope-zshell_1.60-3.dsc to pool/main/z/zope-zshell/zope-zshell_1.60-3.dsc zope-zshell_1.60-3_all.deb to pool/main/z/zope-zshell/zope-zshell_1.60-3_all.deb A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached.
