Bug#370245: Export control problems in license
Package: sun-java5-jre Version: 1.5.0-06-1 Severity: serious In the copyright file there is the phrase Export or reexport to countries subject to U.S. embargo or to entities identified on U.S. export exclusion lists, including, but not limited to, the denied persons and specially designated nationals lists is strictly prohibited. This is also repeated in French. The mirrors in the US may or may not implement this kind of restriction, but I do not think that the Debian mirrors in Canada (for example) restrict downloads from Cuba. Note that this is different from the clause in the DLJ, which could just be interpreted as a notice about US law. This problem was brought up with Sun [1], but they did not respond. reopen 369863 thanks Le dimanche 04 juin 2006 à 03:02 -0700, Clément Stenac a écrit : gdesklets (0.35.3-2) unstable; urgency=low . * Remove gconf stuff (Closes:#369863) Sorry, I haven't been clear enough in the bug report. I see you have added a rule to remove the schema in /etc/gconf/schemas but this is not the problem - dh_gconf already adds it the postrm. The schema is not only still present in /etc/gconf/schemas, it is still *installed* in /etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults. This is because the former version used gconftool --makefile-install-rule to install the schemas in the postinst but not gconftool --makefile-uninstall-rule to uninstall them. The correct solution is something like this in the postinst: if [ $1 = configure ] dpkg --compare-versions $2 le 0.35.3-2; then GCONF_CONFIG_SOURCE=`gconftool-2 --get-default-source` TMP_HOME=`mktemp -d /tmp/gconf.XX` HOME=$TMP_HOME gconftool-2 --direct \ --config-source=${GCONF_CONFIG_SOURCE} \ --makefile-uninstall-rule \ /usr/share/gconf/schemas/gdesklets.schemas rm -rf $TMP_HOME fi This will uninstall the schemas from /etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults. If some keys were removed, they will be not be cleaned up and this requires a gconftool-2 --unset or --recursive-unset. However this is a less important problem, as all keys which are relevant to the new version will be uninstalled from /etc. -- .''`. Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: gdesklets Version: 0.35.3-1 Severity: serious The gdesklets package still calls gconftool by hand to register schema files, and still keeps the schemas in /etc/gconf/schemas. This is a FHS violation which is fixed by using dh_gconf. As the package uses cdbs this is probably only a matter of rebuilding it without the gconftool call in the postinst. Furthermore, these schemas are not uninstalled in the prerm script. This means the cruft is left /etc. A rule has to be added to uninstall them nevertheless in the new version. -- .''`. Bug#370257: sylpheed-claws-gtk2 does not obey $HOME
Package: sylpheed-claws-gtk2 Version: 2.2.0-1 Severity: serious Justification: Policy 10.7.5 and possibly 9.1.1 Under certain circumstances, sylpheed-claws-gtk2 stores its dotfiles outside of $HOME. The Debian Policy demands that dotfiles are created in the user's home directory. It seems sylpheed-claws uses getpwent or similar to figure out where the user's home directory is. While this is certainly correct if there is no $HOME defined, it must be considered incorrect when $HOME is defined. Failure to use the directory specified by $HOME makes it impossible to e.g. temporarily run sylpheed-claws-gtk2 with alternate configuration (except by doing some mv's before and after). It is also potentially destructive since users generally expect their $HOME to be safe from modifications by programs which are run in an environment with a different $HOME. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (990, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.14+juhaj+v1.0 Locale: LANG=en_GB, LC_CTYPE=fi_FI.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages sylpheed-claws-gtk2 depends on: ii libaspell15 0.60.4-4 GNU Aspell spell-checker runtime l ii libc6 2.3.6-7GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcompfaceg1 1:1.5.2-3 Compress/decompress images for mai ii libetpan6 0.45-2 mail handling library ii libglib2.0-0 2.10.2-2 The GLib library of C routines ii libgnomeprint2.2-02.12.1-3 The GNOME 2.2 print architecture - ii libgnomeprintui2.2-0 2.12.1-3 GNOME 2.2 print architecture User ii libgtk2.0-0 2.8.17-2 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libldap2 2.1.30-13 OpenLDAP libraries ii libpango1.0-0 1.12.1-3 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpisock80.11.8-22 Library for communicating with a P ii libssl0.9.8 0.9.8b-2 SSL shared libraries Versions of packages sylpheed-claws-gtk2 recommends: ii aspell-en [aspell-dictionary] 6.0-0-5English dictionary for GNU Aspell ii metamail 2.7-51 implementation of MIME ii sylpheed-claws-gtk2-i18n 2.2.0-1Locale data for Sylpheed-Claws GTK pn sylpheed-claws-scriptsnone (no description available) ii xfonts-100dpi 1:1.0.0-2 100 dpi fonts for X ii xfonts-100dpi-transcoded 1:1.0.0-2 100 dpi fonts for X (transcoded fr -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#369503: Forwarded bug upstream [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Samhain: Error when building with autoconf 2.59d]
severity 370123 serious merge 370123 369503 tag 369503 help upstream thanks I have forwarded this bug upstream as I have no idea how to fix it myself. If any bug-squashing hunter can help with this bug I would appreciate it. Javier - Forwarded message --- From: Javier Fernández-Sanguino Peña jfs_AT_computer.org Date: Sat, 3 Jun 2006 23:03:25 +0200 To: support_AT_la-samhna.de Subject: Samhain: Error when building with autoconf 2.59d Hi Samhain support! This is the Debian maintainer of Samhain speaking. I wanted to notify you of a bug recently submitted to the Debian Bug Tracking System: #369503 [1] it seems that samhain cannot be built with the latest autoconf version, when running autoheader it will not be able to work and spits out this error: configure.ac:44: error: m4_defn: undefined macro: _AC_LANG autoconf/lang.m4:157: AC_LANG_POP is expanded from... autoconf/c.m4:556: AC_PROG_CC is expanded from... configure.ac:44: the top level autom4te: /usr/bin/m4 failed with exit status: 1 autoheader: '/usr/bin/autom4te' failed with exit status: 1 The autoconf Debian maintainers have mentioned as an answer to my bug #370123 [2] that this is a problem with samhain's configure.ac using undocumented internal Autoconf features and that it should be fixed. I'm no autoconf expert and, consequently, have no clue as to how fix this for Debian so that samhain can build properly both in my system (with the latest autoconf version) and the build daemons that automatically build the Debian package for other (non-i386) architectures. Could you please look into this issue? I would really appreciate your help. Thanks! Bug#370284: guitar: Conflicts with x11-common about /usr/X11R6/bin
Package: guitar Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable The upgrade of package x11-common to version 7.0.20 requires to remove /usr/X11R6/bin (a new path has been chosen), but tha package guitar claims that it is his path, so x11-common cannot be upgraded. I success to remove guitar by modifying the file /var/lib/dpkg/info/guitar.list : I modify the line /usr/X11R5/bin to /usr/X11R5/bin_whatyouwant. Then, the package guitar accepts to be removed, and the package x11-common can be upgraded without complain. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (900, 'testing'), (600, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.15-dawnrazor-bs Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#370296: DLJ only allows distributing the exact same file
Package: sun-java5-jre Version: 1.5.0-06-1 Severity: serious In the DLJ, there is the clause Sun also grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, royalty-free limited license to reproduce and distribute the Software, directly or indirectly through your licensees, distributors, resellers, or OEMs, electronically or in physical form or pre-installed with your Operating System on a general purpose desktop computer or server, provided that: (a) the Software and any proprietary legends or notices are complete and unmodified; ... According to the copyright file, Debian gets the package from http://download.java.net/dlj/binaries/ That location only has a single binary package. However, Debian splits that into multiple packages (sun-java5-bin, sun-java5-jdk, sun-java5-jre, etc.). So Debian is not distributing the code complete and unmodified. This problem was brought up with Sun [1]. They explained why it is nice to split up the package, but failed to explain why Debian is allowed to do the split. Jeroen also commented about it [2], and makes the argument that the changes necessary for package management are acceptable. But this does not explain why Debian can split the package, thus only distributing part of what Debian gets from Sun. Cheers, Walter Landry [EMAIL PROTECTED] [1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2006/05/msg00151.html [2] http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2006/05/msg00141.html -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#370295: DLJ prevents running jython with sun-java
Package: sun-java5-jre Version: 1.5.0-06-1 Severity: serious In the Distributor License for Java, there is the clause (c) you do not combine, configure or distribute the Software to run in conjunction with any additional software that implements the same or similar functionality or APIs as the Software; Debian distributes Jython, which can run with sun-java. However, Jython, being a reimplementation of Python, implements a great deal of similar functionality as sun-java. This can be fixed by making Jython conflict with sun-java, although I suspect that there may be other packages that also cause problems. Bug#369995:
Julien, if you don't want/have the time to package aMule properly, just step down so someone can take over the task. I'm sorry to be so rude about it, but you saying I don't want you teach me anithing. was way beyond rude in an offer for help and mentoring. I have no experience with debian packaging, but if it has to be that I become a package mantainer here I'll do my best to learn (I have been using debian for 8 years anyway, it's about time to learn something about packaging). Is not like we do much releases of aMule, but I plan to make several over the last months and it would be good to have an active mantainer that actually cares about the packages and its quality. So yeah, I'm offering to take over the mantainer position and accept the mentoring help. signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Bug#369995:
* Angel Vidal (Kry) [Sun, 04 Jun 2006 16:24:05 +0200]: Hey Angel, Julien, if you don't want/have the time to package aMule properly, just step down so someone can take over the task. I'm sorry to be so rude about it, but you saying I don't want you teach me anithing. was way beyond rude in an offer for help and mentoring. Yeah, well, we had already agreed that I could become a comantainer, so I was planning on doing so. I would have uploaded yesterday, but alas, something else popped up. :) So yeah, I'm offering to take over the mantainer position and accept the mentoring help. If you're willing to learn about Debian packaging, and spend a bit of time on it, my offer stands. If you're just worried about amule's status in Debian but will prefer for somebody else to take care, I can be that one. In either case, upstream being subscribed to the PTS and reading Debian BTS traffic is pretty cool, and helpful by itself regardless of them being involved in packaging or not. In other words, I'll soon make an amule upload myself to fix the serious open packaging bugs, and will be happy with whatever later decision you make about yourself stepping in or not, as explained above.
