Bug#351789: libwnck
On Sun, Jul 02, 2006 at 11:50:47AM -0400, Barry deFreese wrote: The problem seems to be that ajunta wants /usr/lib/libwnck-1.la which is no longer provided by libwnck-dev. It was in v2.14 but not in v2.15. I am trying to work on a patch. Don't bother. This analysis is completely wrong; there are no references to libwnck-1.la anywhere in the anjuta source, so this is not a sourceful bug in anjuta -- the reference to libwnck-1.la was being pulled in by some build-dependency of anjuta's. The bug has also been marked as fixed in the latest version, so I don't see why you would be working on it anyway. -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. Bug#375359: cupsys-client: sid cups client, sarge cups server printing does not work anymore
Hello. I may have supplementary information on this bug. I have a similar setup, with debian sid cupsys 1.2.1 and a server (non-debian) running cupsys 1.1. Instead of printing from command line I am using a graphical tool (acroread). Here printing always works, *but* with really large delays: When I push the Print menu entry, about 20 seconds pass before the print window pops up; when I select a printer, a similar amount of time pass before I can continue. I snooped a little on the traffic with the server, and it seems that three or four pretty long TCP sessions, with several seconds interval between them, were run just to get the print window to pop up. I could imaging that the command line printer commands just give up instead. Could this be a case of badly coded backwards compatibility? Hope this information helps. best regards -- Peder Chr. Bug#376490: openoffice.org crashes when switching between tabs in dialogs
Package: openoffice.org Version: 2.0.3-1 Severity: grave Openoffice.org crashes reproducably when switching between tabs in dialogs. I tested it with oowriter's paragraph and page format dialog as well as with oocalcs cell format and page format dialog. It does not happen with all the dialogs... the character format dialog in oowriter seems to work stable. This happens on Debian Etch as well as on Debian Sarge with openoffice.org backport 2.0.3-0bpo1. It happens with libfreetype6 2.1.7-2.5 (Sarge, security update), libfreetype6 2.1.7-2.4 (Sarge) and libfreetype6 2.2.1-2. I included libfreetype6 versions here to due debian bug report #372719. This bug seems to be unrelated to libfreetype6 version. I switched to the old backport 2.0.1-4bpo0 for our workstations and there that crash does not happen. I didn't switch to an older openoffice.org version on my laptop with debian etch, since I do not need openoffice.org often on it. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.17.1-tp23-sws2-2.2.6-xfs-fix Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Versions of packages openoffice.org depends on: ii openoffice.org-base 2.0.3-1OpenOffice.org office suite - data ii openoffice.org-calc 2.0.3-1OpenOffice.org office suite - spre ii openoffice.org-core 2.0.3-1OpenOffice.org office suite archit ii openoffice.org-draw 2.0.3-1OpenOffice.org office suite - draw ii openoffice.org-impress2.0.3-1OpenOffice.org office suite - pres ii openoffice.org-java-common2.0.3-1OpenOffice.org office suite Java s ii openoffice.org-math 2.0.3-1OpenOffice.org office suite - equa ii openoffice.org-writer 2.0.3-1OpenOffice.org office suite - word openoffice.org recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#376503: stop initscript has wrong priority
Package: apache2 Version: 2.0.55-4 Severity: critical Apache is being invoked very late in the bootup process: /etc/rc2.d/S91apache2 This is probably because all other needed software (depending on the website implementation, of course), such as mysql, is already started. A program that is started late can be expected to be stopped early in the shutdown process, because of the dependency on other software. However, apache is also being stopped late: /etc/rc6.d/K91apache2 On a system where the website uses mysql, startup works fine. However, shutdown can cause data loss, because mysql already stops at priority 20, while apache continues to run until 91 is reached. Mysql can't stop correctly if connections are kept open or being opened. But this is just an example, other backend software might be affected as well. Even if mysql could shut down correctly, the website would be broken until apache is stopped as well. I suggest that apache's stop priority be changed to a low value, such as 5 or so. Bug#376501: pxe: Trips over stray pid file.
Following up on my own report, the bug is caused by 03-gcc4.dpatch which moves pidfile creation in front of the switch to user 'nobody', meaning that the pidfile can actually be created in /var/run. Upon termination, the daemon lacks capabilities to remove the pidfile, though. The most elegant way to solve the problem creates a dedicated system user like Debian-pxe, a subdirectory /var/run/pxe owned by this user, and runs the daemon with 'Debian-pxe' privileges instead of 'nobody'. ('nobody' itself should not own any files on the system, hence the dedicated user.) Alternatively, you can just drop euid and egid, and later regain root privileges to unlink the pidfile, but that increases the security risk. Bug#358246: NBSMTP: Linking GPL code against OpenSSL
[Please retain CC] There is Debian bug http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=358246 which caused SSL support to be removed from nbsmtp in Debian. ... nbsmtp depends on openssl (libssl0.9.8), but according to the copyright file it is GPL without a special exception (at least, I could not find one there, nor in the source package). Please either disable OpenSSL support, convince upstream to add an exception to the GPL which allows linking with OpenSSL. I'm forwarding this messaeg to OpenSSL development list and invite the nbsmtp developers in CC to talk about how we could find a solution to continue including SSL support in the program. Bug#376426: libnss-ldap: Can't login even as local user
* Sjoerd Simons ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) wrote: I've rebooted one of the systems with the ipv6 module blacklisted. After that it still shows exactly the same behaviour (identicaly trace, just the ipv6 addresses replaced by ipv4 addresses)... Hmm, ok. Can you check if there's a file in /var/lib/libnss-ldap ? I doubt that has anything to do with this but who knows. Nope, completely empty. Good, that's how it should be. I'm not sure what info would be helpfull. But fwiw, it happens on both amd64 and x86 machines. We've got two ldap servers (both accessible via ipv4 and ipv6), one runs sarge the other one runs etch. Huh, alright. Downgrading the package to the testing version solves the problem. I can't pinpoint it closer as i've only noticed it quite recently when nscd was not running for some reason. Are your config files world-readable? Maybe nscd can see them since it's running as root but a regular user can't and that causes the problem... Do you see anything interesting in your logs? What if you enable 'debug' in your libnss-ldap.conf? Thanks, Stephen signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: file-rc Version: 0.8.7 Severity: critical Justification: breaks the whole system Hi, last night I upgraded file-rc to 0.8.8 before shutting down the pc. And this morning when it tried to boot somehow the init scripts weren't run properly. I landed on a login-prompt, while a display manager should've come up. After logging in, all that is mounted is /, no /usr, no /var nothing else. I rebooted into single user mode and it seemed that no init-scripts were run, i.e. not even udev. I again had only / mounted and had no way of even activating my LVM volumes (I don't have the error messages from that at hand). After reinstalling 0.8.7 everythings fine again.
