Bug#351789: libwnck

The problem seems to be that ajunta wants /usr/lib/libwnck-1.la which is no

I am trying to work on a patch.

Don't bother. This analysis is completely wrong; there are no references to
libwnck-1.la anywhere in the anjuta source, so this is not a sourceful bug
in anjuta -- the reference to libwnck-1.la was being pulled in by some
build-dependency of anjuta's.

The bug has also been marked as fixed in the latest version, so I don't see
why you would be working on it anyway.

Nope.

If the patch is small egough, can you please post it here and/or in

Justification: Policy 2.3

hi,

nbsmtp depends on openssl (libssl0.9.8), but according to the copyright
file it is GPL without a special exception (at least, I could not find
one there, nor in the source package).

Please either disable OpenSSL support, convince upstream to add an
exception to the GPL which allows linking with OpenSSL.

cu
Maurice

ps: what is the noteworthy difference between nbsmtp and
any of this:
ssmtp nullmailer masqmail esmtp msmtp

ps2: why does nbsmtp include yet another incomplete SASL implementation?
(it is lacking support for the SL part of SASL: Security Layers, and
is missing support for the GSSAPI mech, or any other mech with
noteworthy security)

initramfs-tools.preinst modifies the conffile
/etc/mkinitramfs/conf.d/resume:

   sed -i -e s/RESUME=.*/#RESUME=/ /etc/mkinitramfs/initramfs.conf

initramfs-tools.preinst depends on the existence of /u/s/d/, which the
etch release notes require to be removable:

 initramfs-tools (0.67) unstable; urgency=high
 .
   Release bella, ciao, ciao, ciao!
 .
   * scripts/local: Fix typo in log_begin_msg. (closes: #375880)
 .
   * update-initramfs: Generate initramfs for current version if there is no
sha1sum and no initrd exists yet - regression from 0.65. (closes: #375671)
Thanks martin f krafft [EMAIL PROTECTED] for report.
 .
   * conf/initramfs.conf, initramfs.conf(5): Drop RESUME section.
 .
   * debian/initramfs-tools.preinst: Don't modify conffile initramfs.tools -
drop the corresponding code. (closes: #376008)

 written to /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume on install.
 .

/etc/modules. Works on both busybox ash and klibc dash. Prefix space is
 ignored by both.

 .
   * mkinitramfs: Add stuff to the conf.d directory also from aboves directory.
 .
   * Set urgency to high to get the RC bugfix into testing.

Bug#375359: cupsys-client: sid cups client, sarge cups server printing does not work anymore

2006-07-03 Thread Peder Chr. Norgaard

Hello.
I may have supplementary information on this bug. I have
a similar setup, with debian sid cupsys 1.2.1 and a server
(non-debian) running cupsys 1.1.

Instead of printing from command line I am using a graphical tool
(acroread). Here printing always works, *but* with really large delays:
When I push the Print menu entry, about 20 seconds pass before the print
window pops up; when I select a printer, a similar amount of time pass
before I can continue.

I snooped a little on the traffic with the server, and it seems
that three or four pretty long TCP sessions, with several seconds interval
between them, were run just to get the print window to pop up. I could
imaging that the command line printer commands just give up instead.

Could this be a case of badly coded backwards compatibility?

Hope this information helps.

best regards

Bug#376490: openoffice.org crashes when switching between tabs in dialogs

2006-07-03 Thread Martin Steigerwald
Package: openoffice.org
Version: 2.0.3-1
Severity: grave

Openoffice.org crashes reproducably when switching between tabs in
dialogs.

I tested it with oowriter's paragraph and page format dialog as well as
with oocalcs cell format and page format dialog.

It does not happen with all the dialogs... the character format dialog
in oowriter seems to work stable.

This happens on Debian Etch as well as on Debian Sarge with
openoffice.org backport 2.0.3-0bpo1.

It happens with libfreetype6 2.1.7-2.5 (Sarge, security update),
libfreetype6 2.1.7-2.4 (Sarge) and libfreetype6 2.2.1-2. I included
libfreetype6 versions here to due debian bug report #372719. This bug
seems to be unrelated to libfreetype6 version.

I switched to the old backport 2.0.1-4bpo0 for our workstations and
there that crash does not happen. I didn't switch to an older
openoffice.org version on my laptop with debian etch, since I do not
need openoffice.org often on it.

Upgraded to 1.0.rc1-1 today and IPv6 functionality is restored.

Bug#376501: pxe: Trips over stray pid file.

2006-07-03 Thread Daniel Kobras
Package: pxe
Version: 1.4.2-3
Severity: grave
Justification: breaks system upgrades

The pxe daemon fails to start when there still is a stray pid file in
/var/run. Incidentially, it also fails to remove the pid file when
stopped. In combination, pxe is unusable after an upgrade until the old
pid file is manually removed. I noticed during the recent upgrade to
1.4.2-4, which means that the bug must have been introduced in -3.

Works here (except for Border/Umrandung).
You are sure you didn't hit Umrandung/Border? Then this is

Bug#376503: stop initscript has wrong priority

2006-07-03 Thread Martin Gruner
Package: apache2
Version: 2.0.55-4
Severity: critical

Apache is being invoked very late in the bootup process:

/etc/rc2.d/S91apache2

This is probably because all other needed software (depending on the website
implementation, of course), such as mysql, is already started. A program that
is started late can be expected to be stopped early in the shutdown process,
because of the dependency on other software. However, apache is also being
stopped late:

/etc/rc6.d/K91apache2

On a system where the website uses mysql, startup works fine. However, shutdown
can cause data loss, because mysql already stops at priority 20, while apache
continues to run until 91 is reached. Mysql can't stop correctly if connections
are kept open or being opened. But this is just an example, other backend
software might be affected as well. Even if mysql could shut down correctly,
the website would be broken until apache is stopped as well.

I suggest that apache's stop priority be changed to a low value, such as 5 or
so.

Bug#376366: POSIX patch is causing the problem

2006-07-03 Thread Jan Niehusmann
Hi,

the observation that IFS is causing the problem looks plausible, and if
it's true, the offending change is this one:

--- /etc/init.d/rcS 2004-08-14 18:47:29.0 +0200
+++ rcS 2005-10-30 11:05:07.0 +0100
@@ -55,9 +55,6 @@
 trap : INT QUIT TSTP

 element() {
-local element list IFS
-
-
 element=$1

 [ $2 = in ] shift

It's from the posix patch in #292632. A quick workaround would be to
remove this patch and depend on bash instead. A working posix-compatible
fix would be even better, of course.

Jan

PS: Roland, da hast Du mir aber einen riesen Schreck eingejagt, als mein
Notebook heute morgen auf einmal nicht mehr bootete *g*

I tested it with oowriter's paragraph and page format dialog as well
as with oocalcs cell format and page format dialog.

 Works here (except for Border/Umrandung).
You are sure you didn't hit Umrandung/Border? Then this is
known (#376316) and will be fixed in the new upload.

Hello Rene,

no, didn't recognize the bug you mentioned as relevant from reading its
subject line in the long reportbug listings. I tested again and indeed it
only happens on Borders - no matter whether I try it Format cells
(oocalc), Format/Page (oowriter) or Paragraph (oowriter).

So this is a dupe of #376316.

Bug#376501: pxe: Trips over stray pid file.

2006-07-03 Thread Daniel Kobras
Following up on my own report, the bug is caused by 03-gcc4.dpatch which
moves pidfile creation in front of the switch to user 'nobody', meaning
that the pidfile can actually be created in /var/run. Upon termination,
the daemon lacks capabilities to remove the pidfile, though. The most
elegant way to solve the problem creates a dedicated system user like
Debian-pxe, a subdirectory /var/run/pxe owned by this user, and runs the
daemon with 'Debian-pxe' privileges instead of 'nobody'. ('nobody'
itself should not own any files on the system, hence the dedicated
user.) Alternatively, you can just drop euid and egid, and later regain
root privileges to unlink the pidfile, but that increases the security
risk.

Regards,

Daniel.

I think this is caused by the configuration format changing. Could you
please add a new instance of the applet to your panel and see if it,
too, crashes?

Please don't remove the old instance of the applet, if the new instance
does not crash then we still need it to debug the old instance.

Interesting. Do both of you run IPv6 systems? It *looks* like
libnss-ldap already had an open socket with the LDAP server (probably
from the shell) and it thinks it can't use it for some reason and goes
to close/reopen the connection but doesn't actually reopen the
connection, just recreates the socket and then tries to write to it.

Can you check if there's a file in /var/lib/libnss-ldap ? I doubt that
has anything to do with this but who knows.

Any other info you could provide would certainly be helpful...

Thanks,

Stephen

Package: python-setuptools

Severity: grave

The upgrade from 0.6b3-1 to 0.6b3-2 fails, leaving the package in an
unusable state. That's why I'm filing this bug as grave.
Attached is a log of apt-get. Seems as Python-Version is not correctly
set for pycentral.

Bug#358246: NBSMTP: Linking GPL code against OpenSSL

2006-07-03 Thread Jari Aalto

[Please retain CC]

There is Debian bug
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=358246
which caused SSL support to be removed from nbsmtp in
Debian.

...
nbsmtp depends on openssl (libssl0.9.8), but according to the copyright
file it is GPL without a special exception (at least, I could not find
one there, nor in the source package).

Please either disable OpenSSL support, convince upstream to add an
exception to the GPL which allows linking with OpenSSL.

I'm forwarding this messaeg to OpenSSL development list and
invite the nbsmtp developers in CC to talk about how we
could find a solution to continue including SSL support in
the program.

What do your configs look like, what version of login is it? Can you
try and strace it, or run it under gdb and see what's happening? Do you
have any other LDAP libraries installed?

I'm seeing almost the same behaviour. When nscd isn't running the use can
log in but after the shell is launched each command gets a SIGPIPE which
kills it. Everything is at the current unstable version.

A strace of the shell when it tries to run /bin/echo a:

Interesting. Do both of you run IPv6 systems? It *looks* like
libnss-ldap already had an open socket with the LDAP server (probably
from the shell) and it thinks it can't use it for some reason and goes
to close/reopen the connection but doesn't actually reopen the
connection, just recreates the socket and then tries to write to it.

I've rebooted one of the systems with the ipv6 module blacklisted. After that
it still shows exactly the same behaviour (identicaly trace, just the ipv6
addresses replaced by ipv4 addresses)...

Can you check if there's a file in /var/lib/libnss-ldap ? I doubt that
has anything to do with this but who knows.

Nope, completely empty.

Any other info you could provide would certainly be helpful...

I'm not sure what info would be helpfull. But fwiw, it happens on both amd64
and x86 machines. We've got two ldap servers (both accessible via ipv4 and
ipv6), one runs sarge the other one runs etch.

Downgrading the package to the testing version solves the problem. I can't
pinpoint it closer as i've only noticed it quite recently when nscd was not
running for some reason.

Don't bother. This analysis is completely wrong; there are no references
to

libwnck-1.la anywhere in the anjuta source, so this is not a sourceful bug
in anjuta -- the reference to libwnck-1.la was being pulled in by some
build-dependency of anjuta's.

The bug has also been marked as fixed in the latest version, so I don't
see

why you would be working on it anyway.

Yep, jumped the gun. The libwnck is brought in from devhelp.

I was working on it for Ubuntu Edgy.

Sorry.

Bug#376502: sensors-applet: crashes when started by gnome-panel

Ok, can you get a stack trace of the crashing applet? I'm attaching a

Package: python-setuptools
Version: 0.6b3-2
Severity: grave

The upgrade from 0.6b3-1 to 0.6b3-2 fails, leaving the package in an
unusable state. That's why I'm filing this bug as grave.
Attached is a log of apt-get. Seems as Python-Version is not correctly
set for pycentral.

Plain login(1) from sid: 1:4.0.16-2.

But the problem is not in login(1), if I log in with nscd and then disable

try and strace it, or run it under gdb and see what's happening? Do you

No ipv6 here, /var/lib/libnss-ldap/ is empty.

Hmm, ok.

Can you check if there's a file in /var/lib/libnss-ldap ? I doubt that
has anything to do with this but who knows.

 Nope, completely empty.

Good, that's how it should be.

I'm not sure what info would be helpfull. But fwiw, it happens on both amd64
and x86 machines. We've got two ldap servers (both accessible via ipv4 and
ipv6), one runs sarge the other one runs etch.

Huh, alright.

Downgrading the package to the testing version solves the problem. I can't
pinpoint it closer as i've only noticed it quite recently when nscd was not
 running for some reason.

Are your config files world-readable? Maybe nscd can see them since
it's running as root but a regular user can't and that causes the
problem... Do you see anything interesting in your logs? What if you
enable 'debug' in your libnss-ldap.conf?

Thanks,

Stephen

Right, I gathered that you were both probably seeing the same thing.

More would be nice... I'm really curious where the original file
descriptor '7' is coming from... Based on the getpeername() call it
*looks* like that should be an existing connection to the LDAP server,
which is then closed (perhaps because it doesn't think that connection
is to the right server, or something...).

Does your URI in your libnss-ldap.conf resolve to multiple different IP
addresses? What if you used multiple URIs which resolve to only a
single address?

No ipv6 here, /var/lib/libnss-ldap/ is empty.

Ok, thanks, exactly as it should be.

Thanks,

Stephen

Package: file-rc
Version: 0.8.7
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

Hi,

last night I upgraded file-rc to 0.8.8 before shutting down the pc. And
this morning when it tried to boot somehow the init scripts weren't run
properly. I landed on a login-prompt, while a display manager should've
come up. After logging in, all that is mounted is /, no /usr, no /var
nothing else.

I rebooted into single user mode and it seemed that no init-scripts were
run, i.e. not even udev. I again had only / mounted and had no way of
even activating my LVM volumes (I don't have the error messages from
that at hand).

After reinstalling 0.8.7 everythings fine again.

Andreas

As downgrading the package helps i doubt it's a configuration problem.

More would be nice... I'm really curious where the original file

*looks* like that should be an existing connection to the LDAP server,

If you want more specific data let me know.. stracing something in that shell
later on shows that the getpeername and getsockname are done on fd 11, which
was allocated by libnss-ldap (as can be seen in the trace above).

Does your URI in your libnss-ldap.conf resolve to multiple different IP
addresses? What if you used multiple URIs which resolve to only a
 single address?

That was the case, but i've changed that to just one specific host and it
reveals no changes in behaviour.

I've NMUed for this bug (fixing the bug to use versioning instead of the
fixed tag, to ease tracking through testing); here's the changelog:

  ffmpeg (0.cvs20060329-4.1) unstable; urgency=high
  .
* Non-maintainer upload.
* Link ffplay against -lX11 (and build-depend on libx11-dev), since SDL no
longer links explicitly against it; fixes FTBFS. (Closes: #375266)
