Bug#384489: seeing the latest breakage too

2006-09-08 Thread Joey Hess
Once again, the 0.4.2-7 build of duplicity is lacking any postinst or other
maintainer script to actually call python-support. This is because you call
dh_pysupport with the -n parameter. I don't know why on earth you do that.

Any error messages or anything else you can tell us to make it easier

Bug#332227: fixed in yaboot-installer_1.1.7 ?

2006-09-08 Thread Holger Levsen
resent, as I forgot to cc: the submitters..

Hi,

yaboot-installer_1.1.7 was uploaded three days ago and fixed #375505 and
#377098 which look quite similar to these bugs - could you please try again
with a new daily build from sid and see if the bug still exists?

From the changelog:

   * Only write magicboot= line on NewWorld PowerMacs (closes: #375505).
   * If ofpath returns nothing, try leaving out the device= line in the hope
that yaboot will figure it out (it's better than writing an unparseable
 configuration file; see #375505).
   * Write appropriate console=hvc* into append= line if using an HVC virtual
 serial console (closes: #377098).

regards,
Holger

I had to:

- boot in single-user mode
- manually mount -o remountrw my / partition
- manually initialize all lvm groups
- manually mount /usr
- manually mount /var
- manually set $PATH to include /usr/bin
- run apt-cache show initscripts |grep Version

Instead of altering the existing files, your .diff.gz just prepends the
new file to the old one. The same seems to be true for the other files
 touched by bootstrap.sh.

 Goddamn autotools!

Just throwing all the patching to the autotools files out of the diff.gz fixes
this issue.

The current NMU rules allow for 0-days NMU's for RC bugs that have
been open for more then one week. I'll upload a fixed package later today.

scary bug. And if I should believe the svn changelog for the script,
it has been there forever, forever here meaning since before the svn
repository was created 2005-09-10. :)

I believe this patch solve the problem, by making sure checklink() do
_not_ reomve symlinks unless asked to do so. Please test and let me
know if it solve the problem for you. With this patch, I am no longer
able to reproduce it myself.

Bug#386392: fails to build

2006-09-08 Thread Micha Lenk

Hi,

Damyan Ivanov schrieb:

Package: sim
Version: 0.9.4.0+1-1

Justification: no longer builds from source

Hi, In a clean, fresh sid pbuilder ./configure call ends up with:

Did you install the build dependencies using

   apt-get build-dep sim

or something similar before trying to configure sim?

I just ask because most buildds were successful in building sim
0.9.4.0+1-1 from source...

Have a nice day

Bug#386540: udev: many devices are not put in /dev

2006-09-08 Thread Julien Cervelle
Package: udev
Version: 0.100-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

With this version, neither /dev/input/mice nor /dev/agpgart nor
/dev/psaux. Downgrading to 0.98-2 solved the problem. I'm new to
udev so I have not hints why it did not work. It causes X server
to fail to start (i810 driver w/ synaptics standard mouse driver)

Bug#385295: hm..

2006-09-08 Thread Michael Ablassmeier
hi,

i can reproduce this bug here (with siege running in default

2)

and finally im able to produce this one:

 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ host www.hisee.de
www.hisee.de does not exist, try again

for at least 3) there seems to be a rough fix like:

Yes. Most init.d scripts from packages upgraded since you upgraded to
sysv-rc versoin 2.86.ds1-16 will probably have been removed. To
restore them, it should be enough to reconfigure the packages, aka like

  dpkg-reconfigure dbus
  dpkg-reconfigure powersaved

Sorry for the mess. :(

Bug#386500: still something missing

2006-09-08 Thread Ivan Sergio Borgonovo

Sorry to bother... this is not related to the bug itself but rather to
fix the problems it caused.

dbus and powersaved were resurrected that way.

nfs client still not working; the module is not loaded...
I had to load manually modprobe nfs and then mount the shares
I used sysvconfig to reenable the services I thought were useful but
even starting all the nfs related rc script nfs doesn't work
I don't know if anything else is missing.

Is there a way to have a list of packages that change /etc/rc?
Should manually enabling them with sysvconfig enough to fix the
problem without dpk-reconfiguring everything?

thx

Hi, In a clean, fresh sid pbuilder ./configure call ends up with:

or something similar before trying to configure sim?

Yes. pbuilder installs all build-dependencies.

I just ask because most buildds were successful in building sim
 0.9.4.0+1-1 from source...

Just give it a try in a recent pbuilder chroot and you'll see the
error too. Those buildds you mention built it in mid-August. mips'
however tried a couple of days ago and failed too (with very same
error). And to be clear, I am trying it under i386.

I've contacted upstream about this and they suggested a change in
configure.in.in - replace KDE_FLEX with AM_PROG_LEX, which seems to
fix it.

There was some suspicion in the recent flex update, but no hard evidence.

  Hello,

  I received bug report #386211:
Package: plucker
Version: 1.8-16+b1
Severity: normal

Upon update to this version the byte-compiled files in
 /usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/PyPlucker/
were left behind.

1.8-16+b1 is generated for Python 2.4 so the installed files are now
  in /usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/PyPlucker/ and
  /usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/PyPlucker/ should be empty (and
  deleted).

My problem is that the package does not provide the .pyc files. These
files are generated when executing the Python script as _root_.
Executing the Python scripts as a normal user does not create the
  .pyc (permission denied, of course).

How am I supposed to manage this?

you were supposed to remove them in the postrm of you package, as per
 policy (the old one).

so now, you are just fucked, you have to :
  1. rm -rf /usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/PyPlucker/ in the preinst of
 your package.

OK.

The plucker package is not available in Debian stable. I imagine it had
a RC bug when sarge was released since the first package version is
dated Dec 2000.

So only people using unstable or testing _and_ running the scripts as
root will suffer from this bug. How long should I keep the rm in
preinst? Until etch is released?

Or can I just close the bug without adding anything in preinst since
packages in unstable/testing _may_ have bugs.

  2. and then make it comply with the new policy, using dh_pysupport or
dh_pycentral that will take care of the byte-compilation of your
 package, and the transitions also.

wich seems to be already done.

Yes. I try to do my best.

Bug#386551: cupsys: postinst script destroys local changes to config files

2006-09-08 Thread Juha Jaykka
Package: cupsys
Version: 1.2.2-2
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 10.7.3

Lines 131-137 of cupsys.postinst incorrectly assume that *any* lines
containing Include /etc/cups/cups.d/browse.conf and .../ports.conf
in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf are indeed remnants of now-obsolete debconf
options.

They are not.

The script should *at least* check if the debconf even has answers to
the now-obsolete questions and not destroy cupsd.conf if it has not
modified it earlier.

What happens (on a *fresh* install of etch):

1) install cupsys
2) edit cupsd.conf to Include /etc/cups/cups.d/browse.conf
3) remove cupsys
4) install cupsys
5) your Include -directive is gone

OR

1) install cupsd.conf, which Includes /etc/cups/cups.d/browse.conf
2) install cupsys
3) your include -directive is gone

This is *very* annoying in an environment, like ours, where cfengine
pre-distributes config files (dpkg is always run with --conf-old) and
packages are installed only afterwards.

Bug#366620: kernel-image-2.6.16-2 on oldworld (success with a small change in config)

2006-09-08 Thread Hans Ekbrand
Hi!

The official debian kernels for powerpc stopped working for me with
2.6.16 (2.6.15 works fine). The 2.6.16 ones fail to mount root fs at
boot, which I have reported in bug #366620

I compiled my own 2.6.16 with a minimal change in .config, and that
was it, 2.6.16 now boots on my oldworld mac.

The needed change in config was the following: (diff against
./boot/config-2.6.16-2-powerpc in the package
linux-image-2.6.16-2-powerpc_2.6.16-18_powerpc.deb)

I think this shows that there is some problem with loading the proper
modules for ide and ext2 from the initrd. As stated in the bugreport
of #366620 I have tried both yaird and the other initrd creator.

I don't know about the

FS_MBCACHE=y

thing, that must have been set automatically.

Will you consider appling this patch to the config? While it is not
the right solution in the long term, it would make oldworld macs run
with official debian kernels again (at least the ones with
IDE-drives).

recently and the problem was already there.

the problem is that under some condition, even with the missing .py,
the .pyc are seen as validate candidates to do an import.

this often lead in broken setups.

so now, you are just fucked, you have to :
   1. rm -rf /usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/PyPlucker/ in the
  preinst of your package.

 OK.

The plucker package is not available in Debian stable. I imagine it
had a RC bug when sarge was released since the first package version
 is dated Dec 2000.

So only people using unstable or testing _and_ running the scripts as
root will suffer from this bug. How long should I keep the rm in
preinst? Until etch is released ?

yes you will be able to drop that in etch+1, because upgrades from a
stable release to the one after the next is not supported. We assume
users always upgrade from one stable to the next.

Or can I just close the bug without adding anything in preinst since
packages in unstable/testing _may_ have bugs.

no, packages un unstable/testing cannot have known bugs. they *may* have
not-yet-known ones.

Bug#386555: udev 0.100-1 broken

2006-09-08 Thread qaz
Package: udev
Version: 0.100-1
Severity: critical

after upgrading udev from 0.098-2 to 0.100-1 and rebooting very bad things
happened because a lot of device in /dev were not created and modules not
loaded

for example:
no X windows bacause /dev/psaux and /dev/input/mice were missing
no internet because resolvconf was missing /dev/shm/resolvconf
no sound..

downgrading to 0.098-2 solved the problem for me

Bug#366620: kernel-image-2.6.16-2 on oldworld (success with a small change in config)

 Hi!

Hi, please make sure you CC debian-kernel too on issues like this.

 FS_MBCACHE=y

thing, that must have been set automatically.

Will you consider appling this patch to the config? While it is not
the right solution in the long term, it would make oldworld macs run
with official debian kernels again (at least the ones with
 IDE-drives).

No, please get the ramdisk creator packages to get fixed for this one, if it
is that the issue.

Also, can you please try the 2.6.18-rc6 packages from :

  http://kernel-archive.buildserver.net/debian-kernel/pool/main/l/linux-2.6/

and see if your problem persists there.

Bug#386570: sounds/icons with unclear licensing

2006-09-08 Thread Damyan Ivanov
Package: sim-data
Version: 0.9.4.0+1-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

Lead by the similarity of sim's sounds/icons with the original icq
program by Mirabilis (now AOL), I asked on #sim-ru where are those files
coming from.

Current authors of sim said that they are from previous author (Vladimir
Shutov) and he in turn said that he can't remember where those files
came from.

I am filing this bug to avoid sim's migration to Etch with what appears
to be unlicensed content.

Given the uncertainty of the sounds/icons' origin and the similarity of
the files with ones with known author, but without clear licensing
terms, upstream intents to replace those files with others, which have
clear and compatible licensing terms. Some obvious choices are files
from Gaim, Kopete and Miranda, all licensed under GPLv2-or-later, same
as SIM.

Thanks for taking care of SIM,
dam

mentions BRLAPI),
  - speech-dispatcher 0.6.1-2 started up and running with

  - GNU Emacs{21-nox,-snapshot-nox} started with -q flag,
  - M-x speechd-speak RET issued i.e. global speaking toggled on.

Well I can't get any speech from any of
speechd-speak-read-{line,buffer,region,...} defuns despite M-x
speechd-say-text RET Hello world! RET does speak perfectly. So
essential functionality of speechd-el is broken. This is a serious
bug as some people with sight-impairment may rely on it to get access
to their Emacs environment.

Hi,

Thanks for reporting this. On my system I didn't have any problem, so I'm
guessing it comes from some custom files you have installed in
/usr/share/games/pioneers/. For that reason, I lowered the severity to
important (and thus not release-critical). I do expect to have it fixed
before the release though.

Looking at the code, I would expect this assertion to be triggered when a file
doesn't end on a newline. Could you check if this is the case for any of the
files in /usr/share/games/pioneers/, which have a name ending on .game?

I downloaded the source of the pioneers-server-console package, added
some debugging code and tried to find the error.

Bulding and installing pioneers without debianization (thus using
 ./configure directly) worked.

When building and installing using the debian build system (debian/rules
binary), the pioneers server containis the mentioned error.

I think you installed in /usr/local/ when not using the debian system,
correct? In that case, my theory would indicate a custom-built .game file not
ending on a newline in /usr/share/games/pioneers, which isn't present in
/usr/local/share/games/pioneers.

I'll fix this anyway, but if you could check that it is indeed what causes
your problem, that would be helpful.

Thanks,
Bas

Bug#383701: udev 0.100-1 doesn't load mice correctly. causes X errors.

2006-09-08 Thread David Barrera
Package: udev
Followup-For: Bug #383701

Upgrading from udev 98-2 to 100-1 makes mice stop working under X. If I
remember correctly this had already happened
once before. Reverting from 100-1 to 98-2 fixes the problem so it should be a
change in 100.

(As Joy pointed out, you might want to move it to /usr/lib too, but then
you'd really want to move away from dh_movefiles anyhow, and that's the sort
of thing I don't find sensible to do in an NMU.)

Are you going to fix this in 0.5.5 or wait for the next upstream
version? Testing is still waiting for a version that fixes upstream bug
#152 (the potential DOS one), which was solved in your 0.5.4 package,
and this bug is blocking the migration.

Hi there.

Sorry if this issue has been already addressed - I did not find anything.

It seems that there are bugs in 1.15.91 version in incremen.c:
function try_purge_directory

1) uninitialized variable stract stat st, as was correctly pointed
by Kurt Roeckx on tar debian bug page.
2) wrong file type check in
 || (*entry == 'D'  S_ISDIR (st.st_mode))
 || (*entry == 'Y'  !S_ISDIR (st.st_mode)))

I made a patch that fixes these problems.

Package: initscripts
Version: 2.86.ds1-16
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

The checkroot.sh init script sometimes needs to mknod the root filesystem
device as /dev/shm/root so it can fsck. This worked fine, until the recent
change that mounts /dev/shm with the nodev option. Now, any system that
fscks /dev/shm/root is unbootable.

I suppose the right fix is having checkroot.sh mount a new tmpfs as
/dev/check; mknod /dev/check/root; fsck /dev/check/root; umount /dev/check.

Package: udev
Version: 0.100-1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

After upgrading udev from 0.098-2 to 0.100-1, I found that udev no
longer started automatically at boot time, because the
/etc/rcS.d/S03udev and /etc/rcS.d/S36udev-mtab symlinks were no longer
present. This pretty much hoses the system, since various important
drivers don't get loaded; neither GDM or even the gettys came up, and I
had to boot in single-user mode.

Purging (with dpkg --purge --force-depends) and reinstalling the udev
package resolved the situation. Probably just running update-rc.d
manually could have resolved it too.

Bug#385239: Patch for the new upstream version

2006-09-08 Thread Yavor Doganov
tags 385239 + patch
thanks

Attached is a diff with the debian changes related to the packaging of
the new upstream version. The source package is at
http://ftp.logos-bg.net/debian-addons-bg/dists/sid/rssreader.app/

Things that are worrying me:

  * The rsskit.framwork metapackage seems like an overkill. It's not
that hordes of developers are pushing to use this library, but I
made it so to be consistent with the other GNUstep
libraries/frameworks. And RSSKit is not a typical GNUstep
framework...

  * The license blurb at RSSKit/GNUmakefile mentions LGPL and the
copyright holder is FSF. It also says that this is part of the
GSCrypt library. I think that upstream just made a mistake by
copying this blurb carelessly. Gürkan, as the official maintainer,
could you write to upstream to confirm this? We could include the
relevant part of his reply in debian/copyright, until it is resolved
with the next release. Or I can write to him, if you agree.

  * The rssreader.app package installs fine on Debian testing, but the
/usr/bin/Grr symlink is broken since it points to a location that
does not exist. I don't think we have to fix this by depending on
the new gnustep-make, since it was just uploaded and will hopefully
migrate to testing soon, in any event before rssreader.app.

  * Ideally, I'd include a get-orig-source target in debian/rules, but
since I hope that the RSSKit documentation issue will be resolved
Real Soon Now, I didn't make this change.

The new GNUstep packages are in NEW and will be ACCEPTed soon, I think.
So I'll wait a week for you to ack/accept these changes, or revert with
comments, and then I'll ask for a sponsor on -mentors.

Package: uae
Version: 0.8.22-1
Severity: serious

Hello,

This is a serious bug filed against your package because it
build-depends on xlibs-dev, which as announced in [1] a while ago, is
no longer available in sid. This makes your package fail to build from
  source.

[1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/11/msg00022.html

To fix this bug, you need to update your build-dependencies and
substitute xlibs-dev for the list of individual X development
libraries that your package needs to be built. You can find detailed
information about how to do that in the DependsXlibsDev wiki page [2].

[2] http://wiki.debian.org/DependsXlibsDev

As indicated by the Release Team [3], the full transition from XFree86
to Xorg is a release blocker for Etch, which means that Etch will not
be released until this bug is fixed (or your package removed from
testing). So, please, try to fix in a timely manner.

[3] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/10/msg4.html

The number of affected packages by the xlibs-dev transition is huge,
so if you feel like helping with patches or uploads, feel free to
follow the instructions contained in the wiki page above. A list of
affected packages can be found here [4].

[4] http://people.debian.org/~adeodato/release-usertag/transition-xlibs-dev

Finally, if there's a strong reason for which your package should not
be NMUed, please note so in this bug report. Prospective NMUers will
read your reasoning, and will decide if it's strong enough to delay
  their upload.

  Thanks for your collaboration!

Bug#386604: DokuWiki: TARGET_FN Directory Traversal Vulnerability

2006-09-08 Thread Giuseppe Iuculano
Package: dokuwiki
Version: 0.0.20060309-5
Severity: grave
Justification: user security hole

From: http://secunia.com/advisories/21819/

Description:
rgod has discovered a vulnerability in DokuWiki, which can be exploited by
malicious people to compromise a vulnerable system.

Input passed to the TARGET_FN parameter in bin/dwpage.php is not properly
sanitised before being used to copy files. This can be exploited via directory
traversal attacks in combination with DokuWiki's file upload feature to execute
arbitrary PHP code.

The vulnerability is confirmed in version 2006-03-09b. Other versions may also
be affected,

Solution:
Update to version 2006-03-09c and enable support for .htaccess files.

Versions of packages dokuwiki depends on:

I apologize, but my debian/copyright is not correct. Some files are
(C) 2005, 2006 FSF, some are (C) 2004-2006 Guenther Noack. I guess
his intention was to assign copyright to FSF, but this has to be
clarified for sure and debian/copyright corrected. Sorry that I
didn't pay enough attention about this.

Hello,

the just released security fix package 8.13.4-3sarge2 does not install
on sarge, because it depends on libsasl2 (= 2.1.19.dfsg1) while on
sarge only libsasl2 (2.1.19-1.5sarge1) is available.

Package: sendmail-bin
Version: 8.13.4-3sarge2
Depends: ..., libsasl2 (= 2.1.19.dfsg1), ...

Package: libsasl2
Version: 2.1.19-1.5sarge1

I'm not sure whether this bug is to be best off, so I'm CC:ing
debian-security@lists.debian.org as hinted in the Security Advisory.

regards
   Mario
