FWIW, my kernel is Debian 2.6.18 recompiled with exec-shield patch, so
it might come from that. With kernel 2.6.17-2-686 I don't have this problem.
However, I suspect that this is a bug from iconvconfig anyway.

Do not hesitate to ask for more debug output if needed.

I am surpried that this wasn't already the case. I am quite sure

Package also FTBFS on arm and i386.
The problem seems to be GalagoList.
Google suggests this should be defined in galago-list.h. However this

On ARM the buildd is failing because it times out while running the
configure script. The patch below increases the timeout by a healthy
margin to avoid this.

Hi,

Your package is failing to build on a few arches with the following
error:
cc -g -W -Wall -pedantic -std=c99 -Wall -g -O2 -c -o obex_auth.o
obex_auth.c
obex_auth.c:99: error: conflicting types for 'obex_auth_unpack_response'
obex_auth.h:19: error: previous declaration of 'obex_auth_unpack_response' was
here

Since it affects 64 bit arches and s390, I'm guessing that one has a
size_t while the other an int or something.

Kurt

From http://secunia.com/advisories/22653/ :
"Some vulnerabilities have been reported in PHP, which can be
exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) or
potentially compromise a vulnerable system.

The vulnerabilities are caused due to boundary errors within
the "htmlentities()" and "htmlspecialchars()" functions. If a PHP
application uses these functions to process user-supplied input, this
can be exploited to cause buffer overflows by passing specially
crafted data to the affected application.

Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code."

Since htmlentities() and htmlspecialchars() are frequently used on
user input, this seems quite severe to me.

I can reproducibly crash gaim by doing a "Room List" on
irc.gimp.org.

Sorry, but even when started from console there is very
little debug info:

roomlist: reffing list, ref count now 2
roomlist: reffing list, ref count now 3

Complete debug output below.

Bug#393049: Patch for #393049

thanks

Replace debian/patches/unsermake.diff by the attached patch, which
works by pointing the executable wrapper to the proper directory. This
patch also makes the package work even if default python version
changes and eliminates the useless setting of PYTHONPATH.

Bug#394555: gaim crash on irc

2006-11-04 Thread Ari Pollak
Okay, so the answer is that we shouldn't be passing around un-normalized
data from the network; it looks like dbus doesn't like invalid UTF-8 or
something. If we check to make sure it's valid UTF-8 before emitting, it's
fine, but then we could miss sending out some messages from the server
just because they have weird characters in them. Maybe this needs to be
fixed in DBus?

What evidence do you have that nvidia-glx is unusable?

Before we get into this, explain what you're doing with such an

Bug#397048: gtk-gnutella: FTBFS on ARM

2006-11-04 Thread Paul Brook
Package: gtk-gnutella
Version: 0.96.1svn12109-1

Build fails on ARM with STATIC_ASSERT failures. The ARM ABI padds
structudes to 4-byte boundaries by default. The attached patch adds
__attribute__((packed)) to inhibit this on structures that need to be
a funny size.

Package: libemail-find-perl
Version: 0.09-4
Severity: serious

Hi!

This bug has been filed on multiple packages, and general discussions
are kindly requested to take place on debian-legal or debian-devel in
the thread with Subject: "Non-free IETF RFC/I-Ds in source packages".

It seems this source package contains the following files from the
IETF under non-free license terms:

Email-Find-0.09/t/rfc822.txt

The license on RFC/I-Ds is not DFSG-free, see:
 * http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=199810
 * http://release.debian.org/removing-non-free-documentation
 * http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

The etch release policy says binary and source packages must each be free:
 * http://release.debian.org/etch_rc_policy.txt

The severity is serious, because this violates the Debian policy:
 * http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-archive.html#s-dfsg

There are (at least) three ways to fix this problem. In order of
preference:

1. Ask the author of the RFC to re-license the RFC under a free
license. A template for this e-mail request can be found at
   http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

2. Remove the non-free material from the source, e.g., by re-packaging
the upstream archive and adding a 'dfsg' version name to it.

3. Move the package to non-free.

I went over many packages looking for names of likely non-free files,
and there may be false positives. If this is the case for your
package, I'm sorry for the noise. I'll modify the scripts to take
into account false positives when I learn of them, and publish the
list of exceptions under "Known exceptions" at
.

Thanks,
Simon

Bug#396323: clean target broken

2006-11-04 Thread Goswin Brederlow
Package: rpncalc
Version: 1.36.3
Followup-For: Bug #396323

Hi,

rhe source package contains the *.o and rpnclac binary from the i386
build and they don't get cleaned nor rebuild.

The problem for this FTBFS is the "clean" target. It is missing
$(MAKE) clean

retitle 336198 [Waiting for submitter] AMD64: Kernel 2.6.16 and firmware 1.3

Hi there, Hans

Did you make any progress on this issue?
Daniel told me that he is working on ipw* this weekend and I would like
you to upgrade to the latest available kernel version in Debian
(linux-image-2.6.18-1-ARCH), and then update ipw2100 to the version
Daniel is about to upload, I think this bug should be fixed too.

Thanks for any input you can provide.

Package: ngrep
Version: 1.44-2
Severity: important
Tags: security

ngrep's signal handler, clean_exit(), calls free() and other cleanup
functions in a non-idempotent way. There is an easy way to trigger the
bug by running "ngrep . | cat", then pressing Ctrl-C. ngrep will get a
SIGINT signal from the shell, and a SIGPIPE signal from the dying cat
process, resulting in clean_exit() being called twice.

Adding some code like this at the beginning of clean_exit() probably
fixes the issue:

static volatile int cleaned = 0;
if(cleaned++) exit(sig);

This is probably a security issue, too, because the data ngrep is
handling comes from the network, but it does not seem to be easily
exploitable (famous last words, I know). Feel free to remove the
security tag if you disagree, but a process running as root dumping
core does not seem right to me in any case.

Also the argument for clean_exit seems wrong to me, signal(2) says
int, not int32_t.

Thanks for your patch, sorry for the 'uncomplete cleanup' of the latest upload.

I'm building it and will upload it asap (I'm commiting the
modifications to subversion right now)

Hi,

libc6/ldconfig is broken on plain i486 and i586 platforms.
It is due to

 * sysdeps/i386.mk: ship the Xen flavour of ldconfig in libc6.
It should be a few percent slower on plain i386, but a lot faster on Xen
i386.

As a result of "xen_configure_target=i686-linux",
ldconfig needs cmov capable processor :-(

Bug#397032: zinf: Fails to start with X error

2006-11-04 Thread Alexander E. Patrakov

Package: zinf
Version: 2.2.5-5.2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Every time I start zinf, it shows the filetype association dialog, and
then quits. If I start it from the console, I see the following error:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ zinf

`pixmap == NULL || gdk_drawable_get_depth (window) ==

The program '' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
 (Details: serial 1202 error_code 8 request_code 62 minor_code 0)
 (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

xorg.conf is attached.

Bug#397027: nvidia-glx: Can't start Xorg - wrong version of NVIDIA X driver

2006-11-04 Thread Johannes Bittner
Package: nvidia-glx
Version: 1.0.8776-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi there.

I just updated to the the newest nvidia kernelmodule using
module-assist, so far everything went right. After installing the
updated kernel-modules, the kernels says, as expected:

NVRM: loading NVIDIA Linux x86 Kernel Module 1.0-8776 Mon Oct 16 21:56:04 PDT

Thereafter, I updated nvidia-glx and nvidia-glx-dev, and in the end,
dpkg says:

i nvidia-glx 1.0.8776-1 NVIDIA
binary XFree86 4.x driver

ii nvidia-kernel-common 20051028+1 NVIDIA
binary kernel module common files
ii nvidia-settings 1.0+20060516-3 Tool of
configuring the NVIDIA graphics driv

As you can see, everything got updated to the current version. But Xorg
fails to start. What follows is a cut-out of Xorg.0.log:

Hello,
cyrus-sasl2-mit and cyrus-sasl2 are different source packages. However
cyrus-sasl2 2.1.22 (in experimental) builds
libsasl2-modules-gssapi-mit to replace libsasl2-gssapi-mit built from
the cyrus-sasl2-mit package.

However afaict there is currently no package replacing

Package: libsasl2-krb4-mit (2.1.19.dfsg1-1)
Kerberos4 module for SASL using MIT Kerberos

This is the Cyrus SASL API implementation, version 2. See package
libsasl2 and RFC for more information.

This package provides the Kerberos4 module compiled against the MIT
implementation of Kerberos.

in the *new* cyrus-sasl.

I have no idea whether it should be done or whether Kerberos4 is dead
and intentionally unsupported in the new sasl.

Bug#396836: gaim-encryption: Segfaults on loading

2006-11-04 Thread Damyan Ivanov

Hi, Leo,

Leo Antunes wrote:

Can you provide mor details regarding this segfault? Does it happen only
on startup? Or anytime you load the plugin during gaim use?

Anytime I try to load the plugin. Can't tell about the startup, since
gaim is unable to save its configuration due to the segfault on
plugin-load.

Could you try reseting your generetad keys to see if it persists? (Keep
the old ones as backup, in case this proves helpful they can highlight
the problem)

I will, but perhaps not during the weekend.

Did you say it still happens exactly the same way (apart from the error
output) using the libc from unstable?

Yes.

According to the backtrace, it seems more likely to be a libnspr bug,
since the free() is being called from deep inside the nss/nspr stack,
but nevertheless, we should take a better look.

That was my impression too. But since my experience with both
gaim-encryption and libnspr is void, I didn't draw any conclusions.

Thanks for your time, I'll report what happens when keys are reset.

What happens is then a chain reaciton leading to an editor _implicitly_
messing with the cinfiguration files. This is not what policy permits,
and I find it sane for policy to not allow this.

Please try take a look at this from a non-"we want everything automated"
standpoint, and see if you don't agree with me: The issue here is
avoiding surprises for the local admin. It would be a surprise to me if
a core functionality of the Debian packaging system broke due to
enabling CFengine using purely Debian CFengine scripts.

I believe this bug should be left open until all configuration that
Debian-EDU wants different than the default is changeable in a way
supported by the packages themselves, rather than from Debian-EDU
overriding.

Until then, I believe it best for Debian-EDU to either instruct the
local admin to explicitly do the changes necessary but not allowed by
Debian policy, or to distribute Debian-EDU as a minor fork of Debian
with the policy-breaking behaviour enabled.

Regards,

 - Jonas

Bug#397015: obexpushd: FTBFS: conflicting types for 'obex_auth_unpack_response'

2006-11-04 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Package: obexpushd
Version: 0.4-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

Your package is failing to build on a few arches with the following
error:
cc -g -W -Wall -pedantic -std=c99 -Wall -g -O2 -c -o obex_auth.o
obex_auth.c
obex_auth.c:99: error: conflicting types for 'obex_auth_unpack_response'
obex_auth.h:19: error: previous declaration of 'obex_auth_unpack_response' was
here

Since it affects 64 bit arches and s390, I'm guessing that one has a
size_t while the other an int or something.

Could you please send us your complete X logs and configuration?
Without them it's very unlikely we'll be able to debug this problem.

thanks

I am not able to reproduce this problem, with either an English or a Spanish
locale (I tried French, but gnome seems to think the fr_FR.UTF-8 locale
doesn't exist when it definitely does). All the evidence so far points to a
dbus problem, not an X or a gnome-session problem; and the dbus hangs don't
appear for me either. So I'm going to go ahead and downgrade this bug.

Thanks,

va_list is an opaque type, it just happens to convert to something

Please fix this package to either depend on the other libraries it will tell
packages to use, or to not output transitive dependencies in its -config
script since this is not the common case.

Marked as 'serious' because without these dependencies, the upstream
interface for specifying linker options isn't consistently usable on Debian.

Bug#387928: fontconfig: Cannot write cache files

2006-11-04 Thread Steve Langasek
severity 387928 important
thanks

The only way I am able to reproduce this bug is if I have a fonts.conf
without a cache directive, and the only way I am able to get a
fonts.conf without a cache directive is by modifying this conffile and
then disallowing dpkg to update the conffile on upgrade.

That is not a release-critical bug; there are plenty of cases when
keeping an old, custom config around on your system results in a broken
package and requires manual intervention to get it working again. These
are the consequences that the admin must accept responsibility for when
deviating from the Debian-provided conffile.

So since no one has shown a way that Debian itself can trigger this bug
(a clean sarge chroot+fontconfig, dist-upgraded to etch, does not
produce the bug), I believe it should be downgraded.

dblatex 0.2-1 has just been uploaded to mentors.debian.net. Steve, if
you still have time to sponsor it, this would be great.

Some short comments:

The documentation of package cdbs is a good test candidate, as it uses
dblatex: "make pdf" respectively "make ps"

The warnings at dblatex upgrade to 0.2-1 about not being able to delete
not empty directory /etc/dblatex/ is related to solved bug #395207. I
don't know of any way to avoid these warnings, nevertheless the postinst
will remove the former conffiles if (and only if) all of them are
unmodified.

Besides passed lintian, linda and pbuilder tests my private little
DocBook regression test suite builds well in pbuilder (and the results
look like expected), thus I'm quite confident that the package is in
good shape despite the major changes.

And finally: Is the the version's low urgency appropriate, or should I
(or you) increase it?

Thanks, Andreas Hoenen

Version: 1.5.1-2
Severity: serious

Rebuilds of libccaudio on i386 for the libcommoncpp2 library transition are
failing, because ccgnu2-config --extlibs now outputs the names of libraries
that libcommoncpp2-dev doesn't depend on:

$ ccgnu2-config --extlibs

Please fix this package to either depend on the other libraries it will tell
packages to use, or to not output transitive dependencies in its -config
script since this is not the common case.

Marked as 'serious' because without these dependencies, the upstream
interface for specifying linker options isn't consistently usable on Debian.

Bug#392951: Reason for these bugs

2006-11-04 Thread Marc 'HE' Brockschmidt
Heya,

All these three packages (toolchain-source, llvm, mingw32) contain
copies of the gcc sources in recent versions, so they include GFDLed
material, just like gcc. Similiar patches should probably be applied.

Hi Flavio,

You wrote a week ago that this bug would be fixed in the next upload. When
can we expect that upload to happen?

Thanks,
