Hi,

When asterisk is rebuilt, the 
/usr/lib/asterisk/modules/format_ogg_vorbis.so file disappears from the 
asterisk-classic and asterisk-bristuff packages.

This means that when the security team will rebuild the packages (if 
needed), the file will disappear, and users will be confused.

I guess that asterisk needs to build-depend on libogg-dev and 
libvorbis-dev (not tried).

On some non-i386 architectures, the file is already missing.

I think this bug is comparable to a FTBFS, hence setting it to serious 
severity.

Assuming you do have xfonts-base installed, it looks as though your
font paths are set incorrectly.  Could you please tell us what settings
you use (Section "Files" in /etc/X11/xorg.conf) ?

Reconfiguring xserver-xorg to create a new xorg.conf will probably fix
the problem.

Bug#396158: duplicity and python2.4

Trying to get a working duplicity again (sigh), I rebuilt it to use
python2.4. Contrary to what I reported in #386607 before, this seems to
work ok; I can restore my old backups, and make new ones.

So I'd suggest reassigning this back to duplicity, maybe leaving a
normal severity bug cloned to python-central for its apparent problems
with supporting python 2.3, and uploading duplicity with the attached
patch. I've installed this on all my machines and it seems ok.

As a result, my current understanding of the state of this bug is that: the
debian/copyright file for the package does correctly list *a* set of license
terms for the software, even if they're not the license terms that we want
to be distributing the software under in order to comply with the DFSG; and
the work (or a newer version of it from the same copyright holder) is
available upstream under a DFSG-free license.

The first bug is an important bug, rather than a serious bug; the second one
qualifies for an etch-ignore tag.  So I'm adding that tag now.  Please let
me know if I've misunderstood some detail of this package's situation (or
just upload the bugfix so I don't have to worry about it ;).

Taking a look at the assembler output for core_cia, this is due to use of
the ldbu, ldwu, stb, and stw instructions in asm-alpha/compiler.h, which are
instructions specific to ev56 and above.  They are also guarded in the
source by an #if !defined(__alpha_bwx__).  It looks like the difference is
in the assembler between gcc-4.0 and gcc-4.1; specifically, gcc-4.1 emits a
'.arch ev5' directive, where gcc-4.0 does not.

Since the errors from the assembler really indicate that these instructions
are not supported by the ev5 (gcc-4.0 has the same problem assembling the
gcc-4.1 output as gcc-4.1 itself does, due to the .arch ev5 declaration),
and this kernel code hasn't changed recently that I see, it seems to be the
case that ev5 processors are already unsupported by the current kernel in
etch.  Given that no one has complained about this to date (at least that
I'm aware of), is it time to explicitly bump the baseline on alpha to ev56
for etch?

Cc:ed to debian-alpha to get feedback from the user community on the
prevalence of ev5 systems today.  Also cc:ed to Falk, as the last alpha
porter to touch the subarch handling in Debian's gcc packages :)

Maybe, but the bottom line is that this wasn't working for you because you
had conflicting software on the system that was manually installed.  So

But clearly if you're just reporting this strangeness now, months after the
package was uploaded, the package isn't actually unusable.  So why should
this be grave?

BTW, the packages in sarge shipped the same way, with no ill effects...

  okay I already answered to that, at least I thought so. it seems the
forked daemon is unable to write its PID in the pidfile, whereas I keep
the file open. what I do is:

  1/ I open the pidfile when I'm started as root
  2/ I downgrate the privileges, and keep the file open.
  3/ I fork
  4/ I truncate the file to write my new pid <--- crash

  do you run selinux or sth like that ? that should work because the
file descriptor is kept open after a fork. I'm completely unable to
reproduce that :|

While checking the current CVE issues, I found CVE-2006-3336:

TWiki 01-Dec-2000 up to 4.0.3 allows remote attackers to bypass the
upload filter and execute arbitrary code via filenames with double
extensions such as ".php.en", ".php.1", and other allowed extensions
that are not .txt.  NOTE: this is only a vulnerability when the server
allows script execution in the pub directory.

Note that I have not checked whether this actually affects the Debian
version. Please mention the CVE-id in the changelog if it does.

CVE-2006-1387: "TWiki 4.0, 4.0.1, and 20010901 through 20040904 allows
remote authenticated users with edit rights to cause a denial of service
(infinite recursion leading to CPU and memory consumption) via INCLUDE
by URL statements that form a loop, such as a page that includes
itself."

TWiki has released an advisory [1] about this issue.  The attached patch
implements the recommended hotfix by disabling the INCLUDE directive.

to build from source on the mipsel [1] and arm [2] architectures
because some of the tests fail:


 Byteswapping is not being done correctly on this system.
 Check the MACHINE and BYTESWAPPED definitions in fitsio2.h
 Please report this problem to the author at

This issue has already been reported as #339758 [3] against the cfitsio
package. It was reportedly fixed in cfitsio3 3.006-1, but unfortunately
the fix doesn't seem to work, as libastro-fits-cfitsio-perl is currently
using cfitsio3 and still gets the same error.

I'm Ccing the cfitsio library author, Dr. William Pence
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, as the error message suggests.

Unfortunately I don't have access to an arm or mipsel box myself, so
I can't suggest a fix. I hope somebody else can. The current cfitsio3
version in Debian is 3.006, but the code in fitsio2.h looks the same in
the latest version, 3.02.

I'm also Ccing the #339758 submitter, Rafael Laboissiere
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, who provided the patch for this earlier.

If the byteswapping problem makes cfitsio unusable on mipsel and arm,
which seems probable given that a function called fits_create_file()
is apparently affected, then I suppose #339758 should be considered
release-critical against both cfitsio and cfitsio3. I'll leave that
for the cfitsio Debian maintainer, Gopal Narayanan, and the release
team to judge.

Finally, I note that the libastro-fits-cfitsio-perl tests have failed
on mipsel and arm all the time, including the current version in stable
(1.03-1). The errors were just ignored earlier.

So, it seems we should plan and implement denial of the resizing for 
Vista, asap. This is not so bad, because Vista started to include a 
non-destructive resizer.

Frans, how do you detect Vista? My idea is to check for the transactional 
directory. However this won't be enabled by default, so it may not exist
at all.

I checked for the latest Vista beta, which is RC2 Build 5744 currently. So 
we still have hope that Microsoft has fixed this serious problem.

Hi,

now that I did a ls -l /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers, I found out what
the problem was:

In the aforementioned directory, both "nvidia_drv.o" (the one from
current the nvidia-glx package) and "nvidia_drv.so" (the old one, 8774)
existed, and Xorg prefered nvidia_drv.so

I think the drivername should be named "nvidia_drv.so" instead of
"nvidia_drv.o", as every other driver in that directory ends also with
".so", shouldn't it?

If you upgrade to the latest available kernel version in Debian
(linux-image-2.6.18-1-ARCH), and then update ieee80211-source to the
version Daniel is about to upload, I think this bug should be fixed too. 
  
I am feeling tempted to merge both reports, how do you feel about this?

It would be preferrable to fix hunspell to be compilable
on arm. Since it compiles and fails only a few tests, it's
probably doable. Usually arm-specific porting issues 
are related either to the arm's mixed-endian double, or 
struct packing.

I can provide an account on arm machine for debugging.

.idesktop directory? because the program has a bug with this. Please
move the directory to other location.

sorry. i hope to have the correct output attached this time.

if it would be helpful to rebuild idesk with debugging information and
run strace/gdb against this package, i could do this as well. i just
don't know how to do that exactly, but maybe removing dh_strip from
debian/rules is all i need to do?

Which I also think is a good idea, since this way, we share bugs and
security issues, which can be fixed in a centralized way.

Let's go through a potential ffmpeg update in detail:

Sam prepares a new ffmpeg package. There are basically 3 possibilities:

 a) the update doesn't change anything at the (exposed) interface to
applications
 b) the update introduces additional symbols, and doesn't change
semantics
 c) the update removes symbols or changes semantics to existing
functions.

a) isn't critical at all and can be uploaded without any
coordination. Most updates to packaging or configure options fall to
this category.

b) isn't too critical as well. You just need to make sure that an
mplayer binary which is built against this update isn't used with an
older ffmpeg binary package. This is done using the debian shlibs system
in an (semi) automatic way. In this case, Sam needs to update the
dh_makeshlibs call in his debian/rules, and the dh_shlibdeps of
debian/rules of the mplayer package will generate correct versioned
dependencies.

c) is critical, because binary packages which got built against the
current package NEED to be rebuilt against the updated package. In this
case (and only here) upstream (well, Sam in this case) needs to "bump"
the SONAME, and Sam needs to change the name of the binary package. When
he uploads this to unstable, all depending package will become instantly
uninstallable, until they get rebuilt. 

Sam told me on irc that he check every package using ffmpeg that it
still builds with the updated ffmpeg package. If he could provide such
updated packages in experimental, I'd be happy to upload newer package
to experimental as well for testing to build and look for (potential)
regressions. Then we could coordinate an upload of all ffmpeg
related/using packages.

Yes, this is case c) from above.

since all package using libavcodec0d become uninstallable when it gets
superseeded by libavcodec1d, all package should better be rebuilt

So far, I didn't notice any problems with ffmpeg updates yet. xine is
focusing on an internal snapshot and only supports its interface, but as
said, I didn't have problems yet. I know that problems due to ABI/API
changes aren't too unlikely, and in this case, I'd have to look for an
patch from xine cvs for a newer ffmpeg.

xine 1.1.2, which is currently in etch, uses and older ffmpeg snapshot
internally. I didn't spot any problems using the newer ffmpeg debian
(other that the newly introduced ffmpeg features like WMV9 support isn't
available in 1.1.2). The current cvs, which will become xine 1.1.3 is
using an newer ffmpeg snapshot. I'm uploading that branch from time to
time to debian/experimental for regression tests.

I'm speaking for myself. However, we already have unfixed issues in
libavcodec in Sarge, which are very time-consuming to fix and apparently

Thanks for the verbose explanation. gst-ffmpeg is indeed an exceptional
case, which we'll support for Etch. (That's also why there is no RC bug
on it).

  is that there should be less copies of ffmpeg around

I try to clarify things: currently
$ objdump -p /usr/lib/libavcodec.so.0d.51.11.0 | grep SONAME
  SONAME  libavcodec.so.0d
Suppose Sam packs a new FFMpeg package from current SVN, and, since it
is is incompatible with xine and other sw already using libavcodec0d ,
it puts it in binary libavcodec1d and gives it a SONAME of
libavcodec.so.1d; then I may link MPlayer with that lib, with no fear of
breakage.

But this would not solve the original question of having one less copy
of ffmpeg around, right? unless also all other sw would be modified to
work with the new libavcodec.so.1d , and libavcodec0d is removed from etch.

(#394853). A patch is provided on this other bug report.

About the archive rebuilt:
The rebuilt was done on about 60 AMD64 nodes of the Grid'5000 platform,
using a chroot containing an etch i386 environment (not unstable).
Internet was not accessible from the build nodes.

This is needed for the debugger tool. A solution could be to drop the
debugger tool from the package. We have to patch the file:
toolsrc/org/mozilla/javascript/tools/debugger/build.xml or the

Bug#395079: grace: missing dependancy on gconf2

Hi grace maintainers,

I ran into the above-mentioned bug as well.  I realise it is now fixed
by adding a dependency to gconf2.  However, with this, you are forcing
people to install 7.2 MB of stuff, with, as far as I could judge, the
only purpose being that a configuration script runs properly.  This
seems rather excessive!  

So my query: Is there any way the configuration can be made
independent of gconf-schemas/gconf2?  (Obviously, you'll have
understood by now I don't use gnome myself...).

When cvsnt is rebuilt, the files in /usr/lib/cvsnt/database/ disappear 
from the package.

This means that when the security team will rebuild the packages (if
needed), the file will disappear, and users will be confused.

Adding unixodbc-dev and libpq-dev to the build-depends seems to fix the 
problem.

I think this bug is comparable to a FTBFS, hence setting it to serious
severity.

On the other hand, those files are currently only available on the 
powerpc and mipsel architecture, so they may be unwanted. In that case, 
feel free to downgrade the severity. But you still should fix this with 
a proper call to the ./configure script.
