Unfortunately, spontini is still locked down.

As far as I can tell there is nothing different :)

Bug#379628: [Linux-NTFS-Dev] Bug#379628: CALL FOR HELP: Vista beta compatibility testing

2006-11-29 Thread Anton Altaparmakov
Szaka wrote: "pointless to empty journal if clean"...

It is NOT pointless to empty. I think you do not understand how
journalling in Windows works (or I don't understand it... (-;). My
understanding is that regardless whether the journal is clean or not
Windows can/will parse the journal (at least in some cases, depends on the
exact state of the journal) and redo various things/undo others as parts
of its journalling startup. Normally this has no effect as it just writes
the same data over the existing data (unless a weird crash occurred in
which case it will repair the volume). However when you have modified the
volume underneath with another ntfs driver or with ntfsresize or whatever,
then doing such redo/undo operations are fatal. Well they can be fatal
anyway. I guess in most cases they will silently corrupt stuff that one
will not know about or even just write over now random locations on disk.
The problem is this is totally unpredictable. The only way to make not
emptying the journal safe is to do journalling and keep the journal
uptodate. But none of us know how to do that so we better empty it to
make sure everything is ok...

Best regards,

Anton

Bug#401006: libtorrent9: safe_sync errors

2006-11-29 Thread Skibbi
Package: libtorrent9
Version: 0.10.4-1
Severity: grave
Justification: causes non-serious data loss

Few days ago I've installed linux-image-2.6.18-3-686. Since then
rtorrent/libtorrent started to behave strange. After downloading the
files, when hash check was performed, rtorrent began to display following
errors:
bad CRC check consider using 'safe_sync'
Turning on safe sync didn't help.

I believe that these errors are caused by the following changes in the kernel
package:
   * Fix msync() for LSB 3.1 compliance, backport fedora patches from
2.6.19
- mm: tracking shared dirty pages
- mm: balance dirty pages
- mm: optimize the new mprotect() code a bit
- mm: small cleanup of install_page()
- mm: fixup do_wp_page()
- mm: msync() cleanup (closes: #394392)

With linux-image-2.6.18-2 the problem does not occur.

Bug#399828: [GRASS-dev] gps

2006-11-29 Thread Hamish

> Thanks to the enlightenments from guru Frankie (Lovergine), I have

hopefully I'll get my hands on one of our garmins in the next days to
begin some testing with gpstrans ver 0.40. (it's prime field season
here, so no promises of quick access)

Reproducing your bug & confirming the graveness or non-graveness of
debian bug #399828 is a high priority for me as I am very interested in
Etch being released with a working gpstrans package.

> My conclusions are:
> - - gpstrans has serious problems (it does not check the input, and
> thus crashes easily when encountering unexpected, but valid, strings)

yes, it has always been fragile, but I wouldn't call them serious
problems. If run with correct inputs it works fine (ver 0.39), and when
used from within a script (like v.in.garmin) the inputs are always
given in the correct form. It would be nice to have it be a bit more
robust but I'm not going to spend much time worrying about someone
mispelling /dev/ttyS0 as "com1" etc.

> - - it does not seem actively maintained anymore

AFAICT James Van Zandt (the debian package maintainer) became the
de-facto upstream maintainer and released a new version (0.40) in May
2006. The latest date in the ChangeLog for that release is listed as
2006-05-08 with several new development updates. (presumably the cause
of your instability).

> - - it does not support many modern devices

It's a tool for serial garmins, and with those devices it works quite
well. The new version purportedly will handle new devices, but as I
don't have any of those on hand ;) I can't really comment on that.
=
gpstrans (0.40-1) unstable; urgency=low
  * New upstream release: understands most (all?) Garmin formats

sure. redundancy is good.

I prefer to use v.in.garmin, and will actively maintain it as long as we
need it in our work, and do not consider that wasted time (also because
I feel some responsibility having written or rewritten much of it). At
the same time I will leave any v.in.gpsbabel development to the module's
authors, beyond simple/obvious fixes (mostly because I am not actively
using it).

ie here at my work we have a working solution with v.in.garmin and I
see no need to spend valuable time/effort converting to something else.

Also v.in.garmin (and gpstrans) is mature, v.in.gpsbabel is not (yet):

> I think v.in.gpsbabel needs some care, possibly tweaking etc., but
> being a script this should be easy and quick.

Yes, I think it will be very nice after a little more tweaking and
testing, but there is still some work to be done. I have trouble testing
it further due to a firmware bug in all our Garmins (timestamps shift
off-by-one after the memory wraps, ie between downloads if unit is
permanently logging; no response from the company) so I am never sure
exactly what is the script going wrong and what is broken input.

Hamish

If the journal is not clean then the mount is refused. This detection was
added later, previously the journal cleaning was unconditional because we
didn't know if it's clean or not.

So, I don't see a big problem here. The reliability of ntfsresize and
ntfs-3g seems to confirm this. Nobody reported corruptions, in fact, people
are finding bad hardwares (RAM, disk, cable) and softwares during usage and
testing. Almost like ZFS :-)))

> No wonder Vista does not boot!!!

I still wonder why it doesn't boot. As I explained in my previous email,
ntfsresize resets the journal unless the empty journal detection fails.

For me it seems it worked as it should have. If the journal is clean,
then theoretically it's pointless to empty. If unclean then mount is
unconditionally refused.

They can't actually force obfuscation beause the code is under MIT/X11
(well... most of it. We need to clarify the situation of nv_hw.c badly).
The nouveau project is deobfuscating the code as they go. Even if their DRI
work isn't ready for Lenny, we'll definitely be pulling their deobfuscated
code.

Bug#400998: ddclient: fails to preserve local config

2006-11-29 Thread Justin Pryzby
Package: ddclient
Version: 3.6.7-2
Severity: serious
Justification: 10.7.3.

I have a custom-written /etc/ddclient.conf, since the debconf
interface didn't support things I needed, but which are supported by
ddclient (or, I figured out how to do it without debconf before I
figured out how to do it with it). My config file has multiple
stanzas for multiple hosts, yet dpkg-reconfigure ddclient has only one
host, presumably because debconf has ddclient/names with only one
host.

My understanding of the popular interpretation of relevant policy is
that packages are required to parse their config files and seed
debconf with their values, and avoid prompting the user with "whatever
they answered last time or otherwise might happen to be in the cache".

Another ntfsresize design rule was that it doesn't make __ANY__
modification to NTFS until it checked and analyzed the volume and it found
to be consistent and safe for resizing. This is very important. It's even
explicitely written in the error messages when corrupt volumes are detected
which happen relatively often:

NTFS is inconsistent. Run chkdsk /f on Windows then reboot it TWICE!
The usage of the /f parameter is very IMPORTANT! No modification was
and will be made to NTFS by this software until it gets repaired.

A lot of softwares, drivers corrupt NTFS and this is a very strong
argument for self-protection that it was not ntfsresize which corrupted it
because it was already damaged when user wanted to do the resizing.

> Please take the time to review the patches...

Surely I would but I don't have much free time recently, and unfortunately
it doesn't help that seemingly you have checked in your entire private
ntfsprogs CVS in one commmit.

To be honest, I still can't even see what the problem was. You wrote the
journal wasn't emptied. But ntfsresize explicitely does that. Which
function became conditional. And perhaps the problem is that that the clean
journal detection is broken for Vista. For example, because of journal
format change.

I have checked the ntfsresize journal reset again, without your latest
patches. After the resize:

  ntfscat -fi 2 /dev/hda1 | hexdump
ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff
  *
  02a04000

So, the journal has been reset, entirely. You say that this is not the case
for Vista?

Bug#400874: I hope this is the right fix...

2006-11-29 Thread Andreas Henriksson
tags 400874 + patch
thanks

Here's the off-by-one fix for apt. Now that it's solved it seems so
obvious... valgrind was right! (Could someone please rerun valgrind with
this patch applied?!)

Please verify for correctness, this patch "works for me" (and in my
current state seems to be the right fix, I'll try to have a closer look
at it tomorrow or maybe later...)

Problem described in:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=400874;msg=36

Workaround:
http://fatal.se/tmp/aptsource-workaround.diff

Probably/hopefully this is the "real" fix:
http://fatal.se/tmp/aptsource-fix.diff
(this one also attached)

Patch attached.

Andreas Henriksson

Bug#400072: museek+: FTBFS: IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'mucipher.i':

2006-11-29 Thread Nicolas François
tags 400072 patch
thanks

Hello,

Please find attached a patch to fix the FTBFS.

I removed mucipher.i from the sources list in Mucipher/python/SConscript.
sources is used to make a SharedLibrary, and scons has no way to use it
for inclusion in a library.
This does not seems to be a source file. And the package builds cleanly
without.

In the same file, I changed the order of the arguments of file_copy to
match the Environment.Command documentation.

The change in Tools/SConscript is due to a bug in scons. I will file a bug
against scons, but for the moment, I recommend to use it (otherwise, scons
compile with "-D{'HAVE_VORBIS': 1}" instead of -DHAVE_VORBIS=1)
This could be fixed in other ways (e.g. by using a tupple instead of a
dictionnary: env_libmuscan.Append(CPPDEFINES = ("HAVE_VORBIS", 1)), but
this behavior do not seems to be documented.

Kind Regards,

Well, in any case, I have been right to setup a dsfg.1 release... ;)
You did not mention those files in your initial bug report, you just
mentioned [1].

Of course, I will remove them too, but our dear Release Managers will
probably tag this bug as etch-ignore. I did not give them the time
to do so on this one when you submitted it in the first place. ;P

Bug#400121: Can't reproduce 400121 with libpcre3

2006-11-29 Thread Tom Parker

Mark Baker wrote:

There is a limit recursion feature of PCRE, which the calling program
could use.

There appears to be two options here:
1) Punt back to Konqueror, and get them (or whatever they're calling
that uses libpcre3 - note that libpcre3 is *not* in the dependancies of
konqueror 4:3.5.5a.dfsg.1-2, so this probably needs doing somewhere
else) and get them to use the recursion limiting of pcre to clip it at a
few thousand - your stack trace got to 8156 iterations, so clipping at
say 4000 or so should be plenty for most sane things while not limiting
most applications. This is a bit of a hack around, but would fix the
security issue (well, unless some user sets their stack size even smaller)

2) Figure out a way to fix this properly by getting libpcre to realise
it's run out of stack space (possibly by not spawning new copies of
match() unless there's some minimum value of stack free), and to return
some form of "match failed badly, here's an error" up to the calling
app. Not sure how you'd do that cleanly offhand. Catching SIGSEGV might
work, but would be like using a sledgehammer to crack peanuts (as well
as screwing with any application that's catching SIGSEGV for it's own
reasons). Best option here is probably forwarding to upstream and seeing
what their thoughts are. I guess as the package maintainer you're
probably on the mailing list for them?

Bug#400355: mozart-gtk: FTBFS: arch is unknown ?

2006-11-29 Thread Kevin Glynn

Hi Julien,

Can you send me the output of this command when run on this machine
(nasya):

   echo "`uname -m` `uname -s` `uname -r`"

Do you know if there is anything different about this machine compared
to the other autobuilders. If you have access it would be helpful if
you could also run the above command on spontini as well.

Thanks for the report,

Kevin

Package: gnome-applets
Version: 2.14.3-1+b1

I use the drivemount applet. I click "unmount" and in a second it
signals the USB device is correctly disconnected. However, the cache is
still being flushed, device LED is blinking, and sync command lasts a
while, until the buffers are REALLY flushed to the device.

This can cause data loss, if the user relies on the applet's claims.

I have USB1.1 on VIA KT133A QDI Kinetiz 7E motherboard (VIA686B). The
bug has been encounetered using two different USB Mass Storage devices.

Package: gnome-applets
Version: 2.12.3-1
Severity: important

When unmounting a volume with the drivemount applet, unmounting seems to be
done asynchronously to the display of the status of the volume in the icon.
The icons show the volume as unmounted while it's still unmounting, for
instance flushing modifications made to a slow device like USB memory.
If the user trust the status and ejects the unit physically, it has great
chances to breaking the filesystem (or the device).

I think the applet should only display unmounted units when umount has finished.

Severity important since can lead to data corruption pretty easily !

Best regards,

Hi! I looked at the version 1:7.2.2.dfsg.1-2 package, and it seems
the bug have not been fixed. I still see these files in the source
package:

  ircd-hybrid-7.2.2.dfsg.1/doc/technical/rfc1459.txt
  ircd-hybrid-7.2.2.dfsg.1/doc/technical/rfc2812.txt
  ircd-hybrid-7.2.2.dfsg.1/doc/technical/rfc2813.txt

The contents of the files is the real IETF RFCs, which are not
licensed under a free license.

Thanks,
Simon

This was because of #397619 in cfitsio3, fixed in 3.006-1.3 (in unstable,
not yet in etch.)

I'm CCing the mipsel and arm buildd maintainers. Could you please requeue
libastro-fits-cfitsio-perl?

That comment was unnecessary, since the maintainer has been answering emails
about bugs.

I am planning to prepare an upload version based on 0.10.3-dev tomorrow at
work, since i have had a busy personal life.

Thanks for your bugs reports.

This is fully reproducible on my alpha development machine into a

I am turning around to fix this bug. :( It is release-critical,
because it prevents the package from going to testing and thus from
fixing 2 other RC bugs.

Bug#400563: dbconfig-common: bashisms in scripts

2006-11-29 Thread sean finney
severity 400563 wishlist
retitle 400563 shell scripts not strictly POSIX conformant
tags 400563 wontfix

hi dilinger,

as seen above, i'm lowering the severity of this for the time being,
after getting a verification from some rm's via IRC that this isn't
a serious issue.

furthermore, the currently circulating posix/sh policy amendment
includes mention of local along with "echo -n" in the additional
requirements to the POSIX requirements.

of course if you have $patch which gives me the features of local
in a strictly POSIX environment, i'd be interested in revisiting
the issue.

thanks,
sean

kinit [EMAIL PROTECTED]
password: foobarbaz

apt-get install cyrus21-clients

imtest -m gssapi -u hartmans imap.suchdamage.org

You get a base64 decoding error. With the old sasl you should get an
authentication failure because testprinc is not allowed to read my
mail.

Bug#400923: bug not in gdm; possibly multi-gnome-terminal?

2006-11-29 Thread Jeff Beaird
I've discovered that this is _not_ a gdm bug, as the environment
variable is set correctly when running gnome-terminal. The problem
exists when I use, multi-gnome-terminal.

I note that there are a number of environment variables inherited by a
gnome-terminal session that are not inherited by a multi-gnome-terminal
session; the two that matter the most to me are $DISPLAY and
$SSH_AGENT_PID.

This bug should probably be moved to the multi-gnome-terminal package.

I would be more than happy w/ just simple documentation stating that
bash must be used in postinst scripts (and bash as a dependency). It
took me a while to discover that the problems I was having were due to
me inadvertently using dash, as initially dbconfig-common would report
success but not create a database (causing me to think there was
something wrong w/ my usage). Having that actually documented would've
saved me time and effort.

I'm reassigning this back to lprof since it's been marked as being
blocked by the actual scons issue. If you want to reassign it to scons
please merge it with 400922 but it looks like there's been some crossing
in the post with regard to how this is handled.

Bug#400582: arbitrary code execution in metaInfo.php in torrentflux

2006-11-29 Thread Stefan Fritsch
I didn't have time yet to look at it thoroughly (or test it), but
AFAICS you now check the file for existance before passing it to the
shell. This should convert the remote command execution vuln into a
local priviledge escalation. A local user can do

touch '/tmp/`touch /tmp/hello`'

and pass the filename to torrentflux and so get the command executed
as user www-data. This is definitely less severe than before but IMHO
still a bug. It would also convert any vulnerability to create a file
with arbitrary name into a code execution vulnerability.

Cheers,
Stefan

Oh, I just realised python-support will only warn about failed
byte-compilation not only at the time of a python upgrades, but also
of Mailman install/upgrade. So we can just consider this "not a bug"

Bug#400786: php-imagick_0.9.11+1-4.1(ia64/unstable): FTBFS: missing build-deps?

2006-11-29 Thread Daniel Kobras
Package: php-imagick
Followup-For: Bug #400786

This bug is caused by a missing build-dependency on libxt-dev in
imagemagick (and subsequently a missing dependency in the -dev package).
The ia64 buildd happened to have libxt-dev installed when building the
previous imagemagick upload and thus uncovered the bug. I've just
NMUed imagemagick with a fix, and php-imagick could either be requeued
on ia64 afterwards, or bin-NMUed on all archs to pick up a consistent
set of dependencies. Source changes to php-imagick aren't strictly
needed. They're still a good idea, though, because the library
dependencies are superfluous anyway and can be avoided by changing
config.m4 to use "pkg-config ImageMagick" instead of "Magick-config".

Regards,

Daniel.

Apparently, there was a way to force kronolith2 versions 2.1.0 up to
2.1.3 (and 2.0.0 up to 2.0.7) to include an arbitrary file in some
page it serves. Solved by new upstream version. CVE number unknown.

Unknown whether kronolith (1.x) in sarge is similarly vulnerable (that
version is not supported upstream anymore).

calendars, remote calendars, meeting management, alarms, recurring events, and
a sophisticated day/week view which handles arbitrary numbers of overlapping
events.

Major changes compared to the Kronolith H3 (2.1.3) version are:
* Close arbitrary file inclusion in free/busy views.

Hi,

I uploaded an NMU of your package. libgd-gd2-perl and
libgd-gd2-noxpm-perl compile again with the new version of libgd2.

Please see this as help to get the package into a releaseable condition for
etch.

Please find the used diff below.

Cheers,
Andi

Bug#400874: found the case when it blows up...

2006-11-29 Thread Andreas Henriksson
This problem appeared on my Debian Unstable AMD64 today.

file: apt-pkg/deb/debsrcrecords.cc
function: const char **debSrcRecordParser::Binaries()

When:
if (Bins.length() > sizeof(Buffer))

is true, then it blows up

Judging from the comment there seems to be some performance hack there
for when there is a long string

Buf contains this long string when it blows up:

first ensure that the bug is reproducible with debian's stock kernels,
then reassign, read here: http://www.debian.org/Bugs/server-refcard.html

anyway if you need help for the second step, just ask :)

Bug#400930: texlive-omega: should conflict with aleph

2006-11-29 Thread Ralf Stubner
Package: texlive-omega
Version: 2005.dfsg.2-4
Severity: serious

texlive-omega provides a binary named aleph in /usr/bin. The same is
true for the package aleph. The right fix for this would be packaging
AFNIX (#379564), which supersedes the aleph programming language
provided by the aleph package. This would remove this filename conflict.
However, nobody has claimed AFNIX's RFP yet and aleph has been orphaned
some time ago (#374120). Hence texlive-omega should do the same as
tetex-bin does already, ie, conflict with aleph (<< 1:0).

and so on for thousands more calls to match(), with alternating calling
addresses. Where it's actually failed is right at the beginning of the
function, before it's got to any code. Looks like a stack overflow?

Ah, yes, if I use ulimit to make my stack size unlimited it works as
expected. (presumably that's what's different about your system).

I don't think there's a bug here. Using lots of stack space for a
pattern like this is not unreasonable, and dying horribly when you run
out is something you don't get a whole lot of control over.

There is a limit recursion feature of PCRE, which the calling program
could use.

Michael also uses amd64. BTW, if you just keep @b.d.o in the
To-line, I get the bug (well, because I read bugs-rc), and almost every
one else as well.

Cheers,

It looks like you configured gmediaserver to run in /etc/default/gmediaserver,
but for some reason
it fails to do so. Unfortunately, gmediaserver 0.11.0-1 had a bug in the
startup script which makes
action stop return an error in this case. This has been fixed in 0.12.0-1.

To update, please set GMEDIASERVERRUN=no in /etc/default/gmediaserver and then
run the upgrade.

Thanks,
Jochen

Package: lphdisk
Version: 0.9.1-2
Severity: critical
Tags: patch
Justification: causes serious data loss / breaks whole system

The latest few versions of lphdisk completely and utterly break the system. If
run, lphdisk destroys the entire MBR and parition table.

I've tracked this down at least partially to a bunch of broken syscall stuff in
the Debian patches. The following patch makes it work correctly without
corrupting anything by getting rid of the broken syscall stuff completely. I
can't guarnatee that this fixes it for everyone, but without this patch or
another fix, anyone running this program would nuke their entire system.

I can reproduce it with pcregrep; no idea why pcretest might not suffer
from it. It crashes when it gets to 8192 recursive instances of the
match function, possibly due to running out of stack space?

You are looking for a pattern of (.)* I assume?

I was looking for a ^(.)*$ pattern, but I've just double-checked with
(.)* and ^(.)*, none of them crash pcretest. pcregrep (6.7-1) also
doesn't crash with that pattern. There appears to be something different
about my system... where exactly does pcregrep crash? A stack trace
would be nice.

Bug#400914: brickos: Firmware doesn't work. RCX makes strange noise.

2006-11-29 Thread Xavier Douville
Package: brickos
Version: 0.9.0.dfsg-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

When using brickos 0.9.0.dfsg-2 the following command:
firmdl3 /usr/lib/brickos/brickOS.srec
always fails. The firmware is sent to the RCX, but when the transfer
is completed, it makes a continuous strange noise (and the system is
unusable)
I tried a few times with two different RCXs.
The package is unusable without the firmware on the RCX.
This might be related to gcc 4.1 (instead of gcc 2.95)

It seems unlikely to me that this bug would only affect jack. Should this
bug really be reassigned to cdbs and merged with 387103, raising the
severity of that other bug?

This bug affect jack but not only jack. It's ok to me your decision.

Bug#400874: grave?

2006-11-29 Thread Andreas Barth
* Filipus Klutiero ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) [061129 14:37]:

I know of a second person who had the same issues, that is Michael
Ablassmeier. I guess it is connected with the exact content of the
source lists for today.

I put the contents of my /var/lib/apt/lists-directory to
http://alius.turmzimmer.net/~aba/broken-var-lib-apt-lists.tgz - it is
too large to attach it IMHO.

Cheers,

I can reproduce it with pcregrep; no idea why pcretest might not suffer
from it. It crashes when it gets to 8192 recursive instances of the
match function, possibly due to running out of stack space?

You are looking for a pattern of (.)* I assume?

I've noticed that a similar RC bug has already been filed to m17n-lib.

Bug#325528: libm17n-0: segfaults with mgp, rendering it unusuable
  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=325528

The mgp maintainer, if m17n-lib's RC bug fix is hard, you can disable
`--with-m17n-lib' to close mgp's RC bugs #400062 and #400105, and push
it to etch.

Bug#400121: Seems to be stack overflow (too deep recursion)

2006-11-29 Thread Florian Weimer
I could reproduce the issue, using pcretest. GDB shows that this is a
stack overflow due to deep recursion.

The impact of this bug on availability is hard to estimate, even if
code injection should be impossible.

Bug#400899: kronolith2 permits arbitrary file access under user running CGIs or HTTP server

2006-11-29 Thread Lionel Elie Mamane
Package: kronolith2
Severity: critical
Version: 2.0.0
Tags: security

Apparently, there was a way to force kronolith2 versions 2.1.0 up to
2.1.3 (and 2.0.0 up to 2.0.7) to include an arbitrary file in some
page it serves. Solved by new upstream version. CVE number unknown.

Unknown whether kronolith (1.x) in sarge is similarly vulnerable (that
version is not supported upstream anymore).

backed by a SQL database or a Kolab server. Supported features include shared
calendars, remote calendars, meeting management, alarms, recurring events, and
a sophisticated day/week view which handles arbitrary numbers of overlapping
events.

Major changes compared to the Kronolith H3 (2.1.3) version are:
* Close arbitrary file inclusion in free/busy views.

They will need to be rebuilt one more time to make it into etch, yes. :/

Bug#400121: Can't reproduce 400121 with libpcre3

2006-11-29 Thread Tom Parker
I've just been doing the test that Olivier Trichet mentioned with
pcretest, with a file containing 30,000 Z's, and I don't get a crash.
This is with libpcre3 6.7-1 on i386.

Any more details on a good testcase for libpcre3?

Package: icedove
Version: 1.5.0.7-3
Severity: critical
Justification: causes serious data loss

Icedove loses some mails with broken headers. The problem is described in
detail
here:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=360409

I think this should be a RC bug because Icedove is a widely used mail client
and
losing mail is not acceptable.

Package: xulrunner
Version: 1.8.0.7-1
Severity: serious

Hi!

This bug has been filed on multiple packages, and general discussions
are kindly requested to take place on debian-legal or debian-devel in
the thread with Subject: "Non-free IETF RFC/I-Ds in source packages".

It seems this source package contains the following files from the
IETF under non-free license terms:

xulrunner-1.8.0.7/directory/c-sdk/ldap/docs/draft-ietf-ldapext-ldap-c-api-05.txt

xulrunner-1.8.0.7/netwerk/protocol/ftp/doc/rfc959.txt

The license on RFC/I-Ds is not DFSG-free, see:
 * http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=199810
 * http://release.debian.org/removing-non-free-documentation
 * http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

The etch release policy says binary and source packages must each be free:
 * http://release.debian.org/etch_rc_policy.txt

The severity is serious, because this violates the Debian policy:
 * http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-archive.html#s-dfsg

There are (at least) three ways to fix this problem. In order of
preference:

1. Ask the author of the RFC to re-license the RFC under a free
license. A template for this e-mail request can be found at
   http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

2. Remove the non-free material from the source, e.g., by re-packaging
the upstream archive and adding a 'dfsg' version name to it.

3. Move the package to non-free.

I went over many packages looking for names of likely non-free files,
and there may be false positives. If this is the case for your
package, I'm sorry for the noise. I'll modify the scripts to take
into account false positives when I learn of them, and publish the
list of exceptions under "Known exceptions" at
.

Thanks,
Simon

Bug#363324: Kernel 2.6.18-3?

2006-11-29 Thread Rasmus Bøg Hansen
Hi

Shouldn't nvidia-graphics-modules-i386 be built against 2.6.18-3, not
2.6.18-2 as now? The same for nvidia-graphics-modules-amd64?

It seems that the packages would be unable to enter testing due to
dependencies when 2.6.18 enters testing...

Regards
/Rasmus

Bug#400617: It seems FAM was not really wanted

2006-11-29 Thread Christian Perrier
Quoting Santiago Garcia Mantinan ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):

> If FAM was really not intended I think we should disable it on our config
> and upload with high urgency to get a version without FAM to testing ASAP.

A discussion we had yesterday on IRC with Steve, lead to the
conclusion that this bug is really worth being fixed for etch.

Disabling in the provided config file is of course not enough and we
should probably, at least for etch, disable the FAM support.

However, upstream did not provide a clean way to do it in its
configure script so I guees that fixing this is up to people in the
team that have a better knowledge than me on configure scripts.

Steve, Peter, Noèl, Eloy?

manty also, if you come up with a patch..:-)

It seems unlikely to me that this bug would only affect jack. Should this
bug really be reassigned to cdbs and merged with 387103, raising the
severity of that other bug?
