It does not fail for everyone, so grave is not appropriate.

This issue is known by kernel upstream [1], and is at least partly
fixed in 2.6.19-rc4. I've been using the patches of [1] on my Ubuntu
install on this same laptop (just switched it over to debian
yesterday) for weeks, and they fixed the problem for me.

There is no commit in the linus tree. The comments also said something
about acpi-test.

Bug#401275: Remove two sites which force the user to enter a 24 month contract

2006-12-02 Thread Tobias Toedter
Package: bookmarks
Version: 1.4
Severity: serious
Tags: pending

In the bookmarks package, there are two URLs included which point to a site
which forces the user to enter a 24 month contract before letting them view
the site.

At least one of those two sites offers a free account for registration,
which turns automatically into the abonnement.

I consider the listing of those URLs as release critical, as I don't want to
distribute the package with such crap. I've prepared a new version without
the URLs and hope that it will get sponsored soon.

Regards,
Tobias

egroupware has a problem with php5.2

see http://www.nabble.com/php-5.2:-datetime-Konflikt-t2338358s3741.html

The package can not be used in unstable at the moment.
It should be possible to downgrade php5.2 to php5.1

The issue is solved in the development tree.

Bug#401295: gaim: Adjust build-dep libsasl2-2-dev - libsasl2-dev

2006-12-02 Thread Stefan Huehner
Package: gaim
Version: 1:2.0.0+beta5-3
Severity: serious
Justification: no longer builds from source

Hi,
your package build-depends on libsasl2-2-dev which was only briefly in
the archive and has been dropped recently. Please revert your build-dep
to the libsasl2-dev package so that your package stop to FTBFS.

Regards,
Stefan

Bug#400355: mozart-gtk: FTBFS: arch is unknown ?

you confirm whether mozart/mozart-gtk build for you under sparc32?

Yes, they both build fine under sparc32.

Hi,

as seen on packages.debian.org, the ser-jabber-module package is
currently empty on arm.

For some reason, the buildd log isn't visible on buildd.debian.org,
but this is probably the same problem that openser-jabber-module
recently had, #390005. The actual cause is a bug in gcc, #390694.

Bug#321025: greylistd issues

2006-12-02 Thread Josip Rodin
severity 321025 important
thanks

Hi,

greylistd has been equally broken in this regard in the previous releases
too, and the invocation of this buggy script is *optional*, yet now the
whole package is missing from etch because of the severity of this bug.

In fact, the bug #345079 which seems to be fixed by the latest sid version
is not coming into etch because of this.

I'm therefore downgrading this bug so that us sarge users upgrading can at
least get one important fix. When we can get both, we should get both, but
until then, one bug fix and a functional package is much better than zero
bug fixes and an unavailable package.

Release team, please allow the greylistd package back into etch, it's not
really NEW.

According to

http://secunia.com/advisories/22202/

gstreamer0.8-ffmpeg is vulnerable to an ffmpeg buffer overflow and
gstreamer0.8-ffmpeg does not seem to link dynamically against the ffmpeg in
Debian. You should try to link against ffmpeg dynamically if possible.

Please mention the CVE id in the changelog.

I notice you don't get this warning here... maybe it's related:

CaptureThread: WARNING: ALSA: cannot set channel count to one. channels
will be mixed

Could you verify if all your system is updated with latest versions
 of packages?

I've now also built a sid chroot where I installed minimum packages.
When ALSA is not available the standard debian fmit package starts
without problems. Here's the output:

Free Music Instrument Tuner version 0.96.5 built at Aug 27 2006 10:17:13

CaptureThread: INFO:JACK unavailable
CaptureThread: INFO:ALSA unavailable (invalid source 'hw:0')
CaptureThread: INFO: Auto detecting a working transport ... no transport

So not having alsa makes it work (not segfault) as well as
disabling alsa support in fmit.

I also found something interesting. If I reconfigure my system with
alsaconf and chose my SB Live (emu10k1) card, fmit WORKS!

And then there is a endless flood of:

CaptureThread: WARNING: ALSA: Broken pipe

Notice, no warning like the one above that you didn't get eigther!

I only see the problem with fmit when I use my integrated soundcard
(intel8x0). This one can't do hardware channel mixing (play multiple
sounds at once)...

How does your test machines look like? What hardware/drivers do they
have?

Can you be more verbose? I'm not really an TeX expert, but I want the

at least I failed to apply the solutions in the bug reports.

I've fixed the ja_JP LaTeX output in the CVS.
Problem was that dnp was between {} and not [].

I'm confident that this bug (#397571) is solved after new
debiandoc-sgml and debian-reference packages have been released.

Bug#397691: librrd2 memory leak in 1.2.15

If you want, I can privately provide a tar of /var/lib/munin and
  /etc/munin.

At a first glance, it's not a very general bug, because I'm able to do
something like this:

% rrdtool graph --base 1000 -l 0 testgraph.png -w 800 -h 250 -t 'The number of
currently open inodes.' -v 'number of open inodes'
DEF:a=$PWD/one.domain.tld/ds9.one.domain.tld-open_inodes-used-g.rrd:42:AVERAGE
LINE1:a\#00:asdf
897x329
%

Or:

% for i in */*.rrd; do echo $i:; rrdtool graph --base 1000 -l 0 testgraph.png
-w 800 -h 250 -t 'Test desc.' -v 'test desc' DEF:a=$PWD/$i:42:AVERAGE
LINE1:a\#00:asdf; done
[lots of repetitive output]
% echo $?
0

In other words, it didn't hang or crash immediately on something that
simple.

I suppose it will be necessary to recreate the entire Munin setup
(in a chroot perhaps) and run Munin itself over the data set, and
see exactly where and under which conditions it breaks.

Bug#400483: fmit segfault depends on soundcard hardware.

2006-12-02 Thread Andreas Henriksson
Hello!

I've just found that the problem you reported with fmit is not only alsa
related but also depends on your soundcard hardware.
I have both a SB Live (emu10k1) and an onboard soundcard (intel8x0) on
my system and when using emu10k1 fmit does not segfault, while it does
when using intel8x0.

What sound hardware do you have and what driver do you use? (Please
submit output of lsmod and lspci command)

I don't know if it's related but I get a warning about mixed channels
when fmit is about to crash which the maintainer (who can not reproduce
the problem) isn't getting. Could you please submit the console output
that you get when starting fmit ?
(Start fmit from an xterm window)

Please CC [EMAIL PROTECTED] on your reply.

Thanks!

Bug#400483: fmit: crashes at startup

2006-12-02 Thread Ben Hutchings
Ludovic RESLINGER [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
If fmit works when you add --disable-alsa, it is probably
because it is an alsa bug.

Of course! The fact that it selects different capturing code in fmit
couldn't have anything to do with it!

One or more of these obvious errors might be involved:

1. CaptureThread uses volatile bool flags for communication between
threads, but there's no guarantee that a volatile bool is or even can be
updated atomically.
2. CaptureThread::m_packet_size needs to be consistent with
CaptureThread::m_values (I think) but it is written without the lock
held in CaptureThreadImplALSA::capture_loop() and
CaptureThreadImplJACK::jackProcess().
3. CaptureThreadImplALSA::capture_finished() uses delete to free an
array; it must use delete[] instead.
4. CaptureThreadImplALSA::set_params() will continue if it can't set the
format as requested (however the logs posted to this bug report indicate
that this hasn't happened). The format could use 32-bit samples, which
would overflow the buffer in captureLoop().

Someone who cares about this program could try to fix them.

Ben.

CaptureThread: WARNING: ALSA: cannot set channel count to one. channels
 will be mixed

Yes, I think it is related, but this message can hide different problems
related to Alsa.

I've now also built a sid chroot where I installed minimum packages.
When ALSA is not available the standard debian fmit package starts
 without problems. Here's the output:

Free Music Instrument Tuner version 0.96.5 built at Aug 27 2006 10:17:13
 Install directory '/usr'
 CaptureThread: INFO: Built in transports
 CaptureThread: INFO:JACK unavailable
CaptureThread: INFO:ALSA unavailable (invalid source 'hw:0')
CaptureThread: INFO: Auto detecting a working transport ... no transport
 working !

So not having alsa makes it work (not segfault) as well as
 disabling alsa support in fmit.

Ok, it confirms that is a problem with alsa.
You have this output because alsa is not installed.

I also found something interesting. If I reconfigure my system with
alsaconf and chose my SB Live (emu10k1) card, fmit WORKS!

 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ fmit
Free Music Instrument Tuner version 0.96.5 built at Aug 27 2006 10:17:13
 Install directory '/usr'
 CaptureThread: INFO: Built in transports
 CaptureThread: INFO:JACK unavailable
 CaptureThread: INFO:ALSA available

CaptureThread: INFO: Auto detecting a working transport ... using ALSA
CaptureThread: INFO: ALSA: try to set format to Signed 16 bit Little

CaptureThread: INFO: ALSA: try to set sampling rate to 96000 failed
CaptureThread: INFO: ALSA: try to set sampling rate to 48000 success
Try R300_SPAN_DISABLE_LOCKING env var if this hangs.

What you describe me here would explain why I cannot reproduce this
bug, it is probably a specific problem related to sound cards and alsa.
It seems to be an alsa bug with severals sound cards models.

How does your test machines look like? What hardware/drivers do they
 have?

I tested fmit with latest Debian Unstable on theses machines:

- A PC (x86) with Opti Sound Card (16bit with Soundblaster 16
  compatibility):
Chipset: C-Media Electronics Inc CM8738 (rev 10)
- An Apple iBook G3 (PowerPC) with integrated sound card (16 bit).
Chipset: PowerMac Snapper
- An Athlon64 (AMD64) with Sound Blaster Audigy2.
Chipset: Emu10k1

I tried to run fmit on theses machines without alsa, and after,
with alsa.
On all theses machines, fmit works without problems.

378344 is void on the initramfs-tools side.
it's about having an documentation for moving root from
an disc device to an lvm2 volume.
that is definetly not initramfs-tools business.

 Max, ...

When playing with initramfs-tools Motorola Powerstack PReP box, i noticed that
the machine didn't find the root device on reboot. I had chosen a LVM setup,
not sure if this influence the issue.

I had to give the root=/dev/powerstack/root argument by hand on the kernel
command line, which is less than optimal.

great you try to hi-jack a random non related bug.
aboves is pretty wrong and a dup of #378332
you need to pass a real lvm2 device instead of the stupid symlink
and yes d-i gets that right. you need to pass root=/dev/mapper/vg-lv

I booted into the system, and added ROOT=/dev/powerstack/root, but it would be
nice if this was autodetected, as it is done in both yaird and initrd-tools.

Furthermore, it would be nice if the ROOT= option would be documented, and an
empty entry would be present in the default config file, like the other
options. Does ROOT=probe also work in initramfs-tools, like it did for
 initrd-tools ?

no there is no ROOT=probe.
ROOT is documented in mkinitramfs.8

Bug#401263: apt-get segfaults when building dependency tree

2006-12-02 Thread Gordon Farquharson

There is a similar issue with apt-get that occurs during an
installation of Debian on the NSLU2 which is an arm based device.
During the installation process, apt fails, and the following log
messages are written to /var/log/syslog:

Dec 2 00:18:18 base-installer: info: Available initramfs

At this point, the problem looks like an issue with the repository,
but running 'apt-get -f install' manually shows that apt-get segfaults
while building the dependency tree.

Martin Michlmayr has found that after manually installing a deb,
apt-get works again [1].

Below is a backtrace of apt-get before the segfault. I rebuilt apt
with debugging information.

Bug#401180: [Buildd-tools-devel] Bug#401180: schroot: using a symlink for /var/lib/schroot/mount causes /home and /tmp to be erased

On Fri, Dec 01, 2006 at 02:29:29PM +0100, Lucas Nussbaum wrote:
Symlinking system directories that are under the control of packages is
always a risky affair. I'm sorry if this resulted in real data loss for
you, but I don't think it's appropriate to hold schroot responsible at an
RC-level for all the ways that things can go wrong if you put symlinks where
 directories are expected.

I'd also like to apologise for the data loss you suffered. I didn't
intend for schroot to be used in this way, and this is the result of a
design assumption breaking in a nasty way.

I think schroot should really be fixed here, and should be fixed prior
to a stable release. I can imagine lots of people to run into the same
 situation.

The crux of the problem, as I see it, is in schroot-listmounts-main.cc
(main::list_mounts()):

  std::string to_find = sbuild::normalname(this-opts-mountpoint);

  std::FILE *mntdb = std::fopen(mountfile.c_str(), r);
  if (mntdb == 0)
throw error(mountfile, OPEN, strerror(errno));

  mntent *mount;
  while ((mount = getmntent(mntdb)) != 0)
{
  std::string mount_dir(mount-mnt_dir);
  if (to_find == / ||
  (mount_dir.find(to_find) == 0
   (// Names are the same.
mount_dir.size() == to_find.size() ||
// Must have a following /, or not the same directory.
(mount_dir.size()  to_find.size()
 mount_dir[to_find.size()] == '/'
ret.push_back(mount_dir);
}

Here, we are parsing /proc/mounts using the glibc functions to walk
through all the mounted filesystems, and then unmount all the ones we
find which are under /var/lib/schroot/mounts/$session_id. Finally, we
rm -rf the mountpoint.

Due to the potential for dataloss, schroot-listmounts was written to
ensure that the cleanup would fail if any unmounted filesystems were
not unmounted. However, this cannot cope if you introduce symlinks
into the schroot mount directory path, because this is not recorded in
/proc/mounts or /etc/mtab, and it will always appear as if there are
no filesystems mounted.

One possible solution would be to use realpath(3) to canonicalise the
mount path in schroot-listmounts. This should be quite easy to
implement. to_find can simply be canonicalised; it's a two line fix.

However, I'm wondering if it would be better to canonicalise all paths
at all times in the main code, to prevent anything like this
reoccuring.

Regards,
Roger

Bug#361354: mailutils-imap4d: Incorrect FETCH reply if message contains ascii NUL character

2006-12-02 Thread Ben Hutchings
Here's a patch that should fix the problem. The package builds and
passes its test suite with this patch applied. However I don't know how
to use the server and I don't have appropriate test data for this bug,
so the fix still needs to be verified.

Ben.

Bug#401321: hol88: empty package on several architectures

2006-12-02 Thread Niko Tyni
Package: hol88
Version: 2.02.19940316-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

as seen on packages.debian.org [1,2], the hol88 and hol88-library packages
are empty on several architectures: alpha, hppa, ia64, mips and mipsel.
This clearly makes the packages unusable on those architectures, so I'm
reporting this as a grave bug.

For some reason, the alpha, mips and mipsel build logs aren't available
at buildd.debian.org. For hppa [3], the build contains lots of these
errors:

Error: Caught fatal error [memory may be damaged]

while for ia64 [4], the errors are like these:

Error: The stream #input stream debian/gcl_patch.l is already closed.

The build does not fail on these compile errors, resulting in empty
packages instead of failing to build from source.

Hi

This is a known bug in splashy. I downgraded the severity as Splashy
will probably not released with Etch due to other bugs and thus this
bug is not release-critical.

Bug#401337: libxslt1.1: Fail to parse xslt: Unexpected XSLT element 'param'

2006-12-02 Thread Nicolas Haller
Package: libxslt1.1
Version: 1.1.18-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi all,

I use XML DocBook and when I create final document, I use xsltproc to
generate a .fo file.
Today, this command fail with this message:
runtime error: file /home/nicolas/airport/trunk/documents/DocBook.xslt
line 22337 element param
Unexpected XSLT element 'param'.
[repeted 10 times but depending of the xml file]
error: file PPD.xml
xsltRunStylesheet : run failed

DocBook.xslt is the Stylesheet and PPD.xml the xml file I used for this
test.

I don't think the problem is in my files because I can create my document
with the same files on a system with older packages.
I also see this page:
http://mail-index.netbsd.org/netbsd-docs/2006/11/22/0002.html

I'm not sure this page is related with my problem but it's after I have
seen this page I decided to report this bug on libxslt1.1 and not on
xsltproc.

Regards,

Bug#400072: museek+: FTBFS: IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'mucipher.i':

 Hello,

Please find attached a patch to fix the FTBFS.

I removed mucipher.i from the sources list in Mucipher/python/SConscript.
sources is used to make a SharedLibrary, and scons has no way to use it
 for inclusion in a library.
This does not seems to be a source file. And the package builds cleanly
 without.

In the same file, I changed the order of the arguments of file_copy to
 match the Environment.Command documentation.

The change in Tools/SConscript is due to a bug in scons. I will file a bug
against scons, but for the moment, I recommend to use it (otherwise, scons
 compile with -D{'HAVE_VORBIS': 1} instead of -DHAVE_VORBIS=1)
This could be fixed in other ways (e.g. by using a tupple instead of a
 dictionnary: env_libmuscan.Append(CPPDEFINES = (HAVE_VORBIS, 1)), but
this behavior do not seems to be documented.

 Kind Regards,

Thanks for your patch.
In fact your patch fix the FTBFS but there's a new problem.
Python bindings do not works anymore :

Python 2.4.4c0 (#2, Jul 30 2006, 18:20:12)

I'm still wainting the upstream author comes back (he emailed me a few days
ago) but feel free to have a look if you think you can solve this problem.

This is not correct. Gracious write operations to the home directory
are considered a security problem, but file creation in other
directories does not share this problem. Unless software
automatically interprets certain files in the current directory, which
is a very bad thing to do for that reason.

It seems to me that the patch should be changed to prepend the home
directory if the configured path is not absolute (that is, does not
start with a slash).

Then address my comment in the context of the original report.
OP claimed among other things that this is a problem with files
downloaded by lynx.

I can work on it this weekend, so you can expect the upload on monday or

I don't think the problem is in my files because I can create my document

Something that works on old versions and doesn't on newer versions can have
2 different reasons:
- regression bug
- tighter standards

Without a testcase for your bug, it will be hard to decide which applies
here.

Anyways, this doesn't render the package unusable, since most use cases
just work. Downgrading to important until we know if it's a regression
or not.

Bug#379628: [Linux-NTFS-Dev] Bug#379628: CALL FOR HELP: Vista beta compatibility testing

This version makes Vista happy too. After reboot chkdsk is executed and on
second reboot Vista boots successfully.

There is a subtle difference: with Anton's fix the progress indicator
Vista shows during the initial stage of the boot runs much faster than
with this fix; unsure if that is significant though.

Cheers,

P.S. Szakacsits and Anton:
As you both know I've invested a _huge_ amount of time in tracing this
issue and providing the information needed. The first reaction was
basically this can't be our bug and now that it turns out it is, things
run the risk of getting stuck in a kind of turf war between developers.

I do appreciate all the help you both have provided, but I'd also really
appreciate if you'd make the effort to settle your differences and
release a fixed version.
There is still time to get it out into the world before Vista becomes
common and even to get it into Debian Etch, but only if you can settle on
the correct patch quickly.

Bug#392016: Further security patching of ELOG

2006-12-02 Thread Ulf Harnhammar
Hello,

while browsing the ELOG entries at Secunia, I saw that my
security bugs in ELOG were only marked as partially fixed.
After some investigation, I found out that one more patch
was needed to close the XSS bug when handling Categories
(more specifically, when Adding a new Category called
something like scriptalert(1096)/script, that piece
of JavaScript will be executed when other users click on
New, which is bad). I have attached a patch for this too.

I also noticed that two other vulnerabilities in ELOG
were marked as Unpatched. Are these two fixed, Stefan?

  o http://secunia.com/advisories/22057/

Yes, because that firefox is irrelevant. It can't be shipped with etch as Mike
said due to another serious bug (#354622).

I run Etch. Iceweasel is not in Etch. Firefox version
1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.7-2 is, and so therefore any bug in

 is updated.
Yes, you run etch, but do you realize that etch has not been released yet? So
please *help* maintainers to determine the cause of the bug. Maybe it's
flashplugin-nonfree bug and firefox has nothing to do with it? So:

1) remove flashplugin and test
2) if unsuccessful, upgrade to iceweasel and test (without flashplugin)
3) if 2) was successful, install flashplugin from unstable and test (enjoy).

This way you can actually help to improve quality of etch even if the problem
involves flashplugin (non-free software).

Excellent, so then the bug can be closed as soon as

reproducability.

Ah, okay. Upgrading the flash plugin to the
9.0.21.78.3 version fixes it, so the bug should be
transferred to that package.

I tried building libbonobomm1.3 both inside and outside a pbuilder

It might be that this was a bug in one of the dependencies, that has been
fixed since then. Could you please re-try building libbonobomm1.3 in your
environment and see if it goes alright?

Bug#401353: (no subject)

2006-12-02 Thread Adam Cécile (Le_Vert)
audacious-dev can't depends on audacious because it will create a circular
dependency that woud render audacious unusable and audacious-plugins not
buildable.

Moreover audacious-dev is not UNUSUABLE because I use this package to plugin
the plugins...

That's why I downgraded severity and will just make audacious-dev recommands
audacious.

Unless there are any more problems found with the fix I created, I'm
going to try and get this uploaded by Monday the 4th so I can start
working on the soon-to-be-released new upstream version.

Bug#379628: [Linux-NTFS-Dev] Bug#379628: CALL FOR HELP: Vista beta compatibility testing

I cannot agree more with Frans. I think that we ceased to understand
your
technical talk several mails ago, so you are the only people qualified to fix
this issue.

There is still time to get it out into the world before Vista becomes
common and even to get it into Debian Etch, but only if you can settle on
 the correct patch quickly.

I am listening since a week ago, to see if a final patch arises and
then make
a prompt release.

Best regards,

Ender.
