What about reading from $HOME. My package doesn't touch $HOME, but
SBCL (upon starting, tries to read ~/.sbclrc). If that allowed on
autobuilders?

If it is not, I might have a way to work around it.

Bug#400955: base 64 decode problems

Apparently the input string can be terminated by just a single LF. I
presume that in some circumstances, it could be terminated by a single
CR, as well.

The attached patch covers these cases.

Note that the actual base64 decoding works just fine. These errors arise
because sasl_decode64 assumes that the input data is strictly and only
the base64-encoded data, without any line terminators, while client
programs expect line terminators to be silently ignored.

A more "correct" fix would be to have all client programs strip off line
terminators before calling sasl_decode64, but that's just not
practically possible to achieve right now.

Bug#400955: base 64 decode problems

2006-12-05 Thread Michele Baldessari
I took a better look at this, and here's an updated
0015_saslutil_decode64_fix:

if (inlen > 0) {
/* check for trailing CRLF */
if (inlen == 2 && in[0] != '\r' && in[1] != '\n') {
if (saw_equal) {
return SASL_BADPROT;

} else {
return (SASL_CONTINUE);
}
} else if (inlen == 1 && in[0] != '\r' && in[0] != '\n') {
if (saw_equal) {
return SASL_BADPROT;
} else {
return (SASL_CONTINUE);
}
}
   }

The previous version had "inlen != 2" test which doesn't really make
much sense since we are checking the two next characters, so we need to
guarantee their presence. I also added a second check for trailing of
single '\r' and '\n' only, which was why it was barfing on my testcase
with sasl-simple-client.

hth,
Michele

Currently, on arm, these definitions are used:
#undef MACHINE
#define BYTESWAPPED TRUE

However, having MACHINE undefined for arm breaks the compilation of putcold.c
at:
if (scale == 1. && zero == 0. &&
   MACHINE == NATIVE && tcode == TDOUBLE)

To what should I set MACHINE?

it is not that picky much. we just have similar fixes, e.g. from stable
branches or
from security which we usually add faster than other vendors, so after
debian kernel is updated it conflicts with the same fixes in our patch.
or just a context changes which reject the patch.
all these conflicts are usually trivial, but require human attention :/

Do you mean OpenVZ security team?
Sure, 2.6.18-OVZ kernel will be a long supported one with regular updates
(as it looks like at least RHEL5 and Etch are based on it).
We participate in security@ mail ling list, so fix both mainstream
and OpenVZ-specific issues when needed.

Thanks,
Kirill

Correct, I made a typo there.

Good to see that you came to the same conclusion independently! :)

My patch has all the checks in one if clause, so it doesn't duplicate
the check for saw_equal. It also catches the case where inlen is not 1
or 2 after the > 0 check -- it could be 3 after the decoding while loop
(the while condition is inlen > 3) in which case it's either a
protocol / alignment error or a partial base64 block. Perhaps it's also
a little bit easier to understand since all conditions are positive.
Other than these differences, your patch seems to be equivalent.

Yours is prettier, though, but I'm afraid that's secondary. :)

If you see any mistakes in my patch, then please yell! An upload will be
made within a day or two.

Cheers,

Bug#401668: depends on initrd-tools, which will go away

2006-12-05 Thread Andreas Barth
Package: bootcd-mkinitrd
Version: 2.53
Severity: serious

Hi,

initrd-tools will go away prior to release of etch, and bootcd-mkinitrd
is the last package still depending on it. Please change that
dependency.

Cheers,
Andi

Bug#401529: need more info

2006-12-05 Thread Roland Marcus Rutschmann
Hi,

just checked with all available DICOM files available to me. Could you please
send me an example DICOM file that provokes the segfault. Which program did
produce that DICOM file?

I agree that segfaulting is not the right behavior but it still works on all
DICOM formats I came across. (Well, not for spektroskopic DICOM but it steps
out gracefully there). I therefore take down the severity to serious as is it
still usable in some areas.

Regards,

Roland

Package: ttf-dejavu
Version: 2.12-1
Severity: grave
Tags: patch

This version of DejaVu fonts contains condensed fonts with value for
width set to "Medium", but it should really be "Semi-Condensed". New
fontconfig uses this value to select prefered font, and it selects
DejaVu Sans Condensed and DejaVu Serif Condensed as default fonts for
"sans" and "serif". Those fonts contain no instructions, so looks bad on
the screen. Also in some situations it is not possible to select Book
variants at all. See also bugs #401411 and #401443. This bug is fixed in
r1363 in svn repository, patch is also attached to this report.

Note: to see difference after upgrading ttf-dejavu you'll need to
reconfigure fontconfig. But I think it is bug in fontconfig and I
allready reported it (should be in #401411).

AFAICS, libswt3.2-gtk-jni has been *superseded* by libswt-gtk-3.2-jni, and
libswt3.2-gtk-jni was never in testing or stable (and only briefly in
unstable), so this bug doesn't warrant an RC severity.

I guess the workaround would be to manually remove libswt3.2-gtk-jni from
your system.

I'm not sure that it does. The changelog of that version is actually two
items, one of which is about a security issue:

   * Fix local file inclusion bug on systems with two conditions:
register_globals=on AND missing .htaccess for restricting access to
 .inc.php files. (garvinhicking)

This is not a directory traversal. Are you perhaps referring to
something else?

Regarding the issue as mentioned in the changelog: that is an issue in a
unsupported configuration. It would therefore not be release critical.

Thanks, I will see if it will be necessary and desirable to upload this
new release.

I've checked the full diff and this indeed can be turned into a path
traversal; sorry for the confusion earlier. However, it's still a
clearly unsupported configuration, so I'm downgrading to normal.

I'll still upload the new version, but probably not at high urgency,
because we should ofcourse try to prevent people from shooting
themselves in the foot wherever we can.

Thanks for the note.

Bug#401677: mailscanner: MailScanner 4.55.10-1 missing DEPENDS on libsys-hostname-long-perl

2006-12-05 Thread Matthew Exley
Package: mailscanner
Version: 4.55.10-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Mailscanner fails to start since upgrade. Manually running the daemon
gives error message:

Can't locate Sys/Hostname/Long.pm in @INC (@INC contains:
/usr/share/MailScanner /etc/perl /usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.8
/usr/local/share/perl/5.8.8 /usr/lib/perl5 /usr/share/perl5

/usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.0 /usr/local/share/perl/5.8.0 .
/usr/share/MailScanner) at /usr/sbin/MailScanner line 67.

Installing package libsys-hostname-long-perl resolves this error,
therefore please append this package as a DEPENDS to the MailScanner
package.

Thanks,

Package: debian-archive-keyring
Version: 2006.11.22
Severity: serious

debian-archive-keyring does not depent on an apt that comes with
apt-key, so in the course of upgrading from sarge to etch one can
end up with a system that has only two keys in apt's keyring,
the signing keys from 2005 and 2006 which are shipped with apt itself.

In the case where I found this I just did an apt-get dist-upgrade from a
quite minimal system, but the issue can easily triggered manually:

I'm filing this new bug following some discussion (attached) in
debian-devel. I've also seen this behaviour a few time and it's very
annoying. This should be fixed for etch...

The chroot in question doesn't yet have the latest Etch key, but I
don't think that is significant.

Doing a search for bugs, I see #358817, but this doesn't involve NFS
so it looks different.

I experienced the same some time ago and worked it around
by temporarily switching to a different mirror. It then succeeded,
and afterwards I could again switch to my usual mirror.

But, yesterday I had the same issue in my i386 chroot, so the issue
seems to persist

Use --save-after-login and pbuilder login to open the chroot, add the new
apt key, and only then run the update.

I don't know where the bug is, but it is directly related to apt key
management.

Hi,

on my freshly installed etch amd64-system, I get this error now:

The same happens with apt-get source bash. My /etc/apt/sources.list

Any hints for me?

Hi Rene, hi Chris,
we noticed a potentially non-free file in the Debian Openoffice.org package in
sid: Courier-Bold.afm contains the following copyright header:

"All rights reserved" doesn't grant the rights required by the DFSG and I

Hi Rene, hi Chris,
we noticed a potentially non-free file in the Debian Openoffice.org package in
sid: Courier-Bold.afm contains the following copyright header:

|Comment Copyright (c) 1989 1990 Adobe Systems Incorporated. All rights
reserved.

"All rights reserved" doesn't grant the rights required by the DFSG and I
can't find further information in debian/copyright. I suppose copyrights are
thoroughly checked upstream by Sun people, but can you clarify this?

Cheers,

Bug#397700: Intent to NMU

2006-12-05 Thread Margarita Manterola
As Julien suggested, I'm modifying the previous patch and uploading this as
an NMU for tochnog.

The package builds fine inside and outside a pbuilder.

I'm attaching the interdiff output of the NMU that I'm about to upload.

Package: libastro-fits-cfitsio-perl
Version: 1.05-1
Severity: serious
Justification: fails to build from source

The libastro-fits-cfitsio-perl package version 1.05-1 fails
to build from source on the mipsel [1] and arm [2] architectures
because some of the tests fail:

Byteswapping is not being done correctly on this system.
Check the MACHINE and BYTESWAPPED definitions in fitsio2.h
Please report this problem to the author at
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]

make[1]: *** [test_dynamic] Error 255
make[1]: Leaving directory `/build/buildd/libastro-fits-cfitsio-perl-1.05'
make: *** [build-stamp] Error 2

This issue has already been reported as #339758 [3] against the cfitsio
package. It was reportedly fixed in cfitsio3 3.006-1, but unfortunately
the fix doesn't seem to work, as libastro-fits-cfitsio-perl is currently
using cfitsio3 and still gets the same error.

I'm Ccing the cfitsio library author, Dr. William Pence
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, as the error message suggests.

Unfortunately I don't have access to an arm or mipsel box myself, so
I can't suggest a fix. I hope somebody else can. The current cfitsio3
version in Debian is 3.006, but the code in fitsio2.h looks the same in
the latest version, 3.02.

I'm also Ccing the #339758 submitter, Rafael Laboissiere
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, who provided the patch for this earlier.

If the byteswapping problem makes cfitsio unusable on mipsel and arm,
which seems probable given that a function called fits_create_file()
is apparently affected, then I suppose #339758 should be considered
release-critical against both cfitsio and cfitsio3. I'll leave that
for the cfitsio Debian maintainer, Gopal Narayanan, and the release
team to judge.

Finally, I note that the libastro-fits-cfitsio-perl tests have failed
on mipsel and arm all the time, including the current version in stable
(1.03-1). The errors were just ignored earlier.

This was #397619, fixed in cfitsio3 3.006-1.3. The
libastro-fits-cfitsio-perl package is now built succesfully on all the
supported architectures.

I'm marking this bug as done without any versioning as the real problem
was in another package.

Package: debiandoc-sgml
Version: 1.1.94+1.1.95bpo1
Severity: serious

This has already been reported as #397571 (but this bug also has a
second aspect that has no relationship to debiandoc-sgml, therefore not
reassigning) and against debian-zh-faq (I think, no bugnumber yet, and
I've touched lots of packages), and now it shows up in exactly the same
way in maint-guide. debiandoc2latexpdf or debiandoc2latexps create
LaTeX code that does not "compile" with latex. For maint-guide, the
error message is:

This is pdfeTeX, Version 3.141592-1.21a-2.2 (Web2C 7.5.4)
entering extended mode
(./maint-guide.ja.tex

[...]

In the other packages it happened with zh-tw (taiwanese chinese,
methinks?)

Danai who's in Debbugs-Cc has some knowledge of the problems. For
reference, I attach here what he wrote in the bug mentioned above:

Nope, reference.zh-tw.tex-in doesn't use UTF-8, it's written in Big5.
reference.zh-tw.tex itself is made with "bg5conv", and converts all
double-byte glyphs into TeX-readable strings; you can't read the
output with a human-readable encoding.

This step isn't necessary (anymore): just move reference.zh-tw.tex-in
to reference.zh-tw.tex and process it with "latex" as you would with
any other document.

And use "bkai" instead of "kai"; "kai" is reserved for ugly HBF bitmap
fonts, and I haven't packaged them yet (I find them of little use,
except perhaps the CNS fonts).

The author or the SGML processor seem(s) to use \textasciicircum et
alii commands a lot; in my DVI it shows as plain "textasciicircum".
The reason that it shows the plain name instead of actually showing
the intended sign is because of the encoding.
When viewing in the C locale, textbackslash{} is shown as
\textbackslash{}. However, if you look at the file in Big5, you will
see that the backslash is actually part of the prior character.
You might need to put an "extra" backslash before commands such as
\textbackslash or \textasciicircum.

I played with search-and-replace a bit, and I think that it looks now
the way it should. You'll find a copy of it in attachment.
Just run it with "latex" a few times. That should be enough.

You can also use the UTF-8 encoding along with the CJKutf8 package.
That might be a bit more straightforward if you use a preprocessor.

I must say that the DebianDoc SGML DTD produces pretty ugly (Chinese)
TeX output. Any change of making enhancements? E.g. when switching
from Chinese to Western script, it is recommended that you use a tilde
(~) to add some extra space; CJK provides a command called \CJKtilde
to automatically make every tilde a CJKtilde. Normal tildes (like in
an URI addres to a homepage) you can use \standardtilde.

Downgrading the severity of this bug, because the X error doesn't
appear on my latest sid environment. Though I don't know the
details of the X error...

With the latest m17n-lib packages versoin 1.3.1-1.1, even if
libm17n-dev is removed, `mgp sample.mgp' doesn't abort on my sid

It may indeed still not be an m-g-t bug, but at least it doesn't appear to
be a gdm bug.

I, too, doubt that it's a multi-gnome-terminal bug. I just can't figure
out why when I type 'env' in the gnome-terminal window, I have several
more variables set than when I type 'env' in the multi-gnome-terminal
window.

My guess is that it has something to do with m-g-t being a gnome1 app,
although I don't see how that'd make a difference.

This has already been reported as #397571 (but this bug also has a
second aspect that has no relationship to debiandoc-sgml, therefore not
reassigning) and against debian-zh-faq (I think, no bugnumber yet, and
I've touched lots of packages), and now it shows up in exactly the same
way in maint-guide. debiandoc2latexpdf or debiandoc2latexps create
LaTeX code that does not "compile" with latex. For maint-guide, the
error message is:

This is pdfeTeX, Version 3.141592-1.21a-2.2 (Web2C 7.5.4)

Regards, Frank

Dear all,

Here is a debdiff which turns the patch from Aurelien into a NMU. I
tested the patch in a ppc64 chroot and it seems to work well. Just in
case it is useful, I also uploaded the NMUed package on Mentors. I hope
that it can make easier to anybody to fix the bug. Not being a DD I can
not proceed any further.

I don't see how this relates to my analysis. I upgraded fontconfig,
and the fonts were ugly. I removed DejaVu Condensed, and the fonts
were nice again, and the result of fc-match changed as well; certainly
you can explain what part of the analysis is incorrect.

Beside, I've configured the fonts of my web browser to be serif for
serif and sans-serif for sans-serif, and this maps one to one with
Dejavu Sans and Devavu Sans Serif, certainly not to Nimbus.

Package: mozilla-calendar
Version: 2:1.7.5-1
Severity: important

mozilla segfaults as soon as you select Window->Calendar (or hit CTRL-8)
on an AMD64 system when using a remote calendar. Accessing the same
calendar using the i386 package will not result in a segfault. (I'm
testing using a dchroot for my i386 environment with the same home
directory and profile, etc.)

Based on strace output, the segfault occurs immediately after the local
copy of the ICS file is read. I.e. the ICS file is successfully
fetched from the remote site into a local file, and then that file
opened and read one character at a time.

From what I can see, the code has changed a lot and what looks like the
incriminated code is now in calendar/libical/src/libical/icaltimezone.c,
where it now reads:

builtin_timezones = icalarray_new (sizeof (icaltimezone), 32);

which is a safe-enough way to deal with the problem.

I'm thus closing this bug.

I've done some testing. SBCL does indeed fail for that. The

GulfTech has disclosed a security bug in Mozilla-based browsers:

Malicious web sites can crash the browser. This appears to be a memory
corruption problem, so perhaps arbitrary code execution is possible.

As far as I know, this is fixed in the 1.8 branch, from which iceweasel,
icedove and iceape, which now provides mozilla-browser, are based upon.

I'm also unable to produce the crash with the testcase.

I'm thus closing this bug.

Bug#401263: apt-get busted -- again!

2006-12-05 Thread Jan Evert van Grootheest

I am getting upset now

Apt-get is again segfaulting!

Yesterday I removed the *.bin files from /var/cache/apt. Then ran
apt-get update, apt-get -V upgrade and apt-get clean.

Now I do apt-get update and it segfaults again!!!

An exploit for CVE-2005-1790, a bug originally classified as IE-only,
causes Mozilla-based browsers to crash. See the proof of concept
exploit (for IE) at:

The CVE name is provisional, maybe another one will be assigned.

As far as I can see, this doesn't do anything on mozilla 1.8 branch based
software such as iceweasel or iceape, which provides mozilla-browser,
now.

Please reopen if you think iceape is still affected, as well as evidence
about it ;)

Since your bug was fixed by taking version 2:1.7.8-1sarge7.2.2 from
alex's archive, and since that version (and newer ones) have been
uploaded meanwhile, let's mark this bug fixed on appropriate version

Hi again

it is reproducable here now. Apparently no program I know of can handle that
file (which doesn't excuse the segfault). I'll pass it upstream.

the header doesn't seem to be standard conform. Maybe the format uses
compressed jpeg which medcon cannot handle anyway IIRC .

hi

after a recent upgrade, every attempt at using mozilla-calendar has
resulted (sooner or later) in a segfault. I will skip details of
all attempts I did in latest 2 days, and simply jump to the simplest
conclusion.

How to reproduce in the most reproducible way possible (AFAIK):

1) close mozilla and firefox (and check that they are closed with 'ps x')
2) $ mv .mozilla .mozilla-save-me
3) check that there are no .netscape dirs around, in case, move them away
 as before
4) $ mozilla-suite -calendar
5) select "new event" ; fill it in any way, hit enter
6) segmentation fault

I attach also a version of mozilla-suite that wraps
all calls to the binary with gdb (it may be useful
also for bug 293962) ; but gdb was not able
to provide a sensible backtrace (all I could get out of it
 was "NSGetModule" )

a.

ps:
of course you may want to also do
7) $ mv .mozilla .mozilla-empty-for-test
8) $ mv .mozilla-save-me .mozilla
before you use mozilla/firefox for real again :-)

Assuming this bug is the same as #293962, and that it has, as far as I
know, been fixed by mozilla being replaced by seamonkey renamed as
iceape, I'll close this bug.

Feel free to reopen if you see the same crash occur with
iceape-calendar.

Bug#401263: Possible solution

2006-12-05 Thread Gordon Farquharson

Jan

It has been suggested that this *may* be a networking problem [1, 2,
3]. This is a wild suggestion that could be totally wrong, but I think
that it is worth a shot.

Delete the *.bin files and have apt recreate them as before, and then
set the TCP window scaling to 0 with

echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_window_scaling

and try apt-get again.

I haven't had a chance to try this with the Debian Installer on the
NSLU2 yet, but I will this evening (UTC-7).

iceape, which replaces mozilla does build fine on hppa, thus closing

Aeskulap works with these files just fine. This one is probably the most
recently updated code.

The other program with which I have played is a KDE Kradview. I modified it to
not choke on unknown codes. Problem with unkown codes is the size number
since this may be absurd. The final code before I could no longer process had
a size of over 2 billion (in other words 0x).

Yesterday I removed the *.bin files from /var/cache/apt. Then ran
apt-get update, apt-get -V upgrade and apt-get clean.
Now I do apt-get update and it segfaults again!!!

A new apt was uploaded today Could you please upgrade your apt to the
latest version in unstable (0.6.46.3-0.1) ?

It's quite possible that it still happens, since the fix was aimed at
amd64, and you are experiencing this in i386, but please do check.

Thanks.

How big is the curRowBuf anyway?

./libs/ljpg/huffd.c -- DecodeImage():
curRowBuf   = mcuROW1;

./libs/ljpg/jpegutil.c:
static char mcuROW1Memory[1024 * sizeof(MCU)];

./libs/ljpg/mcu.h:
typedef unsigned short ComponentType; /* the type of image components */
typedef ComponentType *MCU; /* MCU - array of samples */

test.c tell me that sizeof(unsigned short) is 2, so curRowBuf is 2048.

Should the row be dynamic length instead of "1024 * sizeof(MCU)" ?
Should col never reach that high value?

Bug#401529: patch to avoid segfault in medcon, no idea if we now produce incorrect results.

2006-12-05 Thread Andreas Henriksson
I have absolutely no idea what these changes means, but it was quite
trivial to avoid segfaulting.
This might mean that we now produce incorrect results or some other
really misleading and stupid problem.
Anyway this avoids the segfault for the given testcase.

Patch attached.

Ok, the previous patch is totally wrong... sizeof(*curRowBuf) is not the
correct value to check the allocated number of columns, it's way to
small..

Bug#401757: horde3 configuration generated automatically is missing some fundamental parameters

2006-12-05 Thread Massimo Manghi
Package: horde3
Version: 3.1.3-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I installed horde3 on etch using a clean system that had no previous
horde/imp installation. After having carried out every single step
in the installation checklist, changed the authorization bits and so on,
I was able to access the configuration page and chose some requested
options. As i generated the configuration horde3 was ipso-facto hosed
since some fundamental parameters are actually missing in the conf files.
At first scripts are stuck with the charset parameter not being
specified in the conf global structure.
Hacking the conf structure with an editor overcomes that problem but
scripts then fail inexorably with the following error

DB Error: not found

[line 393 of /usr/share/horde3/lib/Horde/Prefs/sql.php]
...
Unable to include the DB/.php file for 'Array'"

I suggest to provide a reasonable default for each and every
one parameter that might be otherwise left out of the conf files,
given the complexity and size of the configuration.

For some steps the documentation provided in README.Debian
is inaccurate (admittedly the package is not simple either):
eg the README suggests to create separately the
session table, whereas it is created by default by the script
that created the basic horde3 database (mysql), no file location for
the 'php_flag session.auto_start Off' setting is provided
(I found one in /etc/php4/apache/php.ini with a slighly different
syntax. Is that the one?). The README makes reference to a link
(``Configuration``) in the Administration menu that doesn't exist
(maybe this is the real problem?)

thank you for your efforts and sorry for my inability
to stay concise.

I've compiled varmon again with -ggdb from vanilla source. Here is the

Strange enough, it runs like a charm when compiled with -O2 ?!?

This builds for me in pbuilder unstable i386.

This is also wrong... sizeof(MCU) == sizeof(unsigned short*) == 8, so
curRowBuf is 8192.

Right, the current DejaVu font package has a broken version of condensed
which does not correctly report the setwidth value in the OS/2 header of
the file. I think this will cause the incorrect font selection error
that we've seen in this case.

Testing this should be fairly straightforward for anyone so inclined;
the font can be fixed with fontforge.

Bug#401757: [pkg-horde] Bug#401757: horde3 configuration generated automatically is missing some fundamental parameters

What is missing, and what configuration file are you referring to?

That is simply not possible as we do not know what database or
other thing you want to configure it against.

In horde2 automation was available but the problem with that was that
it was so incredibly hard to get it working and now there is a
configuration wizard available that help you some.

I agree that the package is not simple.

Hmm that may be incorrect. I have not checked recently.

That is because it depends on php version.

What link are you referring to?

And if you are referring to the Configuration wizard page, then yes
you are referring to your real problem!

 Indeed, and it's even fixed in ttf-dejavu 2.12-2 (incoming.debian.org).

(However, one need to dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig for the fonts to be
 fixed.)

I'm not closing the bug as it was reported with other fonts as well (at
 least Bitstream Vera).
