Bug#405264: z88dk_1.6.ds1-3 (s390/unstable): FTBFS: wrongly identifies s390 as 64bit

2007-01-01 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: z88dk
Version: 1.6.ds1-3
Severity: serious

The latest version of this package incorrectly identifies s390 as a 64-bit
architecture:

[...]
rm -f debian/build-stamp debian/build-arch-stamp debian/build-indep-stamp
case "$DEB_BUILD_ARCH" in
   s390|alpha|amd64|ia64|ppc64)
echo "64bit architecture not supported by upstream."
exit 1
;;
esac
64bit architecture not supported by upstream.
[...]

s390 is not a 64-bit architecture. This is a gratuitous regression in
architecture support; that makes this a release critical bug, because
packages must be supported on as many architectures as is reasonably
possible.

The changelog also claims

  * Added missing arm architecture

But in fact arm is missing from the architecture list in debian/control, so
z88dk FTBFS on this architecture as well:

[...]
yada patch "debian/patches/*.diff"
touch debian/build-stamp
 /usr/bin/fakeroot debian/rules binary-arch
make: Nothing to be done for `binary-arch'.
[...]

Bug#404876: Quick G3 Wiggly Gnome Fix

2007-01-01 Thread Rick Thomas

On Dec 31, 2006, at 12:37 PM, b9 wrote:

I've created a quick hack fix for the Wiggly Gnome Bug. This is not a

bug is properly squashed.

You can compile your own libgstreamer or download the one that I
posted:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=404876#msg98

--Ben

I've got two machines, sitting side by side. One is the Beige G3
PowerMac that started all this. The other is a G4 Powermac. They
are both running up-to-date Debian etch. Both are configured for the
GNOME desktop manager.

I did the series of magical passes described in the message b9
pointed to on each of them. The wigglys on the G3 are now gone.
Hurrah!

I've done enough messing around on the G3 that I don't trust the
config files to be meaningful, so I'm not going to send them yet.

I'll do a complete re-install from scratch on the G3 then do b9's
magic again. I'll send the config files from that one.

Enjoy!

Bug#404733: dpkg error upgrading iceweasel

Which version of totem-mozilla was installed at the time this upgrade
was attempted? Was /usr/lib/firefox a directory or a symbolic link?

I've now found the following comment in processarc.c:

   * For each file, we check to see if it already exists.
   * There are several possibilities:
   * + We are trying to install a non-directory ...
[...]
   * - It is a directory. In this case it depends on whether we're
*trying to install a symlink or something else.
[...]
   * = If we are trying to install a symlink we do nothing - ie,
   * dpkg will never replace a directory tree with a symlink. This
   * is to avoid embarrassing effects such as replacing a directory
   * tree with a link to a link to the original directory tree.

I can't follow the logic of the following code, so I'll have to take
this on trust. However, if someone who's worked on dpkg could confirm
that symbolic links whose paths match existing directories are
intentionally ignored, that would be very much appreciated. (Does it
make any difference whether the symbolic link was in the previously
installed package?) The comment is present in sarge and the current
version, so it looks like we can rely on this working during an upgrade
from sarge.

The error message in the bug report is a translation of "trying to
overwrite `%.250s', which is also in package %.250s" which appears to
indicate that totem-mozilla installed something other than a directory
(perhaps another symbolic link?) at /usr/lib/firefox. Is this the only
possible reason for that message?

The problem was reported as appearing during an attempt to upgrade to
version 2.0.0.1+dfsg-1, so it cannot be very well fixed by this version!
However, I'm beginning to suspect that the totem-mozilla package may
actually have been at fault, not iceweasel.

Bug#405240: /lib/splashy not removed upon package deinstallation

2007-01-01 Thread Michael Biebl
Package: splashy
Severity: serious

While removing/purging splashy, dpkg complains that it can't remove
/lib/splashy because it still contains files, which are:

pluto:~# ll /lib/splashy
total 12
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 690 Jan 2 03:15 0-progress
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 887 Jan 2 03:15 2-progress
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 690 Jan 2 03:15 6-progress
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  23 Jan  2 03:15 S-progress ->
/lib/splashy/2-progress

You should add a preinst script, which cleans the directory, so dpkg can
remove the directory safely. Otherwise the files will be left rotting on
the hard disk.

I'm filing with severity serious, because imho it is a policy violation,
if a package is not correctly cleaned from the system after
deinstallation/purging.

Cheers and happy new year,
Michael

This is where it goes off the rails. All the valgrind chatter after
this point is secondary damage - uninteresting. Unfortunately, you
used binaries with no debugging symbols so the backtrace is less than
useful. Is there any way you can build a local binary with debug
symbols - from the debian source package, if you can't get a checkout
of monotone HEAD - repeat the test and send us a more useful
backtrace?

thanks,
zw

Bug#403405: 2.6.19 seems to fix it

2007-01-01 Thread Marco Amadori
This seems to be fixed "upstream", along with other issues regarding ieee1394
on linux 2.6.19, according to [0]:

-
kernel 2.6.19 release notes
From: Stefan Richter:
 Date: 2006-12-03 3:00 am
eth1394: memory alignment problem fixed
ieee1394: recursive locking fixed
ohci1394: initializes before most other device drivers to aid kernel debugging
with firescope
raw1394: kernel freeze in address range mapping functions fixed
-

Since I also experimented a kernel panic because of this bug, I think that the
proper severity should be re raised, since it surely "breaks the system up".

Could this code merged on 2.6.18 or the whole 2.6.19 shall be let entering
unstable and then etch ?
(And since bug# are still high, maybe the shortcoming 2.6.20 could be
considered for future inclusion in unstable too... joking!)

Bug#397074: [Patch] add start daemon option to stun init.d script

2007-01-01 Thread Alex Owen

On 01/01/07, Alex Owen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

I have tested this patch and the package builds and installs and
purges correctly with the patch applied... further more the daemon is
not started by default.

This is the extent of my testing, someone who uses this should test
that uncommenting the line in /etc/default/stun allows the daemon to
start.

the attached patch uses the file "Release" first and (if it fails) falls

And that seems to be due to a new upstream version of libxml-sax-perl in
unstable, whose handling of non-ascii utf8 characters is apparently buggy.

I don't see any reason why this fix should have ever been uploaded to
experimental instead of unstable in the first place. Please upload it (the
fix, not the new upstream version) to unstable where it will do us some
good.

Bug#405206: FTBFS - gnome-terminal needs build-dep on gnome-doc-utils

2007-01-01 Thread Carsten Luedtke
Package: gnome-terminal

While building gnome-terminal from source in a pbuilder chroot i get this error:

checking for GDU_MODULE_VERSION_CHECK... configure: error: Package requirements
(gnome-doc-utils >= 0.3.2) were not met:

No package 'gnome-doc-utils' found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables
GDU_MODULE_VERSION_CHECK_CFLAGS
and GDU_MODULE_VERSION_CHECK_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

make: *** [config.status] Error 1

 -> Aborting with an error
 -> unmounting dev/pts filesystem
 -> unmounting proc filesystem
 -> cleaning the build env
-> removing directory /var/cache/pbuilder/build//12313 and its
subdirectories

A build-dep on gnome-doc-utils fixes this.

libgd2 crashes on some corrupt GIFs [1] . This issue was found in PHP (php bug
#38112 [2]). With php4 + php4-gd the segfault can be triggered by executing the
PoC at [3]. The attached patch has been adapted from the bug report and seems to
fix the problem.

Severity grave because this might lead to arbitrary code execution in php
(although I haven't tried to analyze the problem further).

 402956
 403778
 403904
all got a follow-up that don't need the full logs.

Proposal:

Split "install report" into "install report" and "e-mail install logs"

"install report" E-mails a minimum of info to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

"e-mail install logs" is a script that takes the BR nummer as parameter.
It E-mails the various logs to the bugreport.

(Only) When the BR needs additional info, we ask the submitter
to invoke the "e-mail install logs" script.

Sorry, but I can't revert that state any more... It is working and
the bug is not reproducible (gnome-settings-daemon doesn't restart as
well, i.e. everything is fine).

I don't have a clue, really :/

Hi,

The past week I've had four sarge boxes apache processes lockup.
apachectl restart works without error, but the webservice is still not
responding. Other methods (killall -9 + invoke-rc.d restart, etc.) are
tried but still, no webservice and nothing in error.log to indicate a
problem.

Attaching a strace to the apache process, I see that it is in a loop
complaining that /var/cache/apache/__db.ssl_cache.db already exists.
Removing this file and restarting fixes the problem.

Also I notice in these situations that there are hundreds of ssl.mutex*
files in /var/log/apache.

Possible DoS attack in the wild? I wouldn't think so but it's been the same
thing on four different servers in a week... I'm going to post to some lug
mailing lists later today to see if anyone else is seeing this.

Best

Mark

The OpenSSL issues we fixed in 2006 produced correct error paths when
an exploit was attempted, so it shouldn't crash for the known issues.
But it might very well be some kind of brute-forcing for real-world
fuzzing.

Bug#405178: Even with udev installed...

2007-01-01 Thread Julien Valroff
Hi,

Even with udev installed, the directory used by kqemu-modules does not
exist:
ln: creating symbolic link `/etc/udev/udev.d/099_kqemu.rules': No such file or
directory
udev is up-to-date (0.103-1).

I think the link is meant to go to /etc/udev/rules.d/

Moreover, the postinst script detects if udev is installed checking if
the directory /etc/udev exists, but this directory is part of several
packages, on my sytsem:
$ dpkg -S /etc/udev
libsane, hal, hdparm, alsa-utils, libgphoto2-2, udev: /etc/udev

IMHO it is not unnecessary to install udev rules if udev is not
installed.

Cheers,
Julien

Hmm. The only thing is that I never saw an actual call for testing.
I would have expected something on d-d-a. That would have given others a
chance to actually do targeted testing...

Probably just a misunderstanding.

I'm fairly swamped myself ATM, so I'll leave it to you and the RMs to
decide if you want to upload to unstable now or not.

Cheers,

Bug#405178: kqemu-source: Looking for udev config directories, no dependency and does not need it

2007-01-01 Thread David Baron
Package: kqemu-source
Version: 1.3.0~pre9-4
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Attempted to install the latest and greatest kqemu using m-a. This failed
trying to write to a /etc/udev.d subdirectory. I am not using udev so obviously
do not have this.

There is no dependency on udev in kqemu-source nor does kqemu really need
udev to run. It has always been sufficient to copy the kqemu.ko to the
appropriate place in /lib/modules

Hello, Andi.

As far as I can tell, Frans wanted to upload this fix first to
experimental,
give it a wider testing, and then put it into unstable. So I am really
waiting for the green light. :-) Should I proceed?

Best regards, and happy new year,

nautilus-python fails to build because it build-depends on
libnautilus2-dev, which is not available:

Making it build-depend on libnautilus-extension-dev instead fixes this
problem.
