Matthias,

Do you think that the updated readme posted by the polish oofice NLC leader at
http://pl.openoffice.org/pliki/README_hyph_pl_PL.txt has a satisfactory
explanation of the copyright status of the polish hyphenation patterns file?

Regards,

Alex.

Package: wormux
Version: 0.7.9-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi!

Wormux is failing to load since it searches for a font file that isn't
available:

==
(...)
[ Run game ]
Error: Font /usr/share/games/wormux/font/DejaVuSans.ttf can't be found!
! Error in graphic/font.cpp:83: Error during initialisation of a font!

tool/error.cpp:84: Missed assertion "false".

C++ exception caught:
Error during initialisation of a font!

Aborted
==

It seems that it's searching on the wrong place.
Grave severity as the game doesn't load while not finding the font.

Best regards,
Nelson

Hi,

openbsd-inetd doesn't run when there are no services defined in
inetd.conf. This means that when installing a package that relies on
inetd that service is not available after setting up the package.

For instance:

Andreas Barth agrees that this behaviour is release critical and should
be fixed before etch releases. Either by openbsd-inetd, or maybe
update-inetd?

Bug#379628: #379628: ntfsresize: resizing a Vista NTFS partition leads to corrupted partition

2007-02-09 Thread Kenshi Muto
reopen 379628
found 1.13.1-6
thanks

I'm sorry to reopen this bug, but this problem happened again
on my d-i test environment.

[Test environment]
- Windows Vista Ultimate (MSDN) on VMware i386 (1024MB memory)
  18GB sda (SCSI LSI53C1030 emulation)
and filled by Vista as /dev/sda1
- netinst.iso Debian GNU/Linux testing "Etch" - Official Snapshot i386 NETINST
Binary-1 20070209-21:47
  includes ntfsprogs-udeb_1.13.1-6_i386.udeb
- Removed "exit 1" from partman resize.sh to skip Vista-check.
- Booted installer and tried resizing sda1 from 18GB to 10GB on partman menu.

[Result]
It made corrutpted NTFS filesystem. I can't boot/mount/read Windows no
more. Rebooting doesn't help it.

Package: amarok
Version: 1.4.5-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

just installed amarok package from experimental and found that it
doesn't also install the -xine package. This renders amarok
unsusable for everybody as amarok-xine is the only supported engine.
Unfortunately the 1.4.4 engine doesn't work with amarok 1.4.5, not sure
why.

Please either conflict with amarok-engines < 1.4.5 or add a versioned
dependecy to amarok.

Andreas

gstreamer0.8 != gstreamer0.8-ffmpeg

Problems with ffmpeg do not justify removing gstreamer0.8.
Nevertheless, I don't see a strong reason to keep it.

Despite having a team in the maintainer field and being RC this bug log
shows no visible reaction since a month. If it's unmaintained we shouldn't
include it in Etch.

Bug#410352: gstreamer0.8: Should not be released with Etch

2007-02-09 Thread Moritz Muehlenhoff
Package: gstreamer0.8
Severity: serious

gstreamer-0.8 embeds a full copy of the ffmpeg, which frequently
has vulnerabilities. For mplayer and gstreamer0.10 exceptions
were more or less justified, but for gstreamer0.8 this isn't
the case. It has only three rev-deps: teatime and and muine have
already easily been fixed in sid/experimental. goobox appears dead
upstream (According to http://www.gnomefiles.org/app.php?soft_id=531
the last release is from Nov 2005), has hardly any users in popcon
and we have plenty of media players in Debian. So unless it's fixed
to use gstreamer 0.10 it'll need to be removed from Etch along with
gstreamer 0.8.

Cheers,
Moritz

Bug#405461: A simple one-line patch that will fix the problem.

2007-02-09 Thread Lukasz Grochal
If I understand this correctly, that has to do with jabberd being
recompiled against a newer version of OpenSSL library.

If we're talking about the same bug, then jabberd -D (debug) should
print out something like:

Fri Feb 9 23:12:59 2007 mio_ssl.c:93 Could not create SSL Context:

According to , this happens because jabberd fails to call
SSL_library_init();

Indeed, applying this patch:

Please don't use the etch-ignore tag without discussion with the release
team. The right tag here is really the "sid" tag, to indicate that the bug
is specific to unstable for reasons external to the package itself.

That's not really necessary in this case, because as someone else mentioned,
there are other bugs open about this version being broken (c.f. 396132).

Running the app simply gives you an error saying that this version is too
old to use with the network.

The justification is simply the definition of package removal, I'm afraid.

Yes, if these alternatives were slave links, they should have been removed
with the master.

But note that the alternative removal Tim has suggested above is for a
different alternative name than the one actually used by the current slave
alternative; e.g., "preline.1.gz" vs. "preline.1". Tim, what was the first
version of courier-mta you had installed before trying to remove it? It's
possible an older version didn't do the slave links right, in which case
this is a lower-severity bug (cleaning up after breakage in an obsolete
version of the package).

I think there have also been bugs in update-alternatives' own handling of
slave links at some point in the past. :/ That would likewise not be an RC
problem for courier-mta.

gtk-gnutella

It is normal for programs to be owned by root. Ownership alone doesn't
prevent you from executing the program, permissions are also involved.
On Debian systems, the default for a program is to be ownership
root:root, and permissions 0755. This allows anyone to run the program,
but only root to modify it.

Bug#408573: ooconfig not in testing

2007-02-09 Thread Matthew Johnson

Comparing the testing to the stable version of this package there
appears to be a regression---/usr/lib/oo2c/ooconfig isn't shipped in the
testing version, but it is still referenced by the oo2c-config script.

Since ooconfig nolonger appears in the upstream source it could be that
this is now not neccessary, in which case oo2c-config should be removed
and the packages which depend upon it should be altered not to call it.

Alternatively, ooconfig is still neccessary (or something similar) and
it needs to be replaced or oo2c-config altered to do something similar.

I don't know enough about the package to know which is correct.

Re: Bug#410248: tk-gnutella-0.96.1svn12109-1: Will not start as user, , ,
executable is set as root, root ... security thoughts say this is wrong.

 To: Steve Langasek <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Hope you don't mind an email reply.

Sorry for the mis-report.
Thought it might be the case , hence I didn't change the permissions. However
I previously ran it as a non-root user.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get  the text to attach via reportbug. It seems it
also placed it in the tmp directory and due to a restart is lost.
I shall try to recap just incase it is a bug.

Since updating I can no longer use gtk-gnutella.
When attempting to run it via KDE desktop I do not even get the normal mouse
or taskbar notifications.
In my opinion this normally means a file cannot be found.

The KDE Menu Item states gtk-gnutella as the command. It is not in bin or sbin
( didnt expect it here but just following Path variables) but is
in /usr/bin .

Since I have run it previously as a non-root user and found the permisssions
of /usr/bin/gtk-gnutella set as root, root , I considered this both odd and a
possible security weakness.
Hence my bug report.

So I guess the question is ' how was I able to run it as a non-root user
before?'.

I will of course confirm clearance of this bug or it's reclassification as you
see fit, but would also appreciate your comment on the running as non-root
dilema.

I have not included a full system dump but I am running .

Additional Info

the executable does not run as root.

As per Grahams post my ls -l gives
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 2666760 2006-10-16 00:24 gtk-gnutella

If this is correct then this may be another KDE bug?

Best wishes...Paul

Hello,

currently, splashy creates directories and places file under /share.
Since it is the sole package doing so on my system, it's certainly not expected.

Bye,
Olivier

Package: splashy
Severity: serious

While removing/purging splashy, dpkg complains that it can't remove
/lib/splashy because it still contains files, which are:

pluto:~# ll /lib/splashy
total 12
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 690 Jan 2 03:15 0-progress
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 887 Jan 2 03:15 2-progress
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 690 Jan 2 03:15 6-progress
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  23 Jan  2 03:15 S-progress ->
/lib/splashy/2-progress

You should add a preinst script, which cleans the directory, so dpkg can
remove the directory safely. Otherwise the files will be left rotting on
the hard disk.

I'm filing with severity serious, because imho it is a policy violation,
if a package is not correctly cleaned from the system after
deinstallation/purging.

Cheers and happy new year,
Michael

The following reveals an excessively high probability that
usr/share/amsn/ctadverts.tcl is, at least, not DFSG-free, if distributing it

Hi,

that file can be safely removed (and so I did in the latest
subversion), as it's unused.

So I'd suggest you just remove it.
Thanks very much for checking it.

Greets.

Indeed,

-Depends: tetex-bin | texlive-latex-base, tetex-extra | texlive-pstricks, gs,
${misc:Depends}
+Depends: tetex-bin | texlive-latex-base, tetex-extra | texlive-pstricks,

seems to be the right patch.

Masayuki, will you find time to make an upload? Or should I make an NMU?

If anyone wants to play the game, there is a workaround:

# mkdir -p /usr/share/games/wormux/font/
# ln -s /var/lib/defoma/fontconfig.d/D/DejaVu-Sans.ttf
/usr/share/games/wormux/font/DejaVuSans.ttf

Earlier Ionut said in one of the two merged bug logs that this problem
was caused by an older version of ec-fonts-mftraced. Maybe this is the
reason here, too?

However, I cannot find any hint of the existence of ec-fonts-mftraced in
Debian. What am I missing?

Bug#410271: fails to create database

2007-02-09 Thread Pedro Zorzenon Neto
Hi Rafal,

Thanks for reporting the bug. I analysed it and these are my toughts
about it:

   The manpage specifies:
If no database exists, the "add" command will create it automatically (in
the current directory, unless the TDL_DATABASE environment is set, in
which case this specifies the path to use).

This is the point where "tdl" fails. The auto-create behaviour has a
bug.

However, if you run the command "create", tdl works as expected, you
can use it as you wish. To remove "lock" problems, remove the file
.tdldb.lock that was created automatically.

About the lockfile, it is created in the same directory of the
database file. It should not be a global lockfile (home directory),
since some users (like me) open several tdl at the same time, each one
using a diferent directory/database/lockfile.

I'm working on this bug, as a workaround, please create the database
with the "create" command before adding new tasks.

   - changing the bug severity to "normal", since the program can be
used as expected if you create the database first. It is not completly
unusable.

   Thanks,
   Pedro

JFTR and my personal log: This bug report is a duplicate of
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=405186. The bug is in
libxml-sax-perl. Adding the `--encoding' option should fix it for the
moment, so build-dependencies can stay the same.

Leaving this bug opened, without reassigning it, to prevent further
reports of the same kind against docbook2x. Adding an etch-ignore tag,
that should fit the current situation.

Regards, Daniel

Bug#395858: libfile-homedir-perl: FTBFS: tests failed

Hello,

the fix from Version 0.56-1 does not work in the current version (0.64).

Upstream included more tests about $HOME and home from /etc/passwd so
the easy fix to change only $HOME in shell does not work.

I will now disable the complete make test in build process and upload
the new version 0.64 in few hours.

I could compile the package for a 2.6.18 kernel nicely, too.

no. it is only a policy violation *iff* MAKEDEV knows about the device.
it is already requested for inclusion, see #407345.

the number is not wrong and does work here, what makes it failing for you?

> If at all, it should use MAKEDEV to

again, MAKEDEV does not (yet) know about it.

Bug#410294: kqemu-common: Stop creating /dev/kqemu

2007-02-09 Thread Alex Hermann
Package: kqemu-common
Version: 1.3.0~pre9-12
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 10.6

kqemu creates a device file in its postinst script using mknod. This
violates Debian Policy 10.6. Additionally, it breaks usage of kqemu because
it creates the node with the wrong device numbers (kqemu is configured to
dynamically assign device numbers). If at all, it should use MAKEDEV to
create the device node which spares udev system of such breakage.

PCNG fails to run, crashing the plone instance, due to an obsolete

First of all, this update-alternatives never worked very well for courier,
don't know why.

The manpage says:

 --remove name path
Remove an alternative and all of its associated slave links.
name is a name in the alternatives directory, and path is an
absolute filename to which name could be linked. If name is
indeed linked to path, name will be updated to point to another
appropriate alternative, or removed if there is no such alterna
tive left. Associated slave links will be updated or removed,
correspondingly. If the link is not currently pointing to path,
no links are changed; only the information about the alternative
  is removed.

So update-alternatives should remove these manpage links by itself, right ?

Racke

I checked with the release managers on #debian-release (I wasn't sure

egroupware has a problem with php5.2

see http://www.nabble.com/php-5.2:-datetime-Konflikt-t2338358s3741.html

The package can not be used in unstable at the moment.
It should be possible to downgrade php5.2 to php5.1

The issue is solved in the development tree.

P.S.: Thank you for the freat installation procedure. The original
installation worked very well.

thanks for the patch. I've tried to apply it, but soundtouch doesn't
seem to like it, so probably a finer patch is needed. See the log

You really need to be more informative about your system and about what fails.

I just built and installed it nicely with m-a a-i shfs.

$ uname -r
2.6.18-1-vserver-k7

/Sune

I'm not able to mount the utility, how does it work?

From the drawer menu inside Outlook 98 you should telnet on a CD software on a
connection, in such way then you neither can ever doubleclick a 2-inch SCSI
window over a ethernet URL, nor must receive the periferic to debug the BIOS
of the BIOS on the pointer to the secret code.
