Bug#407460: USB ethernet interface renamed after installation on NSLU2 which causes the system to be inaccessible

2007-02-10 Thread Gordon Farquharson

On 1/18/07, Martin Michlmayr [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Well, I still believe this is a problem with udev. CCing Marco.

Marco, a while ago, you suggested that the problem could be due to

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=389250

but I still see the problem with 2.6.20 which includes the patch that
apparently fixes 389250. Do you any further ideas ?

Martin, in the meantime, what do you think about adding a script to
the installer to add the following rule to
/etc/udev/rules.d/z25_persistent-net.rules:

# Built-in Ethernet Adapter (NPE-B microcode not present)
SUBSYSTEM==net, DRIVERS==ixp4xx_mac, NAME=eth1

It is a hack, but adding this rule causes the USB Ethernet adapter to
be named eth0 as opposed to eth1_rename. The system would therefore be
accessible after an installation without the NPE-B microcode, which
means that we could downgrade the severity of the bug. I'm not sure
where to put such a script in the installer though.

Bug#406465: [bind backend] TXT record parsing overflow with special characters

 Despite having a team in the maintainer field and being RC this bug log
 shows no visible reaction since a month. If it's unmaintained we shouldn't
 include it in Etch.

One note, for all the bugs that I reported, it seemed limited to the
bind backend, and one not-yet-reported bug about it is that it actually
often 'forgets' zones too (not reported yet because I wanted to try to
reproduce on etch instead of on sarge, I will report it this weekend).

Reportedly, the other backends work just fine, and also, those are the
backend configuration in which pdns sees wide deployment (the usecase
for pdns with bind backend is pretty limited).

An option, therefore, is to have a pdns uploaded without the bind
backend, and a NEWS.Debian stating that sorry, no bind backend
available, because it's not of release quality or something.

Since other than our brief attempt at using pdns-with-bind-backend, I'm
not having any experience with pdns, I don't feel comfortable making
this change (and decision) myself, it's also pretty invasive so not
typically something to do in a NMU.

Hi,

 Per request of the security team (see below), gst-ffmpeg and its
 associated codecs support will be dropped for etch; this means your
 programs wont support some formats anymore. I strongly suggest to move
 to GStreamer 0.10 in unstable right now, this might give a chance to
 your program to be reviewed by the release team and transition to Etch.

 For teatime, I'm going to ask for an unblock hint; for muine, I think
 it would be ok to upload the new upstream release.

 This is the request of the security team:

On Sat, Feb 10, 2007, Moritz Muehlenhoff wrote:
 gstreamer-0.8 embeds a full copy of the ffmpeg, which frequently

 were more or less justified, but for gstreamer0.8 this isn't
 the case. It has only three rev-deps: teatime and and muine have
 already easily been fixed in sid/experimental. goobox appears dead
 upstream (According to http://www.gnomefiles.org/app.php?soft_id=531
 the last release is from Nov 2005), has hardly any users in popcon
 and we have plenty of media players in Debian. So unless it's fixed
 to use gstreamer 0.10 it'll need to be removed from Etch along with
 gstreamer 0.8.

I clearly lack the knowledge to port goobox to gstreamer 0.10.
Upstream has stated, that he has now time for the switch ATM, but will
try it later this year, clearly post Etch.

I will stick to the timeline presented on debian-devel: I will see if
upstream updates goobox later this year, if not, goobox should be
completely removed.

  This is the request of the security team:

Bug#410403: kismet: FTBFS on 64 it arches: gpsmap.cc:2249: error: cast from 'void*' to 'int' loses precision

2007-02-10 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Package: kismet
Version: 2007-01-R1b-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

Your package is failing to build on 64 bit arches. It generates lots of
warnings, and in the middle it has an error:
gpsmap.cc:2249: error: cast from 'void*' to 'int' loses precision

You can't cast a pointer to an int, since it's not the same size.

About the warnings:
You have some warnings in this style:
finitestate.cc:228: warning: format '%llx' expects type 'long long unsigned int
', but argument 5 has type 'long unsigned int'

That should say %lx
finitestate.cc:228: warning: format '%llx' expects type 'long long unsigned int
', but argument 6 has type 'uint64_t'

For this you can include inttypes.h and then use PRIx64 which will
expand to %llx or %lx

gpsmap.cc:1029: warning: format '%d' expects type 'int', but argument 3 has
type 'size_t'

That should be %zd

It also has warnings about redefining PACKAGE_*, but I wonder why
magick-config.h defines those.

Please look at the build log for all warnings:
http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=kismet;ver=2007-01-R1b-1;arch=amd64;stamp=1170885194

You should be able to build the GHCi library at package build time by
using ld in debian/rules; see

for the details.

   * Compile without Digital Radio Mondiale support, as it breaks base
 functionality
   * Update debian/copyright (See: #403117)

Matthew, so you agree that this bug can be closed?

Bug#410435: imagemagick: Buffer overflow vulnerability in PALM coder. (CVE-2007-0770)

2007-02-10 Thread Daniel Kobras
Package: imagemagick
Version: 7:6.2.4.5.dfsg1-0.13
Severity: grave
Tags: security patch
Justification: user security hole

Hi!

The attached patches fix a regression introduced while trying to plug
CVE-2006-5456. It's due to a textbook example of a coding error that I
cannot blame on anybody else but me. A malicious image file in PALM
format can still circumvent a range check and cause a buffer overflow.
Other vendors refer to this vulnerability as CVE-2007-0770. The new patch
appears to originate from Vladimir Nadvornik, at least I dug it out of
his OpenSuSE packages. I'll fix my own mess in unstable unless Ryuichi
objects. As sarge is affected as well, I'd like to ask the security team
to release another DSA. The debdiffs for both sid and sarge are
attached.

Now the good news is that it's carnival time around here so nobody's to
take notice of this guy with the brown papaer bag on his head...

Thanks,

Daniel.

 Hi,

 Your package is failing to build with the following error:
 dh_install -pwormux --sourcedir=debian/tmp
 cp: cannot stat `debian/tmp//usr/share/pixmaps/': No such file or directory
 dh_install: command returned error code 256
 make: *** [binary-install/wormux] Error 1

That's odd. It built fine within a pbuilder just before it was uploaded,
and usr/share/pixmap is included in debian/wormux.dirs. I've just built
it again, both inside a pbuilder and outside without any issues. Perhaps
some vagary of CDBS, or limited disk space during the build?

 I'm sorry to reopen this bug, but this problem happened again
 on my d-i test environment.

No, that is almost certainly not this bug but #380226. That bug is also
the reason why #379835 is still open (though not at RC priority because
of the block currently programmed in partman).

Closing again.

Bug#402148: latex-xft-fonts

2007-02-10 Thread Luk Claes
Per Olofsson wrote:
 Hi,

 latex-xft-fonts currently can't enter etch because of bug #402148
 (doesn't contain source). However, I would like to downgrade this
 bug and ask you to let the package enter etch. The reason is that the
 ttf files are the actual source for latex-xft-fonts (see the bug log),
 they are only a derived work of the (free) original LaTeX fonts.

 Although I'm not listed as the maintainer of the package, I am part of
 the team now maintaining LyX. Piotr Roszatycki used to maintain LyX,
 but hasn't been the maintainer for a long time, so the LyX team should
 probably take over latex-xft-fonts as well (the upstream source is the
 same as LyX).

 What do you think? It would be very useful to have latex-xft-fonts in
 etch, and it is pretty stable.

Sorry, freeze time is not the time to reintroduce a package in testing.

Cheers

Bug#409702: investigating this bug

2007-02-10 Thread Nico Golde
Hi Javier,
after a bit of conversation with Adolf in privat Mail I
think I know the reason for this bug.

in probe.c:
117 ···g_list_foreach(probes, get_probe_each, args);
...
 98 struct probe **pp = (struct probe **)args[1];
 99
100 //  DEBUG(printf(%s()\n, __FUNCTION__));
101 if(*pp == NULL)
102 {
103 if( p-port == (u16)port)
104 *pp = p;
105 }
106 }

I don't even know what cheops-ng is for, never used it so I don't know in which
situation
this happens but if g_list_foreach will pass a NULL pointer to args pp will
become NULL
which results in a segmentation fault in line 101.
To fix this a a check if(!pp) should be enough and maybe an additional check
why this function
passes a NULL pointer.
Kind regards
Nico

Bug#381045: reproducible with etch

2007-02-10 Thread Ondra Kudlik
Hi,

I can reproduce this bug with 1.0.21-8 version of
pure-ftpd-postgresql packages when I'm connecting to postgres on
different server.

I've got same bug when I'm running without -B flag.

On auth server, there is completely different version of postgresql
(older version), is this problem?

I can help you with tracing the problem, but I need know exactly
what information (what command outputs) do you need.

I think this bug should really be reopened.

Thanks,

Daniel.

Yes. This doesn't change the fact that this bug is fixed in version
0.56-1.1. Please don't mess around with the versioning of bugs (ie,
don't use reopen when found is what you want), it makes tracking bugs
harder than it needs to be. In this case, reopening was completly
unneeded, as a buggy version of 0.64 never entered the archive.

I am vaguely following this bug, so I may be doing something wrong. It
appears that the severity justification for this report is that the
package is unusable. However, this was referring to amaya, and
libwxgtk2.6-0 is not unusable, so I'm downgrading to important. It may
be good to clone the report to have a RC bug against amaya if it is
still RC-buggy.

upgrades which were done:
2007-02-01 08:47:47 upgrade ntop 3:3.2-5 3:3.2-8
I believe it was working fine after this ntop upgrade but started to
fail after upgrade of libssl (and the rest of the system ;-))
2007-02-09 16:22:12 upgrade libssl0.9.8 0.9.8c-3 0.9.8c-4
2007-02-09 16:38:22 upgrade openssl 0.9.8c-3 0.9.8c-4

Also I can't login on another (ia64 arch) box running ntop which I
upgraded at the same time. But on it the problem is a bit different:
first it reports SSL Error if I run it in links, and then asks for
login, but it seems that my valid password doesn't authenticate and
error messages are:

ii  libssl0.9.80.9.8c-4   SSL shared libraries
ii  ntop   3.2-8

I was thinking about filing a bugreport against libssl0.9.8 since may be
it had changed the way to signal expired certificates... but the problem
is seems to be in expired ntop's certificate so it seems to be ntop's
problem.

Thank you in advance
