Bug#421454: shlibs broken for binutils

2007-04-29 Thread Thomas Girard
Package: binutils

Hello,

the shlibs of binutils reads:

  libbfd 2.17 binutils
  libopcodes 2.17 binutils

while:

  libbfd soname is libbfd-2.17.50.20070426.so
  libopcodes soname is libopcodes-2.17.50.20070426.so

The shlibs sould probably be updated.

  Hi,

Elinks loads untrusted gettext catalog from the relative directory
../po/, and crashes (SIGSEGV) if the loaded file is corrupted.

 Hi,

I prepared a NMU for this bug, patch attached. The patch simply
disables the feature which lead to the opening of untrusted files.

Security team, I'll prepare packages for sarge and etch, let me know if
 I can upload to {,old}stable-security.

I don't see evidence this allows code injection, please point me to the
code in question.

Even if, the attack vector would be far too obscure to make this relevant
in practice.

Cheers,
Moritz

Bug#421490: Causes massive CPU load when enabled

2007-04-29 Thread David

Package: xmms-singit
Version: 0.1.28+dfsg-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

After installing enabling the xmms-singit package, XMMS starts taking 99% CPU
usage (according to top). Even when XMMS is doing nothing (ie started up
but not started playing music). This load also causes XMMS and the X
system to become unresponsive (if I don't kill it fast enough under X
I have to switch over to a text terminal to kill XMMS since X becomes
unusable).

This makes xmms-singit unusable for me.

Also, trying to disable the xmms-singit plugin in the XMMS
configuration window causes XMMS
to crash. I have to remove the xmms-singit package to get a usable XMMS.

Bug#421498: Breaks enigma, binary incompatible, seems unable to re-read files

2007-04-29 Thread Erich Schubert
Package: libzipios++0c2a
Version: 0.1.5.9+cvs.2007.04.28-1
Severity: serious

With the latest libzipios++0c2a update, enigma doesn't work anymore.
(Which seems to be the only application actually using the library...)

undefined symbol: _ZN6zipios13ZipLocalEntry7setSizeEj (/usr/games/enigma)

When rebuilt with the new package the missing symbol crash-on-exit
obviously goes away. However, enigma still can't read it's self-written
compressed files anymore (such as it's score file). I'm convinced that it is
a problem during reading the files, because it can't read any of the score
file backups either.

Bug#421504: klipper: Shift+Delete (as a keyboard shortcut for cut) does not work properly

2007-04-29 Thread Andreas Stempfhuber
Package: klipper
Version: 4:3.5.5a.dfsg.1-6
Severity: grave
Justification: causes non-serious data loss

Shift+Delete is a shortcut for cut like Ctrl+X but it does not work
properly.

Steps to reproduce the problem:
---
1) Configure Klipper to Synchronize contents of the clipboard and the
selection
2) Open a file editor like kate and enter the following three lines:

3) Doubleclick with your mouse on the first line to copy the line into
to clipboard.
4) Go to the end of the file (after the last line) and use the middle
mouse button to paste the clipboard into line 4. The result will be:

5) Go to the beginning of the second line and mark the whole line by
pressing Shift+Cursor down.
6) Press Shift+Delete to cut the line into the clipboard.
7) Go to the end of the file (after the last line) and press
Shift+Insert or Ctrl+V or the middle mouse button to paste the clipboard
into the last line. The result is:

But it should be:

The -line is lost, it's no longer in the file and also not in the
clipboard.

Additional information:
---
- Problem happens with Etch but not with Sarge.
- If the keyboard shortcut Shift+Delete is changed to something else
containing Shift (e.g. Shift+Home) then the problem happens also. If
it is changed to something else that does not contain Shift (e.g.
Ctrl+Home) then it does not happen. So it seems that it is a general
issue with the Shift key and Klipper.
- It happens even if the keyboard shortcut Shift+Delete is removed and
if khotkeys is used to send a Ctrl+X when Shift+Delete is pressed.

Thanks,

Andreas

Hi,

I've uploaded Gtk 2.10 to unstable and it changes ABI, which means that
your package will not work with Gtk 2.10 as is. The Gtk 2.10 package
added conflicts with the above version of your package to prevent any
problem, but you need to update your package to call the new
dh_gtkmodules tool: this tool will add a virtual dependency on the gtk
ABI via ${misc:Depends} to make the next transition easier -- only an
automatic rebuild will be needed for the next transition.

Updating your package should be relatively easy:

 1) Bump up the libgtk2.0-dev build-dep to = 2.10.1-1.

 2) Call dh_gtkmodules on the package(s) shipping the module(s).
If you build a library in the same source, you might need to set
an appropriate LD_LIBRARY_PATH for dh_gtkmodules to work.

 3) Make sure you have ${misc:Depends} in the dependencies of the
package(s) shipping the module(s); this should add a
gtk2.0-binver-2.10.0 dependency.

 4) If your package ships gdk-pixbuf loaders modules or input
methods modules:
a) Make sure you ship the new /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/*/loader-files.d/*
   and/or /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/*/immodule-files.d/* lists.
b) Remove any call to update-gdkpixbuf-loaders or
update-gtk-immodules or anything touching files in /etc/gtk-2.0
   in your postinst/postrm/etc. scripts.

Please ask me if anything above isn't clear!

 A concrete example of all the above changes (worst case) is libwmf;
this is how the necessary changes look like:

Bug#421524: snmpd uses 100% cpu

2007-04-29 Thread Tom Laermans
Package: snmpd
Version: 5.2.3-7
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

snmpd is running at 100% CPU on 2 of my systems, and will not respond to
polls. I have tried the default config file, which has the same effect.

After restarting the daemon I can snmpwalk up to (ip's modified):

IP-MIB::ipAdEntBcastAddr.127.0.0.1 = INTEGER: 0
IP-MIB::ipAdEntBcastAddr.172.16.0.1 = INTEGER: 1
IP-MIB::ipAdEntBcastAddr.192.168.35.4 = INTEGER: 1
IP-MIB::ipAdEntBcastAddr.1.2.3.4 = INTEGER: 1
IP-MIB::ipAdEntBcastAddr.1.2.3.5 = INTEGER: 0
IP-MIB::ipAdEntBcastAddr.1.2.3.6 = INTEGER: 0
IP-MIB::ipAdEntBcastAddr.1.2.3.7 = INTEGER: 1
Timeout: No Response from sys.tem.host.name

After this the daemon goes to full CPU in a loop, strace loops this:

Bug#421526: /var/lib/gcj-4.1 missing; causes post-inst failure.

2007-04-29 Thread Matthew William Solloway Bell
Package: gij-4.1
Version: 4.2.1-4
Severity: grave
Justification: Stops package from installing

I received the following output on upgrading to gij-4.1 (4.1.2-4):

# dpkg --configure -a
Setting up gij-4.1 (4.1.2-4) ...
error: could not create /var/lib/gcj-4.1/classmap.db:
java.io.IOException: No such file or directory
dpkg: error processing gij-4.1 (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 2

Creating the directory, /var/lib/gcj-4.1, allowed the installation to
succeed.

Bug#393285: Documentation needed

2007-04-29 Thread Nagy Elemer Karoly

Dear Ola,

Note: I have not cc'd to bug report. And this letter is long.

Why can't you use the vserver enabled kernels provided?

Because they don't boot.

I do not know exactly why, as the operator does not speak English and does
not know Linux - but the kernel was not able to mount the root filesystem
(RAID on adaptec SCSI controller on rare motherboard). I attached a config
file - you might find the diff in question if you are really interested :)
It's booting through lilo, it was not a xen-vserver but a pure vserver
image linux-image-2.6.18-4-vserver-686 2.6.18.dfsg.1-12.
/boot is stored on ext2 /dev/sda1 and /boot2 is on /dev/sdb1 (for recovery
only). Lilo installs to /dev/sda mbr. Maybe the problem was that it have

not found the initrd image, but I do not know if it needs it (if it does,
I have a juicy lilo/kernel-image package installer bug - it was in
/boot, it was linked from / but it was not in lilo.conf). I disable
modularity anyway, but this might have been the problem, on second look.
When the system was halted and I was not near the local console, I decided
not to play with it - but then, there is no external driver needed for
2.6.18. When we started this server, we needed an external driver and
vserver patch, but migrating from Sarge-Etch to Etch changed a few
things. Well, I guess, this is a lot of information you don't care about
:)

First I need to know what the purpose, so I know why you need to compile
your own version of the kernel. After that I can find some good
solution.

The HW in question is, as by lspci:
00:00.0 Host bridge: Broadcom CMIC-LE Host Bridge (GC-LE chipset) (rev 33)
00:00.1 Host bridge: Broadcom CMIC-LE Host Bridge (GC-LE chipset)
00:00.2 Host bridge: Broadcom CMIC-LE Host Bridge (GC-LE chipset)
00:04.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Rage XL (rev 27)
00:05.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5703X
Gigabit Ethernet (rev 02)

00:0f.0 Host bridge: Broadcom CSB6 South Bridge (rev a0)
00:0f.1 IDE interface: Broadcom CSB6 RAID/IDE Controller (rev a0)
00:0f.2 USB Controller: Broadcom CSB6 OHCI USB Controller (rev 05)
00:0f.3 ISA bridge: Broadcom GCLE-2 Host Bridge
00:11.0 Host bridge: Broadcom CIOB-X2 PCI-X I/O Bridge (rev 05)
00:11.2 Host bridge: Broadcom CIOB-X2 PCI-X I/O Bridge (rev 05)
01:04.0 SCSI storage controller: Adaptec AIC-7902 U320 (rev 03)
01:04.1 SCSI storage controller: Adaptec AIC-7902 U320 (rev 03)
01:08.0 PCI bridge: Digital Equipment Corporation DECchip 21154 (rev 02)
02:04.0 Ethernet controller: Adaptec ANA620xx/ANA69011A (rev 03)
02:05.0 Ethernet controller: Adaptec ANA620xx/ANA69011A (rev 03)
02:06.0 Ethernet controller: Adaptec ANA620xx/ANA69011A (rev 03)
02:07.0 Ethernet controller: Adaptec ANA620xx/ANA69011A (rev 03)

Well that is not related to security... :)

OK - where to send? Linux-source? Linux-tree? Kernel maintainer list?

Maybe a vserver.txt in the kernel tree in Documentation sublibrary with
the 6 patch commands that save 12 hours?

Regards
Elemer

Yes, I know. This bug seems to only trigger on alpha, maybe because of some
alignment contraints or something – I really don't have any idea… – and thus
I can't find a workaround for it. (If you want to be nice to me, get an alpha
and try the diff below; I don't really want to have my sponsor upload another
package if it's not really working around the alpha bug.)

I can only suspect the bug is triggered by use of -std=gnu99 (the restrict
keyword makes the difference, which doesn't exist in c89), but not on all
architectures, but, on the other hand, the bug is actually in machine in-
dependent code and a bug in the libc headers.

Caveat: this is just a (possible) work-around, not a fix. But if it turns
out to indeed make mksh buildable on alpha again, I'll have an upgraded

Bug#421534: wordpress: New 2.0.10 release claims to fix security issues, should be in stable security updates

The upstream 2.0.10 release notes claim that it fixes security problems,

Bug#419919: please move this to 0-day NMU

2007-04-29 Thread sean finney
hi luk,

pretty please with sugar on top move this to a 0-day NMU.

currently the php4/php5 updates in unstable which close like 30 million
security vulnerabilities are not building because of this breakage.

as this is rather... annoying... i might rebuild with your NMU patch and
put it in 0-day myself tomorrow afternoon if you or the maintainer don't
beat me to it.

With the latest libzipios++0c2a update, enigma doesn't work anymore.
(Which seems to be the only application actually using the library...)

undefined symbol: _ZN6zipios13ZipLocalEntry7setSizeEj (/usr/games/enigma)

When rebuilt with the new package the missing symbol crash-on-exit
obviously goes away. However, enigma still can't read it's self-written
compressed files anymore (such as it's score file). I'm convinced that it is
a problem during reading the files, because it can't read any of the score
file backups either.

Bug#421566: vdrift: wrong architecture limitations in debian/control (alpha)

2007-04-29 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: vdrift
Version: 0.0.2006.10.06-1
Severity: serious
Justification: release policy, Packages must be supported on as many
architectures as is reasonably possible

Hi Gonéri,

The vdrift package is marked as only being buildable on amd64, i386, ia64,
and powerpc. This is wrong; the code builds fine on alpha, arm, and mipsel,
and is only prevented from being uploaded by this architecture list.

I see in the bug log of 400596 that a member of the security team has
offered the opinion that vdrift should not be built on arm because there's
no need for a 3d-intense game on an embedded arch, but this reasoning does
not apply to alpha and mipsel which are not embedded architectures and may
very well have suitable 3d-accelerated hardware.

Please reenable the build on alpha and mipsel. The attached patch should
suffice.

Cheers,

Package: libcgi-formbuilder-perl
Version: 3.04.01-1
Severity: serious

This new upstream version of CGI::FormBuilder has some behavior changes
and at least one outright bug that, collectively, make it not work with
versions of ikiwiki before 1.35.

It should not be allowed to transition to testing until ikiwiki 1.35 has
made it into testing.

The RMs might have more to say about the general wisdom of letting this
major new upstream version of CGI::FormBuilder with its odd behavior
changes into testing at this late date in the etch release cycle.

Bug#419919: please move this to 0-day NMU

 hi luk,

Hi Sean

pretty please with sugar on top move this to a 0-day NMU.

Ok, I moved it to 0-day.

currently the php4/php5 updates in unstable which close like 30 million
security vulnerabilities are not building because of this breakage.

as this is rather... annoying... i might rebuild with your NMU patch and
put it in 0-day myself tomorrow afternoon if you or the maintainer don't
 beat me to it.

Cheers

Luk
