Bug#425799: libc6-i386 tries to overwrite /lib32 symlink made by ncurses
reassign 425799 lib32ncurses5 thanks Joshua Kwan a écrit : Package: libc6-i386 Version: 2.5-9 Severity: serious Preparing to replace libc6-i386 2.5-8 (using .../libc6-i386_2.5-9_amd64.deb) ... Unpacking replacement libc6-i386 ... dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/libc6-i386_2.5-9_amd64.deb (--unpack): trying to overwrite `/lib32', which is also in package lib32ncurses5 The problem here is that lib32ncurses5 5.6-1 is still installed, and it provides the same symlink... If I let this install fail, and dpkg -i lib32ncurses5 5.6-3, which removes the symlink, then try this again, it all works. This is a bug in lib32ncurses5, not in libc6-i386. -- .''`. Bug#421582: libimager-perl 0.58 is now in incoming
Hey Tony, Two things, I noticed the other day that you picked up a Sourceforge project for libimager-perl (sf.net/projects/imager-perl). I know these things because I approved the request :) Are you going to be moving development there, or just using that as a backup? Secondly, does the update need to be applied to the stable release? If so, I can begin that process. Please let me know. -Jay Bonci [EMAIL PROTECTED] signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part
Bug#421582: marked as done ([CVE-2007-2459] buffer overflow when reading 8-bit compressed BMP files)
Your message dated Thu, 24 May 2007 06:32:02 + with message-id [EMAIL PROTECTED] and subject line Bug#421582: fixed in libimager-perl 0.58-1 has caused the attached Bug report to be marked as done. (NB: If you are a system administrator and have no idea what I am talking about this indicates a serious mail system misconfiguration somewhere. Please contact me immediately.) Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: libimager-perl Version: 0.50-1 Severity: grave Tags: security patch Justification: user security hole I'm the upstream maintainer for the Imager perl module. The BMP reader in Imager 0.56 and earlier can cause a memory overflow in a malloced() buffer when reading an 8-bit/pixel compressed image where a literal or RLE run overflows the scan-line boundary. This typically causes the program to exit with a glibc bug, but it may also be possible to corrupt the memory arena in such a way as to execute arbitrary code, though I don't see how. At the very least this could be a denial of service. I've attached a patch that should apply to Imager 0.45 through 0.56 (with some fuzz). I've released Imager 0.57 to CPAN which fixes this issue. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-4-686 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages libimager-perl depends on: ii libc6 2.3.6.ds1-13 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libfreetype6 2.2.1-5FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libjpeg62 6b-13 The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libpng12-01.2.15~beta5-1 PNG library - runtime ii libt1-5 5.1.0-2Type 1 font rasterizer library - r ii libtiff4 3.8.2-7Tag Image File Format (TIFF) libra ii libungif4g4.1.4-4shared library for GIF images ii perl 5.8.8-7Larry Wall's Practical Extraction ii perl-base [perlapi-5.8.8] 5.8.8-7The Pathologically Eclectic Rubbis ii zlib1g1:1.2.3-13 compression library - runtime libimager-perl recommends no packages. -- no debconf information Index: bmp.c === --- bmp.c (revision 1210) +++ bmp.c (working copy) @@ -916,6 +916,13 @@ } } else if (packed[0]) { + if (x + packed[0] xsize) { + /* this file is corrupt */ + myfree(line); + i_push_error(0, invalid data during decompression); + i_img_destroy(im); + return NULL; + } line[0] = packed[1] 4; line[1] = packed[1] 0x0F; for (i = 0; i packed[0]; i += 2) { @@ -958,6 +965,13 @@ default: count = packed[1]; + if (x + count xsize) { + /* this file is corrupt */ + myfree(line); + i_push_error(0, invalid data during decompression); + i_img_destroy(im); + return NULL; + } size = (count + 1) / 2; read_size = (size+1) / 2 * 2; if (ig-readcb(ig, packed, read_size) != read_size) { @@ -1113,6 +1127,13 @@ } } if (packed[0]) { + if (x + packed[0] xsize) { + /* this file isn't incomplete, it's corrupt */ + myfree(line); + i_push_error(0, invalid data during decompression); + i_img_destroy(im); + return NULL; + } memset(line, packed[1], packed[0]); i_ppal(im, x, x+packed[0], y, line); x += packed[0]; @@ -1147,6 +1168,14 @@ default: count = packed[1]; + if (x + count xsize) { + /* runs shouldn't cross a line boundary */ + /* this file isn't incomplete, it's corrupt */ + myfree(line); + i_push_error(0, invalid data during decompression); + i_img_destroy(im); + return NULL; + } read_size = (count+1) / 2 * 2; if (ig-readcb(ig, line, read_size) != read_size) { myfree(line); ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: libimager-perl Source-Version: 0.58-1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of libimager-perl, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: libimager-perl_0.58-1.diff.gz to pool/main/libi/libimager-perl/libimager-perl_0.58-1.diff.gz libimager-perl_0.58-1.dsc to pool/main/libi/libimager-perl/libimager-perl_0.58-1.dsc libimager-perl_0.58-1_i386.deb to pool/main/libi/libimager-perl/libimager-perl_0.58-1_i386.deb libimager-perl_0.58.orig.tar.gz to pool/main/libi/libimager-perl/libimager-perl_0.58.orig.tar.gz A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is

Bug#425742: gnome-session: completely breaks desktop
Le mercredi 23 mai 2007 à 23:52 +0200, Julien Langer a écrit : Could you send us your .gnome2/session file? Does it help if you move it away? I did not have a session file since I never saved one and disabled the automatic save feature in gnome-session-settings. And that also seems to be the problem, -2 refuses to start when no session file is present. I just saved one with -1 and now -2 also starts. However -2 should also work without a session file. Interestingly with the created session file the splash screen doesn't disappear anymore (only when left clicked. This did not happen without a session file in -1) Is the only difference between your attempts the gnome-session version? The only change between -1 and -2 is in the session saving code, not in startup code. As both were uploaded on different architectures, this may be a problem of missing or buggy build-dependencies. If you have some time, it would be nice to check whether rebuilding the package changes anything. -- .''`. : :' : We are debian.org. Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: postgresql-common Version: 74 Severity: critical Justification: breaks the whole system /etc/init.d/postgresql-7.4 stop blocks indefinitely for me, making a clean system shutdown impossible without altering the script. The first time, this forced my to power-off my machine which could possibly lead to filesystem corruption. The problem seems to be that pg_ctl of postgresql-7.4 fails and /usr/bin/pg_ctlcluster does not give the slightest hint that something is wrong but simply blocks. If I comment out close STDOUT just before the pg_ctl call, the following appears on the console: /usr/lib/postgresql/7.4/bin/pg_ctl: line 298: expr: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden /usr/lib/postgresql/7.4/bin/pg_ctl: line 299: [: : integer expression expected /usr/lib/postgresql/7.4/bin/pg_ctl: line 307: sleep: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden (endlessly repeated) I'm not sure what's causing this - my default system shell /bin/sh is bash, as on most other Debian systems I guess, and the code looks like valid sh / bash script code to me. This bug is solved now, but for those who already did purge, the only solution is to reinstall the texlive packages (in particular texlive-base and texlive-base-bin, but that might not be sufficient) with the dpkg option --force-confmiss. Yes, I had the same problem this morning and invoking dpkg -i --force-confmiss texlive-base_2007-7_all.deb texlive-base-bin_2007-8_i386.deb fixed it. Thank you and best regards, Jörg

Bug#423959: Bug reassigned
Hello, I've reassigned the bug to libtagcoll-dev. The reason is that 'tagcoll' is a bit of an ambiguous name here: it's the name of the old source package 'tagcoll' (that has this bug) but it's also the name of the binary package 'tagcoll' generated by the source package 'tagcoll2' (that does not have this bug). I wish I can remove the old tagcoll source package soon; it's unfortunately still required for adept, that hasn't yet been ported to the new engine codebase. Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: ardour Version: 1:2.0.2-1 Severity: grave The default package of ardour 2.0.2, which is built with SHLIBS=1, locks up my whole system. My machine is a Core 2 Duo 64-bit at 2.33Ghz w/2GB RAM, and jackd with RT priorities set through the rtirq script. Ardour's CPU usage goes to 100%. Mouse and keyboard become unresponsive. Crazy amounts of Xruns in JACK, sound stutters, it's bad. The ardour-gtk 0.99 package exhibits the exact same behaviour on this system. Howerver, upstream ardour 2.0.2 runs perfectly on this system when run from its source tree with ardev, when built WITHOUT debian patches or SHLIBS flags, as default build. Basically: ardour 2 runs perfectly with its own built-in libs, but using the debian sid system libs, as the package does, causes ardour to not be operational. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.21-rt1-1 (SMP w/2 CPU cores; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages ardour depends on: ii jackd 0.103.0-5JACK Audio Connection Kit (server ii libart-2.0-22.3.19-3 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libasound2 1.0.13-2 ALSA library ii libatk1.0-0 1.18.0-2 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libc6 2.5-7GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.4.6-1 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libflac71.1.2-6 Free Lossless Audio Codec - runtim ii libfontconfig1 2.4.2-1.2generic font configuration library ii libgcc1 1:4.2-20070516-1 GCC support library ii libglib2.0-02.12.12-1The GLib library of C routines ii libglibmm-2.4-1c2a 2.12.9-0.1 C++ wrapper for the GLib toolkit ( ii libgnomecanvas2-0 2.14.0-2 A powerful object-oriented display ii libgnomecanvasmm-2.6-1c 2.14.0-1 C++ wrappers for libgnomecanvas2 ( ii libgtk2.0-0 2.10.12-2The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libgtkmm-2.4-1c2a 1:2.10.10-0.2C++ wrappers for GTK+ 2.4 (shared ii libjack00.103.0-5JACK Audio Connection Kit (librari ii liblo0 0.23-2.1 Lightweight OSC library ii liblrdf00.4.0-1+b1 a library to manipulate RDF files ii libpango1.0-0 1.16.4-1 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libraptor1 1.4.15-2+b2 Raptor RDF parser and serializer l ii libsamplerate0 0.1.2-4 audio rate conversion library ii libsigc++-2.0-0c2a 2.0.17-2 type-safe Signal Framework for C++ ii libsoundtouch1c21.3.0-2.1sound stretching library ii libstdc++6 4.2-20070516-1 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-62:1.0.3-7X11 client-side library ii libxcursor1 1:1.1.8-2X cursor management library ii libxext61:1.0.3-2X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxfixes3 1:4.0.3-2X11 miscellaneous 'fixes' extensio ii libxi6 1:1.0.1-4X11 Input extension library ii libxinerama11:1.0.2-1X11 Xinerama extension library ii libxml2 2.6.28.dfsg-1GNOME XML library ii libxrandr2 2:1.2.1-1X11 RandR extension library ii libxrender1 1:0.9.2-1X Rendering Extension client libra ii libxslt1.1 1.1.20-1 XSLT processing library - runtime ii python 2.4.4-6 An interactive high-level object-o ii python-gtk2 2.10.4-2 Python bindings for the GTK+ widge ii python-twisted 2.4.0-3 Event-based framework for internet Versions of packages ardour recommends: ii epiphany-browser [www-browser 2.18.1-2 Intuitive GNOME web browser ii icedove [www-browser] 2.0.0.0-1 free/unbranded thunderbird mail/ne ii iceweasel [www-browser] 2.0.0.3-2 lightweight web browser based on M ii lynx [www-browser]2.8.6-2Text-mode WWW Browser ii w3m

severity 425831 wishlist title 425831 please guard sudo and su sessions as well tags 425831 help thanks This package only works if you're still using the account you logged in as. Logging in as a normal user, then using sudo or su for root privileges, breaks the SSH test. I have not had the time to investigate how to test for the common cases you list. In case you want to speed things up, please consider sending precise information or even a patch. What I need are obvious characteristics that I can use to distinguish remote sessions from local ones. Unfortunately, sudo purges $SSH_CONNECTION from the environment, and su does not propagate it either. One way to do it might be to obtain the current terminal node and check whether it was created by sshd: PTS=$(readlink /proc/$$/fd/0) pgrep -f ^sshd.+${PTS#/dev/}$ /dev/null I'll put this suggestion by Craig Small and Don Armstrong into the next version. Bug#421582: libimager-perl 0.58 is now in incoming
Greetings Security Team, Please have a look at #421582. This bug effects both stable and oldstable. The patch applies cleanly, and I can build a stable/oldstable package if need be. I'm a bit shaky on the proper security handling here, so please advise as to the right course of action. I can provide source/diffs if that works best. The package in Testing / Unstable is currently good. Please advise, -Jay Bonci On Thu, 2007-05-24 at 17:05 +1000, Tony Cook wrote: Hi Jay, On Thu, May 24, 2007 at 02:27:35AM -0400, Jay Bonci wrote: Hey Tony, Two things, I noticed the other day that you picked up a Sourceforge project for libimager-perl (sf.net/projects/imager-perl). I know these things because I approved the request :) Are you going to be moving development there, or just using that as a backup? For now it's just a backup. Secondly, does the update need to be applied to the stable release? If so, I can begin that process. Please let me know. It needs to applied to stable and oldstable too. Bug#425863: FTBFS: teckit/libtool yields multiple definition errors

Bug#425863: FTBFS: teckit/libtool yields multiple definition errors
Frank Küster [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Hm, I'm curious why this happens now. The only changes to the build process that we made between -7 and -8 was to add the configure options --enable-shared --enable-ipc. We don't want to create a shared teckit library, nor link dynamically to that code. Hell, did we do that? Just the former, AFAICT. No, it seems it is statically linked into xetex. Right, the only thing that uses TECkit is xetex, which explicitly links statically against ../../libs/teckit/lib/.libs/libTECkit.a. (OTOH, it could stand to link dynamically against libkpathsea.) Have you checked that it works, and on which architectures? I ran a test build on my amd64 machine and encountered no errors. Maybe it's safer to patch teckit to ignore --enable-shared? It looks like it should be possible to avoid patching anything by changing --enable-shared to --enable-shared=default (as TECkit and other third-party libraries set PACKAGE); the corresponding test build is still in progress, but I'll be sure to let you know how it goes. We'll do our best, but I'd like to make sure it's the right fix. Understood. Thanks! -- Aaron M. We can't assume people will always get lib32ncurses5 in first. There are two ways to fix this. 1) Make libc6-i386 depend on lib32ncurses5. This is stupid. 2) Make libc6-i386 Replaces: lib32ncurses5. This package (lib32ncurses5) will be updated in unstable and 5.6-3 won't exist anymore, we don't care about it beeing smoothly upgraded or not. unstable is unstable, suffer it, or use stable. No we won't add random replaces for packages that never made it to testing, else we would have all Debian in Replaces, which is a very bad thing (remember, if we put a replace and that we *actually* overwrite a file that is not ours, it's silentely ignored, very bad). So I agree with daniel here, and it's not a glibc bug *AT ALL*. kthxbye -- ·O· Pierre Habouzit ··O[EMAIL PROTECTED] OOOhttp://www.madism.org pgpTIws60tmtq.pgp Description: PGP signature

Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: tetex-base Version: 3.0.dfsg.3-5 Severity: grave Justification: Makes texlive packages unusable This BR is a follow-up to the discussion on the d-tex-maint mailing list that starts at [1] and in which a a series of unexpected behavior is discussed seen while building the Debian Installation Guide after making the transition from tetex to texlive. Part of the problems discussed there can be traced to this BR: the fact that some essential configuration files had gone missing. Important here is that at some point I decided to *purge* the old tetex transition packages (which is a completely valid action). The problem seems to be that the ownership of some config files is not transfered from the old tetex packages (now empty transition packages) to the corresponding texlive packages. Attached is a tarball with a series of files that show the changes in /etc/texmf/ and in installed packages in the following series of actions: 01 Start situation with cleanly installed texlive, including several texlive-lang-* packages 02 Purged all TeX related packages: one file not deleted 03 Clean install of Etch tetex packages 04 Upgraded to a somewhat minimal texlive install (without the texlive-lang-* packages); at this point some old tetex config files are still installed (diff 04 and 07) 05 Purge old transition packages 06 Purge whole installation: 10tipa.cfg remains behind 07 Clean install of texlive again, this time same packages as 04 Here is an overview of differences in /etc/texmf between: A) an Etch tetex installation, upgraded to texlive B) a clean texlive installation The following files are present after A, but not after B: /etc/texmf/updmap.d/10tipa.cfg I suspect that this file should have been deleted during the upgrade of tipa 1.3-4 to 1.3-5, but isn't. The following files are present after B, but not after A: /etc/texmf/dvipdfm/config/dvipdfmx.cfg (maybe) /etc/texmf/dvips/config/config.ps /etc/texmf/fmt.d/01tetex.cnf (maybe) /etc/texmf/metafont/misc/modes.mf /etc/texmf/tex/generic/config/pdftexconfig.tex /etc/texmf/tex/latex/config/color.cfg /etc/texmf/tex/latex/config/graphics.cfg /etc/texmf/tex/latex/config/hyperref.cfg /etc/texmf/web2c/mktex.cnf Two files are marked as maybe as I'm not 100% sure if they should be installed or not or how they were created. It seems that that the first was created as the result of a 'texconfig-sys' run (which may also explain why it was not purged in 02). I'm unsure about the second as it was not present in 01, but it was in 07. That would be good... have you found a way to build it from source in order to do that? Nope, but we could just orphan it by retitling a bug, we don't need to change the maintainer. Your message dated Thu, 24 May 2007 19:47:17 + with message-id [EMAIL PROTECTED] and subject line Bug#425863: fixed in texlive-bin 2007-9 has caused the attached Bug report to be marked as done. Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: texlive-bin Version: 2007-8 Severity: serious Tags: patch Justification: no longer builds from source The version of libtool in .../libs/teckit is buggy (rant about libtool in general elided ;-).
