Bug#429140: tried with apache2
I did an NMU on rivet for Lenny. Most recent upstream appears to be 24-Mar-2005. I have tried to build rivet against apache2 but the build fails. Simple fixes cause a later failure with the (anticipated) API changes between apache and apache2. I haven't heard from David Welton yet. I think rivet may have to be removed - I'll wait some more to see if David has anything to add, then file the removal bug. -- Neil Williams = http://www.data-freedom.org/ http://www.nosoftwarepatents.com/ http://www.linux.codehelp.co.uk/ pgpXVf8tK5CBi.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#429106: please update/request removal of your package
gregor herrmann dijo [Fri, Jun 15, 2007 at 10:55:53PM +0200]: These are the problems your package currently has: libapache-dbilogger-perl (dependency): libapache-mod-perl Please either send the ftp team a removal request for your package if it isn't able to work with apache2, or update it to build (only) packages for apache2. If I understand the changelogs and Gunnar's comments in #397491 correctly, libapache-dbilogger-perl should already work with apache2/libapache2-mod-perl2. I've now updated the dependencies in svn; could someone more familiar with this issue please take look (Gunnar maybe - the bar at Teviot is closing anyway in a few minutes ;-))? Hi, Yes, I have modified libapache-dbi-perl to work with Apache2. It is not _very_ proven (I only tested if it worked, not if it worked fine under real-world conditions). If so, I can try to build xulrunner with gcc-snapshot on mips. But I believe the failure I mention above happens before the failure in #428582, so I'm not sure building it on mips will show anything useful. The bug does not happen on alpha, amd64, hppa, ia64, powerpc, s390, or sparc. arm built the most recent version of xulrunner with gcc-4.1 4.1.2-8, so it's unknown whether it's affected. m68k fails when building with gcc-4.1 4.1.2-12 with the error you listed above. -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. Bug#423441: -f option raises security concerns
On Fri, Jun 15, 2007 at 07:35:55PM +0200, Gerfried Fuchs wrote: On Fri, Jun 15, 2007 at 09:44:00AM -0600, Neale Pickett wrote: I decided not to use blosxom at all, and I haven't used Perl since version 4, but it seems like it wouldn't be a ton of work to do both: support Getopt::Long and look at $ENV. Then, nothing breaks for anybody. Thanks for your opinion, it's appreciated. But, pulling in Getopt::Long would require yet another module which I would want to avoid, especially since it still isn't fully GNU Getopt compatible in that it insists on a space between a short option and its value, which is quite annoying. Hi, thanks for your comments. I'm quite OK whatever route you take to fix the hole. Myself I prefer using existing modules where possible but I can see that Getopt::Long is not the smallest module around for what it does. Using $ENV{BLOSXOM_CONFIG_FILE} would certainly be smaller and it might make a difference in a small but well loaded server. As to the syntax. The current way of specifying -f, using CGI param(), requires -f=/etc/foo. I tested the syntax and found that it in the form I used, Getopt accepts the same -f= syntax as the existing Debian patch. So no user of -f (if there are any) would have to change. This usage also accepts -f /etc/foo If you want Getopt as GNU compatible with bundled short-options then you can change the call to be use Getopt::Long qw(:config pass_through bundling ) but now it will no longer accept -f= since the = sign will be taken as part of the string parameter. For full GNU syntax use (:config pass_through gnu_getopt). If it were my program I would remove all the sloppy uses of param() to pass command line options, and replace them with Getopt style processing or introduce some other mechanism as you propose for the static rendering. The analysis I did shows that there is no case where a command line option should also be valid on CGI, nor vice versa. It's really bad: as we've seen here it's so easy to copy the existing code and introduce a security problem. But that magnitude of change belongs upstream :-) If I continue using Blosxom (it's one of the two blogs I've evaluated so far) then I may see if I can help bring the main program's coding standards up to scratch. Bug#423441: -f option raises security concerns
Nick Leverton [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Thanks for your opinion, it's appreciated. But, pulling in Getopt::Long would require yet another module which I would want to avoid, especially since it still isn't fully GNU Getopt compatible in that it insists on a space between a short option and its value, which is quite annoying. As to the syntax. The current way of specifying -f, using CGI param(), requires -f=/etc/foo. I tested the syntax and found that it in the form I used, Getopt accepts the same -f= syntax as the existing Debian patch. So no user of -f (if there are any) would have to change. This usage also accepts -f /etc/foo If that's the case, couldn't you do soemthing like (my perl is old and rusty so apologies for the pseudo-perl): while (@ARGV) { if (/^-([a-z])=(.*)$/) { # do a big switch on $1, setting variables to $2 } } and avoid the use of modules altogether? You could even use this regex: /^([a-z]=?(.*)$/ To allow -f=foo and -ffoo Neale -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#419050: is this really a grave bug?
It may be that I'm sticking out my head here but I question the assignment of this bug as grave. Certainly there is a problem with the default configuration if a user wishes to include files installed somewhere in /usr/ as the default configuration prohibits that. But remember that it is a configuration issue, most users can use sudo to change it or perhaps ask their sysadmin to do it. For the case of terraform, it may be done by adding the line read* = /usr/share/terraform somewhere in /etc/povray/3.6/povray.conf But for users of povray who do not try to include files from directories which are configured by default to be inaccessible, the current povray package does function properly. We should also keep in mind that the current default configuration is similar to the default configuration obtained when one does compile and install PoV-Ray from source directly. In summary, the reported problem does not render the package unusable, it does not cause data loss, or introduce a security hole when installed. Thus it is appropriate with a lower severity level than grave. Important, normal or even minor, could all be considered. The possibility of restricting file access beyond the permissions of the file system was introduced in PoV-Ray 3.5 for reasons explained in the PoV-Ray manual. Based on the standard for placing files in the file system, files of type .inc or .pov included in a Debian package, would normally be placed somewhere in /usr. To ease the coexistence of other Debian packages with functionality for PoV-Ray, it could therefore be a good thing to include the whole /usr hierarchy as readable in the default configuration. This means the lines read* = /usr/share/povray/include read* = /usr/share/povray/scenes in /etc/povray/3.6/povray.conf would be replaced by read* = /usr Anders -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#429257: asks for file Arabicore.sty while provide arabicore.sty
Mazen NEIFER [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Package: texlive-lang-arab Version: 2007.dfsg.1-2 Severity: serious --- Please enter the report below this line. --- File /usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/latex/arabi/arabic.ldf is asking for latex package named Arabicore.sty while this one is provided as arabicore.sty. This seems to be caused by the original package sources (which was developed for windows latex). This bug prevents using the texlive-lang-arab to produce documents. Just converting Arabicore.sty occurrences to arabicore.sty (4 occurrences) fixes the problem. Are you sure this warrants a severity of serious? One cannot use [arabic]{babel}, but one can still use the other parts which the package provides: There are more style files in the arabi subdirectory, and there's the arabtex package. Anyway, I'll report that upstream and ask how it will be fixed (renaming the file or adjusting the filename in arabic.ldf). Bug#429191: flyspray phpmailer: not relevant for stable
Hi all, A security bug has been discovered in PHPMailer: | PHPMailer 1.7, when configured to use sendmail, allows remote | attackers to execute arbitrary shell commands via shell metacharacters | in the SendmailSend function in class.phpmailer.php http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2007-3215 https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detailaid=1734811group_id =26031atid=385707 Your package contains a copy of PHPMailer. I've fixed this for unstable since replacing the copy of phpmailer with a dependency was a good move anyway. For stable I've checked whether it's vulnerable and I believe it's not: the vulnerability is in the SendmailSend() function. That requires for the calling code to actually use the sendmail method, which Flyspray does not allow in any configuration. I suppose the security team does not send advisories for insecure code that is not called? As an additional note: sarge is not vulnerable because it doesn't contain a copy of the phpmailer class at all. Thijs -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#393364: marked as done (Source package contains non-free IETF RFC/I-D's)
Your message dated Sun, 17 Jun 2007 19:32:02 + with message-id [EMAIL PROTECTED] and subject line Bug#393364: fixed in dhcp 2.0pl5dfsg1-20 has caused the attached Bug report to be marked as done. This means that you claim that the problem has been dealt with. If this is not the case it is now your responsibility to reopen the Bug report if necessary, and/or fix the problem forthwith. (NB: If you are a system administrator and have no idea what I am talking about this indicates a serious mail system misconfiguration somewhere. Please contact me immediately.) Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: dhcp Version: 2.0pl5-19.4 Severity: serious Hi! This bug has been filed on multiple packages, and general discussions are kindly requested to take place on debian-legal or debian-devel in the thread with Subject: Non-free IETF RFC/I-Ds in source packages. It seems this source package contains the following files from the IETF under non-free license terms: dhcp-2.0pl5/doc/rfc2131.txt dhcp-2.0pl5/doc/rfc2132.txt dhcp-2.0pl5/doc/rfc951.txt The license on RFC/I-Ds is not DFSG-free, see: * http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=199810 * http://release.debian.org/removing-non-free-documentation * http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments The etch release policy says binary and source packages must each be free: * http://release.debian.org/etch_rc_policy.txt The severity is serious, because this violates the Debian policy: * http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-archive.html#s-dfsg There are (at least) three ways to fix this problem. In order of preference: 1. Ask the author of the RFC to re-license the RFC under a free license. A template for this e-mail request can be found at http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments 2. Remove the non-free material from the source, e.g., by re-packaging the upstream archive and adding a 'dfsg' version name to it. 3. Move the package to non-free. I went over many packages looking for names of likely non-free files, and there may be false positives. If this is the case for your package, I'm sorry for the noise. I'll modify the scripts to take into account false positives when I learn of them, and publish the list of exceptions under Known exceptions at http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments. Bug#429193: Uploaded ipplan
Hi Jan, thanks for your bugreport. There is allready a bug (429193) open about the issue. A bugfix is available at http://ftp.cyconet.org/debian/archive/official/ipplan/4.85-2/ipplan_4.85-2. dsc, but waiting for my sponsor. Since the debconf takes place and the package is not in stable, I don't feel any pressure at the moment. Anyways, if anybody is willing to upload the package, feel free to do so. Since I'm interested in getting those copies of phpmailer out of the archive as soon as possible, I've uploaded your fix now. Thanks for your work! Thijs pgpOYNXCjGpxW.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#426642: marked as done (FLAC 1.1.4 is coming, library transition imminent)
Your message dated Sun, 17 Jun 2007 20:47:07 + with message-id [EMAIL PROTECTED] and subject line Bug#427743: fixed in flac123 0.0.9-5 has caused the attached Bug report to be marked as done. Please contact me immediately.) Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: flac123 Version: 0.0.9-4 Severity: normal Hi, This is to let you know I've gotten around to packaging FLAC 1.1.4. As you may know, this involves not only the usual SONAME change from libflac7 - libflac8 libflac++5 - libflac++6 but also liboggflac* have been removed, and merged into the main FLAC library, so there are lots of API considerations involved with that. You're receiving this bug because your package depends on one or more of libflac7, libflac++5, liboggflac3, or liboggflac++2. By now your upstream sources have transitioned, or at least made #ifdef style provisions for this new API, especially if your package depends on liboggflac*. If not, Josh Coalson, the upstream maintainer of FLAC, has prepared a fairly extensive transition guide on the FLAC web site in case you want to have a go at making the transition yourself. (What a dedicated maintainer!): http://flac.sourceforge.net/api/group__porting.html If you're ready to build against 1.1.4, please download binary packages or build them from source from here: http://people.debian.org/~joshk/ i386 and amd64 are available on that page. Well, this is a small-time library transition. So this is probably the only message you'll see about this. I plan to upload 1.1.4 tomorrow evening if there are no concerns raised about the sanity of this transition, and you will have until the package clears NEW to prepare. Once it hits unstable, you should upload your package on the same day to mitigate uninstallable packages. (But if anyone complains, tell them that they're using unstable, and should live with it.) Oh, and sorry for the belated transition -- I've been quite busy with school. Anyway, let me know if there are any problems. -- Joshua Kwan ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: flac123 Source-Version: 0.0.9-5 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of flac123, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: flac123_0.0.9-5.diff.gz to pool/main/f/flac123/flac123_0.0.9-5.diff.gz flac123_0.0.9-5.dsc to pool/main/f/flac123/flac123_0.0.9-5.dsc flac123_0.0.9-5_i386.deb to pool/main/f/flac123/flac123_0.0.9-5_i386.deb A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached.
