Apparently, cdebconf and udpkg were built on a system where libd-i
0.52 was installed as this does not happen on other arches.

An upload of libdebian-installer 0.52 is on its way and should close
this issue.

Bug#423006: Bugs merged

2007-06-30 Thread Guido Trotter

Hi!

I've reassigned the bug we had against xen to initramfs-tools, as it is, as
reported, the same bug, and being a bug with the image generation we can't do
anything on our side about it.

Also I re-raised the severity to critical because, as stated by the severity
description, this bug makes unrelated software on the system (or the whole
system) break. Namely it breaks xen, or whole systems with xen installed.

Feel free to lower its severity if you think this is inappropriate, but please
provide a reason, so I can know why I am mistaken! :)

Thanks!!

Guido

Bug#431162: po4a loops indefinitely while parsing options

Package: po4a
Version: 0.31-1
Severity: grave

Hi,

By specifying opt:-o untranslated=rn,'',bd,rm -o groff_code=verbatim,
po4a loops indefinitely in split_opts().
This can be tested with the glibc translations in manpages-fr-extra,
which now FTBFS due to this problem.

Bug#430933: collectd_4.0.3-1(hppa/experimental): FTBFS: tries to mix -fPIC and non -fPIC

Policy 10.2 requires static libraries not to be built with -fPIC. This does
not seem to work on 64bit archs though (is hppa a 64bit architecture)? This
problem has already been reported (see #358637).

I'm not quite sure yet if that's a general problem on non 32bit architectures.
In that case the policy should be changed in this respect. I need to do
 further investigations before.

To temporarily work around this issue, I will disable the plugins causing that
kind of problems on hppa (as I'm already doing on other 64bit architectures).

You can build static libraries without -fPIC just fine, you just can link
it together with another object that is compiled with -fPIC. The correct
solution for this is to have a version of the static library compiled with
-fPIC in addition to the one compiled without. We had this in the past for e.g.
xlibs,
don't know what a current example would be.

i386 doesn't seem to care about the PIC/non-PIC thing, I'm not
toolchain expert enough to tell why. hppa on the other hand is very
picky about it (it is a 32bit architecture, BTW, at least in userland)

Gruesse,

Bug#430801: texmacs: Missing font

2007-06-30 Thread Портон Виктор Львович
tags unreproducible
thanks

I am unable to reproduce your bug.

 $ TEXMACS_PATH=/usr/lib/texmacs/TeXmacs/
 GUILE_LOAD_PATH=/usr/share/texmacs/TeXmacs/progs

Is there any specific reason as to why you are setting this variable?
What happens when you run texmacs without setting these variables?

Strange, but I myself now cannot reproduce the bug.
/usr/bin/texmacs now successfully runs without setting any env.

texmacs should run fine without setting any of these variables. I am
able to run texmacs without setting any of these variables (on sid)
and it runs without any crashes.

{/home/porton/.TeXmacs/fonts/virtual:/usr/lib/texmacs/TeXmacs/fonts/virtual}/larm.vfn
not
 readable in 'load_string'

I am not sure what larm.vfn is

$ sudo apt-file update
$ sudo apt-file search larm.vfn

Did not give any results. So larm.vfn is not available in Debian. Did
you install some third party software?

No third party fonts related to this installed.

 Hi,

the new cpio version is released under GPL 3, but debian/copyright
still says it's under GPL 2. You need to update the file and include
the complete GPL 3 text, as long as base-files does not contain it.

actually not: it's only a requirement if the packagers choose (as is
likely but not certain) to upgrade to the new version. At that point,
the packagers would as a matter of course(*) change the documentation
to reflect the new source.

(*) one would assume, though I've noted incorrect licenses on this
mailing list in the past which were ignored by the package maintainer.

(there's nothing new about this situation)

   At that point,
the packagers would as a matter of course(*) change the documentation
  to reflect the new source.

Well, that's just what I wanted to say.

(*) one would assume, though I've noted incorrect licenses on this
mailing list in the past which were ignored by the package maintainer.

 Which mailing list?

Bug#431131: cmigrep: broken emacsen-install script

cmigrep's emacsen-install script is overzealous; specifically, it
inappropriately attempts to compile all .el files in
/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp even if they don't work with the current
emacsen flavor (for instance, remembrance-agent's remem.el
vs. xemacs), and compounds the problem by removing
/usr/share/$FLAVOR/site-lisp/*.el, which may contain files belonging
to other packages (for instance, auctex's tex-site.el).

Wow, I have no idea how this could happen, in particular the rm *.el.
I hope I didn't cause too much damage. Fixed and uploaded with
urgency=high.

Best Regards -Ralf.

Package: cmigrep
Version: 1.3-1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

cmigrep's emacsen-install script is overzealous; specifically, it
inappropriately attempts to compile all .el files in
/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp even if they don't work with the current
emacsen flavor (for instance, remembrance-agent's remem.el
vs. xemacs), and compounds the problem by removing
/usr/share/$FLAVOR/site-lisp/*.el, which may contain files belonging
to other packages (for instance, auctex's tex-site.el).

Could you please rein it int to compile only cmigrep.el, with none of
the path.el business (which is also unnecessary)?

I'd also recommend running $FLAVOR with -no-site-file to avoid loading
unnecessary startup files, which wastes time and generates noise (but
at least isn't actually harmful).

(The emacsen-remove script is already correct, at least.)

Thanks!

Sorry, I do not understand this: Whom do you refer to as packagers?
  If you mean the upstream authors, they _have_ just switched to GPL 3;

no, he does not. He has a valid license for the 2.9 source.

Yes, and that license is the GPL 3, see
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/info-gnu/2007-06/msg00024.html .
That's what I am talking about.

Discussed in http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2007/05/msg01173.html

With glibc-2.5 and gcc-4.1.2 (and gcc-4.2), the 'long double'
data type did change from a 64bit representation to a 128bit
representation on alpha, powerpc, sparc, s390. To allow
partial upgrades of packages, we will need to rename all
packages holding libraries with the long double data type in
their API. Both libc and libstdc++ do not need to be renamed,
because they support both representations. We rename the library
packages on all architectures to avoid name mismatches between
architectures (you can avoid the renaming by supporting both
datatype representations in the library as done in glibc and
libstdc++, but unless a library is prepared for that, it does not
seem to be worth the effort).

It is suggested to rename a package libfoo1 to libfoo1ldbl;
please wait with the renaming if the package depends on
another library package which needs renaming.

This package has been indentified as one with header files in
/usr/include matching 'long *double'. Please close this bug report
if it is a false positive, or rename the package accordingly.

This looks like your installation of texmacs is not complete or not
done properly. The texmacs.bin file is in
/usr/lib/texmacs/TeXmacs/bin/texmacs.bin . Do you have anything there?
If not, please reinstall texmacs and see if the problem goes away.

On my system I have

$dpkg -S /usr/lib/texmacs/TeXmacs/bin/texmacs.bin
texmacs: /usr/lib/texmacs/TeXmacs/bin/texmacs.bin

This is not a good work around. The correct way to solve this is to
purge and reinstall texmacs properly.

Recently libcurl4 has been replaced with libcurl3 in unstable.
This results in nexuiz being not installable.

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:

sure I can fix this, but are you really sure. I just builded the

Bug#431129: wordnet: FTBFS: undeclared build-dependency on man-db

2007-06-30 Thread Aaron M. Ucko
Andreas Tille [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

sure I can fix this, but are you really sure. I just builded the
package in pbuilder. Does this mean that pbuilder is broken if it
did not ask for man-db? Is this perhaps a pbuilder bug?

More likely an artifact of continuing to use a chroot you initially
created a long time ago:

debootstrap supports two [relevant] modes of operation: regular and
--variant=buildd. (There's also a --variant=fakechroot.) The regular
mode is designed to set up base systems for direct human use, and
therefore pulls in Priority: important packages such as man-db in
addition to essential and Priority: required packages; the buildd
mode, however, merely pulls in required and (build-)essential
packages, leaving out man-db.

The autobuilders use the latter setup, as do recently created pbuilder
chroots (at least with the default configuration); however, if you
created your chroot years ago and have merely been incrementally
updating it since, it is likely to contain extraneous installations of
Priority: important packages (not to mention older compiler versions
and other cruft, due to the absence of any form of garbage collection).

BTW, I will have low bandwidth connection until Thursday - if you need
the fix soon - feel free to NMU.

Thanks, but I don't need it too urgently, so I'm content to wait for
an MU.

ardour should not build sources that are available from other packages!!

I see you guys broke this to workaround bugreport #425507. The issue
reported by the user should be tracked down to the system broken library
and fixed there, instead of hiding the problem by using ardours own
buggy copies of libraries.

BTW, Having a serious bugreport open for several weeks without bothering
to even reply to the bugreport does not really count as great
maintaining.

2007-06-30 Thread Ludovic Drolez
Although I'd like to reassign this bug back to swish-e again I'm not
doing so for now until some consensus is reached.

The best would be to send a mail to the upstream swish-e dev, because I
would not like to break other software based on the official usptream

 haskell-src-exts (0.2.1~darcs20070622-1) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * Built against GHC 6.6.1 (Closes: #429022)
   * New upstream darcs snapshot release:
 - Added line pragmas to output.
 - Added FFI support.
 - Added support for infix types.
 - Added mdo support.
 - Added support for foralls type definition.
   * The debian build system is replaced with the build system of
haskell-edison which also generates multiple GHC libraries.
 The advantages are:
 - No need to use haskell-devscripts which is not really suited for
multiple GHC libraries in one build.
 - No need to hardcode the version number in the debian/rules file.
 - No need to create links to the debian directory in the
   subdirectories.
 - Build with --enable-split-objs on i386 and amd64 which should result
   in smaller binaries.
   * debian/control:
 - Drop haskell-devscripts from the Build-Depends and add dctrl-tools
which is need by the debian/mk-haskell-depends script.
 - Add myself to the Uploaders field.
 - Add X-Vcs-Svn and X-Vcs-Browser fields.
   * debian/{runcompiler,buildmod.sh}: Removed. No longer necessary.
   * debian/{postinst.in,prerm.in,ghc6.in,ghc6-pkg6.in,mk-haskell-depends}:
Added. Needed for the new debian/rules file

Bug#431029: NMU patch for libapt-front

2007-06-30 Thread Marc 'HE' Brockschmidt
Heya,

As libapt-front is one of the packages blocking the apt transition,
fixing this bug was rather important. Please excuse my evil 0-day NMU,
I've tried to touch as few bits as possible. The new file list in
po/POTFILES was generated with
 find apt-front/ -name \*.h -or -name \*.cpp

Besides removing missing files, this added three new files to the list:
+apt-front/gettext.h
+apt-front/updater.cpp
+apt-front/updater.h

The diff is more ugly because it changes the order of the files and I
forgot to do it nicer before starting pdebuild on this slow machine.

Anyway, patch attached.

Marc

Bug#422841: How much of use is gtkmm2.0 anymore?

This appears to be the only package needing porting to gtkmm2.4.
videolink appears to be original code by the maintainer, so porting
 shouldn't be a issue.

I'm not sure why I used gtkmm2.0 for this, since even sarge has
gtkmm2.4. I expect that I can make it work with gtkmm2.4 fairly
quickly.

I just upgraded to nvidia-glx version 100.14.09-1, with
xserver-xorg-core at 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-6, and everything seems to be
working fine.

Package: libapache-dbilogger-perl
Severity: serious
Version: 0.93-9

Hi there!

Due to the recent removal of apache (including it's accompanied
packages of apache-common, apache-dbg, apache-dev, apache-doc,
apache-perl and apache-ssl) and libapache-mod-perl your package most
propably isn't able to get installed or built anymore. These are the
problems your package currently has:

libapache-dbilogger-perl (dependency): libapache-mod-perl

Please either send the ftp team a removal request for your package if
it isn't able to work with apache2, or update it to build (only)
packages for apache2.

 Thanks in advance,

gregor herrmann dijo [Sat, Jun 30, 2007 at 03:41:27PM +0200]:
It doesn't in its current state. Please upload a package that does
_not_ depend on libapache-mod-perl anymore which isn't fulfillable and
the reason for this very bug, and close it in the changelog, thanks.

 That was my plan too:

 libapache-dbilogger-perl (0.93-10) unstable; urgency=low

   * Change (build) dependency from libapache-mod-perl to libapache2-mod-perl2
 (closes: #429106).

 It's only Gunnar's upload that's missing ;-)

Whoops! I saw your changelog and thought somebody had already uploaded
it :)

Done.

Bug#429764: Followup on bug#429764 -- clamav-freshclam asks for password during dpkg configure

2007-06-30 Thread Jesse Molina

This bug can be closed. This is actually a problem of su not being able
to run as root without a password.

This is either a su or PAM bug, or I have some kind of misconfiguration
on my system. I imagine that a lot of people would be upset if this was
a wider problem, so it's probably something specific to my system.

my /etc/pam.d/su file is correctly configured, but it seems that it's
not being respected. I'm troubleshooting it now.

Thanks for the help. Again, please close this bug. This is not a clam
problem.

The only way we could have gotten to this point is if somehow

how it goes when it is executable?

Thanks,
