Bug#425803: #425803 [FIXED 2007-11]: upgrade fails ... (still fails here)
A. Costa [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Which packages are these, (some or all)? And what if I need them, do I reinstall only to fail again? Thanks for the advice, though I'm not a fan of the try this school of help; in the long run it's better to know the reason why something should work, why it fails, or how it's supposed to work, what it does. Definitely. So here's a short explanation: Some files below /etc/texmf used to be conffiles long ago and were later dropped or moved elsewhere (at least for etch, if not sarge). Due to the handling of removed conffiles in older dpkg versions, they would still hang around on such old and updated installations. Therefore the postrm script of tetex-base in etch has code to remove those obsolete conffiles upon purge, so that after removal and purging of tetex-base in etch, /etc/texmf should be empty. Now the problem is that in the packages of texlive_2007, some of these files are again conffiles at the exact same places. We have solved this problem by creating an updated tetex-base package which does not remove those files upon purge. However, if the package is already in state rc (removed, but conffiles still installed), then the update won't reach it. This might happen to some users of sid and testing. The consequence is that if someone purges tetex-base after upgrading to texlive_2007, these conffiles are removed. For some of these files, this results in failed format generation. And now comes a correction to what I wrote earlier: The packages in sid and lenny which provide these files already have a fix included in their postinst: The strictly necessary files will always be resurrected, even if --force-confmiss is not given. On your system, texlive-base-bin failed to configure because modes.mf is missing. modes.mf is provided by texlive-base. Now there's a new problem: texlive-base depends on texlive-base-bin. Therefore its postinst script (which would resurrect modes.mf) will not be run until texlive-base-bin's was successful, but that won't happen until modes.mf is present - a circle. To break the circle, you can run dpkg -i --force-depends /var/cache/apt/archives/texlive-base_2007-10_all.deb which will resurrect modes.mf. After that, either dpkg tries to configure tl-base-bin itself (I'm not sure, but I don't think so with force-depends), or you can run dpkg --configure -a. Do you remember when you purged tetex-base and which texlive packages you installed afterwards? We should really make sure that this won't happen upon normal upgrades... Bug#427406: metacity: No more mouse/keyboard-input possible, after closing crashed application
I somehow resist the possibility of making my system unstable again, since everything else works fine with Testing and upgrading to 2.18.3 didn't help. Additionally, I noticed no hint showing that this problem was solved with never versions. Some search work at http://bugzilla.gnome.org shows no similar report, and as it is unreproducible anywhere, there's no reason for the upstream or Debian maintainer to address such bug, which doesn't prevent the possibility for the bug's silent disappearance either. Moreover, there's no difficulty to downgrade back to 2.14.5 if something still goes wrong. Finally, as the only one encountering this bug, only you can tell whether 2.18.5 is ok. So why not give it a shot? :) P.S.: No offense, but I really doubt such a problem is necessary to be set as grave severity. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#434225: probably broken libtool
Adam Cécile (Le_Vert) [EMAIL PROTECTED] (23/07/2007): Hi, Hi, [yeah, let's forget about honouring the Reply-To, that's considered a good practice (#434149). Anyway, submitter added back in Cc.] I don't know at all why lates ntfs-3g release failed to build on amd64. [...] I would say it looks like being a buildd issue... No, reproducible in a sid chroot. What's your mind ? I'd say it's a libtool issue. You can install libtool, run e.g. libtoolize -c -f, then autoreconf to update your autotools stuff, then `make' runs successfully. Umh... I'm failing to reproduce this bug under a pbuilder in amd64... HTML::Entities is not mentioned in this modules' source - maybe it's a missing dependency on some of this package's build dependencies? (looking into it...) This module build-depends on libmodule-build-perl, libhtml-mason-perl, libparams-callbackrequest-perl, libclass-container-perl and libtest-pod-perl. HTML::Entities is provided by libhtml-parser-perl. libhtml-mason-perl _does_ mention several times HTML::Entities in its source, and libhtml-parser-perl is _not_ mentioned either as build dependency or dependency - It builds correctly mainly because some tests are conditionally skipped, but I do think libhtml-parser-perl should be added at the very least as a runtime dependency for libhtml-mason-perl, as part of its functionality depends on it (i.e. HTML::Mason::Escapes starts by stating use HTML::Entities - It would just not work without this dependency - exactly what happens in this case!) ...I'm still puzzled on why libmasonx-interp-withcallbacks-perl builds correctly under my pbuilder :) -- Gunnar Wolf - [EMAIL PROTECTED] - (+52-55)5623-0154 / 1451-2244 PGP key 1024D/8BB527AF 2001-10-23 Fingerprint: 0C79 D2D1 2C4E 9CE4 5973 F800 D80E F35A 8BB5 27AF pgptbxU6E7u6b.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#433940: semantic: postinst failure
Hello, I could reproduce this bug, but only when I updated semantic only, eg. when I updated cedet-common, eieio and ede, the semantic was configurable again. Can you reproduce the bug with these packages on their unstable versions? Or, can you run dpkg-reconfigure semantic right now? If it is only caused by version mismatch, this could be easily solved by Conflicts: or versioned Depends: Regards Jiri Palecek -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#434358: cl-sql - arch-any without need
Bastian Blank wrote: An arch-any dependency is no reason to make a package also arch-any. There's a clear reason below. Whether you agree with the reason is a separate issue. Packages are only moved into testing if they are up-to-date. That's true. However, the change I made fixed a bug for a sid user where the all package was uninstallable because the dependant any package was not built by the autobuilder because of some lengthy delay. With the change I made, now sid will always have the correct packages at all times. Having that consistent working in sid is worth something. A certain subset of users may in fact prefer it over the standard driver, since it gives greater flexibility over the modes the driver can use. In the not too distant future (2007) the modesetting changes are likely to be merged back into the main stable i810 driver, at which point this package will become redundant. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (990, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18 Locale: LANG=en_AU.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_AU.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages xserver-xorg-video-i810-modesetting depends on: ii libc62.3.6.ds1-7 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii xserver-xorg-core2:1.1.1-10 X.Org X server -- core server xserver-xorg-video-i810-modesetting recommends no packages. ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- I am closing these bugs since xserver-xorg-video-i810-modesetting has been removed from the archive and they do not apply to xserver-xorg-video-intel. Bug#433127: system unbootable after update to linux-image-2.6.21-2
I have found an easy way to fix this problem on the following webpage : http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?p=85884sid=253f85fa345866026fbf582e1c54e2b3 Basically you just need to change every 'sda' to 'hda' in your /etc/fstab file, and also in the entries for the new kernel in your /boot/grub/menu.lst (I just changed the root=hda1 into root=sda1 in mine and it works, I didn't change the 'root(hd0,0)' line). I have not changed the cdrom device as it is said on the forum, and I have no problem using it. Cheers! Matthieu

Anyway, submitter added back in Cc.] I don't know at all why lates ntfs-3g release failed to build on amd64. [...] I would say it looks like being a buildd issue... No, reproducible in a sid chroot. Note that in /usr/lib, I have those files: libfuse.la:dependency_libs=' -lrt -lselinux' libulockmgr.la:dependency_libs=' -lselinux' This means that libfuse-dev should have a Depends on libselinux-dev, which it doesn't. It also seems that fuse doesn't even have a Build-Depends on and the maintainer uploaded it on amd64, linked to libselinux1, which is why you don't see it on the other arches. So that would be 2 problems in the fuse source packages. What's your mind ? I'd say it's a libtool issue. You can install libtool, run e.g. libtoolize -c -f, then autoreconf to update your autotools stuff, then `make' runs successfully. This will get you the Debian version of libtool, which will avoid using the dependency_libs in that case. Which is a good thing. But this bug really is one in fuse, so I'm reassigning it. Kurt

It has sources for 1.x and 2.x in the same source package. If nobody disagrees, I'll take it over, modify it to build the 2.x version as libapache2-mod-auth-radius. I can probably get it done for a first upload by the end of the day. I've got the package ready. Just say the word :) Hi Josip, I am good if you want to take over the package 100%. Just make sure that the module actually works. Last time I checked I couldn't get a2 to auth with radius for some reasons I was never able to debug. Reported by Adrian Irving-Beer. This also changes the return code from HTML::Mason::CGIHandler-handle_request() for two of the test cases. Before HTML::Mason 1.36, it happened to be 1 from HTML::Mason::FakeApache::send_http_header(). Now the return code is 'undef', because t/htdocs/dhandler does not have an explicit 'return' statement [1]. The suggested fix is to add an explicit 'return 200' (ie. HTTP OK) into t/htdocs/dhandler. This keeps the tests compatible with both the old and the new HTML::Mason versions (on 1.35, send_http_header() turns 200 into 1, ie. still true.) Trivial patch attached. BTW, Gunnar: your 'cache_self_expire_in' test failure comes from the libhtml-mason-perl tests, not libmasonx-interp-withcallbacks-perl. I can't reproduce it myself, though. Can you? [1] The actual code that gets eval()'d from the component is generated by HTML::Mason::Compiler::ToObject, which puts an explicit void 'return;' at the end (see the _body() routine) and thus always returns 'undef'.
