Bug#441405: #441405: Several Firebird vulnerabilities discovered
tags 441405 pending thanks Hi, Thijs, Thanks for taking time to follow security bulletins and reporting these issues. All these are supposed to be fixed in the 2.0.3 release, which I am preparing upload of. I'll use urgency=medium instead of high because of two reasons: 1) this is new upstream release (although minor) 2) it is actually a pre-release, that is expected to be released without changes unless severe problems appear Now, why not 2.0.2 then? Because there were a bad regression in it. 2.0.3 is released just to fix this. All the issues are present in the 1.5 series (source package firebird2 in etch, source package firebird1.5 in lenny/sid), but fixing them is not possible. There are other security issues with 1.5 series (#438855) and fixing these is very hard as upstream no longer supports them and backporting patches is impossible due to the severe changes between 1.5 and 2.0. Because of the above, 1.5 series are pending removal from Debian (see #438862) -- damJabberID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Severity was set to serious indirectly by the cloned bug's severity. While the severity against ghc seemed fine, I think it's unlikely that the dpkg part of the bug is considered serious, now that the report is more than 2 months old and there are no reports of other people experiencing the bug, or reports of the bug with other packages than ghc, which appears fixed. There were 2 problems in the original bug report, and I consider both RC. The ghc one has been fixed/worked around in an other package that generated the maintainer scripts. The dpkg one is one that should be easy to reproduce, I just didn't see anybody try or suggest that it's not a problem, or that it has been fixed. OK. Nevertheless, I'm not convinced that this bug is release-critical, so I'm downgrading to important again. Sorry but that you are convinced or not does not matter, you should not be changing the severity in the first place for a package you are not maintaining, (you are not part of the release team either, nor the bug submitter). Do not upgrade the severity to serious again, as this bug is not a policy violation, unless you have evidence that the dpkg maintainance team considers it serious. Feel free to ask the maintainers to upgrade the severity to serious. I'd appreciate if you stop messing with the bug reports status w/o prior consent. Feel free to send comments to the bugs, though. regards, guillem

At the moment dynagen is built on all architectures, but is uninstallable in all of them but i386. The easiest way to do this is to change the Architecture: any line in debian/control to Architecture: i386. Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: firebird2.0 Severity: grave Tags: security Hi, Several new vulnerabilities have been discovered and fixed in Firebird. The following are reported: CVE-2007-3527: Integer overflow in Firebird 2.0.0 allows remote authenticated users to cause a denial of service (CPU consumption) via certain database operations with multi-byte character sets that trigger an attempt to use the value 65536 for a 16-bit integer, which is treated as 0 and causes an infinite loop on zero-length data. CVE-2007-4664: Unspecified vulnerability in the (1) attach database and (2) create database functionality in Firebird before 2.0.2, when a filename exceeds MAX_PATH_LEN, has unknown impact and attack vectors, aka CORE-1405. CVE-2007-4665: Unspecified vulnerability in the server in Firebird before 2.0.2 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (daemon crash) via an XNET session that makes multiple simultaneous requests to register events, aka CORE-1403. CVE-2007-4666: Unspecified vulnerability in the server in Firebird before 2.0.2, when a Superserver/TCP/IP environment is configured, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (CPU and memory consumption) via large network packets with garbage, aka CORE-1397. CVE-2007-4667: Unspecified vulnerability in the Services API in Firebird before 2.0.2 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service, aka CORE-1149. CVE-2007-4668: Unspecified vulnerability in the server in Firebird before 2.0.2 allows remote attackers to determine the existence of arbitrary files, and possibly obtain other file access, via unknown vectors, aka CORE-1312. CVE-2007-4669: The Services API in Firebird before 2.0.2 allows remote authenticated users without SYSDBA privileges to read the server log (firebird.log), aka CORE-1148. Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: libace-dev Severity: serious User: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Usertags: goal-ldbl128 Discussed in http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2007/05/msg01173.html With glibc-2.5 and gcc-4.1.2 (and gcc-4.2), the 'long double' data type did change from a 64bit representation to a 128bit representation on alpha, powerpc, sparc, s390. To allow partial upgrades of packages, we will need to rename all packages holding libraries with the long double data type in their API. Both libc and libstdc++ do not need to be renamed, because they support both representations. We rename the library packages on all architectures to avoid name mismatches between architectures (you can avoid the renaming by supporting both datatype representations in the library as done in glibc and libstdc++, but unless a library is prepared for that, it does not seem to be worth the effort). To allow partial upgrades of packages, we will need to rename all packages holding libraries with the long double data type in their API. Both libc and libstdc++ do not need to be renamed, because they support both representations. Your message dated Mon, 10 Sep 2007 13:52:33 + with message-id [EMAIL PROTECTED] and subject line Bug#430275: fixed in mpich 1.2.7-3 has caused the attached Bug report to be marked as done. This means that you claim that the problem has been dealt with. If this is not the case it is now your responsibility to reopen the Bug report if necessary, and/or fix the problem forthwith. (NB: If you are a system administrator and have no idea what I am talking about this indicates a serious mail system misconfiguration somewhere. Please contact me immediately.) Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: libmpich-mpd1.0-dev Severity: serious User: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Usertags: goal-ldbl128 Discussed in http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2007/05/msg01173.html With glibc-2.5 and gcc-4.1.2 (and gcc-4.2), the 'long double' data type did change from a 64bit representation to a 128bit representation on alpha, powerpc, sparc, s390. It is suggested to rename a package libfoo1 to libfoo1ldbl; please wait with the renaming if the package depends on another library package which needs renaming. This package has been indentified as one with header files in /usr/include matching 'long *double'. Please close this bug report if it is a false positive, or rename the package accordingly. ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: mpich Source-Version: 1.2.7-3 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of mpich, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: libmpich-mpd1.0-dev_1.2.7-3_amd64.deb to pool/main/m/mpich/libmpich-mpd1.0-dev_1.2.7-3_amd64.deb libmpich-mpd1.0ldbl_1.2.7-3_amd64.deb to pool/main/m/mpich/libmpich-mpd1.0ldbl_1.2.7-3_amd64.deb libmpich-shmem1.0-dev_1.2.7-3_amd64.deb to pool/main/m/mpich/libmpich-shmem1.0-dev_1.2.7-3_amd64.deb libmpich-shmem1.0ldbl_1.2.7-3_amd64.deb to pool/main/m/mpich/libmpich-shmem1.0ldbl_1.2.7-3_amd64.deb libmpich1.0-dev_1.2.7-3_amd64.deb to pool/main/m/mpich/libmpich1.0-dev_1.2.7-3_amd64.deb libmpich1.0ldbl_1.2.7-3_amd64.deb to pool/main/m/mpich/libmpich1.0ldbl_1.2.7-3_amd64.deb mpe-source_1.2.7-3_all.deb to pool/main/m/mpich/mpe-source_1.2.7-3_all.deb mpi-doc_1.2.7-3_all.deb to pool/main/m/mpich/mpi-doc_1.2.7-3_all.deb mpich-bin_1.2.7-3_amd64.deb to pool/main/m/mpich/mpich-bin_1.2.7-3_amd64.deb mpich-mpd-bin_1.2.7-3_amd64.deb to pool/main/m/mpich/mpich-mpd-bin_1.2.7-3_amd64.deb mpich-shmem-bin_1.2.7-3_amd64.deb to pool/main/m/mpich/mpich-shmem-bin_1.2.7-3_amd64.deb mpich_1.2.7-3.diff.gz to pool/main/m/mpich/mpich_1.2.7-3.diff.gz mpich_1.2.7-3.dsc to pool/main/m/mpich/mpich_1.2.7-3.dsc A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. Bug#441526: lmodern: updmap-sys failed.
Hi Lucas! On Mon, 10 Sep 2007, Lucas Nussbaum wrote: while trying to install build-dependencies for debian-history, I ran into this: But a second run of dpkg --configure -a did work, or not? I assume that there is a problem which we try to solve since quite some time: lmodern should be installable without the need to install a TeX package. In the postinst script it tries to check whether a tex package is installed, and if yes, then runs updmap-sys to make the fonts available for TeX. Now, it SEEMS to me that all the packages are unpacked, but texlive-base-bin and texlive-base is not configured. Our check is in principle whether kpsewhich --version /dev/null 21 succeeds (because that would mean that texlive-base-bin is installed and configured), and in addition whether updmap-sys is present. But in your case !!! ERROR! The map file `dvips35.map' has not been found at all. this is strange, because dvips35.map IS present, because texlive-base-bin is unpacked. It seems that the problem is that it cannot be FOUND by kpsewhich by the time updmap-sys is run. Unfortunately I cannot check this now, but if the problem STILL presist or you could repeat it, then it would be nice to have a set +x at the beginning of the updmap script (updmap-sys calls updmap).
