Yes. What do you think happen when a (regular upload's) changelog closes
a bug? That all archs are in sync?

> Shouldn't we just mark the bug as pending and let the bug be closed
> automatically with a close: #447667 in the changelog of the binNMU?

AFAICT, binNMU changelogs are informative and don't close any bugs.

Bug#451143: how is this grave?

2007-11-14 Thread Soeren Sonnenburg
I see that this is yet another bug of normal priority only.

You would help to fix it if you could provide a minimal html page that
includes the input field/javascript code and allows everyone to
reproduce the problem.

Package: azureus
Version: 3.0.3.4-1
Severity: grave
Tags: patch
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

The new version is looking for the "old" java libraries as it tries to source
/usr/share/java-config/libswt-3.2-java at line 3 of /usr/bin/azureus.

Just changing the number from 3.2 to 3.3 is enough. But this should be fixed
in the package.

I'm sending this bug as grave, since it means our users can't run azureus
properly.

Bug#451327: iceweasel: a running FF/IW steals new local and remote FF/IW instances

2007-11-14 Thread Paolo
Package: iceweasel
Version: N/A
Severity: grave

Seems that at some point, Mozilla has introduced a 'feature' that fixed the
'another instance of ... already running' issue, so that if you start another
instance of FF it won't complain, but simply it'd open another window of the
already running instance.
So far so good.
The bad news is that this happens with FF launched on a remote system as well,
which is *not* what's supposed to happen.
Here's a scenario:

L. local system: Sarge - stock FF1.5.0.12, FF2.0.0.8, SM1.1.5, Debian's FF.
R. remote system: Etch - same as above, except Debian's FF->IW .

1. On L, ssh -X into R
2.1. On L, start FF - any version
3.1  On R, start FF - any version: the window comes up surprisingly fast;
problem is, that's just another window of the locally running FF! ie
if FF1.5 is running on L, then 'iceweasel' on R opens FF1.5 again.

The converse is also true:

2.2 On R, start IW (or FF/SM)
3.2 On L, start FF (or SM): what you get is another window of the remote
IW/FF/SM.

FF/SM fails to check if the running instance on current $DISPLAY belong to
same host+binary it's being started from.
This has some obvious, and perhaps some not so obvious, security issues.

Bug#429177: I will upload this for you

2007-11-14 Thread Micah Anderson

Due to the security nature of this fix (resolves 3 CVEs), I am going to
upload this to the archive for you. I've changed the severity to high
and will upload the package immediately, please use severity 'high' on
all future security uploads.

In the future its probably best if there is a security issue in the
package to ask someone in the debian testing team to sponsor your upload
if you cannot.

Actually, Lenny *does* matter in terms of security, that is the whole

Bug#450696: phpbb3: login to admin control panel fails for fresh install

2007-11-14 Thread Marc-Etienne M.Léveillé
I had the same issue. I successfully resolved it by changing the line
2212 of /usr/share/phpbb3/www/includes/functions.php from
if (FALSE && $admin) # Debian/Thijs Kinkhorst: disable because this
does not work
to
  if ($admin)
I guess the 020_temp_ignore_admin_sessionkey.diff patch should not be
applied in the future.

Good luck, best regards

Marc-Etienne

Bug#447172: lirc-modules-source: More information

2007-11-14 Thread Matthew Gabeler-Lee
Package: lirc-modules-source
Version: 0.8.2-1
Followup-For: Bug #447172

I saw this problem too. It looks like it is including the
automake-generated makefile for drivers/Makefile, with no include to get the
kernel build rules. Items in debian/rules and elsewhere indicate that there
were in the past some hacks to temporarly switch makefiles for the kernel
module build, but somehow those have been partially lost, or are no longer
being called.

After much hunting through the package build, I noticed that
drivers/Makefile was missing a ton of lines compared to the upstream
distribution. I also I noticed this in the build output, just after running
configure:

##
/usr/src/lirc-build/lirc-0.8.2/missing: line 46: automake-1.6: command not
/found
WARNING: `automake-1.6' is missing on your system. You should only need it if
 you modified `Makefile.am', `acinclude.m4' or `configure.in'.
You might want to install the `Automake' and `Perl' packages.
Grab them from any GNU archive site.
cd .. && /bin/sh ./config.status drivers/Makefile
config.status: creating drivers/Makefile
##

Hmm ... what happens if I install automake-1.6 ... oh, hmm, automake is only
available in sarge!

What if I get the autogen.sh from lirc cvs and use it to recreate configure
and friends with a current automake ...

then applying patch 02_Makefile.in fails.

At any rate, I'm guessing the problem is related to recreating the makefiles
going wrong due to missing automake stuff, or automake running when it
shouldn't.

Bug#399724: sparc64: klibc segfaults again

2007-11-14 Thread Alan Atwood
I think Blars might be on to it here. My install is on a IIe, and the actual
message isn't segfault, it is "Illegal Instruction".

The machines I was trying to use were some old abandoned boxen at work. If I
can buy the 3 of them, I'll try to get a cross compiler working at home and
experiment. I might even be able to make 1 available to the sparc team for
testing, but I only have an ISDN line. That might not be very functional.

Sigh. The lintian warning "debian-rules-ignores-make-clean-error"

Same error on amd64, ia64, s390 and sparc buildds.

Package: librep-doc
Version: 0.17+svn20070119-5
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable (uninstallable)

librep-doc's post-installation script fails with the following messages:

AFAICT, this is because the line

This is librep.info, produced by makeinfo version 4.11 from librep.texi.

somehow wound up within the INFO-DIR-ENTRY block rather than above it
as in other files.

Bug#450907: xscreensaver: fireworxx shows live screen contents when xcompmgr is running

2007-11-14 Thread Jamie Zawinski

Obviously, fireworkx should not be showing a transparent background.

Equally obviously, this is not a bug in xscreensaver. It's a bug in
the X server, or in some lower layer like the video driver. You
should reassign this.

Is fireworkx the only OpenGL saver that provokes this bug?

AFAICT, this is because the line

This is librep.info, produced by makeinfo version 4.11 from librep.texi.

OK, thanks for finding these. Based on this, it's probably best to just
stick with ffcall for now, until we really need to switch to libffi (if
we ever need to).

I disagree - I think many people will use the screensaver's lock to
prevent other people from reading their screen if they step away.

Example: I'm discussing something with my boss over instant
message/irc/whatever. I lock my screen and go to the restroom. While I'm
away, my boss replies with some sensitive information. I have a
reasonable expectation that because my screensaver is locked, no one can
read this information except me, when I unlock it. However, while I was
in the restroom, the screensaver cycled to fireworxx and the message is
available for anyone passing by to read.

Normally the screensaver displays fireworks shooting, with a black
background. However, when xcompmgr is enabled, the background is instead
the display, with all applications running. It's not just a snapshot of
when the screensaver activated, any new events (popups, emails, instant
messages) are shown as well.

The current version of talksoup.app is uninstallable because it depends on
libgnustep-gui0.10 et al. It also can't be binNMUed because it
build-depends on gnustep-netclasses, which *also* can't be binNMUed for the
transition due to hard-coded dependencies, and the version of
gnustep-netclasses which fixes this has been renamed to
netclasses.framework.

Therefore talksoup.app needs to be updated to build-depend on
netclasses.framework for this transition.

If you think it is necessary, I can do it, if you can suggest a game or
grpahical application that does not need a complex setup. I download
it, play with it a minute, and then uninstall it.

Maybe it should be closed. As I was saying, the latest nvidia
proprietary driver does not exhibit any problem. It could have been a
bug on their part, which now they solved.

I do not understand when you say "over the live screen", what do you mean?

How does this affect in the security? When displays information?

Anyway, if this is a problem between X server and graphic drivers it
does have nothing to do with xscreensaver. Are you ok if I redirect this

Bug#451242: installaion fails if other web server is running

2007-11-14 Thread Bas Zoetekouw
Package: lighttpd
Version: 1.4.18-1
Severity: serious

When trying to install httpd with a runnign apache, I get this:

Setting up lighttpd (1.4.18-1) ...
Starting web server: lighttpd2007-11-14 13:31:18: (network.c.300) can't bind to

dpkg: error processing lighttpd (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 lighttpd
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

In this case, it is _correct_ behaviour that lighttpd doesn't start (I
want it to run at a different port), so the postinst should not
fail but rather just warn the user.

I am not really sure if this is a security issue. From my
point of view it is not the work of a screensaver to hide
content but to "save" the screen or to lock it.
Kind regards

Yes, it is. The old nvidia proprietary driver had no problems with the
old X server, but crashes the new one when GL is used. The new nvidia
proprietary driver does not exhibit the problem.

>Try another 3D acceleration app please, just to be sure.

I do not use any, apart from those in xscreensaver-gl. I tried the
small demo glxgears. If you think this is not enough, can you please
suggest something else to try out?

Bug#451230: linux-image-2.6-s390 / qeth - HSI-interface doesn't come up after reboot

2007-11-14 Thread Joachim Krais

Package: linux-image-2.6-s390
Version: 2.6.18
Severity: grave

Hello together,

we downloaded Debian4.0 and Debian4.0R1 and detected a bug with the
network-interface. This bug exists in both releases.
We use it on zSeries [architecture is s390].

The problem:

If we reboot the system, the HSI network-interface won't automatically
come up. We have to set them up manually in z/VM with
echo 1 /sys/bus/ccwgroup/drivers/qeth/"VIRTUAL_ADR_OF_DEVICE"/online
and modify the default-route, IP-address of the network-interface and
reload the ssh daemon. Now we can connect again with putty.

Our solution is a workaround:
=
We append /etc/init.d/network with the echo command at following
position:
### END INIT INFO

PATH="/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin"

### Our workaround
echo 1 > /sys/bus/ccwgroup/drivers/qeth/"VIRTUAL_ADR_OF_DEVICE"/online

[ -x /sbin/ifup ] || exit 0

Now the qeth Device comes up at (re)boot automatically and
we can connect with putty to the server.

Our question:
=
Is it possible to fix this problem? We use a lot of z/Linux servers with
more than one network-interface and our workaround is not very efficient ;-)

Thanks a lot!
Joachim Krais

hello,

i tried doing what was written above :

 cat /path/to/default-x-server.template >>
/var/lib/dpkg/info/xserver-xorg.templates

but it continued failing, and finally did not work for me. the
solution was to copy a backup xorg.conf file to /etc/X11/.

Bug#451215: Source package contains non-free IETF RFC/I-D

2007-11-14 Thread Simon Josefsson
Severity: serious
Package: liblayout
Version: 0.2.6-2
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: nonfree-doc rfc

Hi!

This source package contains the following files from the
IETF under non-free license terms:

+ liblayout-0.2.6/resource/rfc1345.txt

The license on RFC/I-Ds is not DFSG-free, see:
 * http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=199810
 * http://release.debian.org/removing-non-free-documentation
 * http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

The etch release policy says binary and source packages must each be free:
 * http://release.debian.org/etch_rc_policy.txt

The severity is serious, because this violates the Debian policy:
 * http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-archive.html#s-dfsg

There are (at least) three ways to fix this problem. In order of
preference:

1. Ask the author of the RFC to re-license the RFC under a free
license. A template for this e-mail request can be found at
   http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

2. Remove the non-free material from the source, e.g., by re-packaging
the upstream archive and adding 'dfsg' to the Debian package
   version name.

3. Move the package to non-free.

General discussions are kindly requested to take place on debian-legal
or debian-devel in the thread with Subject: "Non-free IETF RFC/I-Ds in
source packages".

Thanks,
Simon

Description:
uruk - Very small firewall script, for configuring iptables
Closes: 441659
Changes:
 uruk (20071101-1) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * New upstream release. Missed 20071030, which introduced:
 - no longer try to support non-ascii characters in .txt manpages
   (Closes: #441659)
 - If you're using hook scripts (by setting $rc_a, $rc_b, ... or $rc_i
in your uruk rc file), you might be hit by an incompatibility. See
upstream NEWS file (in /usr/share/doc/uruk/NEWS) for details.
 - The uruk init script now is (should be) Linux Standards Base v 3.1.0
   compliant.
See upstream NEWS file for other changes and new features in the 20071030
 and 20071101 releases.
   * debian/copyright: no longer GPL v2, but v3 (or higher). Add MIT
license for Fred Vos's XML stuff in contrib/.
   * debian/rules: do not ignore error from "make distclean". (Thanks
 lintian).
   * debian/rules: compress NEWS.Debian (Thanks lintian).
   * debian/control: Standards-Version compliancy upgraded from 3.6.2.0 to
 3.7.2 (no further changes needed).

Bug#451224: linux-kernel-headers: qeth - HSI-interface doesn't come up after reboot

2007-11-14 Thread Joachim Krais

Package: linux-kernel-headers

PATH="/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin"

### Our workaround
echo 1 > /sys/bus/ccwgroup/drivers/qeth/"VIRTUAL_ADR_OF_DEVICE"/online

[ -x /sbin/ifup ] || exit 0

Now the qeth Device comes up at (re)boot automatically and
we can connect with putty to the server.

Our question:
=
Is it possible to fix this problem? We use a lot of z/Linux servers with
more than one network-interface and our workaround is not very efficient :-)

Thanks a lot!
Joachim Krais

Or rather being constructive, instead of whining and ranting, by
finding a DD willing to sponsor my up-to-date package.
