Bug#451647: debian/copyright and actual copyrights

Bug#451748: acpi-support-base: trying to overwrite `/usr/share/acpi-support/policy-funcs', which is also in package acpi-support

Please, add a Replace/Conflict as needed. Thanks for reporting. Raphael, I've committed a potential fix which adds a few conflicts. I'm hoping this will get the package managers to do the right thing -- uninstall all acpi-support before installing the new versions. Do you think this will work? To allow partial upgrades of packages, we will need to rename all packages holding libraries with the long double data type in their API. Both libc and libstdc++ do not need to be renamed, because they support both representations. We rename the library packages on all architectures to avoid name mismatches between architectures (you can avoid the renaming by supporting both datatype representations in the library as done in glibc and libstdc++, but unless a library is prepared for that, it does not seem to be worth the effort). It is suggested to rename a package libfoo1 to libfoo1ldbl; please wait with the renaming if the package depends on another library package which needs renaming. This package has been indentified as one with header files in /usr/include matching 'long *double'. Please close this bug report if it is a false positive, or rename the package accordingly. ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: omniorb4 Source-Version: 4.1.0-1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of omniorb4, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: libcos4-1-dbg_4.1.0-1_amd64.deb to pool/main/o/omniorb4/libcos4-1-dbg_4.1.0-1_amd64.deb libcos4-1_4.1.0-1_amd64.deb to pool/main/o/omniorb4/libcos4-1_4.1.0-1_amd64.deb libcos4-dev_4.1.0-1_amd64.deb to pool/main/o/omniorb4/libcos4-dev_4.1.0-1_amd64.deb libomniorb4-1-dbg_4.1.0-1_amd64.deb to pool/main/o/omniorb4/libomniorb4-1-dbg_4.1.0-1_amd64.deb libomniorb4-1_4.1.0-1_amd64.deb to pool/main/o/omniorb4/libomniorb4-1_4.1.0-1_amd64.deb libomniorb4-dev_4.1.0-1_amd64.deb to pool/main/o/omniorb4/libomniorb4-dev_4.1.0-1_amd64.deb libomnithread3-dev_4.1.0-1_amd64.deb to pool/main/o/omniorb4/libomnithread3-dev_4.1.0-1_amd64.deb libomnithread3c2-dbg_4.1.0-1_amd64.deb to pool/main/o/omniorb4/libomnithread3c2-dbg_4.1.0-1_amd64.deb libomnithread3c2_4.1.0-1_amd64.deb to pool/main/o/omniorb4/libomnithread3c2_4.1.0-1_amd64.deb omniidl4_4.1.0-1_amd64.deb to pool/main/o/omniorb4/omniidl4_4.1.0-1_amd64.deb omniorb4-doc_4.1.0-1_all.deb to pool/main/o/omniorb4/omniorb4-doc_4.1.0-1_all.deb omniorb4-idl_4.1.0-1_all.deb to pool/main/o/omniorb4/omniorb4-idl_4.1.0-1_all.deb omniorb4-nameserver_4.1.0-1_amd64.deb to pool/main/o/omniorb4/omniorb4-nameserver_4.1.0-1_amd64.deb omniorb4_4.1.0-1.diff.gz to pool/main/o/omniorb4/omniorb4_4.1.0-1.diff.gz omniorb4_4.1.0-1.dsc to pool/main/o/omniorb4/omniorb4_4.1.0-1.dsc omniorb4_4.1.0-1_amd64.deb to pool/main/o/omniorb4/omniorb4_4.1.0-1_amd64.deb omniorb4_4.1.0.orig.tar.gz to pool/main/o/omniorb4/omniorb4_4.1.0.orig.tar.gz A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. Bug#451748: acpi-support-base: trying to overwrite `/usr/share/acpi-support/policy-funcs', which is also in package acpi-support
On Sun, 18 Nov 2007, Bart Samwel wrote: Raphael, I've committed a potential fix which adds a few conflicts. I'm hoping this will get the package managers to do the right thing -- uninstall all acpi-support before installing the new versions. Do you think this will work? I don't know enough about how smart these tools are nowadays... No, please re-read the Debian policy section 7.5. In this case, we only need to add Replaces: acpi-support ( 1.103-2) in acpi-support-base. Because acpi-support-base has to replace one file provided by those versions of acpi-support. There's no need for a conflict because the content hasn't changed in an incompatible way. At most you could use the new Breaks: field (exactly like the Replaces above) to give a supplementary hint. It looks like I've done the previous upload in a bit of a hurry and completely forgot this part indeed... I could not run reportbug with 2.2.0-1 installed. All fonts were completely illegible (black boxes) unless I set Gnome's font rendering preferences to 'monochrome'. At that point, *most* fonts showed up, but not all, including none in the gnome terminal. Xterm worked just fine. However, in addition to the font rendering problems, most icons were either rendered impropperly or surrounded by black rectangles. Text consoles failed to display at all, even with GDM stopped. Sounds like #439210, which is discussed upstream at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11402 Adding the following to the Device section in your xorg.conf could help: Option AccelMethod XAA But it could also degrade other things. Bug#451647: debian/copyright and actual copyrights
On Sun, Nov 18, 2007 at 09:28:28AM +0100, Pierre Habouzit wrote: OTOH this debian/copyright is clearly deficient in many ways, but stop accusing him of bad faith, you're just out of your mind. Thanks Pierre, you've just saved us all from my response to jeff's wild slander from the hip. There are two issues here, the important one being -policy compliance, the other stylistic. Since the bug was raised to red-alert-panic severity without pointing to a single clear policy violation, I'll ask again for the sake of our new audience, before I summarily close it by way of reply: Can someone show me any single MUST in policy that is violated by this debian/copyright file? Bonus points if you can get them all first time. Because by my reading, there apparently aren't any. I don't extrapolate from that to say this is a masterpiece of best practice, because its actually clearly one of the most appalling copyright files I've ever seen. Kid's don't clone this at home. I mean it. This is the kind of boilerplate abuse your parents and friends warned you about. (even if it is better than some of the ones Ganneff has to sort through -- that's nothing to brag about) I can make my excuses for that separately[1], but our law here is -policy, and if I, the boilerplate maker, ftp-admin, and any number of other developers have not spotted a violation of it in all the many years this has looked the way it does -- then we have a quite different serious bug on our hands we should know more about. I don't think that is the case though, I do agree this file needs the same sort of treatment the Smith inquisition recently gave the rest of the package text, and that will be done, but its probably not a job for -legal, and clearly not 'serious' in the BTS sense. Cheers, Ron [1] - Ok then, you asked for it: This package started out (intended) as an uncertain mash-up of various tablet related things from various sources. Right now it really is mostly just the linuxwacom driver, and I'm mostly hacking on it vicariously at present since the kernel driver is sound, and other folks are the XOrg experts where the trouble is. The copyright file apparently hasn't been polished since then and just contains the minimum required to cover the things that were going in there (and some fairly stupid typos). It makes sense to buff it up a bit now that things have a fairly stable form established. All the original attributions and licences are kept with the relevant source, this is just the cover page in the binary, and since it clearly has almost no additional information than the minimum required of it, I'd expect any wise user would not try to infer any such things from that nothingness and quickly look elsewhere for them instead. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#445360: rxvt reproducibly crashes with certain mutt behaviour
Hi, How do I get gdb to work with this? I've tried running it until that point, and then Ctrl+Z it in gdb to be able to type commands, but then: that's exactly the way to do it (I use CTRL+C, but that shouldn't matter). The problem is that rxvt is built with too little debugging info, regardless of the contents of $DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS. (Yep, that's my fault.) For debugging purposes I've rebuilt with the following modification in debian/rules: ] build.stamp: ] dh_testdir ] ] ./configure $(CFG_BASE) --without-xpm ] echo #define PTYS_ARE_GETPT 1 config.h ] $(MAKE) CFLAGS='$(CFLAGS) -g3 -O0' all clock ^^^ That should make gdb understand all the structures and typedefs that the rxvt headers introduce. Alternatively you can work on the bare metal if you know the size of your terminal (TermWin.nrow, usually 24) and your saveLines setting (seems to be 500 in your case): (gdb) p (char *[24])*((void **)screen + 500) $15 = { 0x543a10 i:Exit -:PrevPg Space:NextPg v:View Attachm. d:Del r:Reply j:Next ?:Help , 0x543d40 X-Spam-Level:, ' ' repeats 67 times, 0x544070 Delivery-date: Sun, 22 Jul 2007 15:43:56 +0200, ' ' repeats 34 times, 0x5443a0 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED], ' ' repeats 56 times, 0x5446d0 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED], ' ' repeats 52 times, 0x544a00 Date: Sun, 22 Jul 2007 15:43:45 +0200, ' ' repeats 43 times, 0x544d30 X-SA-Exim-Connect-IP: 2001:b68:e160:0:20b:dbff:fee6:9fcd, ' ' repeats 24 times, 0x545060 Subject: ** PROBLEM alert - nekkar.CARNet.hr host is DOWN **, ' ' repeats 20 times, 0x545390 ' ' repeats 80 times, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x55c9f0 ' ' repeats 80 times, 0x55cb00 ' ' repeats 80 times, 0x55cc10 ' ' repeats 80 times, 0x55cd20 ' ' repeats 80 times, 0x55ce30 ' ' repeats 80 times, 0x5456c0 [-- The following data is signed --], ' ' repeats 44 times, 0x5459f0 ' ' repeats 80 times, 0x545d20 Debian-Edu: Skolelinux 3.0 Terra available for free download!, ' ' repeats 19 times, 0x546050 - s - 1/2: Steffen Joeris Release Announcement: Debian-Edu/Sko -- (16%) , 0x546380 ' ' repeats 80 times} Regards, Jan signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#445360: rxvt crash
Ah, forgot one thing, to avoid a misunderstanding, because you quoted my gdb output: those NULL pointers are in _your_ session. I extracted that from your second core file. The contents of the display have already been partially replaced at the time of the crash... the lines above the five 0x0s are part of the second mail, the lines below belong to the first one, and the last line containing the status bar has already been cleared by mutt, too. In my tests I also get PGP sig could not be verified, but I don't have 0x0 pointers in the middle of the .text and .rend arrays. I'd be glad if I had, because then I had something to debug. ;) Regards, Jan signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Package: mongrel Version: 1.1.1-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable After installing Mongrel, attempting to start it from Rails results in the following traceback: Exiting /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/http11.so: /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/http11.so: invalid ELF header - /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/http11.so (LoadError) from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:27:in `require' from /home/dave/ror/fortunes/vendor/rails/activesupport/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:495:in `require' from /home/dave/ror/fortunes/vendor/rails/activesupport/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:342:in `new_constants_in' from /home/dave/ror/fortunes/vendor/rails/activesupport/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:495:in `require' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/mongrel.rb:16 from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:27:in `gem_original_require' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:27:in `require' from /home/dave/ror/fortunes/vendor/rails/activesupport/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:495:in `require' ... 12 levels... from /home/dave/ror/fortunes/vendor/rails/activesupport/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:495:in `require' from /home/dave/ror/fortunes/vendor/rails/railties/lib/commands/server.rb:39 from ./script/server:3:in `require' from ./script/server:3 Upon investigation, both `file` and `strings` agree: /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/http11.so is a win32 DLL, not an ELF library. As such, it obviously entirely fails to function on a linux system. Further investigation shows that a working ELF version of the library is installed in /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/i486-linux/, but the broken DLL version sitting in /usr/lib/ruby/1.8 takes precedence, and causes Mongrel to fail. I've attempted to rebuild the package from source, with the same result: the build process pulls in a win32 version of the library and installs it in a way that masks the working ELF version. The win32 library is located in the lib/ subdirectory of the debianized source tree. Removing that copy and rebuilding results in a working package. I therefore believe that the precompiled win32 http11.so should be removed from the package's source tree to fix this. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-3-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages mongrel depends on: ii libc62.6.1-6 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libdaemons-ruby 1.0.8-1 Ruby daemons library ii libgemplugin-ruby0.2.2-1 Gem Based Plugin System ii libgems-ruby1.8 0.9.4-4 libraries to use RubyGems, a packa ii libruby1.8 1.8.6.111-2 Libraries necessary to run Ruby 1. ii ruby1.8 1.8.6.111-2 Interpreter of object-oriented scr mongrel recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#451849: openoffice.org-gnome: wiping out contents of files on shared drives when opening
I noticed it in the last few days. 2.3.0.dfsg-1 and -2 came fast after one another, but it would have very likely been one of those. I don't often edit documents on the machine running sid, but I do sometimes and documents getting wiped out is a bug that is quite noticeable. On Sun, 2007-11-18 at 23:41 +0100, Rene Engelhard wrote: Hi, Tim Richardson wrote: When opening files on a shared folder (in one case, a Windows share, in another case, a share from another Debian box) the file is zeroed out when the file is opened. Irretrievable data loss. No warning. Something to do with gnome Vfs perhaps. The error occurs in Writer and Calc (the only two parts of openoffice.org I tested). I saw this happen with a number of small documents that opened just fine if they were first copied to the local hard drive. And since when does that happen? With the upgrade to 2.3.0.dfsg-1 or later or before it (i.e.. with 2.2.1-x or 2.3.0-x)? Unfortunately I don't really have either nfs nor smb here to test currently so... I'll ask upstream whether this is known... Regards, Rene -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#451889: FIXED: netselect was unable to find a mirror
Package: netselect-apt Version: 0.3.ds1-10 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable I noticed after installing a new version of Debian Etch that netselect-apt fails with the message: netselect was unable to find a mirror, this probably means that you are behind a firewall and it is blocking traceroute. It seems the Perl code within run_netselect() fails to parse the HTML of the Debian worldwide mirror sites page at http://www.debian.org/mirror/mirrors_full because that page no longer contains \n\n delimiters. I resolved the problem by modifying run_netselect() to use brbr instead (highlighted): run_netselect() { SEARCH=$1 PROTO=$2 netselect -v -s 1 $(cat $infile \ | perl -n -e ' $/=brbr; while(){ next if $_ !~ /Site:/; if( m@'$SEARCH':.*a href=('$PROTO'://.*?)@i ){ print($1\n); } }') \ | awk '{print $2}' } I also removed the check for Archive Architectures, since the phrase no longer appears on the page. Perhaps this is needed, however? I've attached a patch to this e-mail with the changes. I created it with the following commands: claude:~/tmp$ find old new old old/netselect-apt new new/netselect-apt claude:~/tmp$ diff -Naur old new netselect-apt.patch Also, I noticed after patching netselect-apt that running netselect-apt occassionally fails due to negative values for netselect field host-num_out, but this is a bug for the netselect package, not netselect-apt . Please let me know if you have any comments, questions, or concerns. But this only applies to upstrea tgz file and not for the gem file - this explain why it was not detected so far. gonna fix this in the upstream jar and then upload a new version here.
