Bug#451825: PSPP-BUG: segfault in PSPP

To learn more about what is going on here, I built both PSPP
0.4.0 and the latest version from CVS on pergolesi.debian.org in
a 64-bit chroot. On "make check" on 0.4.0, about half of the
tests failed. With the latest CVS snapshot, however, all tests
passed, and the example program worked fine.

I don't think that PSPP 0.4.0 is going to perform satisfactorily
on x86-64. The upcoming release, and the current CVS for that
matter, should be much better.

(I am currently fielding a few problems with support for
big-endian systems though. But those should be pretty easy to
fix.)

Ugh. I have no idea how this passed my test before, but it couldn't
have. Apparently I forgot that the shell (of course) requires a token
before the closing paren, so I need to do "$DOXYGEN", not $DOXYGEN. (the
condition that has the syntax error will never execute, but that doesn't
help if it doesn't parse)

Sorry about that. I've been distracted by visiting relatives and
wasn't as careful as I should have been with this fix.

Upon investigation, both `file` and `strings` agree:
/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/http11.so is a win32 DLL, not an ELF library. As such, it
obviously entirely fails to function on a linux system.

Further investigation shows that a working ELF version of the library is
installed in /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/i486-linux/, but the broken DLL version
sitting in /usr/lib/ruby/1.8 takes precedence, and causes Mongrel to fail.

I've attempted to rebuild the package from source, with the same result:
the build process pulls in a win32 version of the library and installs it
in a way that masks the working ELF version. The win32 library is located
in the lib/ subdirectory of the debianized source tree. Removing that copy
and rebuilding results in a working package.

I therefore believe that the precompiled win32 http11.so should be removed
from the package's source tree to fix this.

Package: mongrel

Justification: package is unusable on most platforms

mongrel_1.1.1.orig.tar.gz (md5sum 103a7a3c5580fc1002c1327fea934203)
contains two invalid files that should not be in a source package:

mongrel-1.1.1/lib/http11.jar
mongrel-1.1.1/lib/http11.so

This is doubly bad because the .so is built as an MS-DOS executable
according to file!

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/matt # file /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/http11.so
/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/http11.so: MS-DOS executable PE for MS Windows
(DLL) (GUI) Intel 80386 32-bit

The package fails to work after installation due to this,
mongrel_rails gives the error:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/matt # mongrel_rails
/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/http11.so: /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/http11.so: invalid ELF
header - /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/http11.so (LoadError)

Deleting the two files from the source package and rebuilding results
in a correct .so library and mongrel_rails then functions
appropriately.

Package: mongrel
Version: 1.1.1-1
Severity: grave
Justification: package is unusable on most platforms

mongrel_1.1.1.orig.tar.gz (md5sum 103a7a3c5580fc1002c1327fea934203)
contains two invalid files that should not be in a source package:

mongrel-1.1.1/lib/http11.jar
mongrel-1.1.1/lib/http11.so

This is doubly bad because the .so is built as an MS-DOS executable
according to file!

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/matt # file /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/http11.so
/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/http11.so: MS-DOS executable PE for MS Windows
(DLL) (GUI) Intel 80386 32-bit

The package fails to work after installation due to this,
mongrel_rails gives the error:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/matt # mongrel_rails
/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/http11.so: /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/http11.so: invalid ELF
header - /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/http11.so (LoadError)

Deleting the two files from the source package and rebuilding results
in a correct .so library and mongrel_rails then functions
appropriately.

Bug#451954: Subtle problem with gettext.info

2007-11-24 Thread Karl Berry
 INFO-DIR-SECTION GNU Gettext Utilities

This is gettext.info, produced by makeinfo version 4.11 from gettext.texi.

It's a (quite unfortunate) bug, and I think I've fixed it for the next
Texinfo release.

It could be a transient problem in one of your build dependencies. Since
Lucas's working by whole-archive-rebuild, every few weeks, there's no
real requeue to ask for. I'd suggest to eventually close this bug as
it's unreproducible. If this problem pops up again, the bug will be
reopened and we'll investigate.

Even better, so it was probably just a weird Latex side effect caused by
having too few dependencies satisfied.

'reopen' may be inappropriate when a bug has been closed with a version;
you may need to use 'found' to remove fixed versions.

It appears that it is exactly that. This bug will manifest itself in
only when autoreconf'd. See
,
which is linked to from #452465, which is exactly the same problem.

I'm not sure what the solution is. HTH.

Bug#452748: rails: CVE-2007-6077 unauthorized disclosure of information

2007-11-24 Thread Nico Golde
Package: rails
Severity: grave
Tags: security patch

Hi,
the following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities & Exposures) id was
published for rails.

CVE-2007-6077[0]:
| The session fixation protection mechanism in cgi_process.rb in Rails 1.2.4, as
| used in Ruby on Rails, removes the :cookie_only attribute from the
| DEFAULT_SESSION_OPTIONS constant, which effectively causes :cookie_only to
only
| be applied to the first instantiation of CgiRequest, which allows remote
| attackers to conduct session fixation attacks. NOTE: this is due to an
| incomplete fix for CVE-2007-5380

If you fix this vulnerability please also include the CVE id
in your changelog entry.

Since this is caused by an incomplete fix for CVE-2007-5380 I set the severity
to grave.

There is a patch available on:
http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ticket/10048

For further information:

Version: 1:2.3.0.dfsg-3
Severity: serious

Hi, upgrading to ttf-opensymbol with apt-get gives me:

Setting up ttf-opensymbol (1:2.3.0.dfsg-3) ...
Updating fontconfig cache...
/var/lib/dpkg/info/ttf-opensymbol.postinst: line 98: 4969 Segmentation fault

dpkg: error processing ttf-opensymbol (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 139
 Errors were encountered while processing:
  ttf-opensymbol

This is with fontconfig 2.5.0-2. Looks like a fontconfig bug, but filing
against ttf-opensymbol since it seems to be the only font causing
problems. Feel free to reassign if necessary, thanks.

I know for sure that there is a lot of lintian warnings (errors even,
as I remember) for scilab. I think it might be worthy to fix them
for Lenny. I will proceed to this as soon as I can.

Probably, if I understand correctly, these are optional modules which
may be loaded at runtime; I have not checked yet...

| It's a buildd, so it's build in a chroot using sbuild.

That's what I thought. So may I consider this to be an sbuild issue?

It is nothing I can do anything about. But if you see anything in
debian/rules I should do differently, let me know.

Bug#452702: Using the -a -0 options twice to the same patch makes it beeing overridden

2007-11-24 Thread Daniel Leidert
Package: dpatch
Version: 2.0.28
Severity: grave

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

If you think, downgrade it to important, but I think, this issue
introduces data loss.

The problem can be easily reproduced: Take a package with dpatch
support. Create a patch:

dpatch -a -0 -01_foo
(e.g. touch test, add some text to test, exit)

then talke a look at the patch and you will find the newly created file.
Now run the same command again:

dpatch -a -0 -01_foo
(e.g. touch test2, add some text to test2, exit)

and now look again into the patch. Your first change has been completely
lost. I guess, the problem is caused by the -a switch, that probably
apples the patch we want to change to the orig source too, so the
difference gets lost, because the patch has been applied to the working
and the reference tree. Maybe you just need to make sure, that only the
patches up to (and excluding) the given patch are applied to the source.

This introduces a second question: Say you have 5 patches: 01..05 and you
run

dpatch-edit-patch -a 03

Shall it apply the patch 01..02 or shall it try to put the patch 03 at
the end and apply all patches 01..02,04..05? Depending on this, I guess,
you have to solve the original problem.

Regards, Daniel

As I don't ship static libraries in libgwenhywfar47-dev, I will do the
latter:

> - Don't ship the .la files if you don't need them for other reasons

Apparently they aren't needed any more (both build-depending packages
libchipcard and libaqbanking do build without problems if it's missing).
Thus I reassign the bug to libgwenhywfar and fix it there.

Kurt, thank you for your advice.

The patch looks pretty obvious and works for me, but I'd appreciate it
if someone who actually knows C would review it.

I am using plain-vanilla pbuilder with a trivial shell wrapper (to capture
build-logs etc). What do you use?

Bug#452686: eboard crashes and is very slow

2007-11-24 Thread Nico Schottelius
Verified crashing on Debian sid on another machine, also 1.0.3-1.

The slow move problem also occurs in 1.0.4 from source.

Reported problem to upstream developer mailing list.

Currently letting 1.0.4 running in observe mode on fics to see whether
it also crashes.

It looks like this is bug #256054 in hpoj, the functionality of which
is now in hplip.

BTW please don't include #452408 in future mails, unless they regard

Thanks again, texlive-latex-base was the missing Depends.

As for your

One of the things I notice in this is the:

I probably know less C than you do, but after comparing it with somewhat
similar code in choose-mirror, no problems with the patch jump out at me.

I know about this bug. It's already reported to upstream maitainers.
There is a workaround - building the package using more stack space
(ulimit -s 16386 is proven to be enough) but I'm not sure if it worth
to do that because otherwise it will randomly fail to start if a user
don't increase stack size.

Oops, sorry. The missing thing about it is the license too: it says GPLv1
or later in util-linux/fdisk.c, so it should be mentioned separately
in debian/copyright.

I suspect that the bug is "simply" a tetex/texlive transition issue.

Anyway, Torsten, do not hesitate to ping me as your devoted

The package that ships libgwenhywfar.la (libgwenhywfar38-dev)
should have a Depends on the packages shipping /usr/lib/libgnutls.la
(libgnutls-dev), which it doesn't.

This is a bug in libgwenhywfar38-dev, and I'll reassign it shortly.

> libgnutls.la contains:
> # Libraries that this one depends upon.
> dependency_libs=' -L/usr/lib /usr/lib/libtasn1.la /usr/lib/libgcrypt.la
> -lz /usr/lib/libgcrypt.la /usr/lib/libgpg-error.la -lnsl'

And the package shipping libgnutls.la (libgnutls-dev) should have
a Depends on the packages shipping /usr/lib/libtasn1.la (libtasn1-3-dev),
/usr/lib/libgcrypt.la (libgcrypt11-dev), which it does.

And there is also /usr/lib/libgcrypt.la that has:
dependency_libs=' /usr/lib/libgpg-error.la -lnsl'

So libgnutls-dev should Depends on the package shipping
/usr/lib/libgpg-error.la (libgpg-error-dev), which it does.

(You should read this in the reverse order).

> upstream said -- I think libgwenhywfar.la shouldn't contain a reference
> to libgnutls.la. But what needs to be done (in libgwenhywfar) to achieve
> that?

There are 2 problems here:
- libtool uses the .la files when it finds them. And tries to read
all of them. If one of the files mentioned isn't available, it
will and should fail. There are 2 ways to deal with this (in Debian):
  - Add the right Depends to your -dev package. This is also needed
for static linking.
  - Don't ship the .la files if you don't need them for other reasons
- You have extra libraries you link too which you don't need. This
is a problem in libtool that has no easy solution. There is a patch
in the Debian version of libtool that mostly solves it, but it also
  has a few problems.

It's a buildd, so it's build in a chroot using sbuild.

Bug#452061: your mail

2007-11-24 Thread Juhapekka Tolvanen
On Sat, 24 Nov 2007, +12:46:59 EET (UTC +0200),
William Pitcock <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> pressed some keys:

> do mp3 files work? this appears to be just a bug in the FLAC plugin. if
> you could provide sample FLAC files which crash the player, then this
> bug can be triaged...

Also MP3-files make audacious crash.

But this looks very weird:

Latest versions of audacious and its related packages in Debian are
right now these:

audacious : 1.4.2-1
libaudclient1 : 1.4.2-1
audacious-plugins : 1.4.1-1
audacious-plugins-extra : 1.4.1-1

I fear that those versions clash.

One of the things I notice in this is the:
mkdir: cannot create directory `././home/buildd': Permission denied

I'm not sure what it's exactly trying to do, but /home/buildd, which
is set in $HOME, does not exist. On some of the other buildds you'll
also notice things like:
mkdir: cannot create directory `././nonexistent/.texmf-var': Permission denied

Please don't try to write to the home directory.

Package: xen-utils-3.0.3-1
Version: 3.0.3-0-3
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

Xen versions 3.x, and 3.1 contain a tool for processing Xen trace
 buffer information.

This tool uses the static file /tmp/xenq-shm insecurely allowing
a local user to truncate any local file when xenbaked or xenmon.py
 are invoked by root.

  Sample session:

# setup.
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ln -s /etc/passwd /tmp/xenq-shm

# later.
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo xenbaked

# all gone. :(
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls -l /etc/passwd
-rw-r--r-- 1 0 root 327680 2007-10-17 00:14 /etc/passwd

This flaw is known as CVE-2007-3919 by the common vulnerabilities
 and exposures project.

As the filename needs to be shared between xenmon.py + xenbaked.c
a "random" one cannot easily be generated. The solution that
Debian will use for its security update is to create the file in
a location which is only writable by root - /var/run.

Security advisory will be released very soon.

Bug#451954: Subtle problem with gettext.info

2007-11-24 Thread Santiago Vila
Hi.

I finally fixed the Debian package for gettext 0.17, but when I'm
going to install it, this is what happens:

Setting up gettext-base (0.17-1) ...
Setting up gettext (0.17-1) ...
install-info(/usr/share/info/gettext.info):
dpkg: error processing gettext (--install):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 255
Errors were encountered while processing:
 gettext

The gettext.info file from 0.16.1 was like this:

This is gettext.info, produced by makeinfo version 4.8 from
 gettext.texi.

 INFO-DIR-SECTION GNU Gettext Utilities
 START-INFO-DIR-ENTRY
 * gettext: (gettext). GNU gettext utilities.
 * autopoint: (gettext)autopoint Invocation.Copy gettext infrastructure.
 [...]

and gettext.info from 0.17 is like this:

 INFO-DIR-SECTION GNU Gettext Utilities
 START-INFO-DIR-ENTRY
This is gettext.info, produced by makeinfo version 4.11 from gettext.texi.

 * gettext: (gettext). GNU gettext utilities.
 * autopoint: (gettext)autopoint Invocation.Copy gettext infrastructure.
 * envsubst: (gettext)envsubst Invocation. Expand environment variables.

Is Debian install-info being picky about the new gettext.info, or is
this a bug in makeinfo 4.11 who generated the file?

[ Cc:ing dpkg developers, as Bug #451954 was very similar to this ].

Thanks.

One of the things I notice in this is the:
mkdir: cannot create directory `././home/buildd': Permission denied

I'm not sure what it's exactly trying to do, but /home/buildd, which
is set in $HOME, does not exist. On some of the other buildds you'll
also notice things like:
mkdir: cannot create directory `././nonexistent/.texmf-var': Permission denied

Please don't try to write to the home directory.

package: iceweasel
version: 2.0.0.9-1
severity: serious

I noticed a build failure on the mips buildd build and it appeared to
be to be much the same issue that broke other mozilla related apps.

I tried to reproduce in my amd64 sid chroot but instead of the failure
from the buildd I got a different failure:

"dpkg-shlibdeps: failure: couldn't find library libxpcom_core.so (note:
only packages with 'shlibs' files are looked into)."

Bug#452061: your mail

2007-11-24 Thread William Pitcock
Hi,

Can you rm -rf $HOME/.config/audacious? This will make it reset to
defaults.

This usually fixes such bugs. Also, make sure you do not have any
non-Debian provided plugins installed. Also, the Debian provided
versions are correct.

Additionally, a backtrace would be useful, especially with debugging
symbols.

Please explain why flatzebra don't need to depend on this for itself?

Bug#452408: hplip: undeclared predependency on killall (Re: E: Couldn't install system due to errors!)

2007-11-24 Thread René Mérou
I tryed to remove packages with dependencies like solfeo or edu-music and it
run, or at least it did not stoped at that point. but it was installed with
one secondary problem. The work stops at that package asking for some
questions.

But i was not able tu start kdm in that iso so i started one new from zero,
one etch this time.

I left the work all the night and now i find it was stoped one more time in
that package, this is the text:

if i answer it continues the job. I dont know at the moment if it ends the job
well, but at least this package has that little inconvenient. Is that a bug?

Package: dnswalk
Version: 2.0.2-8
Severity: serious

Hi!

This bug has been filed on multiple packages, and general discussions
are kindly requested to take place on debian-legal or debian-devel in
the thread with Subject: "Non-free IETF RFC/I-Ds in source packages".

It seems this source package contains the following files from the
IETF under non-free license terms:

dnswalk-2.0.2.orig/rfc1912.txt

The license on RFC/I-Ds is not DFSG-free, see:
 * http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=199810
 * http://release.debian.org/removing-non-free-documentation
 * http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

The etch release policy says binary and source packages must each be free:
 * http://release.debian.org/etch_rc_policy.txt

The severity is serious, because this violates the Debian policy:
 * http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-archive.html#s-dfsg

There are (at least) three ways to fix this problem. In order of
preference:

1. Ask the author of the RFC to re-license the RFC under a free
license. A template for this e-mail request can be found at
   http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

2. Remove the non-free material from the source, e.g., by re-packaging
the upstream archive and adding a 'dfsg' version name to it.

3. Move the package to non-free.

I went over many packages looking for names of likely non-free files,
and there may be false positives. If this is the case for your
package, I'm sorry for the noise. I'll modify the scripts to take
into account false positives when I learn of them, and publish the
list of exceptions under "Known exceptions" at
.

Thanks,
Simon

'reopen' may be inappropriate when a bug has been closed with a version;
you may need to use 'found' to remove fixed versions.
Bug reopened, originator not changed.

I'll fix this. Thanks for pointing out.

debian/copyright file says,

(util-linux/fdisk.c)
Copyright (C) 1992 A. V. Le Blanc <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

So, this is already fixed.
