trackerd consumes 100% cpu continually on my system.
It says it is done indexing but it still consumes all of the cpu.
I end up having to kill the process to stop it.

Bug#462476: gfontview: should this package be removed?

2008-01-24 Thread Barry deFreese

Package: gfontview
Version: 0.5.0-9
Severity: serious
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: proposed-removal

Hi,

While reviewing some packages, your package came up as a possible
candidate for removal from Debian, because:

* Debian package is Orphaned
* Upstream has been inactive for 6+ years
* Needs gnome1 libs which are scheduled to be removed
* Only works with libfreetyp1 which is also scheduled for removal

It does have a high popcon score but I don't see how this package will be viable. Upstream supposedly started a 0.6.0 version that uses freetype2
but again it has been dormant for years.

If you agree, sending the following commands to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
should do it (after replacing nn with this bug's number):
severity nn normal
reassign nn ftp.debian.org
retitle nn RM:  -- RoM;
thanks

For more information, see
http://wiki.debian.org/ftpmaster_Removals
http://ftp-master.debian.org/removals.txt

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please
just close this bug, preferably in an upload also fixing the other
issues.

Thank you,

Barry deFreese

Bug#462280: RM: newbiedoc -- RoQA; orphaned, out of date, licensing situation iffy

2008-01-24 Thread Raphael Geissert
reassign 462280 newbiedoc
retitle 462280 newbiedoc: should this package be removed?
severity 462280 serious
thanks

Marc:
Someone intends to adopt this package so IMHO the RM request should be delayed
(but feel free to get it out of testing :).
By the way, you should probably list this kind of things in the bapase
package-actions.txt file.

Vanessa:
has there been any progress on adopting the package?
As you can see someone has already requested the package's removal, so it
would be good to know the status of this ITA.
I'm asking a delay for the package's removal so it doesn't have to, again, go
through the 'NEW' process when your updated package is uploaded.
So I'd recommend you to continuously report any progress and prepare an upload
soon.

Sincerely,

That was exactly what I wrote, yes:

If you are uncertain, then feel free to verify, eg. by compiling in a
pbuild or cowbuid etch chroot with and without the change.

Other shell means no differrence.
But I make setuid strace and straced sudo. And I have found that sudo
uses pam_lastlog.so, and I remember that I have problem with pam_lastlog
and xdm, so I remove pam_lastlog.
After removing pam_lastlog.so sudo stops segfault.
I don't know if it is bug in pam_lastlog or I missed something?

My files:
/etc/pam.d/sudo
==
#%PAM-1.0

@include common-auth
@include common-account
=

/etc/pam.d/other

#
# /etc/pam.d/other - specify the PAM fallback behaviour
#
# Note that this file is used for any unspecified service; for example
#if /etc/pam.d/cron specifies no session modules but cron calls
#pam_open_session, the session module out of /etc/pam.d/other is
#used. If you really want nothing to happen then use pam_permit.so or
#pam_deny.so as appropriate.

# We fall back to the system default in /etc/pam.d/common-*
#

@include common-auth
@include common-account
@include common-password
@include common-session
=

/etc/pam.d/common-session
=
#
# /etc/pam.d/common-session - session-related modules common to all
# services
#
# This file is included from other service-specific PAM config files,
# and should contain a list of modules that define tasks to be performed
# at the start and end of sessions of *any* kind (both interactive and
# non-interactive). The default is pam_unix.
#
session requiredpam_unix.so
# Sets up user limits according to /etc/security/limits.conf
# (Replaces the use of /etc/limits in old login)
session required pam_limits.so
session optional pam_lastlog.so #AFTER COMMENTING THIS SUDO STOP SEGFAULT
=

But there is another question (below some lines from strace dump)

open("/etc/pam.d/sudo", O_RDONLY|O_LARGEFILE) = 4

As you can see sudo opens /etc/pam.d/other. Why? I thought that
/etc/pam.d/other is used if there is file for service?

Please keep the bug log in the discussion. Also please bear in mind
that I am not the maintainer - I'm just trying to get enough information
in the bug log that the maintainer can perhaps find what's going on.

I suggest something might be wrong with your usage of pam_lastlog, but I
don't really know.

Please describe exactly what you see. Does GRUB crash? Does it hang? Does
it print any error?

What does "grub-probe -t fs /usr" print?

On a sidenote, can you tell me more about ext4? Does Linux 2.6.24 automaticaly
add ext4 extensions to your existing ext3 partitions, or did you make them (or
migrate them) explicitly via mke2fs/tune2fs or so?

Thanks

The full build log is available from:
http://people.debian.org/~lucas/logs/2008/01/03

A list of current common problems and possible solutions is available at
http://wiki.debian.org/qa.debian.org/FTBFS . You're welcome to contribute!

About the archive rebuild: The rebuild was done on about 50 AMD64 nodes
of the Grid'5000 platform, using a clean chroot containing a sid
environment. Internet was not accessible from the build systems.

This is not a security hole. I'll leave it up to the maintainer whether
to close this outright or do something else with it, but I'm removing
security and severity.

No problem, mozart-gtk is a pita and i will be very happy to lose
it. I have been wanting to write to the mozart lists to give them one
last chance since before Christmas (see #456652), but I thought I
would wait to give mozart people a chance to get back from
vacation. Now seems as good a time as any.

I know, that's because the code is not 64 bit clean. There's several bug
reports about this already in the BTS, and this is not RC as there's no
binaries for those architectures.

I wonder about the messages (see below)

What do you mean by "the system is crashing"? Asterisk?
Could you send us the core file?

Version: 1.0.5-3
Severity: grave
Tags: security

Hi,
the following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities & Exposures) id was
published for dircproxy.

CVE-2007-5226[0]:
| irc_server.c in dircproxy 1.2.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to
| cause a denial of service (segmentation fault) via an ACTION command
| without a parameter, which triggers a NULL pointer dereference, as
| demonstrated using a blank /me message from irssi.

If you fix this vulnerability please also include the CVE id
in your changelog entry.

The null pointer dereference itself is not that big kind of
a problem here but since this also means to lose the data
you want to read while you are away I mark this as grave.

For further information:

Kind regards
Nico

Upstream bug filed as CPAN #32630. This is what I wrote there:

The problem seems to be the newSVpvf() calls around Header.xs:250 - they
are using the "UVuf" format, which expands at least here to "lu"
 (/usr/lib/perl/5.8/CORE/Config.h), while passing in a FLAC__int64 value.
This means that the newSVpvf() stdarg function is expecting an "unsigned
long" (32 bits) and getting an "unsigned long long" (64 bits).

I don't claim to understand exactly what happens here; I suppose the
behaviour is undefined, and apparently the caller and the callee are
disagreeing about the register where the value should be stored. The
wrong value (1604068 above) varies a bit, and seems to be whatever
happens to be in r25 just before the function call.

One fix is to explicitly cast the value to "unsigned long" in the
newSVpvf() calls, but I guess this would lose information on >4G (32
bits) FLAC files. A better solution might be to do the decimal
conversion on the C side with sprintf() and the "%llu" format before
 calling newSV*().

Waiting a while for upstream to respond before trying to patch this.

Hi,

While reviewing some packages, your package came up as a possible
candidate for removal from Debian, because:

 * It has no users (3 votes out of 7 installations)
 * FTBFS with dash
 * Last maintainer upload was on 2004
 * "This is a BETA version and is best used by mail experts only."
 * Uses the very ancient standards version 2.1.1.0 (obsolete since
November 1996)
 * There are several packaging issues (refer to lintian's report)

If you think that it should be orphaned instead of being removed from
Debian, please reply to this bug and tell so.

If you agree, sending the following commands to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
should do it (after replacing nn with this bug's number):
severity nn normal
reassign nn ftp.debian.org
retitle nn RM:  -- RoM;
thanks

For more information, see
http://wiki.debian.org/ftpmaster_Removals
http://ftp-master.debian.org/removals.txt

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please
just close this bug, preferably in an upload also fixing the other
issues.

Thank you,

That shouldn't be right. I think a previous upload of mine must have
gotten lost.

I'll sort it out.

Grave? Are you serious?

Anyway, I have 0.10 prepared with an init script. I just need to upload
it, which won't happen until I'm physically reunited with my gpg secret
key, which will be in approximately 2 weeks.

In the meantime you can download some untrustable packages from
http://people.debian.org/~willy/kerneloops/

(feel free to verify the orig.tar.gz matches upstream and the contents
of the diff.gz, then rebuild it yourself).

Bug#462421: claws-mail crashes with an X Window System error

2008-01-24 Thread Borden Rhodes
Package: claws-mail
Version: 3.2.0-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

When trying to run claws-mail from bash or KDE 4 the program will
load briefly and then disappear. In bash, the following message will
appear after the program has crashed:

/* Begin Message */
The program 'claws-mail' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
  (Details: serial 5608 error_code 8 request_code 2 minor_code 0)
(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported
asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error()
function.)
/* End Message */

Other GTK-based programs like Synaptec and or The GIMP run correctly
without issue. From Ubuntu's debugging procedures, I tried to get a
stack trace using the command
> strace -Ff -tt claws-mail 2>&1 | tee strace-claws-mail.log
and, to my surprise, claws-mail ran correctly without let or
hinderance.

Bug#462412: kerneloops: Refuses to run, lacks documentation

2008-01-24 Thread Johan Walles
Package: kerneloops
Version: 0.7-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Attempting to run as an ordinary user:

 [Inactive by user [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$

Attempting to run as root:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo /usr/sbin/kerneloops
 [Inactive by user [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$

The man page says nothing about how to activate it.

There is no user documentation in /usr/share/doc, just a copyright file
and a changelog.

Please, either fix the "Inactive by user preference" thing or document
how to activate it.

Bug#462410: asterisk: astrerisk fails after update on codec conversion and crashes

2008-01-24 Thread Holger Wegner
Package: asterisk
Version: 1:1.4.17~dfsg-2
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

After updating to 1.4.17 the system is crashing everytime it receives or
send a connection to the chan-capi. The Capi is connected to a Eicon
Diva Server 4BRI. This was working before. A call transfer from SIP to
SIP or IAX or voicemail does work. Transfer from Capi to IAX does lead
to a crash too.
In the chan capi alaw ist used, in sip alaw and ulaw.
I wonder about the messages (see below)

No translator path exists for channel type SIP (native 65535) to 0
No translator path exists for channel type CAPI (native 8) to 0
Unable to find a codec translation path from unknown to gsm

Why is doesnt find any translator, as it worked before and another
question why it is crashing at the end.

here what happens:

Bug#462407: unescaped colons in COMMENT field make graph generation fail

2008-01-24 Thread Joseph Nahmias
Package: bindgraph
Version: 0.2-5
Severity: grave
Tags: patch

Hi,

When browsing http://localhost/cgi-bin/bindgraph.cgi I do not see any
graphs, all I see is:

DNS Statistics for [hostname]
Last Hours Graph

bindgraph image 0
Day Graph

bindgraph image 1
Week Graph

bindgraph image 2
Month Graph

bindgraph image 3
Year Graph

bindgraph image 4

bindgraph 0.2 by Marco Delaurenti and Marco d'Itri

Digging deeper, I see the following error when generating the graphs
causing no graphs to appear when accessing the graph URLS (eg.
http://localhost/cgi-bin/bindgraph.cgi/bindgraph_1.png ):

ERROR:
RRDs::graph(/var/cache/bindgraph/,cgi-bin,bindgraph.cgi/bindgraph_1.png.tmp,
...): Garbage ': Thu Jan 24 15:10:00 2008graph created on Thu Jan 24
15:12:35 2008\r' after command:
COMMENT:last update: Thu Jan 24 15:10:00 2008graph created on Thu Jan 24
15:12:35 2008\r

After some searching with google, I determined that the error is caused
by unescaped colons (:) in the COMMENT field. This behavior was
changed in rrdtool 1.2.x -- previously this was not an error.

So, attached is a patch to fix bindgraph.cgi to work with the rrdtool
1.2.x series.

Bug#462406: ntop segfaults after about 20 minutes

2008-01-24 Thread Jason Martens
Package: ntop
Version: 3:3.2-8
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

On my system, ntop segfaults after about 20 minutes of operation. I ran
it with strace this last time, and the last lines are:

nanosleep({10, 0}, {0, 0}) = 0
nanosleep({10, 0}, {0, 0}) = 0
nanosleep({10, 0}, {0, 0}) = 0
nanosleep({10, 0}, 0xbf83f7c8) = ? ERESTART_RESTARTBLOCK (To be
restarted)
+++ killed by SIGSEGV +++
Process 5692 detached

I'm not sure what else to try, but it's completely unuseable for me now.
Let me know if there is any debugging I can do to help resolve the
problem.

Then it may be a different problem; 2.4.1 should be able to handle the

me?

Wonderful. BTW, don't worry about my last mail that raised the bug to
serious, I totally missed that package that wasn't built on amd64 (the
architecture I looked at gnome 1.x packages onto), hence the recent bug.
I won't blame you if you need some more time. The other gnome 1.x bugs I
filed were already 10 days old.

Bug#394239: testresources: FTBFS: Test failure

2008-01-24 Thread Barry deFreese

thank you

Hi,

I have prepared an NMU that seems to resolve this issue as well as
conform to the new python policy. I'm not quite sure exactly why it
works this way but using $(MAKE) check in rules works where calling
./test_all.py directly fails.

It includes some policy and lintian error clean-ups as well.

Thank you,

Barry deFreese

Those are the only strange mips-specific build failures I noticed.
Apparently the kernel flaw doesn't cause trouble for normal operation
of mips machines.

That was my impression as well, but it could also be caused by race
conditions like libtool checking for something while gcc gets upgraded
 or whatever.

I've asked zobel for a rebuild on IRC.
