Just following up reported problem with security patch has not
re-occurred since rebooting (and rerunning fix), and no problem with 2

also I meant nvidia-kernel-legacy-96xx-2.6.18-5-686 not "oldstable"

Bug#463961: Debian Bug 463961: evolution-exchange: when configuring evolution to connect to an Exchange server, the Forward button in the Evolution Setup Assistant is always greyed

2008-02-10 Thread Øystein Gisnås
I suggest you first ensure that:
1) evolution-exchange is installed
2) evolution-data-server and its libraries are version 1.12.3-1 (not
1.12.2-1+b1)

If so, we can continue investigating this.

Cheers,
Øystein

Bug#465171: more info

2008-02-10 Thread Thomas Bushnell BSG
Upon further experimentation, the crash only happens if the audio device
cannot be opened. This often happens for me if a java web app has
played sound first, because my java grabs audio.

It used to be that in such a circumstance rhythmbox would report an
error. Now it crashes badly. So this it's still a bug, and a
regression. But it could sensibly be marked important instead of grave
since it isn't as much a show-stopper as it seemed at first.

Bug#465171: all playback fails

2008-02-10 Thread Thomas Bushnell BSG
Package: rhythmbox
Version: 0.10.1-1+b3
Severity: grave

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Upon today's update in unstable rhythmbox seems to be entirely unable to
playback. This occurs for tracks in the music library (I have tried
both MP3 and OGG tracks), and for internet radio streams.

Attempting to play a track normally results in a bugbuddy window.
Sometimes (less frequently) the application freezes; clicking the close
button does not make it go away and the window manager has to kill it.

The bugbuddy crash details are as follows:

Distribution: Debian lenny/sid

Bug#462178: please remove this package

2008-02-10 Thread Raphael Geissert
reassign 462178 wnpp
retitle 462178 O: ipxripd -- IPX RIP/SAP daemon
thanks

Dear Holger,

This package is being tracked by me and its removal will be requested after
giving a grace period of time (more than one week) so there are more chances
for people to adopt it.
I orphaned the package just a few days ago, so please wait a little bit more.

Normally package removals should not be requested before two months since the
package has been orphaned. In the case of this package I'll request its
removal within two weeks.

Thanks for your effort anyway :)

Sincerely,

Nothing, obviously, just a typo. Go ahead and close the bug of course.

I think nothing of the kind would have happened if you had processed the
bug report in under three weeks. I'm sorry for the typo, but typos will
happen now and then, and it's easily fixed.

So, just understand. I never use pmount mounting /cdrom. I use mount as
it is in the fstab.

With eject switched to always using pumount also for drives mounted via
fstab this issue makes eject nearly unusable at all as the first reason
for eject is to eject a cdrom. (I know that there is more as ejecting
USB deice. But those use is much less common.)

Just mentioning that the hotfix mentioned here:

appeared to have wedged (crashed hard, frozen) my machine, an otherwise
very stable pentium 4 machine running 2.6.18-5-686 (with nvidia

Bug#462701: Debian grub: disabling savedefault

2008-02-10 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Hi all,

I experienced similar problems on my notebook (reiserfs /) sometimes
after using suspend-to-disk (uswsusp s2disk) - and it's perfectly OK to
have an unclean / in that case and last week also on a server at my
parents place (several hundred km away from me) that hang in grub after
a power failure.

The solution to this problem is a patch proposed in bug #393079
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=393079
that allows disabling the savedefault line via the automagic kernel
configuration.

I think that you chose 1310724 in the code because it needs to be
divisible by 4 for devio to perform the endian swap in the next line.

Subject: /etc/resolv.conf overwitte with broken version ("domain" instead of
"search")
Package: dhcp3-client
Version: 3.1.0-2
Severity: important

Since a few weeks, my /etc/resolv.conf is overwritten by a broken
version after the network link has been up for a few hours. I suspect
this might be related to this recent change in dhcp3-client:

  * debian/dhclient-script.{linux,kfreebsd}: if the domain-name option is set,
set "domain" in /etc/resolv.conf, if the domain-search option is set, set
"search" in /etc/resolv.conf

When I first connect to a network link (via NetworkManager),
networkmanager writes a correct resolve.conf like this:

| # generated by NetworkManager, do not edit!
| search baz.lan zoetekouw.net zoetekouw.net. vpn.zoetekouw.net.
| nameserver 192.168.1.11

where "baz.lan zoetekouw.net" originates from the dhcp server, and
"zoetekouw.net. vpn.zoetekouw.net." from my /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf:

| append domain-name " zoetekouw.net. vpn.zoetekouw.net. ";
| request subnet-mask, broadcast-address, time-offset, routers,
| domain-name, domain-name-servers, host-name,
| netbios-name-servers, netbios-scope, interface-mtu;

The lease I get is (from /var/lib/dhcp3/dhclient.eth1.leases):

| lease {
|   interface "eth1";
|   fixed-address 192.168.1.13;
|   option subnet-mask 255.255.255.0;
|   option routers 192.168.1.11;
|   option dhcp-lease-time 86400;
|   option dhcp-message-type 5;
|   option domain-name-servers 192.168.1.11;
|   option dhcp-server-identifier 192.168.1.11;
|   option domain-name "baz.lan zoetekouw.net zoetekouw.net. vpn.zoetekouw.net.
";
|   renew 6 2008/01/26 06:06:02;
|   rebind 6 2008/01/26 16:02:25;
|   expire 6 2008/01/26 19:02:25;
| }

Now, when the links is kept up long enough, /etc/resolv.conf is
overwritten by:

| domain baz.lan zoetekouw.net zoetekouw.net. vpn.zoetekouw.net.
| nameserver 192.168.1.11

Note the "domain" instead of "search" and the misschien second
"zoetekouw.net" entry. This resolv.conf is not written by
NetworkManager, as it lacks the netwokmanager "do not edit" comment.

I think this might be written by dhcp3-client when the lease is
renewed. I'm not entirely sure though, but I can;t think of any other
program that might be messing with resolv.conf.

Any idea what could be the problem?

The backtrace is attached.

The megahal.brn file that it tries to open doesn't exists. Maybe it is
trying to make some read/write operation on it without checking if it
has been correctly opened?

i verified the checksums of the openarena and openarena-data package on
the mirror you are using and tried an installation of openarena from
that mirror using aptitude. the installation worked as expected without
errors and the checksums of the package files are correct, so i would
suggest that you follow ansgar's instructions. there must have gone
something wrong, while APT was trying to download the package files to
your local hard disk.

please tell us, if ansgar's instructions helped you out to install the
packages, so we can close the bug!

2008-02-10 21:48:43 status installed snmpd 5.4.1~dfsg-6

..and now phpldapadmin works. I guess this means a dependency in some of the

Bug#462950: evolution 2.12.3-1 crashes on S/MIME messages

It's not really anything wrong with the exchange package, but rather
with the 2.12.2-1+b1 and 1.12.2-1+b1 versions of evolution and
evolution-data-server, respectively. As you point out, the fixed
version 1.12.3-1 of evolution-data-server got stuck in sid, and hasn't
propagated to testing yet. As soon as that happens, the problem will
go away. I leave this bug on evo-exchange until the transition has
happened.

Cheers,
Øystein

The 2.12.2-1+b1 and 1.12.2-1+b1 versions of evolution and
evolution-data-server, respectively, were broken. Fixed versions
(2.12.3 and 1.12.3) of both packages are uploaded to sid, but
unfortunately 1.12.3 got stuck and hasn't propagated to testing.

If you have problems with this, force apt to use the version from sid.
I reassign this bug to evolution-data-server to show that the buggy
package you struggle with is evolution-data-server 1.12.2-1+b1.

I have seen similar behavior where attempted moving of messages ends
up with message being deleted (or moved to trash) at the source folder
but never ends up at the target folder. There may be various reasons
for that, but any general failure on the target side (think: pull the
plug of the target mailserver) would give this, I think. As long as
Evolution doesn't have proper transaction support for moving email,
this will be more or less a problem. With proper error messages and a
message instance in the trash, the user can cover up for the problem.

I will therefore ask you to describe scenarios you have where (a) the
message doesn't end up i trash, or (b) no error message is shown. Try
to make it as easy as possible to reproduce the problem.

Cheers,
Øystein

Bug#445016: sources

2008-02-10 Thread Andrzej Zięba

Package: athcool
Version: 0.3.11-1.1

I have built the package from sources and I got executable that does not
need the libpci2. The problem is that the package does not build from
the sources without a problem. I had to add -lz to the LIBS variable in
the makefile to make it link properly.

Andrzej Zięba

BTW, 1310724 seems to be 131072 * 10 + 4 rather than +1 as the comment
claims. I wonder why I made that mistake.

> Shouldn't 1310724 be 1441792 otherwise the script will fail with a
> kernel size of 1337692?

No, if the kernel is larger than 1310724 it won't get padded but this
is not important since slugimage needs to round up to a full block
anyway, and 1310724 is more than 10 blocks so it will take 11 blocks,
which is what we want

Apparently slugimage allocates 11 blocks when you give it a file with
1310705 bytes.  This makes sense since 131072 * 10 - 16 = 1310704
(- 16 because of the header).

In summary, I believe any value between 1310705 and 1441776 will work.
Right, I just tested this. Maybe we should pad to 1310705 then.

It looks like we need to update
installer/build/config/arm/ixp4xx/netboot.cfg. Specifically,

# Let's pad the kernel to 131072 * 10 + 1 so it will be rounded up
# by slugimage to 131072 * 11, i.e. 11 blocks.
util/arm/nslu2/pad $(TEMP)/$(KERNELNAME).nslu2 1310724

Shouldn't 1310724 be 1441792 otherwise the script will fail with a
kernel size of 1337692?

This looks strange to me. Apt wants to download 271 MB, but only
downloads 709kB. Is the openarena-data package in
/var/cache/apt/archives?

If there is a file, check the size and maybe try to download it again
(just move it somewhere else or delete it).

The exact same problem is present both in Django's

Version: 2.6.24-3
Severity: serious

Once again this image has gotten too large to fit in flash on the nslu2.

-rw-r--r--  1 root root 1265484 Nov 13 04:56 vmlinuz-2.6.22-3-ixp4xx
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 1337692 Feb  7 14:04 vmlinuz-2.6.24-1-ixp4xx

The "Kernel" mtd block device on the nslu2 is 1310720 bytes. After padding
with 32 bytes, the kernel image is 27004 bytes too large to fit on it.

Suggest disabling something bloatful until it fits again..

When using postgresql-8.3 I've got the following version number :

The exact same problem is present both in Django's
db/backends/postgresql_psycopg2/ and db/backends/postgresql/

Should probably be reported upstream.

On one of my production servers to see if I was vulnerable. The
configuration of which is:

* 4 Intel Xeon Processors (old P4 kind)
* 4GB RAM
* 15 Xen domains

I hope that it a useful enough description.

Are you sure? Because I'm pretty sure the exploit caused Xen (or at
least the dom0) to crash even though it was run in a domU.

Bug#454212: megahal segfaults as soon as it's launched

2008-02-10 Thread Niko Tyni
> Confirmed using etch i386 (though an amd64 processor). Attached output
> of megahal and strace.

The attached patch fixes a stack corruption issue on 64-bit architectures
(reading 8 bytes into a 4-byte buffer) and an off-by-one sprintf overflow
in the error and status file name initialization code.

The stack corruption makes megahal reliably crash for me on amd64 every
time it tries to load a saved dictionary.

However, the original problem is on i386 and happens earlier in the
initialization code. I can't reproduce it myself, but I think it might
well be caused by the sprintf overflow. Note that Neil's strace in

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?msg=27;filename=megahal.trace.log;att=1;bug=454212

has

 open("/home/nmcgovern/.megahal/megahal.logi", O_WRONLY|O_APPEND|O_CREAT, 0666)
= 3

and

-rw-r--r--  1 nmcgovern users  380 2007-12-19 11:37 megahal.logi?

while the intended filename is "megahal.log". So there's definitely at
least some corruption happening here.

Could somebody (Neil?) try if the bug persists with this patch?

Cheers,

Freezing logjam at this point does not freeze your entire desktop, it
just locks your input devices. Killing logjam from a console releases

Are you sure about this? I'm pretty sure the official Debian images
use 1441792 bytes for the Kernel partition. Maybe you flashed your

Bug#457423: marked as done (xfonts-wqy: Unconditionally deletes conffile during upgrade)

2008-02-10 Thread Debian Bug Tracking System

Package: xfonts-wqy
Version: 0.9.9-2
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 10.7.3

The postinst script in 0.9.9-2 checks the old fontconfig settings in
/etc/fonts/conf.d/ and cleans them up during upgrade. However, the way
it is handled violates the policy requirement about conffiles.

Quote policy 10.7.3: "Configuration file handling must conform to the
following behavior: ... local changes must be preserved during a package
upgrade ...".

However, in xfonts-wqy's postinst:
# Clean up old config files
if dpkg --compare-versions "$2" lt-nl 0.9.9; then
rm -f $CONFDIR/wqy.conf
fi
This will delete the /etc/fonts/conf.d/wqy.conf conffile even if it's
locally modified.

Although user modification of this file is not very likely, it's
nonetheless a conffile already shipped in etch. And I think upgrades
between stable releases should be treated very seriously. The fix is
also not very hard, the script just need to check the md5sum of the
conffile, something like the examples in [1].

I'm not sure there's a solution for #456971 yet, although I heard
rumours the problem is fixed in a newer upstream release.

Daniel, did you have any chance to look into this issue? This is
getting really important because many packages fail to compile with
gcc 4.3 because of this.

Bug#465102: logjam: Logjam and GNOME desktop freezes on selecting community post using keyboard navigation

2008-02-10 Thread Sajith T S
Package: logjam
Version: 4.5.3-3
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

I can reproduce this consistently using the following steps:

 - Start logjam
 - Use keyboard navigation to select "Journal -> Use Journal -> debian"
 - press spacebar to select post to debian community in www.livejournal.com.

Everything freezes at this moment, including GNOME desktop. I have
not tested it with other desktops or other keyboard navigation steps,
I can do that if that is necessary.

Selecting the said menu item with mouse or trackpad works normally.

Initially I suspected this could be a problem with some shaky USB
thing I attached to my laptop; but that isn't the case since this
crash can be reproduced even with the said hardware disconnected.

  On that road, we'd like to remove gnome-print, and your package is the
last one depending upon it, and removal of gnome-print has been filed

  Actually, even worse, your package is the sole blocker for libgtk-perl
and libglade removals (which has been filed). Please migrate your
package to perl-gtk2 or ask for its removal.

Package: mailscanner

Does anybody know how to resolve this problem?

Is it related to the following debconf setting?

If so, how can I change that?

Thanks for any support

Kind regards,

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I already tried this as well. I redid
everything with the explicite commands that you suggested and the
problem is still there (same error).

Additionally, I also think that it cannot be related to the module as the
VirtualBox GUI should even start without any module present (neither loaded
nor even installed).

I also gave the binary-only innotek package a tried and it works (same
kernel, ...). So I guess it cannot be a general problem.

Thanks,

Michael

Bug#465028: not only amd64

2008-02-10 Thread Patrick Winnertz
Please note that this error is not only available on amd64 machines, but
also on my i386 laptop.
virtualbox fails with the failure described in #465029.

Atm I'm checking if a rebuild of virtualbox helps to get rid of this issue.

Greetings

Ok, since liblzo1 works fine, and it is GPLv2+ AFAICT, I'm downgrading the
dependency untill we have a better solution.

Would be nice if you can ping me when that happens.

plone-site (plone 2.5.x serie) was using zope2.9, so I suppose you moved
everything from /var/lib/zope2.9/instance/plone-site, is it correct?

Anyway, could you please send my the tar.gz of
/var/lib/zope2.10/instance/plone3-site (without the Data.fs*, of course) so
I can inspect it?

Thanks,
