Bug#472103: sugar segfaults with python-cairo 1.4.14 (1.4.0 is ok)
Package: python-cairo Version: 1.4.12-1 Severity: grave Tags: security Justification: user security hole The Sugar environment segfaults when used with python-cairo 1.4.14. You should be able to reproduce like this: 1. Install the packages "sugar" and "xserver-xephyr". 2. Run "sugar-emulator" as normal user from an X11 terminal-emulator 3. Type in your name when requested 4. Switch to console or another virtual desktop and do "killall Xephyr" 5. Switch back again: There's a segfault. Using python-cairo 1.4.0-1 works fine. Recompiling python-cairo 1.4.0-1 against libcairo 1.4.14 works fine too. Both amd64 and i386 system segfaults, so probably different bug than earlier reported. Applying the following patch (which reverts what seems to be the only major change between 1.4.0 and 1.4.14) fixes the problem too: --- pycairo-1.4.12.orig/cairo/pycairo-context.c +++ pycairo-1.4.12/cairo/pycairo-context.c @@ -82,6 +82,8 @@ return NULL; } +if (type == NULL) +type = &PycairoContext_Type; o = PycairoContext_Type.tp_alloc (type, 0); if (o) { ((PycairoContext *)o)->ctx = ctx; It seems from the changelog that the above causes other problems, but still I believe it is a major bug that the program segfaults when provided wrong input. Also, it would sure be nice with some hints on how to change old working code when the interface changes like this (I tried locating in sugar code or in hippocanvas what triggers this bug, but without luck so far...). - Jonas -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.25-rc6-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=da_DK.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=da_DK.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages python-cairo depends on: ii libc6 2.7-9 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.4.14-1 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii python2.4.4-6An interactive high-level object-o ii python-central0.6.1 register and build utility for Pyt python-cairo recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". It is especially useful for allowing access to any available command via one primary menu entry. I'll request archive removal, I don't think we need to waste time with it. But this is a nice example why we need to be more careful about fringe packages of poor quality: they don't receive any review for practical purposes. This package has been in the archive for ten years and the error is not exactly hard to find, since the package is ridiculously small: (the 165 lines even include generated MOC) SLOCDirectory SLOC-by-Language (Sorted) 165 top_dir cpp=165 6 debian sh=6 0 doc (none) Totals grouped by language (dominant language first): cpp:165 (96.49%) sh: 6 (3.51%) Cheers, Moritz -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.24-1-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=C, [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages xexec depends on: ii libc6 2.7-9 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libgcc1 1:4.3.0-1 GCC support library ii libqt3-mt 3:3.3.8b-4 Qt GUI Library (Threaded runtime v ii libstdc++64.3.0-1The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-6 2:1.0.3-7 X11 client-side library ii libxext6 2:1.0.4-1 X11 miscellaneous extension librar xexec recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#472043: [Python-modules-team] Bug#472043: python-scipy: ftbfs with python-central 0.6
Hi all, > Thanks for the bug report. Could you please specify in more details > what is wrong? The 0.6.0-10 version fixed exactly the problem you > are reporting, so as far as I know, all is fine now with python-scipy. > > According to the build logs: > > http://buildd.debian.org/pkg.cgi?pkg=python-scipy > > It builds just fine on all architectures where the actual built has occured. This is what I think happened: doko did the check 1-2 days ago (with the bugged source package, I'd say -9) but reported only today (so the pkg version is -10, the one that fixed the FTBFS). Hence, I think this bug report can be closed. Correct me if I'm wrong ;) Kindly, Sandro -- Sandro Tosi (aka morph, Morpheus, matrixhasu) My website: http://matrixhasu.altervista.org/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Could you please specify in more details what is wrong? The 0.6.0-10 version fixed exactly the problem you are reporting, so as far as I know, all is fine now with python-scipy. According to the build logs: http://buildd.debian.org/pkg.cgi?pkg=python-scipy It builds just fine on all architectures where the actual built has occured. Bug#471617: FTBFS in sbuild only
Well, I raised this on #debian-devel again, and since I think "python2.5 | python (>=2.5)"[1] is just a workaround[2], I was told to forget about Debian Python policy's spirit ("make your package in a way that you will not need additional upload [except binNMUs] once new Python version will be added or removed from supported Python versions list"[3]), *always* use python2.5 in shebang (at least before python2.5 will be default in Debian) and reassign sbuild's bug to policy (asking to forbid alternate dependencies there). Noah, since I don't want your package to suffer from this, please use python2.5 (only! - without the stuff before the "|") in Build-Depends-Indep and I will upload it. [1] please note the order [2] think what will happen once python2.6 will be default [3] in this case, we will need additional upload once python2.5 will be removed from the distribution. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#472074: Should annoyance-filter be dropped?
Package: annoyance-filter Severity: serious When fixing GCC 4.3 issues I ran into annoyance-filter. I believe it should rather be dropped from Lenny: - Last maintainer upload from 2004 - Dead upstream (latest commits three years ago) - Crashes on some spam messages (#275205) - Not functional out of the box (#408139) The popcon score is very low and Debian isn't actually short of Bayes filters, which work properly. Yes, it's true. The problem is the libpcrecpp0 version. Updating it subtitleeditor should work again. I was cooking a new package one week ago. I hope to upload this weekend. This bug was fixed there. Efectively I put how minimal version the number 7.6.2 for libpcrecpp0. Thank you very much. PS I know alternate build dependencies are evil, but they *are* useful sometimes too!

Bug#464704: Some things I've found out
The symbol _ZN7pcrecpp6no_argE is found in the libpcrecpp.so library, that is provided by libpcrecpp0 package. The version of subtitleeditor present in sid works correctly with the libpcrecpp0 package present in sid, but the "undefined symbol" error happens both with the lenny version and the lenny security version. With sid's version (7.6-2): $ objdump -T /usr/lib/libpcrecpp.so.0.0.0 | grep _ZN7pcrecpp6no_argE 8968 gDO .bss 0008 Base_ZN7pcrecpp6no_argE With lenny's security version (7.4-1+lenny1): $ objdump -T /usr/lib/libpcrecpp.so.0.0.0 | grep _ZN7pcrecpp6no_argE 88d8 gDO .bss 0008 Base_ZN7pcrecpp6no_argE With lenny's version (7.4-1): $ objdump -T /usr/lib/libpcrecpp.so.0.0.0 | grep _ZN7pcrecpp6no_argE 88d8 gDO .bss 0008 Base_ZN7pcrecpp6no_argE I'm not sure if the variation in the location of the symbol makes any difference, but the symbol is definitely there. I don't know too much about this, but I suspect that dependency information provided by libpcrecpp should indicate 7.6 instead of what gets stored in the Depends line of subtitleeditor: Depends: (...), libpcre3 (>= 7.4), libpcrecpp0, (...) -- Besos, Maggie. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#472051: hippo-canvas: ftbfs with python-central 0.6
Package: hippo-canvas Version: 0.2.23-2 Severity: serious Usertags: ftbfs-new-pycentral python-central 0.6 uses now a package and tool independent directory to store the architecture independent files. Please fix the packaging to work with the new file locations.
