This library linking option "-ldc1394_control" is added by
libavdevice-dev via its pkg-config file

/usr/lib/pkgconfig/libavdevice.pc

(Note: ffmpeg2theora Build-Depends on libavdevice-dev)

It looks like the dependencies of libavdevice-dev are a bit messed up
as follows:
 - libavdevice-dev Depends on libavdevice52
 - libavdevice52 Depends on libdc1394-13 (*Note*: not libdc1394-22)
 - libavdevice-dev Depends on libavformat-dev
 - libavformat-dev Depends on libavcodec-dev
 - libavcodec-dev Depends on libdc1394-22-dev | libdc1394-13-dev

The file /usr/lib/libdc1394_control.a ships with libdc1394-13-dev but
it does not ship with libdc1394-22-dev.

So either:
 - libavcodec-dev should only Depend on libdc1394-13-dev
 or
 - the file /usr/lib/pkgconfig/libavdevice.pc that ships with
libavdevice-dev should not explicitly add -llibdc1394_control
   to the build flags.

In either case, I expect the build of ffmpeg2theora would work.

Both these fixes are to ffmpeg-debian source package.

I could make the build of ffmpeg2theora explicitly depend on
libdc1394-13-dev, but I think that this would be the wrong place for
the fix.

As a consequence, I think this bug is actually in the source of
ffmpeg-debian. I am re-assigning to that package but I am open to
alternative suggestions.

Regards,

Kapil.

Bug#490368: yum: more information re: python-pyme

2008-07-11 Thread C. Scott Ananian
Package: yum
Version: 3.2.12-1.1
Followup-For: Bug #490368

I confirmed that it is python-pyme 0.8.0-1 which killed yum. Manually
downgrading to python-pyme 0.7.0-4 fixes the problem. Before downgrading
python-pym, 'import yum' in python gives:

Python 2.5.2 (r252:60911, Jun 25 2008, 17:58:32)
[GCC 4.3.1] on linux2
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> import yum

import misc
  File "/var/lib/python-support/python2.5/yum/misc.py", line 19, in
import pyme.gpgme
ImportError: No module named gpgme

The release notes for python-pyme 0.8.0 at
http://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?group_id=104883&release_id=588323
state:

  * Change name of the internal GPGME wrapper package
from 'gpgme' to 'pygpgme' to avoid conflict with
gpgme.dll library on Windows.

So it looks like yum.misc (and other places) will have to be patched slightly
to replace 'pyme.gpgme' with 'pyme.pygpgme' if yum is to work correctly with
python-pyme 0.8.0.

Just fix this-- or have Debian known not only as the distro that went

I'm still working on adodb - the initial patch is non-functional and I'm
working to see what Gallery needs from adodb so it can use the system
adodb.

good point!!! sorry for the noise.

I'm using debian-multimedia and after send the bug I realise that something
was wrong with the version of the packages. The maintainers are:

that was my mistake.

what about adodb? I just double checked the files, the are just copied over
without modifications. Policy violation for embedded code copies are bad and
I think you don't want to be assassinated by Security Team. :)

Hi

Thanks for the report. This problem is independent of vnc4 version as this is
a problem introduced by new gcc.

Oops sorry, I did everything to quick in the last few days...

I am using one of the machines from the esiee cluster:

Linux magnum 2.6.22.14 #1 SMP Tue Nov 27 12:00:31 CET 2007 parisc64
GNU/Linux

4 PA8800 (Mako) CPUs

linux-libc-dev

After a few more tests, I am not that sure it comes from there. It looks
like the 3 failed / 3 successful build I had were not statistically
enough. I'll work again on that problem at the beginning of next week.

Yes, that's exactly what I am using.

my sbuild installs stuff in
/tmp/buildd/kdepim-3.5.9/debian/tmp//usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/kdepim-4-apidocs/kdgantt
While pbuilder installs stuff the same dir, except
s/kdepim-4-apidocs/kdepim-docs/

The first line where you can see this difference is:
make[3]: Nothing to be done for `install-exec-am'.
mkdir -p --
/tmp/buildd/kdepim-3.5.9/debian/tmp//usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/kdepim-4-apidocs/kdgantt/html
/usr/bin/install -c -p -m 644 ../apidocs/kdgantt/kdgantt.tag
/tmp/buildd/kdepim-3.5.9/debian/tmp//usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/kdepim-4-apidocs/kdgantt
installing ../apidocs/kdgantt/html

Does this ring a bell, or should I investigate further?

kdegames fails in the exact same way.

Package: iceweasel
Version: 2.0.0.14-0etch1
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

The following steps are necessary to reproduce this problem:
1. Log-in on your Gmail account
2. Open Gmail chat with any other user
3. Press the "pop-out" button
4. Close the pop-out window
Doing so, you should see Iceweasel (Forefox) crash

While it is possible that Google relies on some non-standard feature,
the crash itself indicates the secutiry problem inside of Iceweasel.
I have tried with Firefox 2.10.15 with the same result. Also, I have
heard from a friend of mine that the problem exists with Firefox 2.0
on Windows XP. So, the problem is not Debian specific, yet the problem
indicates the present a potential security hold inside of the browser,
which should be addressed.

There is no such packages in debian sid (or experimental)

Let me redo the following statement:

If you're using unofficial packages, you are on your own.

If it works, you're lucky. If it doesn't, reinstall the official
packages or bug whoever maintains the packages you use.

Bug#469593: I'm giving up gdebi

2008-07-11 Thread Gustavo Franco
Hi,

This is the first message I ever get from you buddy, what's up? People
answered Rafael in the bug.

Ian Jackson asked me weeks ago and is supposed to be working on an
NMU. Michael Vogt is both upstream and co-maintainer as well. You have
noticed it's problematic in Intrepid, so people may be working on to
fix it and that's a good thing it isn't Lenny as you also pointed out.

Thanks for your help on this and other RCs, really.

Bug#469593: I'm giving up gdebi

2008-07-11 Thread Mert Dirik
I've worked on gdebi hard but gdebi-gtk just doesn't work. I've tried 0.3.5 from
unstable, 0.3.11 from Intrepid, and they don't work. It's hell buggy package,
and its maintainer is MIA. So I think lenny is better without it.

That's enough. I'm giving up it. I want to work another RC instead of wasting my

It fails during <10% of the builds. It failed at least once for gcc-4.3,
gnat-4.3, gcj-4.3. I never saw that failure with g{cc,nat,cj} << 4.3.

I don't think it's a non-issue, I think it's just a rare issue that
might be related to broken parallel build support, maybe.

But OK, I will just ignore those failures.

You are supporting parallel builds in debian/rules, but your
debian/rules file probably has broken dependancies. Your package builds
in less than 3 minutes, I don't think that it's useful to support
parallel building. Just remove those lines from your debian/rules:
ifneq (,$(filter parallel=%,$(DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS)))
NUMJOBS = $(patsubst parallel=%,%,$(filter
parallel=%,$(DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS)))
MAKEFLAGS += -j$(NUMJOBS)
endif

Bug#482894: Please, open again the bug

2008-07-11 Thread Leopold Palomo Avellaneda
Sorry,

but I don't think that the bug is closed. vlc complains about:

 ...
[0001] main private warning: cannot load module
`/usr/lib/vlc/codec/libffmpeg_plugin.so'
(/usr/lib/vlc/codec/libffmpeg_plugin.so: undefined symbol: img_resample)

so is searching "img_resample" in the /usr/lib/vlc/codec/libffmpeg_plugin.so.
I have tried to build my own package, but I have realised that the ffmpeg
version suplied in sid is compiled without that:

checking for img_resample in -lavcodec... no
configure: error: Your FFmpeg library doesn't have the needed img_resample()
function. You should rebuild it with software scaler disabled
make: *** [build-stamp] Error 1

I'm using:
ii ffmpeg 3:20080706-0.2
audio/video encoder, streaming server & audi
ii libavdevice523:20080706-0.2
ffmpeg device handling library
ii libavformat523:20080706-0.2
ffmpeg file format library
ii libswscale0 3:20080706-0.2
ffmpeg video scaling library

so, if you are not providing a ffmpeg library with that option enable, or you
cannot build vlc, or if you provide it, it fails.

Provably its a bug of ffmpeg.

Regards,

Leo

rolling in some other fixes (see CVS debian/changelog for PENDING

No, iceweasel-dbg only needs to be installed when you start gdb.

ok, I'll do, but it will take "some" time (I'll download it in the night)

does it need iceweasel-dbg to be installed on the system before I
started the current instances or not? (jsut to know if I have to
restart iceweasel once -dbg is installed or not).

Install iceweasel-dbg and gdb (though i think iceweasel-dbg will be
useless), and attach gdb to the hanging iceweasel:
gdb -p $(pidof firefox-bin)

Then, on the gdb prompt, type bt full and send the output here.

My guess is that the process is frozen in the flash plugin.

I am not sure why it builds failed on your server. could you please
help? Maybe try to rebuild it again?

Justification: iceweasel says it is incompatible

When starting iceweasel 3.0 with torbutton installed, iceweasel says
that it is incompatible and disables it. I think you will need to
upgrade it to 1.2.0rc1 in Debian.

I see that patches for this and other bugs are already in the CVS
mentioned in the VCS-CVS field. Any reason they are not uploaded yet?

BTW, you could also give a VCS-Browser field with value:
http://djvu.cvs.sourceforge.net/djvu/djview/
That would have spared me the need to find out for myself ;)

This is a known issue -- we're planning to make a couple of announcements with
a recommended workaround (attached, but pretty much the same as what you
suggest), and try to get it into the next stable point release.

This should be fixed in e2fsprogs 1.41.0, which I uploaded to unstable.

The problem is the #include of ss/ss_err.h was moved under the #ifdef
DEBUG, but the Makefile's depdency list was regenerated using "make
depend". I have confirmed that this is fixed in e2fsprogs 1.41.0.

The merge didn't cause this bug to be closed together with #489744 as
BTS documentation implies, so I'm hereby closing it manually.

The full build log is available from:
   http://people.debian.org/~lucas/logs/2008/06/19

This rebuild was done with gcc 4.3 instead of gcc 4.2, because gcc 4.3
is now the default on most architectures (even if it's not the case on
i386 yet). Consequently, many failures are caused by the switch to gcc
4.3.
If you determine that this failure is caused by gcc 4.3, feel free to
downgrade this bug to 'important' if your package is only built on i386,
and this bug is specific to gcc 4.3 (i.e the package builds fine with
gcc 4.2).

A list of current common problems and possible solutions is available at
http://wiki.debian.org/qa.debian.org/FTBFS . You're welcome to contribute!

About the archive rebuild: The rebuild was done on about 50 AMD64 nodes
of the Grid'5000 platform, using a clean chroot containing a sid i386
environment. Internet was not accessible from the build systems.

Hi,

During a rebuild of all packages in sid, your package failed to build on
i386.

This rebuild was done with gcc 4.3 instead of gcc 4.2, because gcc 4.3
is now the default on most architectures (even if it's not the case on
i386 yet). Consequently, many failures are caused by the switch to gcc
4.3.
If you determine that this failure is caused by gcc 4.3, feel free to
downgrade this bug to 'important' if your package is only built on i386,
and this bug is specific to gcc 4.3 (i.e the package builds fine with
gcc 4.2).

4.3.
If you determine that this failure is caused by gcc 4.3, feel free to
downgrade this bug to 'important' if your package is only built on i386,
and this bug is specific to gcc 4.3 (i.e the package builds fine with
gcc 4.2).

Seems there is also a deadlock between esddsp and libjemalloc, like with aoss.

Bug#490340: [python-qt3] segfaults when calling QTextBrowser.setText()

2008-07-11 Thread Bastian Venthur

Package: python-qt3
Version: 3.17.4-1
Severity: grave

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Hi,

since two weeks reportbug-ng, which uses python-qt3, segfaults very
often. I've investigated the problem and think the problem comes from
the qt3-bindings or some of it's underlying libs.

The problem appears very often when reportbug-ng tries to show a
bugreport in it's internal browser via

  QTextBrowser.setText(somehtml)

I've tried to get more info via gdb. Here is a typical stack trace:

(gdb) run /usr/bin/rng

I noticed that almost everytime something about Fonts is in the very
first line, like QFontMetrics::width() or ::lineSpacing() or something.

I also noticed that this happens almost only when html text is involved.
If I just provide plain text, the segfaults are very rare.

I've attached a small script where you can test it your self. Start it
with some text (html or plain) as parameter:

  python crash.py "some text"
  python crash.py "some evil text

while the first call will crash very seldom, the second one should cause
a segfault roughly every second time you call it.

I've set the severity to grave since it causes other programs to crash.
I could be possible, that not python-qt3 but one if it's underlying libs
is the problem but I'm not sure, so I'm assigning it to your package.
I've already asked on d-devel and someone pointed out that this problem
could be related to the new GCC version and some optimization flags.
I've already build python-qt3 with -g -O0 but without success.

Cheers,

Bastian

Please try running:
ICEWEASEL_DSP=none iceweasel
and
MOZILLA_NO_JEMALLOC=1 iceweasel

Does any of the two (or both) start?

Mike
