According to the FHS[1], « /var/cache is intended for cached data from applications. Such data is locally generated as a result of time-consuming I/O or calculation. The application must be able to regenerate or restore the data. Unlike /var/spool, the cached files can be deleted without data loss. » IMHO, neither the hosted repositories nor the gitosis config match this definition. Bug#484538: [mutt] Sidebar does not indicate always new messages; it works only when corresponding folder is open
forwarded 484538 [EMAIL PROTECTED] severity 484538 important thanks Hi Terry, we are having some trouble with the sidebar patch in the Debian package, notably it seems to break detecting new mail in maildir folders. I don't use the patch myself, so I can't say much about the impact, but Stefano usually right in what he's saying. Stefano, while this is certainly a "bad" bug, I'm downgrading it to important again as it does not have any impact on the main mutt package, and does not break any other feature from the mutt-patched package (there are none) (, and doesn't make the package completely useless... somehow). I'll be on vacation for the next two weeks, if there's a fix, please feel free to upload a new mutt version. I've added you to the pkg-mutt project on alioth, so you should even be able to commit to the bzr repository there. On the other hand, if someone thinks this is a RC bug, and is not fixable before the Lenny freeze, I opt we drop the mutt-patched package again. debian/rules has a switch BUILD_PATCHED that should suffice to lobotomize the build. As said, I'll be on vac, a NMU would be very welcome by any interested party. Christoph -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] | http://www.df7cb.de/ signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#479751: azureus: Requires Sun Java
Since openjdk is now available in main, wouldn't that be the best solution? It would if it was in lenny but unfortunately openjdk was delayed hugely by license issues :(. Now we have a situation where afiact openjdk will only make it into lenny if one of the following happens. *The "rc" bug (491362) that is open against openjdk gets downgraded (I beleive it should be downgraded but as a non-dd I don't belive it is my place to downgrade a bug based on an unclear bit of the rc policy) and openjdk slots in just before the freeze (btw is there any actual date set for that or is it just "sometime next week" *The rc bug is fixed and the release team makes a freeze exception or an urgent hint to get openjdk in before the freeze *the freeze is delayed ccing debian-release to get thier opinion on what the chances are for openjdk making it into lenny. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#474736: Downgrading Bug#474736 to important

As I stated in the original bug report, I don't quite agree with the security hole characterization of this bug, as it is essentially imposible for liferea to detect a hijacked feed. This bug is currently the only reason for liferea not to be in lenny. Since upstream has stated that the 1.4 series will *not* be updated to deal with this issue, and I lack the time for now to attempt a backport, this means a fix for this will not be ready before the freeze. Would I be justified in downgrading this to important? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#491487: apt-cross: infinite recursion in dependency calculation
Package: apt-cross Version: 0.11.0 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable The conflict resolution functions added in 0.11.0 are borked and under certain circumstances (e.g. installing the cross-dependencies for e2fsprogs or packages that depend on libgtk2.0-0) apt-cross can descend into an infinite recursive loop and/or try to install the entire Debian archive as cross-dependencies. The conflict resolution code does work in certain (limited) situations in 0.11.0 but the breakage prevents apt-cross from finding a usable cross-dependency solution in situations where 0.10.0 would have been successful. I do have a fix, which I am currently testing. I am filing this bug for three reasons: 1. The usual purpose - create a record of the problem to help others 2. 0.10.0 in testing works up to the point where conflict resolution would otherwise be needed. 0.11.0 breaks in situations where 0.10.0 would work. 0.11.0 is therefore a regression from previous behaviour and testing should be protected from the regression. 3. To ensure that 0.12.0 is correctly viewed as an RC release so that the version of apt-cross in Lenny can have conflict resolution support. Learning the lesson from this incident, wider testing is now under way to ensure that the fix currently in SVN is correct. -- Package-specific info: -- apt-cache policy -- Package files: 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status release a=now 500 http://www.emdebian.org unstable/main Packages release v=0.1,o=Debian,a=unstable,l=Emdebian-tools-unstable,c=main origin www.emdebian.org 500 ftp://ftp.fr.debian.org unstable/main Packages release o=Debian,a=unstable,l=Debian,c=main origin ftp.fr.debian.org Pinned packages: -- /etc/apt/sources.list -- deb ftp://ftp.fr.debian.org/debian/ unstable main deb-src ftp://ftp.fr.debian.org/debian/ unstable main #deb http://www.linux.codehelp.co.uk/packages unstable main #deb-src http://www.linux.codehelp.co.uk/packages unstable main #deb ftp://mirror.ox.ac.uk/debian/ experimental main #deb-src ftp://mirror.ox.ac.uk/debian/ experimental main #deb http://www.linux.codehelp.co.uk/packages experimental main #deb-src http://www.linux.codehelp.co.uk/packages experimental main -- /etc/apt/sources.list.d/emdebian.sources.list -- # The Emdebian toolchain repository deb http://www.emdebian.org/debian/ unstable main deb-src http://www.emdebian.org/debian/ unstable main -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.25-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages apt-cross depends on: ii apt 0.7.14+b1 Advanced front-end for dpkg ii dpkg-cross 2.3.0 tools for cross compiling Debian p ii dpkg-dev 1.14.20 Debian package development tools ii libcache-apt-perl0.11.0 object oriented apt cache perl bin ii libterm-progressbar-perl 2.09-5 Perl module to print a progress ba ii libwww-perl 5.813-1 WWW client/server library for Perl ii perl 5.10.0-11.1 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction ii sudo 1.6.9p17-1 Provide limited super user privile apt-cross recommends no packages. apt-cross suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#475958: reassign
submitter 475958 ! retitle 475958 document procedure to recover from "/dev/hda became /dev/sda" boot failure reassign 475958 release-notes thanks Hi, Not sure if this is mentioned already. But if it's not, it most likely can benefit from an update as per the introduction of UUID support in GRUB. In case user runs into the common "/dev/hda became /dev/sda" boot failure trouble during upgrade, she can solve it with relative ease by simply removing /boot/grub/menu.lst and having update-grub re-generate it. The new Linux cmdline will include a "root=UUID=xxx" parameter. It might even be a good idea to recommend that users do this preemptively, so that they don't have to recover from a boot failure. -- Robert Millan I know my rights; I want my phone call! Consequently, many failures are caused by the switch to gcc 4.3. If you determine that this failure is caused by gcc 4.3, feel free to downgrade this bug to 'important' if your package is only built on i386, and this bug is specific to gcc 4.3 (i.e the package builds fine with gcc 4.2). A list of current common problems and possible solutions is available at http://wiki.debian.org/qa.debian.org/FTBFS . You're welcome to contribute! About the archive rebuild: The rebuild was done on about 50 AMD64 nodes of the Grid'5000 platform, using a clean chroot containing a sid i386 environment. This can be reproduced by running: ~/libthread-pool-simple-perl-0.23# while fakeroot perl t/2.t ; do true; done The place where it blocks differ each time. For example, I just got it to block at the following places: ok 33 ok 12 ok 1 - use Thread::Pool::Simple; ok 901 stracing the sleeping process gives the following results: * futex(0x525624, FUTEX_WAIT, 1, NULL * futex(0x75f3b4, FUTEX_WAIT, 1, NULL * futex(0x525624, FUTEX_WAIT, 9, NULL I also got it to block in an msgrcv call, but I couldn't reproduce this right now. I could reproduce it: * in an up to date sid i386 chroot running with an amd64 kernel, on a 2-CPU system, using fakeroot * on an amd64 system, 2-CPU system, using fakeroot (without any chroot involved) I could NOT reproduce it: * on my laptop (i386, single CPU), even using fakeroot * without using fakeroot, on amd64 So, I think that it is related to fakeroot AND (smp OR amd64) Or maybe it's related to a specific kernel version. My laptop runs 2.6.21-1-686, while the AMD64 I tested it on are running 2.6.18-3-amd64. I don't have access to an i386 SMP or an AMD64 UP system to investigate further. -- | Lucas Nussbaum | [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.lucas-nussbaum.net/ | | jabber: [EMAIL PROTECTED] GPG: 1024D/023B3F4F | --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- On Sat, 19 Jul 2008 23:00:14 +0300, Damyan Ivanov wrote: > > I ran the test suite 100 times in a loop, and all tests were > > successful. > Did the same on a 4-CPU system and all 100 times tests passed. This release is suppossed to be fixed, so maybe this is an overlooked part? I have SMTPLISTENEROPTIONS set so that I can listen on port 465 in addition to 25.. i.e. SMTPLISTENEROPTIONS='-oX 465:25 -oP /var/run/exim4/exim.pid' This matches the recommendation supplied in the exim and Debian package doc. What happens is that the single quotes seem to be showing up on the actual command line. Here is a debug excerpt: + '[' /var/run/exim4/exim.pid ']' + /sbin/start-stop-daemon --start --nicelevel 0 --quiet --exec /usr/sbin/exim4 --oknodo --pidfile /var/run/exim4/exim.pid -- -bd -q30m '-oX 465:25 -oP /var/run/exim4/exim.pid' exim abandoned: unknown, malformed, or incomplete option -oX 465:25 -oP /var/run/exim4/exim.pid Notice that the full SMTPLISTENEROPTIONS string is still quoted when passed to start-stop-daemon... exim then barfs. (but notice also the quotes only show up in the debug output... it took a minute to figure out that exim was treating the whole string as one big option.) I can run exim manually with the options directly, but I can't figure out a way (short of hacking the init script itself) to get the options through via the normal avenues. --Mike -- Package-specific info: Exim version 4.69 #1 built 02-May-2008 12:47:18 Copyright (c) University of Cambridge 2006 Berkeley DB: Berkeley DB 4.6.21: (September 27, 2007) Support for: crypteq iconv() IPv6 GnuTLS move_frozen_messages Lookups: lsearch wildlsearch nwildlsearch iplsearch cdb dbm dbmnz dnsdb dsearch nis nis0 passwd Authenticators: cram_md5 plaintext Routers: accept dnslookup ipliteral manualroute queryprogram redirect Transports: appendfile/maildir/mailstore autoreply lmtp pipe smtp Fixed never_users: 0 Size of off_t: 8 -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.22 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages exim4-base depends on: ii adduser 3.107 add and remove users and groups ii cron 3.0pl1-104 management of regular background p ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.21 Debian configuration management sy ii exim4-config [exim4-config-2] 4.69-5 configuration for the Exim MTA (v4 ii libc6 2.7-10 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libdb4.6 4.6.21-6 Berkeley v4.6 Database Libraries [ ii lsb-base 3.2-11 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip ii netbase 4.32 Basic TCP/IP networking system Versions of packages exim4-base recommends: ii bsd-mailx [mailx] 8.1.2-0.20071201cvs-3 A simple mail user agent ii mailx 1:20071201-3 Transitional package for mailx ren ii psmisc 22.6-1Utilities that use the proc filesy -- debconf information: exim4/purge_spool: false exim4-base/drec: exim4/move_exim3_spool: false --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Source: exim4 Source-Version: 4.69-6 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of exim4, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: exim4-base_4.69-6_i386.deb to pool/main/e/exim4/exim4-base_4.69-6_i386.deb exim4-config_4.69-6_all.deb to pool/main/e/exim4/exim4-config_4.69-6_all.deb exim4-daemon-heavy-dbg_4.69-6_i386.deb to pool/main/e/exim4/exim4-daemon-heavy-dbg_4.69-6_i386.deb exim4-daemon-heavy_4.69-6_i386.deb to pool/main/e/exim4/exim4-daemon-heavy_4.69-6_i386.deb exim4-daemon-light-dbg_4.69-6_i386.deb to pool/main/e/exim4/exim4-daemon-light-dbg_4.69-6_i386.deb exim4-daemon-light_4.69-6_i386.deb to pool/main/e/exim4/exim4-daemon-light_4.69-6_i386.deb exim4-dbg_4.69-6_i3

Bug#491453: ASSERT on loading torrent
Does it happen with all the torrent files? Could you send me the torrent file so that I can test it? You can send it directly to my mail: chris (at) qbittorrent.org
Bug#487013: Tests no longer failing?!
I could reproduce these test failures earlier, today I looked again and the tests worked. I ran the test suite 100 times in a loop, and all tests were successful. But I neither know why they randomly failed in earlier tries nor why the succeed now. I'm inclined to closes the bug(s) but I'd appreciate tests by someone else before. Possible solutions are to have the two packages conflict, to rename the common file in one of the two packages, or to remove the file from one package and have this package depend on the other package. Bug#491449: sun-java6-jre: version mismatch with etch/amd64+bpo, cannot install
Package: sun-java6-jre Version: 6-06-1~bpo40+1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable # apt-get -t etch-backports install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-bin Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: sun-java6-bin: Depends: sun-java6-jre (= 6-00-2~bpo.1) but 6-06-1~bpo40+1 is to be installed sun-java6-jre: Depends: sun-java6-bin (= 6-06-1~bpo40+1) but 6-00-2~bpo.1 is to be installed or ia32-sun-java6-bin (= 6-06-1~bpo40+1) but it is not going to be installed E: Broken packages It seems sun-java6-jre cannot be installed on etch-backports/amd64, because sun-java6-jre and sun-java6-bin depend on each other, but with different version numbers. Function `audacious_get_localdir' implicitly converted to pointer at i_configure.c:419 This is often due to a missing function prototype definition. For more information, see [2]. Though it is guaranteed that this codepath will cause a segfault on certain architectures, it is not guaranteed that this codepath would ever be executed (e.g., if the returned pointer is never dereferenced). However, this bug does prevent the ia64 buildd from successfully building this package, resulting in a practical FTBFS issue and warranting the serious severity.
