Hello,

gitosis’s postinst script creates the gitosis user, with $HOME located
in /var/cache/gitosis ; the Git repositories hosted by gitosis will
then be stored in this directory, along with the
gitosis configuration.

According to the FHS[1], « /var/cache is intended for cached data from
applications. Such data is locally generated as a result of
time-consuming I/O or calculation. The application must be able to
regenerate or restore the data. Unlike /var/spool, the cached files
can be deleted without data loss. »

IMHO, neither the hosted repositories nor the gitosis config match
this definition.

On an upgrade you can savely assume that the gitosis user either still
exists, or the admin decided to modify it. Creating the user again and
especially chowning existing files is a security issue.

Bug#454770: Patch for schannel_store.tdb

2008-07-19 Thread Christian Perrier
The attached (untested) patch should allow using /var/lib/samba for
schannel_store.tdb instead of /etc/samba

I indeed use a similar change than the one we're using for passdb.tdb

This patch is meant for the 3.2.0 branch.

The "ulimit" command has no manual page, which violates DP 12.1

Because this command has no binary (an internal command?) i've put
it as "general" although "base" may be a better psudeopackage.

ulimit should be documented in the manual page for your shell.

For example:

$ man bash

$ man dash

Please file a wishlist bug on your shell if it doesn't provide

Hi,

fig2dev -L pdf cell-struct.fig calls gs with

gs -q -dNOPAUSE -sAutoRotatePages=None -dAutoFilterColorImages=false
 -dColorImageFilter=/FlateEncode -sDEVICE=pdfwrite
 -dPDFSETTINGS=/prepress -sOutputFile=- - -c quit

which segfaults on at least sparc and parisc (sperger and paer sid
chroot).

Hi Terry,

we are having some trouble with the sidebar patch in the Debian
package, notably it seems to break detecting new mail in maildir
folders. I don't use the patch myself, so I can't say much about the
impact, but Stefano usually right in what he's saying.

Stefano, while this is certainly a "bad" bug, I'm downgrading it to
important again as it does not have any impact on the main mutt
package, and does not break any other feature from the mutt-patched
package (there are none) (, and doesn't make the package completely
useless... somehow).

I'll be on vacation for the next two weeks, if there's a fix, please
feel free to upload a new mutt version. I've added you to the pkg-mutt
project on alioth, so you should even be able to commit to the bzr
repository there.

On the other hand, if someone thinks this is a RC bug, and is not
fixable before the Lenny freeze, I opt we drop the mutt-patched
package again. debian/rules has a switch BUILD_PATCHED that should
suffice to lobotomize the build. As said, I'll be on vac, a NMU would
be very welcome by any interested party.

Bug#479751: azureus: Requires Sun Java

2008-07-19 Thread peter green

Since openjdk is now available in main, wouldn't that be the best solution?

It would if it was in lenny but unfortunately openjdk was delayed hugely
by license issues :(. Now we have a situation where afiact openjdk will
only make it into lenny if one of the following happens.

*The "rc" bug (491362) that is open against openjdk gets downgraded (I
beleive it should be downgraded but as a non-dd I don't belive it is my
place to downgrade a bug based on an unclear bit of the rc policy) and
openjdk slots in just before the freeze (btw is there any actual date
set for that or is it just "sometime next week"
*The rc bug is fixed and the release team makes a freeze exception or an
urgent hint to get openjdk in before the freeze

*the freeze is delayed

ccing debian-release to get thier opinion on what the chances are for
openjdk making it into lenny.

Bug#491503: dnscache-run: Postrm script does not call daemontools properly

2008-07-19 Thread Javier Fernández-Sanguino Peña

Package: dnscache-run

Dnscache-run's postrm script does not properly terminate the dnscache process
because, AFAIK, it does not call properly the daemontools utility used to
terminate processes (uses 'sv' instead of 'svc').

The attached patch fixes this issue.

Package: grub
Version: 0.97-41
Severity: grave

Hello,

thanks for maintaining grub.

Running update-grub segfaults:

  # update-grub ; echo $?
Searching for GRUB installation directory ... found: /boot/grub
  139

(139 = 128 + 11, 11 = SIGSEGV)

This is a trace of the script:

  # sh -x `which update-grub`
  + set -e
  ++ uname -s
  ++ tr '[A-Z]' '[a-z]'
  + host_os=linux
  ++ find_grub_dir
++ echo -n 'Searching for GRUB installation directory ... '
Searching for GRUB installation directory ... ++ for d in /boot/grub
  /boot/boot/grub
  ++ '[' -d /boot/grub ']'
  ++ grub_dir=/boot/grub
  ++ break
  ++ '[' -z /boot/grub ']'
  ++ echo 'found: /boot/grub'
  found: /boot/grub
  ++ echo /boot/grub
  + grub_dir=/boot/grub
  + device_map=/boot/grub/device.map
  + menu_file_basename=menu.lst
  + menu_file=/boot/grub/menu.lst
  + default_file_basename=default

  ++ find_device /
  ++ test -e /boot/grub/device.map
  ++ grub-probe --device-map=/boot/grub/device.map -t device /

And this is the core of the problem:

  # grub-probe --device-map=/boot/grub/device.map -t device /
  Segmentation fault

This is the /etc/fstab line related to '/':

  /dev/sda1 / ext3defaults,errors=remount-ro,relatime 0

Cheers,

Enrico

Bug#474736: Downgrading Bug#474736 to important

As I stated in the original bug report, I don't quite agree with the
security hole characterization of this bug, as it is essentially
imposible for liferea to detect a hijacked feed.

This bug is currently the only reason for liferea not to be in lenny.
Since upstream has stated that the 1.4 series will *not* be updated to
deal with this issue, and I lack the time for now to attempt a backport,
this means a fix for this will not be ready before the freeze.

Would I be justified in downgrading this to important?

Bug#491501: gitosis: Don't create gitosis user on upgrade

2008-07-19 Thread Bernd Zeimetz
Package: gitosis
Severity: serious

On an upgrade you can savely assume that the gitosis user either still
exists, or the admin decided to modify it. Creating the user again and
especially chowning existing files is a security issue.

Since openjdk is now available in main, wouldn't that be the best solution?

Yes, please close it. I went through my aptitude logs and found nothing
whatsoever that could be of any influence.

Indeed. I was proud enough of having managed to go from a failed kernel
update down to the exact commandline that was segfaulting, that I forgot
to do the proper investigation of the segfault. Sorry about it.

While this is certainly unclean, I don't think this is of serious
severity, since the source code of the shipped object files is
included.

This doesn't occur on my setups and seems like a temporary transmission
problem. Are you able to reproduce it from different hosts?

Bug#491487: apt-cross: infinite recursion in dependency calculation

2008-07-19 Thread Neil Williams
Package: apt-cross
Version: 0.11.0
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

The conflict resolution functions added in 0.11.0 are borked and under
certain circumstances (e.g. installing the cross-dependencies for
e2fsprogs or packages that depend on libgtk2.0-0) apt-cross can descend
into an infinite recursive loop and/or try to install the entire Debian
archive as cross-dependencies. The conflict resolution code does work in
certain (limited) situations in 0.11.0 but the breakage prevents
apt-cross from finding a usable cross-dependency solution in situations
where 0.10.0 would have been successful.

I do have a fix, which I am currently testing.

I am filing this bug for three reasons:

1. The usual purpose - create a record of the problem to help others

2. 0.10.0 in testing works up to the point where conflict resolution
would otherwise be needed. 0.11.0 breaks in situations where 0.10.0
would work. 0.11.0 is therefore a regression from previous behaviour
and testing should be protected from the regression.

3. To ensure that 0.12.0 is correctly viewed as an RC release so that
the version of apt-cross in Lenny can have conflict resolution support.

Learning the lesson from this incident, wider testing is now under way
to ensure that the fix currently in SVN is correct.

Hi,

Not sure if this is mentioned already. But if it's not, it most likely can
benefit from an update as per the introduction of UUID support in GRUB.

In case user runs into the common "/dev/hda became /dev/sda" boot failure
trouble during upgrade, she can solve it with relative ease by simply removing
/boot/grub/menu.lst and having update-grub re-generate it. The new Linux
cmdline will include a "root=UUID=xxx" parameter.

It might even be a good idea to recommend that users do this preemptively,
so that they don't have to recover from a boot failure.

My current grub-common version, which works, is still 1.96+20080704-2;
which, annoyingly, is the same as the one I had when I experienced the
segfault.

Bug#491485: debian/copyright missing RSA copyright statement and license

2008-07-19 Thread Thomas Viehmann
Package: ftpmirror
Version: 1.96+dfsg-6
Severity: serious

Hi,

during preparation of an NMU to reintroduce ftpmirror, I noticed that
the debian/copyright of ftpmirror is insufficient: It misses the
copyright statement and license for the MD5 algorithm.
Attached is the diff without the bug number.
Given the package still has to go through NEW and the freeze is
imminent, I'd suggest you either upload in the next two days or OK the NMU.

Kind regards

T.

Hello,

Current qemu package didn't pulled libgnutls13 as an install dependency, thus
leading qemu binary to complain about missing libgnutls.so.13 library.
Installing the referred package made it work again.

Bye.

The full build log is available from:
   http://people.debian.org/~lucas/logs/2008/06/19

This rebuild was done with gcc 4.3 instead of gcc 4.2, because gcc 4.3
is now the default on most architectures (even if it's not the case on
i386 yet). Consequently, many failures are caused by the switch to gcc
4.3.
If you determine that this failure is caused by gcc 4.3, feel free to
downgrade this bug to 'important' if your package is only built on i386,
and this bug is specific to gcc 4.3 (i.e the package builds fine with
gcc 4.2).

A list of current common problems and possible solutions is available at
http://wiki.debian.org/qa.debian.org/FTBFS . You're welcome to contribute!

About the archive rebuild: The rebuild was done on about 50 AMD64 nodes
of the Grid'5000 platform, using a clean chroot containing a sid i386
environment. Internet was not accessible from the build systems.

Package: libthread-pool-simple-perl
Version: 0.23-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

libthread-pool-simple-perl's tests sometimes go into a deadlock when
running inside fakeroot.

This can be reproduced by running:
~/libthread-pool-simple-perl-0.23# while fakeroot perl t/2.t ; do true; done

The place where it blocks differ each time. For example, I just got it
to block at the following places:
ok 33
ok 12
ok 1 - use Thread::Pool::Simple;
ok 901

stracing the sleeping process gives the following results:
* futex(0x525624, FUTEX_WAIT, 1, NULL
* futex(0x75f3b4, FUTEX_WAIT, 1, NULL
* futex(0x525624, FUTEX_WAIT, 9, NULL
I also got it to block in an msgrcv call, but I couldn't reproduce this
right now.

I could reproduce it:
* in an up to date sid i386 chroot running with an amd64 kernel, on a
  2-CPU system, using fakeroot
* on an amd64 system, 2-CPU system, using fakeroot (without any chroot
  involved)

I could NOT reproduce it:
* on my laptop (i386, single CPU), even using fakeroot
* without using fakeroot, on amd64

So, I think that it is related to
  fakeroot AND (smp OR amd64)

Or maybe it's related to a specific kernel version. My laptop runs
2.6.21-1-686, while the AMD64 I tested it on are running 2.6.18-3-amd64.

I don't have access to an i386 SMP or an AMD64 UP system to investigate
further.

it seems my initial thought was wrong and it was not -DFORTIFY_SOURCE
but just gcc 4.3 being more aggressive at optimizing memcpy()s away.
When I have time, I will check if the patched apache still works
with -DFORTIFY_SOURCE.

Cheers,

Actually, grub-probe is provided by the grub-common package.

I'd be more comfortable if you can confirm in which version of grub-common
you found the bug is fixed (so we can use versioned close).

Thanks!

Package: exim4-base
Version: 4.69-5+b1
Severity: serious
Justification: 6

Updating exim4 fails because the exim init script refuses to start the daemon.
>From the changelog, I'm guessing this might be related to the quoting problems
encountered in a few recent bugs (476987 is one). This release is suppossed to
be fixed, so maybe this is an overlooked part?

I have SMTPLISTENEROPTIONS set so that I can listen on port 465 in addition to
25.. i.e.
SMTPLISTENEROPTIONS='-oX 465:25 -oP /var/run/exim4/exim.pid'

This matches the recommendation supplied in the exim and Debian package doc.

What happens is that the single quotes seem to be showing up on the actual
command line. Here is a debug excerpt:
+ '[' /var/run/exim4/exim.pid ']'
+ /sbin/start-stop-daemon --start --nicelevel 0 --quiet --exec /usr/sbin/exim4
--oknodo --pidfile /var/run/exim4/exim.pid -- -bd -q30m '-oX 465:25 -oP
/var/run/exim4/exim.pid'
exim abandoned: unknown, malformed, or incomplete option -oX 465:25 -oP
/var/run/exim4/exim.pid

Notice that the full SMTPLISTENEROPTIONS string is still quoted when passed to
start-stop-daemon... exim then barfs. (but notice also the quotes only show up
in the debug output... it took a minute to figure out that exim was treating
the
whole string as one big option.)

I can run exim manually with the options directly, but I can't figure out a way
(short of hacking the init script itself) to get the options through via the
normal avenues.

Hi,
while trying to setup the TLS on the extra port 465 I found, that
a suggestion from README.Debian does not work, because multiple
options in SMTPLISTENEROPTIONS are passed in the form:
${SMTPLISTENEROPTIONS:+"${SMTPLISTENEROPTIONS}"}
that is as one argumet.
Value SMTPLISTENEROPTIONS='-oX 465:25 -oP /var/run/exim4/exim.pid'
is in /usr/share/doc/exim4-base/README.Debian.gz.
After applying attached change, the daemon started ok.
Regards

Bug#491453: ASSERT on loading torrent

Does it happen with all the torrent files? Could you send me the torrent

You can send it directly to my mail: chris (at) qbittorrent.org

Bug#487013: Tests no longer failing?!

2008-07-19 Thread gregor herrmann
I could reproduce these test failures earlier, today I looked again
and the tests worked.

I ran the test suite 100 times in a loop, and all tests were
successful.
But I neither know why they randomly failed in earlier tries nor why
the succeed now.

I'm inclined to closes the bug(s) but I'd appreciate tests by someone
else before.

Cheers,
gregor

I was tipsed about #491107, which I believe is the source of this
problem. I recommend setting this bug as blocked by the other bug, or
reassign it.

Apparently, not anymore.

Grub is still version 0.97-41: no idea what's different. What can I
say... a glitch in the matrix... a disturbance in the force...

I guess you can close the bug.

Right, but since these fonts use the cm metafont program I assume they
cannot be under a commercial copyright??? Karl?

The wsuipa input files do only change some parameters and then call the
cm code.

IMHO this is not enough for removal neither from TeX Live upsream nor
Debian.

Other opinions please.

Best wishes

Package: wu-ftpd
Version: 2.6.2-29
Severity: serious

Hi,

automatic installation tests of packages that share a file and at the
same time do not conflict by their package dependency relationships has
detected the following problem:

Unpacking wu-ftpd (from .../wu-ftpd_2.6.2-29_amd64.deb) ...
dpkg: error processing
/var/cache/apt/archives/wu-ftpd_2.6.2-29_amd64.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite `/etc/logcheck/ignore.d.server/wu-ftpd', which is
 also in package logcheck-database
Processing triggers for man-db ...
Errors were encountered while processing:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/wu-ftpd_2.6.2-29_amd64.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

A full log of the installation attempt can be found here:

ttp://edos.debian.net/missing-conflicts/logs/2008-06-16/logcheck-database_wu-ftpd

This is a serious bug as it makes installation fail. Possible
solutions are to have the two packages conflict, to rename the common
file in one of the two packages, or to remove the file from one
package and have this package depend on the other package. File
diversions or a Replace relation are another possibility.

This bug could in principle be filed against any of the two packages.
I might have made the wrong choice in filing the bug against your
package, in this case please feel free to reassign to the other
package.

-Ralf.

It does, it only doesn't guarantee that the package is fully configured,
which isn't important in that particular case though, as I don't use any

Hm, it's actually a different problem. The rsyslog package no longer
ships the /etc/rsyslog.d directory. I'll investigate why that is.

Reassigning to rsyslog.

Thanks for the bug report.

Are you sure -29 worked but -30 didn't? This would indicate
ext3_256byte_inode.diff introduced this regression.

Which version of e2fsprogs did you use to create that ext2fs? (and with
which flags)

That bug causes FTBFS in (at least) libclass-dbi-sweet-perl (#490336),
libdbix-class-perl (#490330) and libdbix-class-schema-loader-perl

Bug#491449: sun-java6-jre: version mismatch with etch/amd64+bpo, cannot install

2008-07-19 Thread Jean-Marc Saffroy
Package: sun-java6-jre
Version: 6-06-1~bpo40+1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

# apt-get -t etch-backports install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-bin
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  sun-java6-bin: Depends: sun-java6-jre (= 6-00-2~bpo.1) but
6-06-1~bpo40+1 is to be installed
  sun-java6-jre: Depends: sun-java6-bin (= 6-06-1~bpo40+1) but
6-00-2~bpo.1 is to be installed or
  ia32-sun-java6-bin (= 6-06-1~bpo40+1) but it
is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages

It seems sun-java6-jre cannot be installed on etch-backports/amd64,
because sun-java6-jre and sun-java6-bin depend on each other, but with
different version numbers.

Presumably sun-java6-* packages have been all rebuilt for i386, thus
requiring newer versions of each other, but not so for amd64.

Package: unixcw
Version: 2.3-9
Severity: serious

The hppa package in the archive has a broken .pc file. This is caused due
to the package being built with original-awk instead of mawk or gawk.

See
http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?&pkg=unixcw&ver=2.3-9&arch=hppa&stamp=1203752559&file=log

The package should probably build-depend on mawk | gawk or change the awk call
so it
doesn't fail with original-awk.

Frank Lichtenheld

Package: audacious-plugins
Version: 1.5.1-1
Severity: serious

Our automated buildd log filter[1] detected a problem that is likely to
cause your package to segfault on architectures where the size of a
pointer is greater than the size of an integer, such as ia64 and amd64.

Function `audacious_get_localdir' implicitly converted to pointer at
i_configure.c:419

This is often due to a missing function prototype definition.
For more information, see [2].

Though it is guaranteed that this codepath will cause a segfault on certain
architectures, it is not guaranteed that this codepath would ever be executed
(e.g., if the returned pointer is never dereferenced). However, this bug
does prevent the ia64 buildd from successfully building this package, resulting
in a practical FTBFS issue and warranting the serious severity.

Hi,

During a rebuild of all packages in sid, your package failed to build on
i386.

The full build log is available from:
   http://people.debian.org/~lucas/logs/2008/05/27

Hello,

Can you provide a failing buildlog and the debian versions of your gcc
and libc6-dev packages please ?

I cannot reproduce the problem.

Thanks

Package: libsql-abstract-perl
Version: 1.23-1
Severity: grave

Hi, Bart,

It seems SQL::Abstract 1.23 has changes that break other packages. We
recieved recently a lot of FTBFS bugs that are gone when one downgrades
libsql-abstract-perl to 1.21.

[0] #490336: libclass-dbi-sweet-perl
#490330: libdbix-class-perl
#490318: libdbix-class-schema-loader-perl

Furthermore, there is a new upstream release, 1.24, that reverts all
1.23 changes.

I didn't look at the exact change, but the above two evicences seem to
prove to me that 1.23 is to blame. Please upgrade to 1.24.

If you like, you may let Debian Perl Group[1] do so taking over the
package or have you as a co-maintainer
