Bug#518433: XALANJ-2430 - Xalan 2.7.1 won't compile an xslt when a recursive template is used in a global variable.

2009-03-05 Thread Chris Cheney
Package: libxalan2-java
Version: 2.7.1-2
Severity: grave
Tags: upstream

http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/XALANJ-2430

This bug affects the ability for OpenOffice.org to at minimum load/save
to mediawiki, xhtml, office 2003 xml formats, all of which I have seen
bug reports about. And it probably breaks many other programs that use
xalan as well.

It appears the only easy solution at present is to downgrade
libxalan2-java to 2.7.0, otherwise every xsl that is affected has to be
modified to work.

Thanks,

Chris Cheney

Package: amarok
Version: 1.92.2-1
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 10.2

Hi!

Amarok 1.92.2-1 from experimental crashes, after an error dialog boxes
shows up, with approximately the following text:

---
Klib could not load module: libamarok_collection-sqlcollection

Error message:
QLibrary::loadsys: impossible to load
/usr/lib/kde4/libamarok_collection-sqlcollection
(/usr/lib/kde4/libamarok_collection-sqlcollection: R_PPC_REL24 relocation at
0x09d0c450 for symbol 'strcopy' out of range.
--
See http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=171922 for details.

Running the following command:
  objdump -R /usr/lib/kde4/libamarok_collection-sqlcollection.so | grep
R_PPC_REL24 | wc -l
gives 54720.

It seems that libamarok_collection-sqlcollection is linked against
/usr/lib/libmysqld.a, which is build without the -fPIC flag.

As a consequence, the software is unusable on powerpc architecture, and
probably others as well.

Best regards,

Cedric

With the upcoming xulrunner transition, libxul-dev is going to disappear.

I already sent instructions on what you should be doing in
http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2008/05/msg9.html

This bug report is mostly to help follow the transition going.

FYI, I will start NMUing plugins and components next week, and will break
the remaining packages by uploading xulrunner 1.9 in unstable on May 25.

Though help will be appreciated, I'll also prepare updated packages for
these during this week and next.

Cheers,

Mike

Package: blam
Severity: serious
Version: 1.8.5-1

Hi,
blam currently contains lib/RSS.NET.dll. There is no source for this
library in the tarball and it's shipped in the package.

This is a violation of DFSG §2. Possible fixes are:

a) Ship the sources of the library via the diff.gz _AND_ build the
library from these sources. Do not build blam with the old binary as it
makes patching impossible. Convince upstream to ship sources in his
tarballs!

b) Package RSS.NET in a separate package and build with that. Of course
this package should contain sources ;)

For the next upstream release it would be nice if there were no more
binaries in the tarball, you should probably repackage it if upstream is
not responsive.

Thanks

 .
   * Upload to unstable, this package has been sitting in experimental
for too long. Time to get wider testing.
   * Fix typo in calls to modprobe (Closes: #518251)
   * Fix Bastille/API.pm:
   - Make the check that determines wether it runs as root or not
 work properly
   - Replace a call to ErrorLog to a call to B_log
   * Update the latest stable version of Debian in Bastille/API.pm
   * Add DB4.1 and DB5.0 as supported Debian versions. This is not
fully true, however, as Bastille has not been fully tested in sid or lenny.
It will help people test it out though (Closes: #510884)
   * Update Bastille/API.pm.sweth to support Debian even if it's not
 currently used:
   - include definitions for testing Debian releases
   - include the list of Debian releases and the file locations
   - adapt chkconfig_off to support Debian
   - modify the code so that it uses statoverride
   - move chkconfig_on from Bastille/API.pm and adapt it to use
 the new fun

Bug#518424: avahi-sharp: Mono 2 transition not fully done

2009-03-05 Thread Iain Lane
Package: avahi-sharp
Version: 0.6.19-3
Severity: serious
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu jaunty ubuntu-patch

Hi,

It appears the build system of avahi-sharp doesn't respect the passed
variables. I found this while attempting to sync to Jaunty - there was a
build failure. I'm not sure why it doesn't fail on sid (possibly mcs
gets pulled in some other way), but in any case the transition is not
complete.

Attached is a patch to fix the build system to actually do the right thing.
You will need to autoreconf to get the change picked up (I did it in
rules in Jaunty, but haven't attached that here incase you prefer to do
it differently).

  * debian/patches/01_configurable_compiler.patch, debian/rules, debian/control
Patch to make build system actually respect passed compiler variables.

Thanks,
Iain

Sorry I missed that you already used it. Still, the problem with the
file remains until it is removed from the source package.

If these *.zip files are not used, removing them from the openoffice.org
source package would reduce the package size by several MB, which seems
like a good thing given the size of the package.

I noticed the pending tag so I understand this will be fixed eventually
this, thanks!

That sounds pretty reasonable. It looks like some packages, like
thunar, manually declare the dependency, whereas others (gajim,
network-manager-gnome) don't. You're the maintainer, so I'll let you
make the call if you want to reassign, but it sounds reasonable to me
to file it against a library.

network-manager recommends, but does not depend on, policykit. However,
when I did not have policykit installed, right-clicking nm-applet,
picking Edit Connections, picking Mobile Broadband, clicking Add,
choosing any option and clicking Okay crashed the Edit Connections
dialog, with the following printed to nm-applet's tty:

It's obviously failing to open /etc/hosts. I can't tell why -- probably it's
missing (!!!), or is not-world-readable. But definitely not a bug in
libopenraw -- it builds fine on all other architectures (not quite, but fails
for other reasons)

Reassigning and retitling the bug.

Kindly,
David

pdnsd stopped responding to requests from tap0 interface after the
package was updated. It appears to be a direct result of Debian policy
violations.

pdnsd uses `/usr/share/pdnsd/pdnsd-resolvconf.conf'. To complicate the
matters, there _is_ `/etc/pdnsd.conf' file, ignored by default package
installation. I am sure that many new pdnsd users edit this file and
are a bit surprised to see no result.

My /usr/share/pdnsd/pdnsd-resolvconf.conf was silently overwritten
during package update. All local changes[1] were discarded.

[1] server_ip = any; // access restricted by firewall rules

(That is why tap0 interface got no responses.)

IMO, pdnsd should use /etc/pdnsd.conf by default and preserve local
changes to it.

Thank you.

pdnsd proposes two default really usual configs in /usr/share that are
_not_ conffiles as per debian policy. You're free to chose "manual"
setting of pdnsd and use the default /etc/pdnsd.conf file. You're of
course free to create it from the ones in /usr/share/pdnsd if you want
to.

I pretty much know the policy and your changes to /etc/pdnsd.conf that
_IS_ the conffile won't be touched.

If you select manual setting in /etc/default/pdnsd by setting AUTO_MODE
to "" or using dpkg-reconfigure pdnsd, you'll be done with it.

Note that the debconf question is of "high" level so it's really
unlikely you didn't read it, and the template reads:

I am using fwknop on amd64 and have never encountered this bug so far.
However on i386, this is 100 % reproductible with your current release.

Yes, I remember you said that before, and you pointed to a CPAN-RT ticket.

It sounds great to me.

What do other think about it?

Bug#518069: gnome-session: gnome fails to start after upgrade

2009-03-05 Thread Daniel Reichelt
Hi,

after upgrading gconf to 2.24.0-7 the login on the machine itself via gdm or
plain startx works flawlessly. However I can't start my vncserver anymore, it
just hangs after the desktop background is shown. My xstartup looks like this:
$ cat ~/.vnc/xstartup
#!/bin/sh
x-session-manager

The process list of dbus shows the following:

$ ps aux|grep dbus
michael 17646 0.0 0.0 21096 840 ?Ss Mar04 0:00 dbus-daemon
--fork --print-address 18 --print-pid 20 --session
michael 27684 0.0 0.0 21096 820 ?Ss Mar04 0:00 dbus-daemon
--fork --print-address 18 --print-pid 20 --session
michael 28881 0.0 0.0 21096 800 ?Ss Mar04 0:00
/usr/bin/dbus-daemon --fork --print-pid 5 --print-address 7 --session
michael 28882 0.0 0.0 25732 740 ?SMar04 0:00 dbus-launch
--autolaunch c99a1d0b92f2dc1ec596cfcd48df7e82 --binary-syntax --close-stderr
michael 28890 0.0 0.0 21096 836 ?Ss Mar04 0:00 dbus-daemon
--fork --print-address 18 --print-pid 20 --session

In that case, after killing PID 28890 gnome continues starting, however
complains - of course - that gnome-settings-daemon couldn't be started and
leaves me with a completely unusable desktop (e.g. Computer and Trash is shown,
clickable desktop, on panels).

I'll gladly provide you with any further information if you tell me what you
need.

I don't know if this has anything to do with the issue at hand, it however
sounds somewhat familiar:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libxcb/+bug/232364

Cheers
Daniel

When I ran debpool it complained about those missing perl libraries,
perhaps they are optional, but the complaints made me think otherwise.

Bug#518382: gnome-applets: CPU Frequency Scaling Is Invisible when added to panel and is therefore unusable!

2009-03-05 Thread Deniz Akcal
Package: gnome-applets
Version: 2.22.3-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Right clicking on panel and selecting “Add to Panel” and choosing “CPU
Frequency Scaling Monitor” creates an invisible icon in which you need to guess
where it is if you want to remove the invisible
icon from the panel by right clicking everywhere. If you catch its location,
you can manage to get to the preferences etc but that doesn't help with using
the applet. I've seen this bug closed but
the bug is still very much there on 32 and 64 bit Lenny! (I am reporting from
64 bit Lenny computer) This is important since it can allow students like
myself to lock our CPU's multipliers at 6x
(Core 2 Duo or Pentium Dual-Core for example) and save battery power; it can
also be (slightly) useful for over-clockers that don't always need the extra
speed! And of course, it can be used by
those who just want to be environmentally friendly.

This isn't a bash-completion bug, it's bash's.

Attaching strace and gdb logs of bash crashing.

Bug#518373: Build-Depends: for intltool needs explicit relation to be set

2009-03-05 Thread Eric Pozharski

Justification: no longer builds from source

Accidental build against intltool_0.35.0-3 FTBFSes with ./configure

libdb4.2 while ignoring libdb4.6 and consequently fails (the same way

upstream is unaware of the issue (otherwise, I believe, they would fix

Bug#518362: foomatic-filters: /usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip stopped with status 3!

2009-03-05 Thread Chris Lawrence
severity 518362 important

Note that this bug does not affect all usage of the package, and thus
is not "grave."

You can turn debugging on in CUPS with:

LogLevel debug

in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf.

Please also see if foomatic-rip segfaulted by checking /var/log/syslog
or /var/log/kern.log.

I think this is related to #518117 (segfault in foomatic-rip). My
strong suspicion is that you need to delete the printer from the CUPS
web interface (or your favorite GUI, like foomatic-gui) and reinstall
it.

Unfortunately without a backtrace of the segfault there isn't much I
can figure out.

Bug#518359: resolvconf: bug in shell script leads to early exit - resolv.conf is not filled with nameserver entries - with fix

2009-03-05 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Package: resolvconf
Version: 1.42
Severity: grave
Tags: patch
Justification: renders package unusable

Hello,

the /etc/resolvconf/update.d/libc script contains "set -e", which
means the shell aborts execution if one of the commands returns
a non-zero exit status.

The aforementioned script contains instructions ("[ ... ]") that
do so and thusly fails to work. These familiar with Makefiles,
which exhibit similar behaviour, know to use negative logic, i.e.
[ x != y ] || foo instead of [ x = y ] && foo, instead.

The patch below fixes this problem:

--- /etc/resolvconf/update.d/libc.orig 2009-03-05 17:07:48.0 +

2009-03-05 Thread Syd Alsobrook
Package: cfengine2
Version: 2.2.9-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Cfengine was not working on two of my servers. These two were the only systems
with cfengine2-2.2.9-1. I found that this version was looking in /var/cfengine
for the config files. This is the default location for the upstream build. I
pulled the source packages for 2.2.8 and 2.2.9 and found 2.2.9 rules file
missing the --with-workdir=/var/lib/cfengine2 option for the configure script.

Package: monkeysphere
Version: 0.23.1-1
Severity: grave

Monkeysphere 0.23 introduced a significant change to the way that system
data is stored in /var. However, the transition script (which is
triggered on postinst) is known to fail for certain classes of host.

In particular, it seems to fail for:

 * hosts with expired OpenPGP host-keys

 * hosts with non-expired OpenPGP host-keys, but whose *original* host
key certifications have expired.

 * hosts which have never updated any user authorized_keys files during
the monkeysphere.

These circumstances are fairly common, and the transition script failure
in postinst causes postinst itself to fail, leaving the package in an
unconfigured state.

Since the 0.23.1 release, upstream has made significant fixes to the
transition script to make it handle all of the above circumstances. The
fixed transition script should be available in the next revision, so
0.23.1-1 should probably not transition into squeeze.

See also upstream bug 622:

Thanks,

Hi,

network-manager_0.7.0.97 fails to build on alpha because of a false-positive
warning from gcc-4.2 (should not happen with gcc-4.3), here is a quick patch
to fix it, which can be removed once alpha will switch to gcc-4.3:

Severity: serious

network-manager fires up two instances of nm-system-settings which both proceed
to eat 100% of the system's CPU time until they are killed.

Package: network-manager
Version: 0.7.0.97-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

After recent upgrade from 0.6.6, I am unable to connect to my WPA2 AP.
Downgrading back to 0.6.6 solves
the problem.

Symptoms: I try to connect, it tries for some 20 seconds, then presents me with
the dialog asking me to
enter the password ( it should know the password, it's in the keyring ). The
password field is
already filled in, but if I click on 'show the password' it turns out to be
gibberish. ( googling shows
people think it is the password, but hashed ). If I fill in the correct
password, it simply tries once
more for another 20 seconds, then shows the dialog again and keeps doing that
ad infinitum.

I believe my issue is the same as Bill Moseley's reported in n-m's mailing
list here:

http://mail.gnome.org/archives/networkmanager-list/2009-February/msg00153.html

Dan William there advised to turn on debugging in wpa-supplicant by adding
'-dddt' to
the exec line in
/usr/share/dbus-1/system-services/fi.epitest.hostap.WPASupplicant.service.
So i did exactly :

# rm -rf /var/log/wpa-supplicant.log
# add the '-dddt' to the file
# killall -TERM wpa_supplicant
# try to connect again.

The resulting, complete 'wpa-supplicant.log' and a revelant part of syslog can
be found in

http://koltunski.pl/n-m-problems/

My AP uses 'WPA2 Personal' with TKIP on channel 6 ( 2.437 Ghz ) SSID broadcast
is set to on. Anyway, as
I said before, downgrading to n-m 0.6.6 solves the problem.

best,

Leszek

Still black screen with backlight off :(
I'm attaching my Xorg.log: as you can see GLX now is loaded correctly.
btw: tlb problem and crash problem seem to be solved (at least for me...), as
I think my blank screen problem is caused by something else...

I've noticed second video card bios is reported having an invalid signature.
Could this be the problem? I don't know if this situation is normal for this
class of products (laptop with RS780 integrated graphics and discrete

Is there an option to be passed in xorg.conf to tell fglrx to completely
ignore the second video card (or disable Crossfire)?

Just to let everyone know (and with the hope that there is no disagreement with
this): I plan to close this bug by fixing debian/rules and debian/control as
suggested above, but I'm not going to do anything about the long test suite
runs.

Bug#513222: [fglrx-driver]

2009-03-05 Thread Daniele Benucci
Package: fglrx-driver
Version: 1:9-2-2

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
I tried with 9.2.2... fglrx module is loaded, but unfortunately for me still
no joy...

HD3650).
Is there an option to be passed in xorg.conf to tell fglrx to completely
ignore the second video card (or disable Crossfire)?

Regards.
Daniele

Bug#517231: Workaround for BTS#517231

2009-03-05 Thread Martin A. Brooks

Hi

I have found a simple workaround for this bug.

At the main installer screen, press Alt+F2 to move to a virtual console
and press Enter to activate it. Then type

echo stable > /etc/udebs-source

Press Alt+F1 to get back to the main installer and then continue as normal.

There may be some reason why doing this is Bad, Wrong and Evil[tm] so YMMV.

lvm2 manages blockdevices via the device-mapper framework, so it manages
the system. It is the purpose of this tool and it will not hold you from
doing stupid things.

And for now I consider taking snapshots of / or /var as stupid, because
it is impossible to recover if something goes wrong. And without a
working filesystem on this locations, the system will just block. It may
work, but it also may break horrible as the kernel interface does not
allow to do this change atomic.

We have many software who only works for most but not for all people.

Why do you think this would be a problem of the userspace part?

> So this bug is a complete show stopper for lenny

If you want to help you can provide the following information when it
goes wrong:
- "uname -a"
- "dmesg"
- "dmsetup table"
- "cat /proc/mounts"
- debug log of the "lvcreate -s" call, using -
- your snapshot creation script

There was a bug in older kernels which blocked on devmapper table
reload, however I've only seen this with the mirror target during a
pvmove call.

This is the normal behaviour if you lock out either a filesystem or have
some parts of the kernel disfunctional after oopses.

It is. However I'm currently not sure if it ever tries to write/read
this files while it have an operation going.

lvm2 and lvm1 does not have many in common.

This is up to the maintainer. I use snapshots often and have not seen
such problems recently.

Bug#518281: FTBS: midori on pa-risc

2009-03-05 Thread Sebastian Andrzej Siewior
Package: midori
Version: 0.1.2-1
Severity: serious
Tags: patch

midori fails to compile hppa [1].
The patch attached could help, I have no access to hppa box to say this
for sure :)
I talked to upstream and it is prefered to add a check for parisc
instead making libgkatze .so or adding -fPIC unconditional. Sould
someone test or test-build it?

https://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?&pkg=midori&ver=0.1.2-1&arch=hppa&stamp=1234726742&file=log

Sebastian
>From b7767200c69be8720d0efdc898c818a4557a53c7 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001
From: Sebastian Andrzej Siewior
Date: Wed, 4 Mar 2009 22:02:58 +0100
Subject: [PATCH] Always use -fPIC in libkatze

in the midori build:
- libkatze is compiled as a static library
- addons / extensions is compiled as a shared library

The extensions have to be build as .so and loaded at runtime. libkatze is
required by midori and should be built-in. Some of the extensions need symbols
which are exported by libkatze so we have to make libkatze -fPIC _or_ make a
.so as well.

hmm it's in libglib2.0-0 Recommends list. Shouldn't it be a must? for
example libgtk2.0 depends on libpng12-0 but is not able to open a png
without shared-mime-info package. That sounds a bug in libgtk2.0-0
Depends list, no?
