Bug#521448: gammu: gnapplet.sis requires packages which are not in our archive (was: distributing precompiled binaries)
Hi Dne Sun, 29 Mar 2009 23:14:07 +0100 MJ Ray m...@phonecoop.coop napsal(a): This email is to reopen bug 521448. As I understand the close message, while gammu's source does contain source code for gnapplet.sis, it requires packages which are not in our archive at all for compilation. That's given in debian-policy section 2.2.2 as an example of something which should be in the contrib section of the archive network, so this seems still a problem. A split package would be better than pointing users upstream, IMO. Split package would mean creating new source package with single object file which is supposed to be installed into phone. I think this is simply too big overhead. Also from another point of view, gnapplet is unfortunately not usable with recent Symbian phones, it works only for older Symbian version, so it's user base is quite small. Given these things, I will rather stop distributing gnapplet.sis in binary package than introducing new source package. BTW: p3nfs package has exactly same problem. -- Michal Čihař | http://cihar.com | http://blog.cihar.com signature.asc Description: PGP signature

The proposed solution (replacing debian-multimedia packages with original debian packages) solved this serious problem for me. Thanks! There isn't much either gnome-settings-daemon or GStreamer can do against broken plugins. Sorry - I don't know the details of neither gstreamer nor gnome-settings-daemon, but I am surprised, that gnome-settings-daemon/gstreamer is not fault tolerant when loading a plugin. Where do you see the source of the problem? Should gstreamer catch broken plugins and ignore them? Or should gnome-settings-daemon disable gstreamer in case of its failure? Or is it just impossible to add robustness here? That will be done in gstreamer in one of the next releases. Updating the registry will take place in a second process and if a plugin fails to load it will be ignored, without taking down the main process. signature.asc Description: Dies ist ein digital signierter Nachrichtenteil

Bug#521699: More information
Hi, I found some instructions on the web for obtaining a stack trace. I first did this in xorg.conf: Section ServerFlags Option NoTrapSignals true EndSection and issued a: ulimit -c unlimited from the command line. Then sudo gdb /usr/bin/Xorg /etc/X11/core And got this: Loaded symbols for /usr/lib/xorg/modules//libwfb.so Core was generated by `X'. Program terminated with signal 11, Segmentation fault. [New process 4212] #0 0xb7abbd10 in ?? () from /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions//libglx.so (gdb) bt #0 0xb7abbd10 in ?? () from /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions//libglx.so #1 0x in ?? () (gdb) bt full #0 0xb7abbd10 in ?? () from /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions//libglx.so No symbol table info available. #1 0x in ?? () No symbol table info available. (gdb) Is someone interested in helping understand and fix this bug? If so maybe I could do something extra to get the debugging symbols for libglx.so? Is there other things that I could do to help? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org
Bug#521834: gdm: PC hangs up after logout, restart or shutdown out of gnome
On Mon, 2009-03-30 at 13:09 +0200, Josselin Mouette wrote: Le lundi 30 mars 2009 à 12:58 +0200, Raul Fajardo a écrit : Justification: breaks the whole system A system crash doesn’t break the whole system. Sorry for that. In a rate of 1/10 or less, the whole system stops responding after logout, restart or shutdown out of gnome, through gdm. Does it still respond to the network? Can you log on the system remotely? Does it respond if you switch to the text console with Control-Alt-F1? It is not possible to switch to text console with control-alt-F1, or F2 (so on). I am not sure if it still responds to the network. I don't use this computer as any server so I didn't try it. As commented, as it doesn't occur so often it was not so easy to get even that debug output. Next time it happens I assure you I try at least to ping it. To try to accurate the reason I switched the debug mode from gdm and will paste its output here on an occurence of the given error. Such an issue is most likely caused by a bug in either the kernel or the X server. First of all, which X driver are you using? If you mean the video driver, I am actually using the libgl1-mesa-dri. But hoping it would stop by not using it I removed it, though the problem persisted. Cheers, -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#521834: gdm: PC hangs up after logout, restart or shutdown out of gnome
severity 521834 important thanks Le lundi 30 mars 2009 à 14:34 +0200, Raul Fajardo a écrit : I don't use this computer as any server so I didn't try it. As commented, as it doesn't occur so often it was not so easy to get even that debug output. Next time it happens I assure you I try at least to ping it. OK, thanks. Beware that pinging can still work when the machine is crashed, so it would be nice if you could try to SSH on it. Such an issue is most likely caused by a bug in either the kernel or the X server. First of all, which X driver are you using? If you mean the video driver, I am actually using the libgl1-mesa-dri. But hoping it would stop by not using it I removed it, though the problem persisted. I mean the X driver, not the GL library. It is the Driver line in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. If there is no such line, please show the model of your graphics card (lspci | grep VGA). Thanks, -- .''`. Bug#521834: gdm: PC hangs up after logout, restart or shutdown out of gnome
2009/3/30 Josselin Mouette j...@debian.org severity 521834 important thanks Le lundi 30 mars 2009 à 14:34 +0200, Raul Fajardo a écrit : I don't use this computer as any server so I didn't try it. As commented, as it doesn't occur so often it was not so easy to get even that debug output. Next time it happens I assure you I try at least to ping it. OK, thanks. Beware that pinging can still work when the machine is crashed, so it would be nice if you could try to SSH on it. It doesn't respond to the network. Neither ping nor ssh. I installed a ssh-server before and tested it, it was working fine. After the freeze, no response anymore. Before that I tried to connect a external monitor, since it seemed that the monitor has been turned off, also no luck. No specified driver for video: lspci | grep VGA: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02) Thanks, -- .''`. Debian 5.0 Lenny has been released! : :' : `. `' Last night, Darth Vader came down from planet Vulcan and told `-me that if you don't install Lenny, he'd melt your brain. I tried to check Xorg.0.log, messages, dmesg and syslog for errors along with the .1's for them, since I can just check them after restart. But the only hint are those lines from syslog debug output from gdm: Mar 30 15:16:58 raul-laptop gdm[2635]: DEBUG: close_if_needed: Got G_IO_HUP on 8 Mar 30 15:16:58 raul-laptop gdm[2635]: DEBUG: close_if_needed: Got error on 8 Thank you

Bug#521760: fastjar: Failed upgrade 2:0.95-1 - 2:0.97-3
Matthew Johnson schrieb: Hi Matthias, Do you have any reason to believe that jarwrapper breaks fastjar? I have no idea how it possibly could; the maintainer scripts just cass update-binfmts, but the problem would seem to be: update-alternatives: error: alternative jar.1.gz can't be slave of jar: it is a master alternative. All I have to do with fastjar is depend on it and call it. Don't forget that when you reassign I don't get the email unless you CC me, I just see that a bug number has been assigned to my package. Looking at the bug report more closely, the root cause might actually be something to do with: update-alternatives: warning: alternative /usr/lib/jdk1.1/bin/jar.1.gz (part of link group jar.1.gz) doesn't exist. Removing from list of alternatives. Could this be caused by a package not from the archive which was installed in /usr/lib/jdk1.1 and has since been removed, but which left alternatives around? ok, I didn't see the jdk1.1 link. that maybe indeed the root cause. Then, maybe just close it? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org
Bug#517203: [pkg-boost-devel] Bug#517203: raising severity, cloning for other boost packages
Gerfried Fuchs schrieb: * Gerfried Fuchs rho...@deb.at [2009-03-27 10:59:29 CET]: * Steve M. Robbins st...@sumost.ca [2009-03-23 20:57:49 CET]: The script is used to create undecorated symlinks to libraries built with the default python version. Right now the package builds libraries for Python 2.4 and Python 2.5. I don't have libraries for any other python version. One way I can handle any python version is to simply not provide symlinks if Boost.Python doesn't have libararies for the default version of python doesn't have. Once Python 2.6 is in sid, I'll update boost to build libraries for it. ... so for the time being the boost (and all its dependencies) are blocked from transitioning to squeeze because of these bug reports. Is that really the intended behavior, how long is it expected to take to get solved for the good? Looked into it again - it only seems to affect boost1.37 badly. The version it was reported for boost1.35 is only in experimental, and the version it was reported for boost is already in testing. hmm, so there is already a fixed version for boost in unstable? My suggestion is to reduce the severity for the bugreport against boost1.37 for the time being so that it can transition to testing and won't hold up other packages along that way until a proper solution has been worked out. Would that be acceptable to you, Matthias? sounds ok. so which versions do have the fix now? Just want to add the conflicts with earlier versions. Remove the non-free material from the source, e.g., by re-packaging the upstream archive and adding 'dfsg' to the Debian package version name. 3. Move the package to non-free. Bug#521865: linux-image-2.6.29-1-powerpc: keyboard not working at all
Package: linux-image-2.6.29-1-powerpc Version: 2.6.29-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Hi! Upgrading to 2.6.29-1 did cause several problems: - The keyboard didn't react to any key pressed - An external usb keyboard didn't react to any key pressed neither - external mouse did receive power (optical red light was there) but cursor didn't move Only thing I could do was use the touchpad on my PowerBook G4, which which I at least was able to choose the shutdown thing from the gdm menu. I guess this is reason enough to call this a RC bug report. Booting with the old kernel did enable my system for using it again. Thanks. The version it was reported for boost1.35 is only in experimental, and the version it was reported for boost is already in testing. hmm, so there is already a fixed version for boost in unstable? My message was rather refering to the fact that boost1.37 is the only one that's not in sync between testing and unstable. :) But yes, the fixed version for boost1.37 is in unstable, see the done version in #520749, and the other two clones of the bug report also have their done version set already. sounds ok. so which versions do have the fix now? Just want to add the conflicts with earlier versions. From reading the bug logs: boost (= 1.3.14.1-16), boost1.35 (= 1.35.0-10), boost1.37 (= 1.37.0-8) But given that you rather say conflicts I guess you are looking for this: boost ( 1.3.14.1-16), boost1.35 ( 1.35.0-10), boost1.37 ( 1.37.0-8) Hope that helps. :) Rhonda [not a boost maintainer, so take it with a grain of sand] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#521681: [Pkg-fglrx-devel] Bug#521681: fglrx-source: Xorg crash loading module ddc
Alby M schrieb: i have a problem with the last version of fglrx-driver, compiled by module-assistant to enable 3D functionalities. This problem was present also in old releases of drivers. The problem is RANDOM, when kdm start, all screen is blank except a grey blinking cursor, in the left up corner of the screen. When the driver works correctly, this cursor becomes more large, the screen blink and the kdm starts. When the driver does not work, this cursor disappear, and there's nothing to do to start anything, the only way is Magic SysRQ (alt+ stamp + s, alt + stamp + u, alt + stamp + b), the machine reboots and after some attempt X starts without problems. Unfortunatly, there is also some crash during normal operation (system completely freezed), ctrl + alt + backspace doesn't work, with a ssh connection from another pc i realized that Xorg, in that moment, make us of cpu for 100%. For the first problem, i realized that when kdm does not start, Xorg.0.log stops before loading ddc module, without errors. Hello, is it still the case with 1:9-3-1? Bug#520989: Bug#521863: popen broken on some systems
Below is the answer of the GLIBC maintainer. It appears that these bugs are instances of bug #521863 against the Linux kernel. This bug will be fixed in 2.6.26-2-amd64 for lenny and 2.6.29-1-amd64 for sid. I will let the bugs open so other affected users can see. Please close your bug once you have updated your kernel and confirmed this fix the issue. Thanks for your cooperation with handling this problem! I can now reproduce this problem in a i386 sid chroot on a lenny-amd64 system running 2.6.26-1-amd64. test case: # chroot /home/ia32 # cat bug.c #include stdio.h int main(void) { FILE *foo = popen(ls,r); pclose(foo); return 0; } # gcc bug.c -o bug # ./bug # bin bugdebootstrap etc libmnt proc sbin srv test usr boot bug.c dev home media opt root selinux sys tmp var # exit # /home/ia32/bug # The same 32-bit binary work correctly outside the chroot (in the amd64-lenny system, with libc6-i386 installed). It's a know kernel problem for i386 installations with an amd64 kernel. Possible solutions: - install kernel linux-image-2.6.29-1-amd64 - install linux-image-2.6.26-1-amd64 from stable-proposed-updates Possible workarounds - install an i386 kernel - install libc6-i386 Reassigning an merging the bug. -- Aurelien Jarno GPG: 1024D/F1BCDB73 aurel...@aurel32.net http://www.aurel32.net - End forwarded message - -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. severity 521663 normal reassign 521663 python-nevow retitle 521663 python-nevow: postinst regenerates plugin cache before invoking pycentral pkginstall thanks On Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 9:07 AM, Marco Rodrigues goth...@sapo.pt wrote: You can't reproduce it? I'm using a clean pbuilder. I did eventually manage to reproduce it; the problem has no effect on the build (the traceback is essentially cosmetic), but it seems this is in fact a bug in python-nevow. python-nevow installs a twisted plugin and thus has code in the postinst to regenerate the plugin cache; however, this code runs before pycentral pkginstall is invoked to actually make the plugin available, thus on a fresh install of python-nevow, the plugin cache will be out of date once installation is complete. -- mithrandi, i Ainil en-Balandor, a faer Ambar -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
