Bug#528485: qt4-x11 - FTBFS: webkit linking fails
Hi, By default, debug info are disabled for QtWebkit. It's an upstream choice. I enabled debug info using 18_enable_qt3support_qtwebkit_debug_info.diff patch to provide debug package for QtWebkit. This patch triggered the build failure on s390. The linker runs out of memory which is the reason why pristine upstream QtWebkit doesn't have debugging symbols at all. For our users, we should continue to provide QtWebkit debug package. That means, we can't disable QtWebkit debug info as upstream does. We have 2 solutions: a) drop patch 18 and QtWebkit debug package. or b) build with gstabs on s390 architecture. thoughts ? cheers, Fathi

I removed it from git a while ago after I imported the 0.8.8 sources. Also debian/copyright confuses me, it says the code is MIT, but somehow upstream has GPL-2 in COPYING, and the above patch says it's GPL as well. Could you clarify this? what a mess! the source files are definitly MIT, I'm pretty sure I asked upstream about the COPYING file long time ago, I'll see if I can find that discussion again, or even ask him again. Although I'm quite sure our conversation ended up with him saying the software is indeed MIT licensed. (debian/copyright also has an outdated upstream url, http://www.conan.de/touchscreen/evtouch.html has the new release) ubuntu has 0.8.8 building on new xserver, so that would probably be worth looking at as well. Sure, I'll take a look. Thanks -- mattia :wq! -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

Bug#528647: FTBFS: Malformed argument '--skipdeps'
clone 528647 -1 reassign -1 debhelper block 528647 with -1 thanks On Thu, 14 May 2009 12:12:24 +0100, Bradley Smith wrote: Whilst building your package on AVR32, the build failed with: Malformed argument '--skipdeps' at /usr/share/perl/5.10/Module/Build/Compat.pm line 170. Gna. This is my fault: Joey was kind enough to add '--skipdeps' to debhelper's dh_auto_configure on my request (cf. #528235). I've tested it with Makefile.PL from ExtUtils::MakeMaker and from Module::Install but not with Module::Build::Compat, and here it seems to break. I guess '--skipdeps' should only be added if inc/Module/Install/AutoInstall.pm really exists. I'm attaching a preliminary and untested patch as a suggestion. (Another question is if we can add create_packlist=0 only if Makefile.PL uses M::B::C; it doesn't break anything in other cases but the warning we get is not particularly nice either.) Bug#516689: paraview uninstallable
Hello, I think that this bug should be moved from Serious to Grave, as actually its current state makes it uninstallable in most of the situations. The package shouldn't have been moved to testing before solving the bug. This should be solved by making it compatible with the python-vtk package, as the people interested in using paraview are more likely to also be interested in using python-vtk (or other packages depending on it, like mayavi) at the same time. For the moment, there are no other solution that having install/deinstall cycles in order to use them alternatively. It can be noted that because of the conflict, it is impossible to install at the same time all the recommended package of the metapackage science-viewing, which impairs its usability. -- Raphaël PLASSON KTH/AlbaNova Universitetscentrum NORDITA Roslagstullsbacken 23 106 91 Stockholm SWEDEN room: 132:003 Tel: +46-8-5537 8718 Fax: +46-8-5537 8404 email: rplas...@nordita.org -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#528434: [Secure-testing-team] Bug#528434: cron: Incomplete fix for CVE-2006-2607 (setgid() and initgroups() not checked)
On Tue, 12 May 2009 16:53:41 -0500, Jamie Strandboge wrote: Package: cron Version: 3.0pl1-105 Severity: grave Tags: patch security Justification: user security hole User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com Usertags: origin-ubuntu jaunty ubuntu-patch Hi, I was reviewing a list of old bugs in the Ubuntu bug tracker, and came across: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cron/+bug/46649 I then reviewed the Ubuntu and Debian packages and found that while the most serious issue of not checking setuid() was addressed in 3.0pl1-64, checks for setgid() and initgroups() were not added. Other distributions (eg Gentoo and RedHat) fixed these calls as well. I was then curious to see when these two calls could fail and found that sys_setgid can fail via LSM and CAP_SETGID and sys_setgroups() can fail via LSM, CAP_SETGID, NGROUPS_MAX, and ENOMEM. As such, Ubuntu plans to release a fix for this in our stable releases with the following changelog: * SECURITY UPDATE: cron does not check the return code of setgid() and initgroups(), which under certain circumstances could cause applications to run with elevated group privileges. Note that the more serious issue of not checking the return code of setuid() was fixed in 3.0pl1-64. Bug#513891: tuxcmd: Does not run at all
Hi Tomas It passed now really much time since my last reply. Last days now a new version of fpc was uploaded (2.2.4-1). Can you please try, if compilation under powerpc works fine, and then now you can use tuxcmd? (See http://bugs.debian.org/515035, hope with the new version this may be solved). dget -x http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/t/tuxcmd/tuxcmd_0.6.50-3.dsc cd tuxcmd-0.6.50/ # satisfy the build-dependencies dpkg-buildpackage -b Then in ../tuxcmd_0.6.50-3_powerpc.deb is the deb package. Could you please then tell me if it still fails? If you do not want to build the package, you can also wait, until the package builds (https://buildd.debian.org/pkg.cgi?pkg=tuxcmd). But upstream told me anyway that tuxcmd will work only under i386 and amd64, so I anyway finally should try to let keep only for these architectures tuxcmd in the archive. I carried out experimentation last year with many things, two of which were: building custom kernels, and configuring my virtual terminals to my own liking. In the course of those experiments, I discovered that the kernel font called 10x18 provided a balance of readability with maximizing the amount of information that could be fit on one screen. At that time, I discovered that another package, 'console-tools', was replacing the kernel font with software fonts once the Debian boot scripts were run. However, the 'console-tools' configuration allowed for settings which would prevent the software font from being loaded -- allowing me to use the desired kernel font. The recent changes to 'xserver-xorg' brought in the 'console-setup' package as a new dependency. I found that 'console-setup' was loading software fonts at boot time, and found no mechanism for allowing the kernel font to be left in place. I assumed that this was not a bug, and posted a question to debian-b...@lists.debian.org asking whether 'console-setup' had a mechanism that would allow me to continue using the kernel font on my virtual terminals. Colin Watson responded by creating a patch for me to test which would allow the behavior seen with 'console-tools': leaving FONTFACE and FONTSIZE undefined in /etc/default/console-setup would prevent a software font from being loaded by 'setupcon', and the kernel font would be left in place. I was running with the patched 'setupcon' on my system when the update of 'console-setup' appeared. At the next

Bug#526365: Please make this a wishlist bug: fault tolerance for bad rules
I'm the lead developer of Image Scan! for Linux and changed upon this bug report when investigating the boot failure. While I haven't heard anything yet through whatever channel you tried to contact us, I figured that I'd short-circuit the corporate red tape and follow up directly. Firstly, apologies for causing this mess. From our current research we believe it was triggered by upstream changes introduced in v129. Second, heartfelt thanks to Michael for reopening this bug. It will affect anyone who installed an iscan version between 2.16.0 and 2.19.1 and upgrades from udev-0.125 to any later version that does not strip out our botched z60_iscan.rules file. That would include everyone updating to Squeeze once it becomes stable, if not for you reopening! Third, thanks for your willingness to go through the trouble of actively ripping out our bad file. We much appreciate that because it has a much better chance of reaching all systems that need a fix, courtesy of APT. When I looked into how that file ended up in initrd I was a bit surprised to see that udev included *all* of /etc/udev/. I had a look through all the packages that put files there and there are only very few that I think warrant inclusion in an initrd. As a preventive measure, would it not be a good idea to get such packages to provide an initramfs-tools hook to do so themselves instead of udev doing it for them? On the iscan side, we're considering adding a hook to keep our file out. There's nothing in the initrd stage we can think of that would need it anyway.
