Bug#528611: ipset and xtables-addons-common: error when trying to install together

2009-05-14 Thread Ralf Treinen

Hi,

automatic installation tests of packages that share a file and at the
same time do not conflict by their package dependency relationships has
detected the following problem:

WARNING: The following packages cannot be authenticated!

This is a serious bug as it makes installation fail. Possible
solutions are to have the two packages conflict, to rename the common
file in one of the two packages, or to remove the file from one
package and have this package depend on the other package. File
diversions or a Replace relation are another possibility.

Here is a list of files that are known to be shared by both packages
(according to the Contents file for sid/amd64, which may be
slightly out of sync):

  usr/sbin/ipset
  usr/share/man/man8/ipset.8.gz

This bug is assigned to both packages. If you, the maintainers of
the two packages in question, have agreed on which of the packages will
resolve the problem please reassign the bug to that package.

Bug#528485: qt4-x11 - FTBFS: webkit linking fails

2009-05-14 Thread Fathi Boudra (Debian)
Hi,

By default, debug info are disabled for QtWebkit. It's an upstream choice.
I enabled debug info using 18_enable_qt3support_qtwebkit_debug_info.diff patch
to provide debug package for QtWebkit. This patch triggered the build failure
on s390. The linker runs out of memory which is the reason why pristine
upstream QtWebkit doesn't have debugging symbols at all.

For our users, we should continue to provide QtWebkit debug package.
That means, we can't disable QtWebkit debug info as upstream does.

We have 2 solutions:
a) drop patch 18 and QtWebkit debug package.
or
b) build with gstabs on s390 architecture.

thoughts ?

cheers,

Fathi

Thanks. Removing /etc/texmf/web2c/fmtutil.cnf helped and texlive-base got

However, I really don't know where that fmtutil.cnf came from. Previously,
tetex from etch was there and I'm not aware of doing any changes to it.

Please, close the bug.

You are NOT using the generated fmtutil.cnf file, but replaced it
with the above one (/etc/texmf/web2c/fmtutil.cnf). I don't know HOW
that file was created there, but the correct one is in
/var/lib/texmf/web2c/fmtutil.cnf
But it cannot be used because on your system there is a different fmtutil.cnf
file that overrides the geenrated one.

If you want this, then it is *your* obligation to make sure that
fmtutil.cnf does not mention formats and programs that do not exists.

Please remove that file and it should work.

If that is true, please close the bug (or I will do it).

Best wishes

Package: vm
Version: 8.0.9-4
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

I've just upgraded my home machine to lenny from etch, and now vm
doesn't work. At all. emacs -f vm says:

Symbol's function definition is void: vm

FWIW, load-path is:

Hi,

This is by design. It is also documented in the changelog:
  * This version of VM does not work with Emacs 21 and lower, since those
versions are missing the custom-autoload function which is used
invm-autoloads.el. As a result, no autoloads for vm are defined,
making vm completely unusable with emacs21.

Hi,

automatic installation tests of packages that share a file and at the
same time do not conflict by their package dependency relationships has
detected the following problem:

WARNING: The following packages cannot be authenticated!
  ipset xtables-addons-common
Authentication warning overridden.
Can not write log, openpty() failed (/dev/pts not mounted?)
Selecting previously deselected package ipset.

 /var/cache/apt/archives/xtables-addons-common_1.15-2_amd64.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

-Ralf.

I am the mirror admin of ftp.tw.d.o. I found jigdo-mirror keep reports

correct.

On our website[0], we encouraged mirror admins as 'Mirroring using

when setting this up.

I am one of the mirror admin who following the information on our

Please consider this as a RC bug and fix in Lenny.

Package: libscalar-number-perl
Version: 0.004-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

Whilst building your package on AVR32, the build failed with:

  Malformed argument '--skipdeps' at
/usr/share/perl/5.10/Module/Build/Compat.pm line 170.

Not that this is not specific to AVR32 as I can also reproduce this on
my i386 machine.

The full build log is available:

http://buildd.debian-ports.org/fetch.php?pkg=libscalar-number-perlarch=avr32ver=0.004-1stamp=1242253350file=logas=raw

Bradley Smith

yeah, I think there is no need for that patch in 0.8.8.
I removed it from git a while ago after I imported the 0.8.8 sources.

Also debian/copyright confuses me, it says the code is MIT, but somehow
upstream has GPL-2 in COPYING, and the above patch says it's GPL as
 well. Could you clarify this?

what a mess! the source files are definitly MIT, I'm pretty sure I asked
upstream about the COPYING file long time ago, I'll see if I can find
that discussion again, or even ask him again.
Although I'm quite sure our conversation ended up with him saying the
software is indeed MIT licensed.

(debian/copyright also has an outdated upstream url,
 http://www.conan.de/touchscreen/evtouch.html has the new release)

ubuntu has 0.8.8 building on new xserver, so that would probably be
 worth looking at as well.

Sure, I'll take a look.

Bah it looks like I somehow forgot to git fetch yesterday before looking

Gna.

This is my fault: Joey was kind enough to add '--skipdeps' to
debhelper's dh_auto_configure on my request (cf. #528235).
I've tested it with Makefile.PL from ExtUtils::MakeMaker and from
Module::Install but not with Module::Build::Compat, and here it seems
to break.

I guess '--skipdeps' should only be added if
inc/Module/Install/AutoInstall.pm really exists. I'm attaching a
preliminary and untested patch as a suggestion.

(Another question is if we can add create_packlist=0 only if
Makefile.PL uses M::B::C; it doesn't break anything in other cases
but the warning we get is not particularly nice either.)

Sorry for the mess ...

Bug#516689: paraview uninstallable

2009-05-14 Thread Raphael Plasson

Hello,

I think that this bug should be moved from Serious to Grave, as
actually its current state makes it uninstallable in most of the
situations. The package shouldn't have been moved to testing before
solving the bug.

This should be solved by making it compatible with the python-vtk
package, as the people interested in using paraview are more likely to
also be interested in using python-vtk (or other packages depending on
it, like mayavi) at the same time. For the moment, there are no other
solution that having install/deinstall cycles in order to use them
alternatively. It can be noted that because of the conflict, it is
impossible to install at the same time all the recommended package of
the metapackage science-viewing, which impairs its usability.

 Hi,

I was reviewing a list of old bugs in the Ubuntu bug tracker, and came across:
 https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cron/+bug/46649

I then reviewed the Ubuntu and Debian packages and found that while the most
serious issue of not checking setuid() was addressed in 3.0pl1-64, checks for
setgid() and initgroups() were not added. Other distributions (eg Gentoo and
RedHat) fixed these calls as well. I was then curious to see when these
two calls could fail and found that sys_setgid can fail via LSM and
CAP_SETGID and sys_setgroups() can fail via LSM, CAP_SETGID,
NGROUPS_MAX, and ENOMEM. As such, Ubuntu plans to release a fix for this
in our stable releases with the following changelog:

   * SECURITY UPDATE: cron does not check the return code of setgid() and
initgroups(), which under certain circumstances could cause applications
to run with elevated group privileges. Note that the more serious issue
of not checking the return code of setuid() was fixed in 3.0pl1-64.
 (LP: #46649)
 - do_command.c: check return code of setgid() and initgroups()
 - CVE-2006-2607

We thought you might be interested in doing the same.

thanks for submitting this report. this is very helpful and a great
step toward better collaboration on security issues!

Hi,
the xmpp-plugin segfault with the new version (0.8.13~rc1-1) of irssi. It works
fine with 0.8.12-6.
The segfault is after a successfully identification, something like that :
 1) /load xmpp
 2) /xmppconnect j...@server password
 3) [...] 23:45 -!- Irssi: Connection to server.truc established
 4) 23:45 -!-Segfault

If you need a trace, just ask. But I think that it is very easy to reproduce...

Cheers,

Bug#517225: no more udevsettle

2009-05-14 Thread Arnaud Launay
By the way, udev 0.141-1 doesn't include anymore udevsettle,
which was an alias to udevadm.

I think the init script should of course include a dependency to
udev, but also be updated to read udevadm settle instead of
udevsettle.

Arnaud.

Bug#527983: gnome-system-tools: time-admin can't unlock in some cases.(consequences: ??date/time applet become useless)

I can't reproduce it that way. When I right-click on the clock applet, a

I can reproduce this by starting time-admin directly on the
command line with sudo time-admin. Everything is greyed and you can't do
anything useful.

So I think a probable consequence: date/time applet in gnome-pannel
 become useless.

It's not useless (it displays the time)... but it's less useful for sure.

Bug#528514: can we get you to try a patch

2009-05-14 Thread Sam Hartman
Dear Bastian: Greg Hudson from the MIT Kerberos team believes he has
found a problem, but we still don't have a test environment. I'm
going to include the following patch in 1.7dfsg~beta2-2, and I'd
appreciate it if you could try this and get back to us--either directly from
the patch or from the upload.

I probably will not make the next dinstall run so it may be a bit
before this hits the mirrors.

I'm not sure if this is related, but last night when I upgraded to the
pre2 Kerberos libraries from pre1 on my laptop, Negotiate-Auth / SPNEGO
to Windows Active Directory servers via a cross-realm trust stopped
working. I got the correct cross-realm tickets but Firefox failed to
authenticate and fell back on Basic-Auth.

I'm not near that system at the moment, but tonight I'll test
downgrading the library and see if that fixes it.

Bug#513891: tuxcmd: Does not run at all

2009-05-14 Thread Salvatore Bonaccorso
Hi Tomas

It passed now really much time since my last reply. Last days now a
new version of fpc was uploaded (2.2.4-1).

Can you please try, if compilation under powerpc works fine, and then
now you can use tuxcmd? (See http://bugs.debian.org/515035, hope with
the new version this may be solved).

dget -x http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/t/tuxcmd/tuxcmd_0.6.50-3.dsc
cd tuxcmd-0.6.50/
# satisfy the build-dependencies
dpkg-buildpackage -b

Then in ../tuxcmd_0.6.50-3_powerpc.deb is the deb package.

Could you please then tell me if it still fails?

If you do not want to build the package, you can also wait, until the
package builds (https://buildd.debian.org/pkg.cgi?pkg=tuxcmd). But
upstream told me anyway that tuxcmd will work only under i386 and
amd64, so I anyway finally should try to let keep only for these
architectures tuxcmd in the archive.

Bests
Salvatore

Also please note that recent changes to 'console-setup' were made on my
behalf, and the current bug may well be related to loose strings
regarding those changes. I carried out experimentation last year with
many things, two of which were: building custom kernels, and configuring
my virtual terminals to my own liking. In the course of those
experiments, I discovered that the kernel font called 10x18 provided a
balance of readability with maximizing the amount of information that
could be fit on one screen. At that time, I discovered that another
package, 'console-tools', was replacing the kernel font with software
fonts once the Debian boot scripts were run. However, the
'console-tools' configuration allowed for settings which would prevent
the software font from being loaded -- allowing me to use the desired
kernel font.

The recent changes to 'xserver-xorg' brought in the 'console-setup'
package as a new dependency. I found that 'console-setup' was loading
software fonts at boot time, and found no mechanism for allowing the
kernel font to be left in place.

I assumed that this was not a bug, and posted a question to
debian-b...@lists.debian.org asking whether 'console-setup' had a
mechanism that would allow me to continue using the kernel font on my
virtual terminals. Colin Watson responded by creating a patch for me to
test which would allow the behavior seen with 'console-tools': leaving
FONTFACE and FONTSIZE undefined in /etc/default/console-setup would
prevent a software font from being loaded by 'setupcon', and the kernel
font would be left in place.

I was running with the patched 'setupcon' on my system when the update
of 'console-setup' appeared. At the next

Justification: renders package unusable

texlive-base fails to get installed on lenny. Since I had trouble to
install
texlive on system where tetex was previously (on etch), I uninstalled
all
tetex packages and proceeded to install texlive in several steps.

apt-get install texlive-base-bin

went OK (texlive-base-bin-doc and texlive-common were installed in this

Package: gst0.10-python
Version: 0.10.14-2
Severity: serious

Hi,

The gst-python-0.10.pc requires python-gtk2-dev. This package is not
pulled by python-gst0.10. I think that creating a -dev package
(depending on python-gtk2-dev) containing gst-python-0.10.pc and the
examples files could be a good idea.

Best regards

Laurent Bigonville

Bug#523345: bug#523345: gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad: Still crashes Pidgin

2009-05-14 Thread Deng Xiyue
Package: gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad
Version: 0.10.11-2
Severity: normal

Similar symptom here. The first time I launch finch, it quits with
Illegal instructions, and from the second time it just segfaults.
Installing pidgin-dbg and gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-dbg still doesn't
give a reasonable backtrace, just:

(gdb) bt full
#0 0x in ?? ()
No symbol table info available.
#1 0x in ?? ()
No symbol table info available.
(gdb)

Strace of finch is attached.

Bug#526365: Please make this a wishlist bug: fault tolerance for bad rules

2009-05-14 Thread Olaf Meeuwissen
I'm the lead developer of Image Scan! for Linux and changed upon this
bug report when investigating the boot failure. While I haven't heard
anything yet through whatever channel you tried to contact us, I figured
that I'd short-circuit the corporate red tape and follow up directly.

Firstly, apologies for causing this mess. From our current research
we believe it was triggered by upstream changes introduced in v129.

Second, heartfelt thanks to Michael for reopening this bug. It will
affect anyone who installed an iscan version between 2.16.0 and 2.19.1
and upgrades from udev-0.125 to any later version that does not strip
out our botched z60_iscan.rules file. That would include everyone
updating to Squeeze once it becomes stable, if not for you reopening!

Third, thanks for your willingness to go through the trouble of actively
ripping out our bad file. We much appreciate that because it has a much
better chance of reaching all systems that need a fix, courtesy of APT.

When I looked into how that file ended up in initrd I was a bit
surprised to see that udev included *all* of /etc/udev/. I had a look
through all the packages that put files there and there are only very
few that I think warrant inclusion in an initrd. As a preventive
measure, would it not be a good idea to get such packages to provide an
initramfs-tools hook to do so themselves instead of udev doing it for
them?

On the iscan side, we're considering adding a hook to keep our file out.
There's nothing in the initrd stage we can think of that would need it
anyway.

Hope this helps,
