Seems like the LVM package still doestn't have proper udev rules to export the UUID in the initrd or it just was created with an older version which doestn't have yet this feature. As workaround you can set GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_UUID=true in /etc/default/grub and then run update-grub again, so that UUIDs won't be used for the root= kernel parameter. -- Felix Zielcke -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#529082: tmux: Bad sockethandling
Hi, i see your point and admit that this has as a consequence the change of the your program. Therefore I will try to drop the utmp privileges after creating the directory. I will send you my modifcations first then. Thanks for your advise. Greets, Ferdinand Am Freitag 22 Mai 2009 20:37:39 schrieb Nicholas Marriott: Actually, I'm wrong, it won't break socket recreation since the subdirectories of /var/run/tmux and the socket themselves still have the correct ownership. The other points are correct, however. So you could drop the utmp privileges completely after creating the directory. On Fri, May 22, 2009 at 07:31:17PM +0100, Nicholas Marriott wrote: Hi This patch does not fix the problem - it doesn't drop the utmp privilege after creating the socket so a user can trivially continue to cause the same issue by using the save-buffer command to create a file in /var/run/tmux. If you do drop the privileges, it will break socket recreation with SIGUSR1 which will appear in 0.9 (and you may need to patch this out of the code or USR1 will kill the server). Of course it is completely up to you, but I recommend you don't do this, you are fixing a minor and easily detected denial-of-service problem by granting unnecessary privileges the abuse of which could potentially be greater. If you do want to do it this way, I suggest that rather than overloading the utmp group you create a new group specifically and only for tmux. Bug#529091: openscenegraph: fails to build on armel hidden symbol (...) is referenced by DSO
El Lunes 18 Mayo 2009ES 17:53:13 Alberto Luaces escribió: El Lunes 18 Mayo 2009ES 13:55:58 Loic Dachary escribió: Based on your research it seems that we need to exclude armel from the list of supported arch for OpenSceneGraph for the time being. Do you see another solution ? Yes, I'm following now Peter's suggestion, so I have now a qemulated armel system on my computer, and now I'm building the package on this platform. If I'm successful reproducing the error, I can ping the OSG list for a fix or at least for a switch in the CMake system in order to deactivate that feature, in the case it were the culprit. The downside is that the compilation is very slow, but at least I don't have to wait several weeks and in additon, I can make as many tests as I need. I have located the problem. Unfortunately it lies on Sid g++ versions 4.3.3-10 and 4.4.0-5 of armel's g++. * Antecedents: Newer versions of OSG make use of GCC builtin atomic operations where available in order to improve efficiency (__sync_bool_compare_and_swap, __sync_sub_and_fetch, __sync_add_and_fetch...). The specific code that uses those GCC intrinsic functions is located in OpenThreads, but inlined on the headers this library. * Problem: On armel, if one links an object file using those intrinsic functions to make a shared object with the g++ driver, the intrinsic functions remain undefined on the resultant library, that's why the build of OSG package fails when linking the first executable, osgviewer. I have written this small testcase: debian-armel:~# cat foo.c void doit(void **p, void *val, void *val2) { __sync_bool_compare_and_swap(p, val, val2); } debian-armel:~# gcc foo.c -c debian-armel:~# g++ -shared foo.o -o libfoo.so debian-armel:~# nm -D libfoo.so | grep sync U __sync_bool_compare_and_swap_4 debian-armel:~# gcc -shared foo.o -o libfoo.so debian-armel:~# nm -D libfoo.so | grep sync debian-armel:~# * Solutions: I'm going to submit a bug report for g++, but anyway I don't think we are going to get a fix anytime soon, I don't know if it is allowed for the Debian packaging rules to change the compiling options for certain platforms. If it were the case, I could dive into OSG's CMake build system and put a switch in order to deactivate the use of intrinsics. We would use that switch only for armel. We could also modify OSG's test for the availability of intrinsics in order to not only test if a program using them could be compiled, but also if the compiler is also able to link a simple program with a library using them. This way we could have a platform independent test, not just something specific for armel. I'd appreciate if people could test it against lenny's xorg-server, and/or suggest better ways to do this. That patch doesn't work, because X craps itself if both a pci and a fb driver are loaded. I plan to revert it for lenny r2, and if time permits I'll try to make the xserver-xorg package generate an xorg.conf with Driver set to fbdev instead.. Bug#530400: CVE-2009-137{7,8,9}
Package: openssl Severity: serious Tags: security patch -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi, the following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities Exposures) ids were published for openssl. CVE-2009-1377[0]: | The dtls1_buffer_record function in ssl/d1_pkt.c in OpenSSL 0.9.8k and | earlier 0.9.8 versions allows remote attackers to cause a denial of | service (memory consumption) via a large series of future epoch DTLS | records that are buffered in a queue, aka DTLS record buffer | limitation bug. CVE-2009-1378[1]: | Multiple memory leaks in the dtls1_process_out_of_seq_message function | in ssl/d1_both.c in OpenSSL 0.9.8k and earlier 0.9.8 versions allow | remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption) via | DTLS records that (1) are duplicates or (2) have sequence numbers much | greater than current sequence numbers, aka DTLS fragment handling | memory leak. Bug#529091: openscenegraph: fails to build on armel hidden symbol (...) is referenced by DSO
Alberto Luaces wrote: El Lunes 18 Mayo 2009ES 17:53:13 Alberto Luaces escribió: El Lunes 18 Mayo 2009ES 13:55:58 Loic Dachary escribió: Based on your research it seems that we need to exclude armel from the list of supported arch for OpenSceneGraph for the time being. Do you see another solution ? Yes, I'm following now Peter's suggestion, so I have now a qemulated armel system on my computer, and now I'm building the package on this platform. If I'm successful reproducing the error, I can ping the OSG list for a fix or at least for a switch in the CMake system in order to deactivate that feature, in the case it were the culprit. The downside is that the compilation is very slow, but at least I don't have to wait several weeks and in additon, I can make as many tests as I need. I have located the problem. Unfortunately it lies on Sid g++ versions 4.3.3-10 and 4.4.0-5 of armel's g++. * Antecedents: Newer versions of OSG make use of GCC builtin atomic operations where available in order to improve efficiency (__sync_bool_compare_and_swap, __sync_sub_and_fetch, __sync_add_and_fetch...). The specific code that uses those GCC intrinsic functions is located in OpenThreads, but inlined on the headers this library. * Problem: On armel, if one links an object file using those intrinsic functions to make a shared object with the g++ driver, the intrinsic functions remain undefined on the resultant library, that's why the build of OSG package fails when linking the first executable, osgviewer. I have written this small testcase: debian-armel:~# cat foo.c void doit(void **p, void *val, void *val2) { __sync_bool_compare_and_swap(p, val, val2); } debian-armel:~# gcc foo.c -c debian-armel:~# g++ -shared foo.o -o libfoo.so debian-armel:~# nm -D libfoo.so | grep sync U __sync_bool_compare_and_swap_4 debian-armel:~# gcc -shared foo.o -o libfoo.so debian-armel:~# nm -D libfoo.so | grep sync debian-armel:~# * Solutions: I'm going to submit a bug report for g++, but anyway I don't think we are going to get a fix anytime soon, I don't know if it is allowed for the Debian packaging rules to change the compiling options for certain platforms. If it were the case, I could dive into OSG's CMake build system and put a switch in order to deactivate the use of intrinsics. We would use that switch only for armel. We could also modify OSG's test for the availability of intrinsics in order to not only test if a program using them could be compiled, but also if the compiler is also able to link a simple program with a library using them. This way we could have a platform independent test, not just something specific for armel. Awesome work :-) If you come up with a way to disable this with a CMake option, I'll set it for armel only in the upcoming 2.8.1 package. As long as it does not change the functionalities (only speed), it is acceptable. Bug#529073: dvdbackup: 0.4 Broken, Fix Upstream?
Package: dvdbackup Version: 0.4-1 Severity: normal Tags: fixed-upstream I've experienced the described failing, with these observations. Titleset VOBs other than the first are bogus, sometimes just copies of the first. For example, the md5sum of VTS_01_02.VOB (and VTS_01_03.VOB, ...) is could be the same as VTS_01_01.VOB . Playback obviously fails after the frist gig of video plays from VTS_01_01.VOB , which on a DVD-5 would feel like a quarter of the material (as previously reported). Anyway, I can't follow the code, but a change was made upstream that sounds like it may fix the problem. See revision 67 http://dvdbackup.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/dvdbackup?view=revrevision=67 and patch http://dvdbackup.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/dvdbackup/trunk/src/dvdbackup.c?view=patchr1=67r2=66pathrev=67, which seems was been brought up on their mailing list http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_name=032520091923.28561.49CA84B8000ECD496F9122218865869B0A02D2089B9A019C04040A0DBF9D0A0C020A9F9C0B9D0E020A04%40att.netforum_name=dvdbackup-bugs. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages dvdbackup depends on: ii libc6 2.9-4 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libdvdread4 4.1.3-5library for reading DVDs dvdbackup recommends no packages. I. Description SASL (Simple Authentication and Security Layer) is a method for adding authentication support to various protocols. SASL is commonly used by mail servers to request authentication from clients and by clients to authenticate to servers. The sasl_encode64() function converts a string into base64. The Cyrus SASL library contains buffer overflows that occur because of unsafe use of the sasl_encode64() function. II. Impact A remote attacker might be able to execute code, or cause any programs relying on SASL to crash or be unavailable. III. Solution: Upgrade Cyrus SASL 2.1.23 has been released to address this issue. Before releasing fixed binaries, maintainers are encouraged to review the Cyrus vendor statement associated with this note. Bug#530463: Need to link against -lboost_filesystem-mt
Package: dammit Severity: serious Justification: no longer builds from source Due to the recently-introduced package boost-defaults [1], the unversioned Boost -dev packages changed from Boost version 1.34.1 to version 1.38.0. You package now fails to build due to that change. Specifically, you will need to link against -mt variants of the boost libraries. Upstream stopped building separate single- and multi-threaded variants of all libraries and Debian followed suit as of 1.37.0. The single-threaded variant was named, e.g. -lboost_regex while the multi-threaded variant was suffixed with -mt, i.e. named -lboost_regex-mt. Your package needs to change its linker arguments.
