Bug#530357: grub2: Grub2 after 1.96+20090317-1(last working ver) broken. root=UUID=... cannot be found.

2009-05-24 Thread Mateusz Kaduk
Package: grub2
Version: 1.96+20090317-1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

After upgrading to older than 1.96+20090317-1 grub2.
I experience rootfs timeout due to missing UUID and falling back to (initramfs)
busybox.
After
ls /dev/disk/by-uuid on (initramfs)
directory does not contain that UUID, while after activating lvm and chrooting
I see that those UUID exist there.

Details dmesg + initrams screen + broken grub.cfg in attachment.

Seems like the LVM package still doestn't have proper udev rules to
export the UUID in the initrd or it just was created with an older
version which doestn't have yet this feature.
As workaround you can set GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_UUID=true
in /etc/default/grub and then run update-grub again, so that UUIDs won't
be used for the root= kernel parameter.

Package: python-gdal
Version: 1.6.1-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,
I've installed python gdal, it does not import some of the modules
correctly.
Here's an output from python:
$ python

[GCC 4.3.3] on linux2

(init_gdal_array)

###
I installed the whole gdal package from sources and that solves my
problem. So I guess something is malfunctioning with debian packages.

Thanks for the great work,

Oz.

mercurial-1.2.1-2 does not exist for i386, although
mercurial-common-1.2.1-2 does. Given that mercurial depends on the
identical version of mercurial-common, this prevents installation.

Temporarily uninstallable package in sid is a natural phenomenon, which
does not justify filing a bug. However, in this case, Mercurial failed

Hmm, good point indeed, thanks.

@d-haskell: This seems to affect most of our packages. So what do we do
about this? Revert to sourceful uploads again? Manually upload 1.4.5-3

guess)? Make -doc packages arch-dependent?

Hi,

Thanks for your advise.

 Actually, I'm wrong, it won't break socket recreation since the

  Hi

  This patch does not fix the problem - it doesn't drop the utmp privilege
  after creating the socket so a user can trivially continue to cause the
  same issue by using the save-buffer command to create a file in
  /var/run/tmux.

  If you do drop the privileges, it will break socket recreation with
  SIGUSR1 which will appear in 0.9 (and you may need to patch this out of
  the code or USR1 will kill the server).

  Of course it is completely up to you, but I recommend you don't do this,
  you are fixing a minor and easily detected denial-of-service problem by
  granting unnecessary privileges the abuse of which could potentially be
  greater.

  If you do want to do it this way, I suggest that rather than overloading
  the utmp group you create a new group specifically and only for tmux.

  Best regards

  Nicholas

Good.

I've been made to notice that kallery is apparently dead upstream, and
still using kdelibs3.

The current effort of the kde team is to try to upgrade or remove as
many kdelibs3 dependencies as possible, so that kdelibs3 can be
removed from squeeze or, as a maximum, squeeze+1.

What do you think will happen with kallery ? Do you think upstream
will have the resources for the move? Would you do the migration
yourself?

Bug#529091: openscenegraph: fails to build on armel hidden symbol (...) is referenced by DSO

 El Lunes 18 Mayo 2009ES 13:55:58 Loic Dachary escribió:
  Based on your research it seems that we need to exclude armel from the
  list of supported arch for OpenSceneGraph for the time being. Do you
  see another solution ?

 Yes, I'm following now Peter's suggestion, so I have now a qemulated
 armel system on my computer, and now I'm building the package on this
 platform. If I'm successful reproducing the error, I can ping the OSG list
 for a fix or at least for a switch in the CMake system in order to
 deactivate that feature, in the case it were the culprit. The downside is
 that the compilation is very slow, but at least I don't have to wait
 several weeks and in additon, I can make as many tests as I need.

I have located the problem. Unfortunately it lies on Sid g++ versions 4.3.3-10
and 4.4.0-5 of armel's g++.

* Antecedents:

Newer versions of OSG make use of GCC builtin atomic operations where
available in order to improve efficiency (__sync_bool_compare_and_swap,
__sync_sub_and_fetch, __sync_add_and_fetch...). The specific code that uses
those GCC intrinsic functions is located in OpenThreads, but inlined on the
headers this library.

* Problem:

On armel, if one links an object file using those intrinsic functions to make
a shared object with the g++ driver, the intrinsic functions remain undefined
on the resultant library, that's why the build of OSG package fails when
linking the first executable, osgviewer. I have written this small testcase:

debian-armel:~# cat foo.c
void doit(void **p, void *val, void *val2)
{
  __sync_bool_compare_and_swap(p, val, val2);
}
debian-armel:~# gcc foo.c -c
debian-armel:~# g++ -shared foo.o -o libfoo.so
debian-armel:~# nm -D libfoo.so | grep sync
 U __sync_bool_compare_and_swap_4
debian-armel:~# gcc -shared foo.o -o libfoo.so
debian-armel:~# nm -D libfoo.so | grep sync
debian-armel:~#

* Solutions:

I'm going to submit a bug report for g++, but anyway I don't think we are
going to get a fix anytime soon,

I don't know if it is allowed for the Debian packaging rules to change the
compiling options for certain platforms. If it were the case, I could dive
into OSG's CMake build system and put a switch in order to deactivate the use
of intrinsics. We would use that switch only for armel.

We could also modify OSG's test for the availability of intrinsics in order to
not only test if a program using them could be compiled, but also if the
compiler is also able to link a simple program with a library using them.
This way we could have a platform independent test, not just something
specific for armel.

Regards,

Alberto

This was due to a missing dependency on libtool.

However, it's now building correctly, since php5-dev now depends on
libtool, and php-imagick depends on php5-dev

Re-scheduling php-imagick would fix this problem

 OK so here is a tentative patch to fall back to the fbdev driver on

That patch doesn't work, because X craps itself if both a pci and a fb

Bug#527532: specter: FTBFS: 'PATH_MAX' undeclared here

2009-05-24 Thread Barry deFreese

Hi,

Adding limits.h is really not the best answer here. It works and that's
how the author intended it but PATH_MAX is just wrong. I am going to
work on a patch that doesn't use PATH_MAX so that the package may also
build on other archs such as GNU/Hurd.

Thanks!

Never mind, I lied, it will never work on GNU/Hurd. I'll QA upload this
fix.

Bug#530393: uim-xim segfaulting in sid

2009-05-24 Thread Leonardo Boiko
Package: uim-xim
Version: 1:1.5.5-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

uim-xim is segfault in my freshly-installed sid box. Applications using
xmodifie...@im=uim seem to either hang (urxvt) or crash (emacs) when it
happens. GTK apps using GTK_IM_MODULE=uim work. I'm using en_US.UTF-8
throughly.

Here's the output of --trace-xim:

 $ uim-xim --trace-xim
 uim - XIM bridge. Supporting multiple locales.
 Using full-synchronous XIM event flow
 Supported conversion engines:

And here's a backtrace I got with LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/debug, after
installing relevant -dbg libs (I'm not sure it sounds ok, perhaps I'm doing
something wrong?)

 Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

Hi,
the following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities Exposures) ids were
published for openssl.

CVE-2009-1377[0]:
| The dtls1_buffer_record function in ssl/d1_pkt.c in OpenSSL 0.9.8k and
| earlier 0.9.8 versions allows remote attackers to cause a denial of
| service (memory consumption) via a large series of future epoch DTLS
| records that are buffered in a queue, aka DTLS record buffer
| limitation bug.

CVE-2009-1378[1]:
| Multiple memory leaks in the dtls1_process_out_of_seq_message function
| in ssl/d1_both.c in OpenSSL 0.9.8k and earlier 0.9.8 versions allow
| remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption) via
| DTLS records that (1) are duplicates or (2) have sequence numbers much
| greater than current sequence numbers, aka DTLS fragment handling
| memory leak.

CVE-2009-1379[2]:
| Use-after-free vulnerability in the dtls1_retrieve_buffered_fragment
| function in ssl/d1_both.c in OpenSSL 1.0.0 Beta 2 allows remote
| attackers to cause a denial of service (openssl s_client crash) and
| possibly have unspecified other impact via a DTLS packet, as
| demonstrated by a packet from a server that uses a crafted server
| certificate.

If you fix the vulnerabilities please also make sure to include the
CVE ids in your changelog entry.

Bug#529091: openscenegraph: fails to build on armel hidden symbol (...) is referenced by DSO

Unfortunately it lies on Sid g++ versions 4.3.3-10
and 4.4.0-5 of armel's g++.

* Antecedents:

Newer versions of OSG make use of GCC builtin atomic operations where
available in order to improve efficiency (__sync_bool_compare_and_swap,
__sync_sub_and_fetch, __sync_add_and_fetch...). The specific code that uses
those GCC intrinsic functions is located in OpenThreads, but inlined on the
headers this library.

* Problem:

{
  __sync_bool_compare_and_swap(p, val, val2);
}
debian-armel:~# gcc foo.c -c
debian-armel:~# g++ -shared foo.o -o libfoo.so
debian-armel:~# nm -D libfoo.so | grep sync
 U __sync_bool_compare_and_swap_4
debian-armel:~# gcc -shared foo.o -o libfoo.so
debian-armel:~# nm -D libfoo.so | grep sync
debian-armel:~#

* Solutions:

Awesome work :-) If you come up with a way to disable this with a CMake
option, I'll set it for armel only in the upcoming 2.8.1 package. As
long as it does not change the functionalities (only speed), it is
acceptable.

Cheers

Bug#529073: dvdbackup: 0.4 Broken, Fix Upstream?

2009-05-24 Thread Dave Allen Barker Jr
Package: dvdbackup
Version: 0.4-1
Severity: normal
Tags: fixed-upstream

I've experienced the described failing, with these observations.

Titleset VOBs other than the first are bogus, sometimes just copies of the
first.  For example,
the md5sum of VTS_01_02.VOB (and VTS_01_03.VOB, ...) is could be the same as
VTS_01_01.VOB .
Playback obviously fails after the frist gig of video plays from VTS_01_01.VOB
, which on a
DVD-5 would feel like a quarter of the material (as previously reported).

Anyway, I can't follow the code, but a change was made upstream that sounds
like it may fix the
problem.  See revision 67
http://dvdbackup.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/dvdbackup?view=revrevision=67
and patch
http://dvdbackup.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/dvdbackup/trunk/src/dvdbackup.c?view=patchr1=67r2=66pathrev=67,

which seems was
been brought up on their mailing list

Hi,

The following vulnerability has been published for Cyrus SASL:

Cyrus SASL library buffer overflow vulnerability

Overview

The Cyrus SASL library contains a buffer overflow vulnerability that could
allow an attacker to execute code or cause a vulnerable program to crash.

I. Description
SASL (Simple Authentication and Security Layer) is a method for adding
authentication support to various protocols. SASL is commonly used by mail
servers to request authentication from clients and by clients to
authenticate to servers.

The sasl_encode64() function converts a string into base64. The Cyrus SASL
library contains buffer overflows that occur because of unsafe use of the
sasl_encode64() function.

II. Impact
A remote attacker might be able to execute code, or cause any programs
relying on SASL to crash or be unavailable.

III. Solution: Upgrade
Cyrus SASL 2.1.23 has been released to address this issue. Before
releasing fixed binaries, maintainers are encouraged to review the Cyrus
vendor statement associated with this note.

See also: http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/RGII-7RYLZQ

This is CVE-2009-0688 and VU#238019.
Please mention these references in your changelogs.

Can you provide updated packages for sid, and assess whether etch/lenny
are affected?

thanks,
Thijs

Package: hotkeys
Version: 0.5.7.1.1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Below is a strace. Problem occurs after recent upgrades though I'm
not sure which package upgrade caused the change in behaviour. I've
tried a recompile just to make sure it's not something easy.

Bug#530426: fglrx-modules-2.6.26-2-686: Module is older than fglrx-driver in testing

2009-05-24 Thread Alexey Feldgendler

Package: fglrx-modules-2.6.26-2-686
Version: 2.6.26+8-12-2+lenny1
Severity: grave
File: /lib/modules/2.6.26-2-686/nonfree/fglrx/fglrx.ko

I've got both fglrx-modules-2.6.26-2-686 and fglrx-driver (1:9-2-2)
from testing.

From the X11 log:

(II) fglrx(0): Kernel Module Version Information:
(II) fglrx(0): Name: fglrx
(II) fglrx(0): Version: 8.56.4
(II) fglrx(0): Date: Dec  1 2008
(II) fglrx(0): Desc: ATI FireGL DRM kernel module
(WW) fglrx(0): Kernel Module version does *not* match driver.
(EE) fglrx(0): incompatible kernel module detected - HW accelerated OpenGL
will not work

This makes the package unusable, hence the severity.

However, fglrx.ko built from fglrx-source (1:9-2-2) in testing reports
version 8.58.2 and is accepted by fglrx-driver.

This is due to the following change in xutils 1:7.3+11:

The current plan is to reintroduce the dependency for the lenny release,
then restore this change soon afterwards. At that point, this bug will

It might be enough to change the libneon build dependency

 I plan to revert it for lenny r2, and if time permits I'll try to
 make the xserver-xorg package generate an xorg.conf with Driver set
 to fbdev instead..

Indeed, that's likely to work much better.

hi

thanx to remind me this issue

Ubuntu used the same patch, I merged in upcoming version at :
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/a/atitvout/

I think it is ready to be uploaded like francois did for previous version

btw, maybe packaging lrmi alone would be a good thing for later

This is a serious bug as it makes installation fail. Possible
solutions are to have the two packages conflict, to rename the common
file in one of the two packages, or to remove the file from one
package and have this package depend on the other package. File
diversions or a Replace relation are another possibility.

Here is a list of files that are known to be shared by both packages
(according to the Contents file for sid/amd64, which may be
slightly out of sync):

This bug is assigned to both packages. If you, the maintainers of
the two packages in question, have agreed on which of the packages will
resolve the problem please reassign the bug to that package.

Bug#530460: Incorrect XML encoding specified in nunit config files

2009-05-24 Thread Jonathan E. Magen
Package: nunit
Version: 2.4.7+dfsg-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

The following XML config files have the incorrect encoding in the XML
declaration:
/usr/lib/nunit/nunit-console.exe.config
/usr/lib/nunit/nunit.exe.config

The encoding is Windows-1252 but that triggers a major error with huge
traceback on my system. I changed it to utf-8 and all was well.

Bug#530463: Need to link against -lboost_filesystem-mt

You package now fails to build due to that change. Specifically, you
will need to link against -mt variants of the boost libraries.

Due to the recently-introduced package boost-defaults [1], the
unversioned Boost -dev packages changed from Boost version 1.34.1 to

You package now fails to build due to that change. CMake fails to

Bug#530483: Needs update for new Boost

2009-05-24 Thread Steve M. Robbins
Package: vegastrike

Justification: no longer builds from source

Due to the recently-introduced package boost-defaults [1], the

Bug#530484: Needs to link against boost_filesystem-mt

2009-05-24 Thread Steve M. Robbins
Package: xsd
Severity: serious
Justification: no longer builds from source

Due to the recently-introduced package boost-defaults [1], the
unversioned Boost -dev packages changed from Boost version 1.34.1 to
version 1.38.0.

You package now fails to build due to that change. Specifically, you
will need to link against -mt variants of the boost libraries.

Upstream stopped building separate single- and multi-threaded variants
of all libraries and Debian followed suit as of 1.37.0. The
single-threaded variant was named, e.g. -lboost_regex while the
multi-threaded variant was suffixed with -mt, i.e. named
-lboost_regex-mt. Your package needs to change its linker
arguments.

It's libbsd's fault, thus taking the bug, will be fixed in next
