Possible solutions are to have the two packages conflict, to rename the common file in one of the two packages, or to remove the file from one package and have this package depend on the other package. File diversions or a Replace relation are another possibility. Here is a list of files that are known to be shared by both packages (according to the Contents file for sid/amd64, which may be slightly out of sync): usr/share/php/.registry/xml_util.reg usr/share/php/XML/Util.php This bug is assigned to both packages. If you, the maintainers of the two packages in question, have agreed on which of the packages will resolve the problem please reassign the bug to that package. -Ralf. --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Source: php5 Source-Version: 5.2.10.dfsg.1-2 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of php5, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: libapache2-mod-php5_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2_i386.deb to pool/main/p/php5/libapache2-mod-php5_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2_i386.deb libapache2-mod-php5filter_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2_i386.deb to pool/main/p/php5/libapache2-mod-php5filter_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2_i386.deb php-pear_5.2.10.dfsg.1-2_all.deb t

Bug#533927: libheckle-ruby: FTBFS: tests failed
I'm now sure, that this bug is caused by changes between Ruby 1.8.7.72 and 1.8.7.174, which produce a problem with libparsetree-ruby. The latest upstream version of libparsetree would help, but it would introduce a new package. Packaging sexp_processor, which was split off from ParseTree seems to be an easy task. Unfortunately the latest ParseTree fails to pass all it's tests and it's not very easy to track these problems down. I decided, that if I update libparsetree-ruby, than it must be done right and all tests should pass. Until then, I'm going to simply fix the current version in Debian (See #536437). Bug#536439: installation-reports: Postgresql package problem after clean install of Lenny-Netinst.
Package: installation-reports Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable I had PostgreSQL 8.3 from Lenny running after I "aptitude install postgresql" in a former isntalation, this time I wanted to start it right away, so I clicked the "Database server" field in the "graphical expert instalation" for the XCFE4 desltop. When the mahine rebooted the /etc/postgresql/ folder was created, but it was empty and there were no clusters running. I did a "aptitude purge postgresql?" and a "aptitude install postgresql" and now everything works fine. I use PostgreSQL for the gnumed-client/testing program, by the way ;-) cheers. CVE-2009-1709[0]: | Use-after-free vulnerability in the garbage-collection implementation | in WebCore in WebKit in Apple Safari before 4.0 allows remote | attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (heap | corruption and application crash) via an SVG animation element, | related to SVG set objects, SVG marker elements, the targetElement | attribute, and unspecified "caches." CVE-2009-1698[1]: | WebKit in Apple Safari before 4.0, iPhone OS 1.0 through 2.2.1, and | iPhone OS for iPod touch 1.1 through 2.2.1 does not initialize a | pointer during handling of a Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) attr | function call with a large numerical argument, which allows remote | attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service | (memory corruption and application crash) via a crafted HTML document. CVE-2009-1690[2]: | Use-after-free vulnerability in WebKit, as used in Apple Safari before | 4.0, iPhone OS 1.0 through 2.2.1, iPhone OS for iPod touch 1.1 through | 2.2.1, Google Chrome 1.0.154.53, and possibly other products, allows | remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of | service (memory corruption and application crash) by setting an | unspecified property of an HTML tag that causes child elements to be | freed and later accessed when an HTML error occurs, related to | "recursion in certain DOM event handlers." Bug#536426: linux-image: CIFS in 2.6.30 may get EEXIST on temp file create causing file creation flood
Package: linux-image Version: 2.6.30 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Hi, having fun with your 2.6.30 kernel built from source and cifs. Error became visible when kde's konqueror creates a scratch file for a new version of it's bookmarks. In my config the bookmark file is on the server (samba 3.3.6), qt detects this correctly. This is what happens (strace): lstat64("/home", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0755, st_size=4096, ...}) = 0 lstat64("/home/jpf", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0751, st_size=4096, ...}) = 0 lstat64("/home/jpf/.kde", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0700, st_size=4096, ...}) = 0 lstat64("/home/jpf/.kde/share", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0750, st_size=4096, ...}) = 0 lstat64("/home/jpf/.kde/share/apps", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0750, st_size=4096, ...}) = 0 lstat64("/home/jpf/.kde/share/apps/konqueror", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0750, st_size=4096, ...}) = 0 lstat64("/home/jpf/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/bookmarks.xml", {st_mode=S_IFLNK|0777, st_size=44, ...}) = 0 readlink("/home/jpf/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/bookmarks.xml", "/home/jpf/Roaming/Profiles/kde/bookmarks.xml"..., 4095) = 44 lstat64("/home", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0755, st_size=4096, ...}) = 0 lstat64("/home/jpf", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0751, st_size=4096, ...}) = 0 lstat64("/home/jpf/Roaming", {st_mode=S_IFLNK|0777, st_size=22, ...}) = 0 readlink("/home/jpf/Roaming", "/data/home/jpf/Roaming"..., 4095) = 22 lstat64("/data", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0755, st_size=4096, ...}) = 0 lstat64("/data/home", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0775, st_size=4096, ...}) = 0 lstat64("/data/home/jpf", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0751, st_size=0, ...}) = 0 lstat64("/data/home/jpf/Roaming", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0700, st_size=0, ...}) = 0 lstat64("/data/home/jpf/Roaming/Profiles", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0700, st_size=0, ...}) = 0 lstat64("/data/home/jpf/Roaming/Profiles/kde", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0750, st_size=0, ...}) = 0 lstat64("/data/home/jpf/Roaming/Profiles/kde/bookmarks.xml", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0640, st_size=22178, ...}) = 0 access("/data/home/jpf/Roaming/Profiles/kde/bookmarks.xml", W_OK) = 0 stat64("/data/home/jpf/Roaming/Profiles/kde", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0750, st_size=0, ...}) = 0 open("/data/home/jpf/Roaming/Profiles/kde/bookmarks.xmlnt2752.new", O_RDWR|O_CREAT|O_EXCL|O_LARGEFILE, 0600) = -1 EEXIST (File exists) open("/data/home/jpf/Roaming/Profiles/kde/bookmarks.xmlot2752.new", O_RDWR|O_CREAT|O_EXCL|O_LARGEFILE, 0600) = -1 EEXIST (File exists) open("/data/home/jpf/Roaming/Profiles/kde/bookmarks.xmlpt2752.new", O_RDWR|O_CREAT|O_EXCL|O_LARGEFILE, 0600) = -1 EEXIST (File exists) open("/data/home/jpf/Roaming/Profiles/kde/bookmarks.xmlqt2752.new", O_RDWR|O_CREAT|O_EXCL|O_LARGEFILE, 0600) = -1 EEXIST (File exists) open("/data/home/jpf/Roaming/Profiles/kde/bookmarks.xmlrt2752.new", O_RDWR|O_CREAT|O_EXCL|O_LARGEFILE, 0600) = -1 EEXIST (File exists) open("/data/home/jpf/Roaming/Profiles/kde/bookmarks.xmlst2752.new", O_RDWR|O_CREAT|O_EXCL|O_LARGEFILE, 0600) = -1 EEXIST (File exists) open("/data/home/jpf/Roaming/Profiles/kde/bookmarks.xmltt2752.new", O_RDWR|O_CREAT|O_EXCL|O_LARGEFILE, 0600) = -1 EEXIST (File exists) At least 512 file get created, the problem is that ext3 seems to limit a dir to 64k entries. This limit was reached on the server side. The problem seems to be CIFS related only. It does not happen with a 2.6.29 kernel. It happens with a 2.6.30 kernel on lenny using kde3 and (please forgive me) on ubuntu jaunty with kde4 (having copied the custom kernel to jaunty). I should mention that also the working 2.6.29 kernel was custom built and that the 2.6.30 config was generted using 'make oldconfig'. Any idea? Bug#527488: your config.{guess,sub} patch...
Andreas Henriksson wrote: Hello Peter! Looking over RC bugs I see you've provided solutions for many of them already, great! I wanted to ask you about the patch for bug 527488. Is there any reason you're not doing the regular "remove in clean, copy config.{guess, sub} before config/build"? Removing the files is an easy way of cleaning up, since missing files will be ignored when the package .diff.gz is created It is indeed common practice and would probablly work in this case. by my reading it doesn't strictly comply with policy though. Maybe policy should be changed. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

Bug#536191: keytouch: Amarok plugin saved as XMMS in keyboard file
I have rebased keytouch-editor against its new upstream source, and this does in fact fix the XMMS Amarok confusion, so when that new package gets uploaded to unstable, this bug will be closed. I realize that there are other issues in this bug, but as I said before, I believe that they are caused by a malformed configuration file. So once you get your hands on the new version, go ahead and make a new configuration file for your keyboard, and if that does not fix the problem, go ahead and file a new bug against keytouch. signature.asc Description: PGP signature
Bug#536416: libmimic0.so must link to glib
Package: libmimic0 Version: 1.0.4-1 Severity: serious Justification: Policy 10.2 Hi, libmimic0.so doesn't link to glib, but is using some of its symbols. This leads to unresolvable symbols when using the library. Quoting from policy: Although not enforced by the build tools, shared libraries must be linked against all libraries that they use symbols from in the same way that binaries are. This ensures the correct functioning of the shlibs system and guarantees that all libraries can be safely opened with `dlopen()'. Packagers may wish to use the gcc option `-Wl,-z,defs' when building a shared library. Since this option enforces symbol resolution at build time, a missing library reference will be caught early as a fatal build error. I'll attach a patch fixing this. Bug#523591: haskell-uulib build failure
Hi, Am Donnerstag, den 09.07.2009, 08:41 -0300 schrieb Marco Túlio Gontijo e Silva: > Em Wed, 08 Jul 2009 21:47:48 +0200 > Joachim Breitner escreveu: > (...) > > haskell-uulib_0.9.10-0.1 (nmu by Marco) fails due to: > > > > > Configuring uulib-0.9.10... > > > hlibrary.setup: ffihugs is required but it could not be found. > > > > Marco, did you see that? > > No, sorry. Let’s see what the policy says at http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-relationships.html#s-sourcebinarydeps: The dependencies and conflicts they define must be satisfied (as defined earlier for binary packages) in order to invoke the targets in debian/rules, as follows:[45] Build-Depends, Build-Conflicts The Build-Depends and Build-Conflicts fields must be satisfied when any of the following targets is invoked: build, clean, binary, binary-arch, build-arch, build-indep and binary-indep. Build-Depends-Indep, Build-Conflicts-Indep The Build-Depends-Indep and Build-Conflicts-Indep fields must be satisfied when any of the following targets is invoked: build, build-indep, binary and binary-indep. [..] 45 If you make "build-arch" or "binary-arch", you need Build-Depends. If you make "build-indep" or "binary-indep", you need Build-Depends and Build-Depends-Indep. If you make "build" or "binary", you need both. There is no Build-Depends-Arch; this role is essentially met with Build-Depends. Anyone building the build-indep and binary-indep targets is basically assumed to be building the whole package anyway and so installs all build dependencies. The autobuilders use dpkg-buildpackage -B, which calls build (not build-arch, since it does not yet know how to check for its existence) and binary-arch. The purpose of the original split, I recall, was so that the autobuilders wouldn't need to install extra packages needed only for the binary-indep targets. But without a build-arch/build-indep split, this didn't work, since most of the work is done in the build target, not in the binary target. Now what happens at https://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=haskell-uulib;ver=0.9.10-0.1;arch=armel;stamp=1247019595 We see that it parsed the field: > ** Using build dependencies supplied by package: > Build-Depends: debhelper (>= 5), cdbs, ghc6 (>= 6.8.2), ghc6-prof (>= 6.4.2), > haskell-devscripts (>= 0.6.15+nmu1), cpphs > Build-Depends-Indep: haddock, hugs, ghc6-doc, hscolour (>= 1.8) but did not actually install haddock or any of the others. It then calls $ /usr/bin/fakeroot debian/rules clean and $ debian/rules build which eventually tries to build the hugs package and fails. So something is wrong, but I don’t know what :-). I haven’t used Build-Depends-Indep myself until I copied debian/control from you... It might be that cdbs is the problem: > I'd like to easily be able to tell from debian/rules whether this is > going to be an arch or an arch + indep build in general; this is not > trivial with a common build rule for both cases as in CDBS at the > moment. :-/ http://www.opensubscriber.com/message/debian-de...@lists.debian.org/8732696.html dpkg-buildpackage should support it since 1.10.11: > * Patch dpkg-buildpackage to call debian/rules -qn build-arch, and if > it's available, modify -B handling appropriately. If build-arch is not > available, then when -B was called, do *not* pass -B on to > dpkg-checkbuilddeps. Closes: #203097 But maybe "make -qn" does not work nicely with cdbs. http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=197100 is also enlighting. Maybe we should just put all in Build-Depends, forget about Build-Depends-Indep, until this is solved properly in cdbs, dpkg-dev, buildds and elsewhere :-) Greetings, Joachim Greetings, Joachim -- Joachim "nomeata" Breitner Debian Developer nome...@debian.org | ICQ# 74513189 | GPG-Keyid: 4743206C JID: nome...@joachim-breitner.de | http://people.debian.org/~nomeata signature.asc Description: Dies ist ein digital signierter Nachrichtenteil

Well, this has not been the case for me, and several others, so this is most likely a local problem. > Well, lets track the problem down. I just (today) made a log file (in > the attachment) of a build run with 12.017 from unstable. Where did you get the kernel sources from? Were they clean? (normally, it is not required to run make mrproper, but for reproducing your problem it would be good that we start from the same place). At the very least, rm -rf ./debian; and then show a full log again. I think yo have an old ./debian, and do not have the rights to remove it. Bug#531282: nowned files after purge (policy 6.8)
Tags 531282 +patch thanks Hi, I spent a few minutes to look into that bug: The directory is created in postinst, based on what the user enters and is not deleted in postrm. The problem with this is, that we cannot rely on debconf to be available during postrm. So we need to conditionally check if we can get the configured directory from the debconf database and delete it if it exists. The attached patch does this and defaults to deleting the default path, if it exists (and is not overruled by the debconf value). Still it has some problems: - Users might have configured another path and might not have debconf available during configuration: Will lead into the same situation as now. - I'm not exactly confident, if this usage of debconf is okay, because I remember (IIRC) that it was considered bad practice to abuse the debconf database as a registry, which is basically what this one does. However, feel free to use that patch as a base for whatever you decide to do. Bug#536371: VirtualBox 3 hangs with guest OS network activity
Package: virtualbox-ose Version: 3.0.0-dfsg-2 Severity: serious Justification: This bug prevents one from using network applications in guest OSes in VirtualBox. Hello, I am running Debian Sid, and after the upgrade to VirtualBox, I was eager to test it. However, I noticed that whenever I run a command like "apt-get install ..." in the guest host, which happens to be Ubuntu 9.04, VirtualBox hangs. Then I searched the internet for more information about this problem and found the following bug report: http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/4343 As it is mentioned in the bug report, this bug is fixed in the SVN tree of VirtualBox. Is it possible to have this problem fixed in Debian Sid's version of VirtualBox too? Regards, M. Further this behavior is violating the Debian Policy section 7.1. You might file a bug report with severity "normal", but not a serious bug. The alternative package is available and has to be used accordingly to the policy: "[..] the package names listed may also include lists of alternative package names, separated by vertical bar (pipe) symbols |. In such a case, if any one of the alternative packages is installed, that part of the dependency is considered to be satisfied. [..]" > and are > a bad idea in general (because your package might end up being built > against different packages on different arches). They might be a bad idea in some cases, but not in our case, where libboost-dev is the expected fallback, if libboost1.37-dev is not available. This is the result of more than 4 boost versions in Debian and libboost-dev will stay the alternative version. I don't see any other solution. Downgrading this bug to normal. By itself, it indeed is an invalid configuration > file. Ok, sorry for my overly quick bug report, I hadn't checked whether nbd-server was actually running and assumed it didn't because of the error/warning message. Still, I think that there's something to be improved here: nbd-server gives this warning without any other message that it has started. This message looks pretty serious, especially since the man-page explicitly states that a non-existent or empty config file can be specified without problem. I'd suggest to make it clear in the warning message that nbd-server is still started and/or update the documentation about this message. Or maybe add a default configuration file which nbd-server can parse and which removes this warning message? Bug#536339: Newer versions than that in oldstable cannot build kernel anymore
Package: kernel-package Version: 12.017 Severity: grave This is a bug report for my unstable system which do not have a working mail setup at the moment. So I deleted all that information from my stable box. But it is also related to stable. For long time now I use make-kpkg now to build my kernels. But since several months the recent versions are not able to build kernels (at least recent kernels). The last version I have found to work is the version from oldstable (etch) so I've stick on it. But the problem gets worse as this old version cannot build kernels > 2.6.28.*. Well, lets track the problem down. I just (today) made a log file (in the attachment) of a build run with 12.017 from unstable. I hope, that this package will get stable in future as I like to build the kernel in a clean way and to make it the debian way. Also I want to play with the latest kernels on my unstable machine as there is some features I need to test. Regards Klaus Ps. Ah yes, for the kernel in oldstable some need to add a small line to compile with 2.6 kernels: "INSTALL_FW_PATH=$(INSTALL_MOD_PATH)/lib/firmware/$(version) \" after line 112. -- Klaus Ethgenhttp://www.ethgen.de/ pub 2048R/D1A4EDE5 2000-02-26 Klaus Ethgen Fingerprint: D7 67 71 C4 99 A6 D4 FE EA 40 30 57 3C 88 26 2B exec make kpkg_version=12.017 -f /usr/share/kernel-package/ruleset/minimal.mk debian DEBIAN_REVISION=tha.20 CONFIG_TARGET=menuconfig KPKG_SELECTED_MODULES=""cdfs,madwifi,fglrx"" ROOT_CMD=fakeroot == making target debian/stamp/conf/minimal_debian [new prereqs: ]== This is kernel package version 12.017. test -d debian || mkdir debian test ! -e stamp-building || rm -f stamp-building install -p -m 755 /usr/share/kernel-package/rules debian/rules for file in ChangeLog Control Control.bin86 config templates.in rules; do \ cp -f /usr/share/kernel-package/$file ./debian/; \ done for dir in Config docs examples ruleset scripts pkg po; do \ cp -af /usr/share/kernel-package/$dir ./debian/; \ done test -f debian/control || sed -e 's/=V/2.6.28.5/g' \ -e 's/=D/tha.20/g' -e 's/=A/i386/g' \ -e 's/=SA//g' \ -e 's/=I//g'\ -e 's/=CV/2.6/g'\ -e 's/=M/Klaus Ethgen /g' \ -e 's/=ST/linux/g' -e 's/=B/i386/g'\ /usr/share/kernel-package/Control > debian/control test -f debian/changelog || sed -e 's/=V/2.6.28.5/g' \ -e 's/=D/tha.20/g'-e 's/=A/i386/g' \ -e 's/=ST/linux/g' -e 's/=B/i386/g' \ -e 's/=M/Klaus Ethgen /g' \ /usr/share/kernel-package/changelog > debian/changelog chmod 0644 debian/control debian/changelog test -d ./debian/stamp || mkdir debian/stamp make -f debian/rules debian/stamp/conf/kernel-conf make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.28.5' debian/ruleset/targets/debug.mk:32: warning: overriding commands for target `debian/stamp/install/linux-image-' debian/ruleset/targets/image.mk:34: warning: ignoring old commands for target `debian/stamp/install/linux-image-' debian/ruleset/targets/debug.mk:95: warning: overriding commands for target `debian/stamp/binary/linux-image-' debian/ruleset/targets/image.mk:220: warning: ignoring old commands for target `debian/stamp/binary/linux-image-' debian/ruleset/targets/debug.mk:95: warning: overriding commands for target `-dbg' debian/ruleset/targets/debug.mk:32: warning: ignoring old commands for target `-dbg' debian/ruleset/targets/debug.mk:111: warning: overriding commands for target `debian/stamp/binary/pre-linux-image-' debian/ruleset/targets/image.mk:325: warning: ignoring old commands for target `debian/stamp/binary/pre-linux-image-' debian/ruleset/targets/debug.mk:111: warning: overriding commands for target `-dbg' debian/ruleset/targets/debug.mk:95: warning: ignoring old commands for target `-dbg' debian/ruleset/local.mk:83: *** target file `-dbg' has both : and :: entries.
