Bug#493915: opencv: diff for NMU version 1.0.0-6.2
Hi Thomas, On Thursday 09 July 2009 16:17:56 Thomas Viehmann wrote: Hi, so to honor Raphael's initiative I have prepared an NMU for opencv (versioned as 1.0.0-6.2). Unfortunately, I do not own camera hardware, so an uploader should verify that things still work (e.g. use the python examples from opencv-doc). Great, thanks :). I tried to build the package but failed because of some changes that could not be applied, could you please send me the the compressed diff to avoid any kind of spacing destruction? By the way, I took a look at upstream's vcs, and it looks like they've finally fixed it: http://opencvlibrary.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/opencvlibrary/trunk/opencv/src/highgui/ Cheers, -- Raphael Geissert - Debian Developer www.debian.org - get.debian.net signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.

Hi, Raphael Geissert wrote: I tried to build the package but failed because of some changes that could not be applied, could you please send me the the compressed diff to avoid any kind of spacing destruction? Oh. I thought I had tested it. Maybe if you cut the debian/changelog part? Unfortunately, my mail did not make the bug reports and as I work in /tmp to develop patches I do not have a copy any more, sorry. By the way, I took a look at upstream's vcs, and it looks like they've finally fixed it: http://opencvlibrary.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/opencvlibrary/trunk/opencv/src/highgui/ Yeah, but unless they backported the fix, it seems that opencv changed quite a bit (between 1.0 and current trunk). This rebuild was done with gcc 4.3 instead of gcc 4.2, because gcc 4.3 is now the default on most architectures (even if it's not the case on i386 yet). Consequently, many failures are caused by the switch to gcc 4.3. If you determine that this failure is caused by gcc 4.3, feel free to downgrade this bug to 'important' if your package is only built on i386, and this bug is specific to gcc 4.3 (i.e the package builds fine with gcc 4.2). Yes, I see. Thanks for the report. There are similar problems with debian/copyright, and the perl-doc package (but not libcgi-fast-perl) is also affected. The loose dependencies are intentional so that perl-modules stays installable when the arch-specific builds aren't ready yet, so I suppose the symlinks need to be replaced with real directories. (As noted in #522827, that's going to need some preinst trickery because dpkg doesn't replace symlinks. Completely omitting the changelog is a serious violation. There being the possibility of a slight difference between perl/perl-modules is hardly so, and for a working package in the stable distribution the intent is that there be no difference. For the sake of preventing further Policy lawyer bugs of this variety, I vote that we fix this problem by simply nailing the dependencies between perl-base/perl/perl-modules to an exact equivalence. This may render perl un-installable in unstable at times for some architectures, but heck the most important thing is obviously sticking to the letter of Policy, so let's do it. --bod -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. If somebody has better ideas, please speak up.) Completely omitting the changelog is a serious violation. There being the possibility of a slight difference between perl/perl-modules is hardly so, and for a working package in the stable distribution the intent is that there be no difference. How are you ensuring a stable distribution will not contain a binNMU? That actually seems to be a point where also my must depend on perl-base (= 5.10.0-24) alternative breaks. And in case you wonder why I wrote this bug: When upgrading unstable I got a package without a changelog in apt-listchanges. Policy lawyering is what makes this bug serious, but even without the policy issue I'd have sent you a bug for this annoyance. --bod cu Adrian -- Is there not promise of rain? Bug#534721: Patch
So it turns out the main bug does not affect amd64 (or more generally, roughly systems where (LONG_MAX2) = INT_MAX). There are at least two bugs in the tag comparison: - Assumes number equality is the same as VALUE equality. - Assumes hash equality is the same as string equality. The first causes the bug: Small numbers are stored as (VALUE)((n1)|1); numbers not representable as such are stored as a bignum. If you're fortunate enough to be using amd64, the size of a VALUE (unsigned long) is sufficiently larger than the size of a hash (int) that you can always represent it as a fixed number and you never see this bug. The second bug means sometimes tag/othertag will appear to be valid if tag and othertag have the same hash and both hashes are fixable. Searching for hash collisions is not that difficult - the first example should work on amd64, the second works on x86: $ ruby -r hpricot -e print Hpricot.XML('afuaf/zhgaa') afuaf/zhgaa/afuaf $ ruby -r hpricot -e print Hpricot.XML('yi/zkbaaa') yi/yi The patch below never bothers with the hash comparison because you have to do the string comparison anyway. If you want to re-add the hash comparison as a possible optimization (for e.g. the HTML case), the better way is to replace INT2NUM with INT2FIX instead of doing a bignum comparison. (hpricot_scan.rl is also patched, though you can just apply the same patch file to both.) The other two bugs are still there: - The BogusETag prints as /tag, so it still produces potentially invalid XML. It should probably print something more sensible (tag hpricot=bogus whatever/?). - Invalid XML is still accepted in XML mode, while the correct thing to do is fail. There's another oddity in hpricot_scan.rl/hpricot_scan.c: - The definition of H_ELE(N) for a cBogusETag does H_ELE_SET(ele, H_ELE_ATTR, rb_str_new(raw, rawlen));. Bug#536504: Depends on nonexistent package mono-jit
Package: libapache2-mod-mono Version: 2.0-2 Severity: grave This package depends on mono-jit, which is no longer in unstable. This renders this binary package uninstallable. Bug#536528: gimp-gap: implicit pointer conversions
Package: gimp-gap Version: 2.6.0-1 Severity: serious Tags: patch Usertags: implicit-pointer-conversion Our automated buildd log filter[1] detected a problem that is likely to cause your package to segfault on architectures where the size of a pointer is greater than the size of an integer, such as ia64 and amd64. Function `p_gtk_button_new_from_stock_icon' implicitly converted to pointer at gap_story_section_properties.c:869 Function `gap_fmac_get_alternate_name' implicitly converted to pointer at gap_story_properties.c:3340 Function `g_fopen' implicitly converted to pointer at gap_gve_misc_util.c:358 This is often due to a missing function prototype definition. For more information, see [2]. Though it is guaranteed that this codepath will cause a segfault on certain architectures, it is not guaranteed that this codepath would ever be executed (e.g., if the returned pointer is never dereferenced). However, this bug does prevent the ia64 buildd from successfully building this package, resulting in a practical FTBFS issue and warranting the serious severity. Bug#528126: coreutils: touch does not update timestamp
severity 528126 normal tag 528126 + moreinfo unreproducible thanks steve downes wrote: Touch does not update the timestamp in an existing file. This is particularly relevant to me as it appears to have caused dpkg to fail not fully update leaving a none updatable system. I tested this both on the dpkg.log file on another file. I also checked it worked on other hosts. This seems very odd that the code would work correctly on everyone's system except for yours. And even then it seems like it would be a kernel problem with the utimesat call. Since this doesn't seem to be widely a problem and because no other information has been provided after Mike's follow-up I am marking this normal from severe. Setting up dpkg (1.14.26) ... touch: setting times of `/var/log/dpkg.log' : no such process This comes from the dpkg.postinst script: # Create log file and set default permissions if possible create_logfile() { logfile=/var/log/dpkg.log touch $logfile chmod 640 $logfile chown root:adm $logfile 2/dev/null || chown 0:4 $logfile } Mike already responded that he was unable to reproduce the problem. I am unable to reproduce this problem. I am afraid you will need to debug it or provide more information. In particular what is the output of the trace command? strace -v -o touch.strace touch foo I expect to see something like this: open(foo, O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_NOCTTY|O_NONBLOCK, 0666) = 3 dup2(3, 0) = 0 close(3)= 0 utimensat(0, NULL, NULL, 0) = 0 If the utimes et al system calls are failing then this is a kernel problem and not an application problem. Bug#518037: What can I do to help?
Hi all, I am the main upstream author of libsndfile and I am also a Debain Maintainer (ie not a DD). This bug is currently blocking the transition of libsndfile from unstable to testing. Is there anything I can do to help? Does anyone have a MIPS machine they can give me SSH access to?
