Now autoreconf is being run properly. But the question is how do I
check it? - On my Lenny system the issue does not happen (although
this is a bug indeed). Any advice please?

Have you tried in a clean chroot, maybe?

I'm actually using 1.96+20090808-1 right now, because otherwise,
obviously, it won't boot, so if that appears anywhere, that's why.
And yes, grub-common was running at 1.97 too.

 Anyway, on to the problem.

 out of range pointer 0xebc0

That's what it says after I select a kernel in grub. It does it for
 both 2.6.30 and 2.6.26.

Sorry I can't provide more info, dunno what else to say.

If you need any info, just tell me what to do. :P

Please try without gfxterm.
Uncomment the `GRUB_TERMINAL=console' in /etc/default/grub and run
update-grub.
What's your graphic card?
The best would be if you could do a svn-bisect between r2488 and r2549.

Bug#544669: cryptsetup: /sbin/blkid is not in initramfs

2009-09-02 Thread Mario 'BitKoenig' Holbe
Package: cryptsetup
Version: 2:1.0.7-2
Severity: grave

Hello,

cryptsetup 1.0.7-2 recommends to replace vol_id and un_vol_id by blkid
and un_blkid. Both of these scripts depend on /sbin/blkid.
However, /sbin/blkid is not available in the initramfs image.

Considering your changelog statement that udev will remove vol_id soon,
I'm not sure whether this bug should really be fixed in cryptsetup
itself or if /sbin/blkid should be included in the initramfs either by
initramfs-tools or util-linux directly.

But I suggest you remove from debian/control all packages you don't
need, else compiling will take unnecessary long.
The debian/ directory should work with all upstream revisions between
 2549 (beta1) and 2488 (1.96+20090808)

If that patch isn't the reason for the break, I think it would be good
 to reverse 2494, 2527 or 2494
The others don't look like they could cause this.

As pointed in another post, 1bit_blitters.diff doesn't resolve
antything.

I started bisection, and this are my first results:

Last good revision: 2531
First bad revision: 2532

2531 boots fine.
2532 gives unaligned pointer.

but, this looks like problem in configuration,
because diff with previous version is mostyly about kfreebsd stuff and
generating configuration.

This is difference beetwen my grub.cfg in this two revisions:

   set color_normal=black/black
   set color_highlight=magenta/black
 else
   set menu_color_normal=cyan/blue

So i will probably need to bisect again, this time using explicit
commands each time. And testing if ie. tab completion works in them.

Oh I forgot that r2507 disabled gfxterm by default. So better use
GRUB_TERMINAL=gfxterm to explicitly enable it.
And I forgot also a difference between the squeeze Debian package and
the sid one:
terminal_output.gfxterm vs terminal_output gfxterm
The dot was introduced in 1.96+20090725-1 to workaround a regression,
but then it was dropped again because it actually shouldn't necessary.
GRUB handles this a bit different, with the dot it automatically loads
gfxter.mod but we explicitly insmod it anyway so it shouldn't make a
difference.

Here's a complete diff -u of my grub.cfg between squeeze version and sid
one, maybe that helps a bit:

Bug#543505: rsyslog: Wrong priority format for remote action

2009-09-02 Thread Rainer Gerhards
On Tue, 2009-09-01 at 23:48 +0200, Michael Biebl wrote:
 Andreas Barth wrote:

(iirc there was also a segfault during udp reception, but Rainer knows the
details), so it was not this specific bug report which alone was serious.

Rainer, were you already able to nail down these issues and how far away is
 the
 4.4.1 release?

Quick answer: I feel much better about 4.4.x right now. I will probably
release 4.4.1 today.

In Depth: the segfault is not yet found, but it turns out that it was
present in 4.2.0 as well. Also, only one person reported it so far and
only on one of his (many) systems, this bug seems to be very related to
the environment. I think this is especially true as 4.2.0 was in far
more widespread use and as such I should have heard about the bug
earlier/from more people if it would be likely to occur. So I conclude
it is OK (though not optimal) to do a new release with this bug. I am
still fighting with it. My next step is to try isolate a version where
it was not present (I somewhat think it may even be present in v3 as
well).

To the rest of 4.4.x release, I made a mistake when I handled the beta.
I moved the beta branch to quickly to a new release, without doing a
stable in between. I thought I had sorted this problem out, but when I
made the 4.3.2 beta stable, I obviously missed backporting some bug
fixes that were present in the newer betas. I think all of them have
now been found and sorted out. There still is a chance that I may be
wrong, but git log review plus absence of any more bug reports makes me
think I am right.

So, all in all, it probably is a good time to do a 4.4.1 release.

Rainer

Package: pushover
Version: 0.0.1-1
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.1, 2.2.1

Pushover uses the graphics from the original game; the upstream site
explicitly says The original graphics have been converted and
included.. I see no information anywhere in the package suggesting
that the original game became Free Software, nor can I find any such
information online; neither can I find any information about these
graphics in the debian/copyright file. It seems likely that the author
simply converted the proprietary graphics from the original game without
regard to license.

The upstream site suggests that the author plans to replace the graphics
eventually, and that Replacement graphics for the dominos exist..
However, until Free Software replacement graphics do exist, pushover
cannot go in Debian, even in non-free.

I think the sounds may come from the original game as well.

If indeed the original game *has* become Free Software, then my
apologies for the misunderstanding and RC bug; in that event please
consider this bug simply a request for a clearer debian/copyright file,
giving the author and license for the graphics and sounds separate from
that of the new, Free Software game engine.

You and/or upstream might have some luck adapting the graphics and
sounds from magicor. It includes a 2D penguin walking around, kicking
blocks, and jumping up and down when successfully completing a level.
Not that the Free Software game world needs yet another game with a
penguin protagonist, but better that than no game at all.

Bug#544694: roundcube: Missing dependancy : php-mdb2-driver-mysql

2009-09-02 Thread Joachim 'mario' Jablon
Package: roundcube

Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

After a fresh install, roundcube is unable to connect to the mysql server, and

Bug#544639: out of range pointer 0xebc0

2009-09-02 Thread Timur Mazid

 Please try without gfxterm.
Uncomment the `GRUB_TERMINAL=console' in /etc/default/grub and run
 update-grub.

I've tried using the command line in grub.
Whenever I type in a command, then press either enter or tab, it immediately
shows out of range pointer 0xebc0.

I'll try uncommenting that line as soon as I've got a shell on that computer.

Yup, that's fixed it.
Will I have to make sure in future that it's always uncommented?

  What's your graphic card?

I THINK it's then ATI Radeon IGP 350M.
It's the ATI graphics card for the compaq nc4010 laptop.

lspci actually says it's a 340M. Host bridge: ATI Technologies Inc
RS200/RS200M AGP Bridge [IGP 340M] (rev 02)
If that's of any help to you.

The best would be if you could do a svn-bisect between r2488 and r2549.

I'd be glad to, if I knew how. :P
What's the repo for grub?
From typing in svn-bisect, I'm guessing, I have to do a checkout, then
svn-bisect start, then svn-bisect good 2488, then svn-bisect 2549?
And yes, step-by-step instructions is probably what I need. :P

Thanks for the note. I actually discovered this issue yesterday and
made the appropriate changes on the CPAN server to fix it, but I guess
it took awhile for the information to propagate to the correct server.

I just sent myself a test mail and it seems to be working correctly now.

I apologize for the inconvenience, please verify that it's working

Thanks again.

hey,

On 02/09/2009 Mario 'BitKoenig' Holbe wrote:

and un_blkid. Both of these scripts depend on /sbin/blkid.
However, /sbin/blkid is not available in the initramfs image.

thanks for the bugreport. cryptroot doesn't support checkscripts, thus
check and precheck options are ignored for cryptroot devices anyway. i'm
downgrading severity to normal for that reason.

Considering your changelog statement that udev will remove vol_id soon,
I'm not sure whether this bug should really be fixed in cryptsetup
itself or if /sbin/blkid should be included in the initramfs either by
 initramfs-tools or util-linux directly.

yes, you're correct. util-linux should copy blkid to the initramfs
directly. initramfs-tools will need to be migrated to blkid anyway.
currently it's using vol_id. so the propper fix for this is to ship
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/util-linux within util-linux. the
script should contain something like:

---snip---
#!/bin/sh -e

PREREQ=

prereqs()
{
echo $PREREQ
}

case $1 in
prereqs)
prereqs
exit 0
;;
esac

. /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hook-functions

copy_exec /sbin/blkid
---snap---

this mail downgrades the bug to normal, adds the 'patch' tag, and
reassigns it to the package 'util-linux'.

greetings,
 jonas

I also suggest to edit debian/control and remove every package you don't
need, i.e. keep first block, grub-common and grub-pc and remove
everything else, else it needs very long to build.
And then use svn-bisect like you said.

Oh I forgot to tell you, like in the other report, commit r2507 made
gfxterm non default, so better use GRUB_TERMINAL=gfxterm
in /etc/default/grub so it gets always used.

 Yup, that's fixed it.
Will I have to make sure in future that it's always uncommented?

   What's your graphic card?

I THINK it's then ATI Radeon IGP 350M.
It's the ATI graphics card for the compaq nc4010 laptop.

If that's of any help to you.

Then your problem is related to 544155, they've some other ATI mobility

I'd be glad to, if I knew how. :P

Bug#543468: RIPCache

2009-09-02 Thread Matthew Sachs
This happens to me, too, and I don't have a ~/.cups/client.conf . (I
do, however, have ServerName printserver.company.invalid in the
system-wide /etc/cups/client.conf .)

I did ps axf while it was hung prompting for the password, and the
command doing the prompting was: cupsctl RIPCache=3083788k

As a workaround, I commented out the call to set_ripcache in the initscript.

Bug#544373: Bug#440955: gnome-screensaver or pam_unix2 fails

First I upgraded the machine, and ran into this problem, now I have

I merely note that I cannot log in after the gnome-screensaver locks. I
read this, and have checked and the pam-unix2 package is installed.

Does this problem have a solution? Or do I have another problem?

Your problem looks more like #544373, so please follow up in this bug.

Can you kill gnome-screensaver, launch it again in debug mode (--debug)
and show us what is printed on the standard output?

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Hi, I just did a _very_ cursory look at func from experimental, I don't
think this is supposed to be kept like this:

[22:24] /usr/share/doc/func = ls -l /var/log/func
total 64
-rw-rw-rw- 1 root root 1492 2009-09-01 22:19 audit.log
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 53765 2009-09-01 22:19 func.log

Basically all that I did was (run # as root, $ as user):

# aptitude install func
$ func-inventory # got an exception, read some docs
# certmaster-ca --sign burek
# func-inventory
$ func-inventory

Regards,
Zoran

Bug#544373: gnome-screensaver: Kernel freeze / Keyboard input stops being accepted

écrit :
 Package: gnome-screensaver
 Version: 2.22.2-2
 Severity: critical
 Justification: breaks unrelated software

 * After logging in to gnome, keyboard stops working or kernel freezes hard

 Steps to reproduce:
 * Login to gdm
 * trigger screensaver start (e.g. close laptop lid)

This worked for me as well:
Via ssh to the malfunctioning machine, I ran 'chvt 1'. The console
properly switched to a text console, and the local keyboard worked fine
there. Upon switching back to the X console, the local keyboard again
appeared to be completely dead. This exercise could be repeated any
number of times with the same result. (415147#5)

This looks like some XKB issue to me. Please run gnome-screensaver in
debug mode and report what it prints, there may be some useful hints.

Version: 1.97~beta1-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hello,
After installing grub-pc, the system (using /boot and / on LVM) fails to boot
with the following error:

Entering rescue mode...
error: no such disk

This is not particularly related to grub 1.97, as I've been experiencing this
for some time now. Lilo is able to boot the system correctly. If there's
anything I can do to help you fix this, please let me know.

Regards,
Albin

After a fresh install, roundcube is unable to connect to the mysql server, and
the following error is printed in /var/log/roundcube/errors :

Installing php-mdb2-driver-mysql fixes the issue. Shouldn't it be a depend ?

for LVM.

Uhm this is weird. There should be a `insmod lvm' too.
Then the lvm module isn't probable included in core.img
What do the following commands output?
grub-probe -t device /
grub-probe -t abstraction /dev/mapper/lvm-system

The problem here is that the load/construction of the Scilab
documentation (docbook) is taking a very long time. It would most
probably work with some more time.

Anyway, this process will be optimized in the future.

Hi,
using amsn I was unable to connect after gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad
update. It was crashing with an error like unable to initialize
GStreamer (sorry I forgot to note the exact message). I made an strace
and discovered that the crash occured after amsn tried to access
$HOME/.gstreamer-0.10/registry.i486.bin
I manage to downgrade gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad and -good and it fixed
the problem.
Thanks.

Hi,

On a client-server configuration, since my upgrading to the last unstable

i started to get warnings with logcheck like this :

Check that the files in /dev/mapper are real devices and no symlinks

If they're symlinks then run `echo change /sys/block/dm-X/uevent' and
replace X with the real number to which the symlink links to.
If that doestn't fix it, `rm /dev/mapper/volume cp -R /dev/dm-X

The problem here is that the load/construction of the Scilab
documentation (docbook) is taking a very long time. It would most
probably work with some more time.

Please specify some more time. There was one sucessfull build on s390
for 5.1.1-5, which shows a much lower build time then the idle timeout.
The changelog don't show a reason for such a build time extension.

Oh, and while we are at it. Debian architectures are detected using
dpkg-architecture, not uname -m.

Bug#544639: please test this GRUB snapshot

2009-09-02 Thread Robert Millan

Hi,

I uploaded this GRUB snapshot, it's from right after a video framework
restructure commit that I suspect might be the culprit:

  http://people.debian.org/~rmh/grub-after-fb-split/

Please report if it works. Thanks!

Could you check and fix ?

I cannot reproduce this problem. The packages builds fine on my system
(i386 unstable/testing mix), and I cannot get cowbuilder to work
(cowbuilder --create dies due to cdebootstrap internal error right after
trying to configure libusb-0.1-4).

Can you list the build-deps packages in your cowbuilder environment?

Run `bash -x grub-install --modules=minicmd /dev/sda'
the grub-mkimage line should include lvm.

ignored during installation instead of causing installation to fail.

Bug#544756: linux-image-2.6.26-2-686: Kernel still vulnerable by dsa-1862

2009-09-02 Thread Christoph Siess
Package: linux-image-2.6.26-2-686
Version: 2.6.26-17lenny2
Severity: critical
Tags: security
Justification: root security hole

Hi,

according to http://www.debian.org/security/2009/dsa-1862 this Version of the
2.6.26-2 Kernel should
not be vulnerable to CVE-2009-2692.
Unfortunately I'm still able to break my system:
c...@server:~$ gcc exploit.c -o exploit
c...@server:~$ ./exploit
sh-3.2# id
uid=0(root) gid=0(root) groups=115(wheel),1000(chs)

I got the exploit from http://www.risesecurity.org/exploits/linux-sendpage.c

Correct my if I got something wrong, but according to my understanding this
shouldn't be possible
with version 2.6.26-17lenny2.

regards,
Christoph Siess

But maybe you're affected by the same problem as in 542435, 544577 and
543795 which was actually caused by a change in dmsetup
Check that the files in /dev/mapper are real devices and no symlinks
   to /dev/dm-X

  They are real devices :(

  Regards,

 Run `bash -x grub-install --modules=minicmd /dev/sda'
the grub-mkimage line should include lvm.
and then check on reboot with `lsmod' if lvm is really loaded.
 `ls' should show the LVs

Argh. After running apt-get install --reinstall grub-pc, lvm is now listed in
/boot/grub/grub.cfg, and grub2 is able to boot the system correctly.
Please don't close the bug, though - this has happened to me several times in
the past, and running grub-install after a couple grub-pc updates resulted in
the same kind of error. I absolutely have no clue as to what just happened
there.

Regards,

Hi,

according to http://www.debian.org/security/2009/dsa-1862 this Version of the
2.6.26-2 Kernel should
not be vulnerable to CVE-2009-2692.
Unfortunately I'm still able to break my system:
c...@server:~$ gcc exploit.c -o exploit
c...@server:~$ ./exploit
sh-3.2# id
uid=0(root) gid=0(root) groups=115(wheel),1000(chs)

I got the exploit from http://www.risesecurity.org/exploits/linux-sendpage.c

Correct my if I got something wrong, but according to my understanding this
shouldn't be possible
with version 2.6.26-17lenny2.

 Hi,

according to http://www.debian.org/security/2009/dsa-1862 this Version of the
 2.6.26-2 Kernel should
 not be vulnerable to CVE-2009-2692.
Unfortunately I'm still able to break my system:
 c...@server:~$ gcc exploit.c -o exploit
 c...@server:~$ ./exploit
 sh-3.2# id
 uid=0(root) gid=0(root) groups=115(wheel),1000(chs)

I got the exploit from http://www.risesecurity.org/exploits/linux-sendpage.c

Correct my if I got something wrong, but according to my understanding this
 shouldn't be possible
 with version 2.6.26-17lenny2.

Not reproducible, neither with the Rise Security exploit, nor with Brad's
exploit. Please send the output of uname -a before running the exploit.
This sounds as if you didn't reboot.

Cheers,
Moritz

Package: tkdesk
Version: 2.0-9
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Installed tkdesk.. It required me to have itcl , which is not marked as a
dependancy. Further, tkdesk requires itcl3.2 whereas still has itcl3.1

Hi!

This bug isn't a bug in tkdesk. It was a bug in itcl3, which is fixed
fairly long time ago (see
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=349302).

So, I'm closing the bug.

tkdesk is still broken because of
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=533061 but that bug
can be closed only after itcl3 will be ported to Tcl 8.5 (and tkdesk
as well). It'll be soon.

Cheers!
