It's probably because sid switched to dash in /bin/sh. problems in your patch: Shall compatability = Shell compatibility Sid (Lenny+1) = errr :-) I've uploaded the fixed package to http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/v/valkyrie/. Can you please sponsor an upload? I run rebuilds of all Debian packages on a regular basis. Last time, I filed ~100 bugs. If I had to sponsor the fixes for all the bugs I file, I wouldn't have the time to run the rebuilds. Bug#544773: Update to cryptsetup 2:1.0.7-2 breaks booting
Package: cryptsetup Version: 2:1.0.7-2 Severity: normal Yes, I'm having the same problem here. I updated cryptsetup yeseterday to 2:1.07-2 and now I can't boot my usual 2.6.30-1-amd64 anymore. My other kernels on this machine seem unaffected, just my usual kernel-image does not boot. So I can select/boot 2.6.30-1-686, 2.6.29-2-amd64 or 2.6.29-2-686 with grub-pc for example. Bug#538009: Bug#538218: Broken icon data
forcemerge 538218 538009 thanks Hello, On Fri, 24 Jul 2009 08:48:22 +0200 Eduard Bloch wrote: Hello, first, you are right. But: the problem comes from wicd itself in the first place, therefore I open a second bug report. AFAICS the WM icon data is crappy: xprop | grep ICON | tr ',' '\n' | gview - 62521 62529 406342 Sorry, what is that? Wasting 240 KiB of X server memory JUST FOR ICONS? (Or maybe a half MiB on 64bit systems, not sure which data type it uses for RGBA data). How did you get that data? I checked the contents, we have there: 32x32 version, 64x64, 96x96, 128x128, 36x36, 192x192 versions, in this order, and the last image is not even complete but maybe because xprop is running into its own buffer limits. How did you check the contents? This all does not make sense. The order is unusual, the last icons are huge for no reason, and 36px version is uncommon - who needs it? Usualy applications use 48, 32, 16 versions, in descending order (by size). I'd be glad to fix this, and possibly push a patch upstream. But, I can't simply reproduce this :) (maybe I should just install icewm?) Kindly, David -- . ''`. Bug#543351: [Python-modules-team] Bug#543351: logilab.astng cannot be imported after upgrade from stable
Hi Chris, thanks for your report. On Mon, Aug 24, 2009 at 14:43, Chris Lambla...@debian.org wrote: Package: python-logilab-astng Severity: serious Version: 0.19.0-2 ... I can make it work by manually removing /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/logilab Since all the packages sharing logilab namespace have a new upstream version to package, it's a good time to try to fix this on all of them. The preinst file of logilab-astng is [1]: we already try to fix the migration (central-support) problem but we don't remove to common logilab/ directory. [1] http://svn.debian.org/viewsvn/python-modules/packages/logilab-astng/trunk/debian/python-logilab-astng.preinst?view=markup I'd like to know what would be the best solution for this (hence -python in the loop): - logilab-common is the lower level of logilab* packages, so we can add conflict there with all the other logilab-* packages and then remove logilab/ completely from its preinst - add extra logic to all logilab* packages to check if /usr/lib/python*/site-packages/logilab is empty and then remove it (could there be cases where it left hanging dirs?) I'm considering teh second solution a bit better, but I'd like to hear from your what youi think. Bug#544863: gnuplot: incomplete debian/copyright
Package: gnuplot Version: 4.0.0-5 Severity: serious Hi, debian/copyright misses a few license information. E.g. most (all?) files in lisp/ are distributed under the terms of the GPLv2+. In current versions, e.g. src/wxterminal/gp_cairo.c is dual-licensed under the terms of that gnuplot license and the GPL. Please note that I did not look through all source files, so there might be other cases as well. Please also note that the GPL is incompatible to the gnuplot license. However, this should not impose any problems in the example cases above but it should be kept in mind when checking the copyright information of gnuplot. Bug#544872: xz-utils: data corruption in the compression code
Package: xz-utils Version: 4.999.8beta-1 Severity: critical Justification: causes serious data loss http://tukaani.org/xz/ says: XZ Utils 4.999.9beta was released on 2009-08-27. Among many less important changes, this release fixes a data corruption in the compression code. (The bug was specific to XZ Utils and was not present in 7-Zip or LZMA SDK.) Everyone using an older version of XZ Utils should upgrade. The bug report by Jonathan Stott on Arch Linux (FS#15964) says: Certain files (quite rarely) can become corrupted when extracting from xz compressed files, due to the truncation of the last few bytes. So, if I understand correctly (upstream doesn't provide a test case), once a file is compressed, its original content can definitely be lost since the bug is in the compression code. First of all, these files are usually managed by install-info and thus get overwritten regularly which causes opencubicplayer's package checksums to fail. Second, shipping these files triggers install-info to switch from plain to a compressed Info directory format. Third, (re)installing or upgrading opencubicplayer always corrupts the Info directory this way. The reasons I'm not clearing out dependency_libs immediately are explained n my post at http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2009/08/msg00813.html, and Paul's reply at http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2009/08/msg00854.html, which indicates that libtool upstream may fix this _properly_ in the future. I fixed the bug meanwhile as it was caused by missing dependencies - you did not get installed some configuration which is now separated in rpm-common package. -- Michal Čihař | http://cihar.com | http://blog.cihar.com signature.asc Description: PGP signature

Bug#544877: libsvn_client-1.la and libsvn_ra-1.la depend on libsasl2 but libsvn-dev doesn't
Emilio Pozuelo Monfort wrote: The -dev package should thus depend on libsasl2-dev. Right now anjuta FTBFS because of this, thus severity serious. Add to that libneon27-gnutls-dev, libserf-0-0-dev, at least (those three will fix the anjuta build). Emilio signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Bug#544155: please test this GRUB snapshot
Hi, I uploaded this GRUB snapshot, it's from right after a video framework restructure commit that I suspect might be the culprit: http://people.debian.org/~rmh/grub-after-fb-split/ Please report if it works. Please make sure GRUB is running on gfxterm when you test it!! Tests reporting that it works in console/text mode aren't helpful at all! Bug#544802: opendkim: FTBFS on various archs
Based on the platforms involved, I suspect this is due to the old versions of config.sub and config.guess shipping with the package. However, I have no platform to test on, and I'd rather do so before uploading a package that just updates those (or with a build-depends: autotools-dev). So this package should be installed when compiling gnubiff with gnome support enabled. I added a check in the upstream CVS so there will be a configure message in the next released version instead of a compiler error. Thanks, that helps, but is not _exactly_ what is causing the problem in Debian. In fact, libgnomeui-dev is already installed when building gnubiff since it is a transitive build-dependency of the package. The problem is caused by the fact that now libgnomeui has its own pkg-config name and .pc file. Hence that name should be checked for in configure.ac, the attached patch to that file does fix the problem. Cheers. Bug#544773: [pkg-cryptsetup-devel] Bug#544773: Update to cryptsetup 2:1.0.7-2 breaks booting
hey, On 02/09/2009 Paul Millar wrote: After upgrading a few packages (listed below) I discovered my laptop was unable to boot. The laptop uses a Luks partition with LVM (this was using a standard guided partitioning option back when I was installing Debian). The boot fails at around the same time I would normally be prompted for the passphrase to unlock the Luks partition. One (or more) of the upgraded packages triggered a rebuild of the initrd. Suspecting that this might be the cause of the problem, I tried adjusting the boot process. Using grub's built-in editor, I changed the initrd from the usual value to the backup copy (which has the filename with .bak appended). When booting from the backup copy of the initrd the computer booted without any problem. I then took the two initrd images, unpacked them and compared their contents. There was a number of differences, but the most noticable change was that the file: conf/conf.d/cryptroot that was present in the backup initrd was missing in the new initrd. This file contained cryptographic options for establishing the LVM ontop of the Luks partition. I've copied the contents here: target=sdb2_crypt,source=/dev/sda2,key=none,rootdev,lvm=vedrfolnir-root target=sdb2_crypt,source=/dev/sda2,key=none,lvm=vedrfolnir-swap_1 Suspecting that the absence of this file was causing the problem, I copied the missing conf/conf.d/cryptroot file into the new initrd's contents and repacked the initrd file. Booting off this modified version of new initrd was successful. Therefore, I conclude that the laptop was unable to boot due to the missing conf/conf.d/cryptroot file in the initrd. it seems like the initramfs generation process is broken. unfortunately i'm unable to reproduce the bug on several different setups. please run the following command: # sh -x mkinitramfs -o /tmp/initramfs 2/tmp/initramfs.log and send /tmp/initramfs.log to the bugreport. greetings, jonas signature.asc Description: Digital signature

hey, On 03/09/2009 Linus Lüssing wrote: Yes, I'm having the same problem here. I updated cryptsetup yeseterday to 2:1.07-2 and now I can't boot my usual 2.6.30-1-amd64 anymore. Please hold off NMUing the package, I have a new package containing fixes for this bug, as well as a new upstream release, almost ready to upload. I was waiting for upstream to release a new tarball, as the currently released one is not clean; it contains configure results and a cygwin build. However, since upstream haven't responded I will upload the new version with some debian/rules hacks to clean it all up. I will work on this now and try to get it uploaded later this evening.
