Yes. install-info does give some error messages regarding
/var/backups/infodir.bak , but it build correctly on a lenny chroot on
amd64.

How did you try this?

I'm unable to reproduce this problem in the sid dchroot on zelenka. Maybe
I should ask for a give-back on s390 to see if the build problem
mysteriously goes away again?

Since some time a subset of python-xml is included in the
standard python library, while the python-xml package did not see
any updates for years. It is time to drop it from the distribution.
Update scenarios:

 - Just drop the (build) dependency, if the functionality is included
   in python. (Build)-depend on python (>= 2.4).

 - Copy missing code in the std library from the python-xml package.
(e.g. for some installer packages: localechoose).

 - Use another xml library (python-4suite-xml, python-lxml).

Please contact the ML pkg-zope-develop...@lists.alioth.debian.org
for further questions and help. Patches for some packages may be
available as a diff of an Ubuntu package at
http://packages.qa.debian.org/gdeskcal

It is likely that the severity of this report is raised before the

Since some time a subset of python-xml is included in the
standard python library, while the python-xml package did not see
any updates for years. It is time to drop it from the distribution.
Update scenarios:

 - Just drop the (build) dependency, if the functionality is included
   in python. (Build)-depend on python (>= 2.4).

Patches for some packages may be
available as a diff of an Ubuntu package at
http://packages.qa.debian.org/mmpython

It is likely that the severity of this report is raised before the
release.

The mmpython package has been removed from Debian testing, unstable and
experimental, so I am now closing the bugs that were still opened
against it.

For more information about this package's removal, read
http://bugs.debian.org/547585. That bug might give the reasons why
this package was removed, and suggestions of possible replacements.

Don't hesitate to reply to this mail if you have any question.

Thank you for your contribution to Debian.

This package builds with a non standard compiler version; please check
if this package can be built with the default version of gcc/g++.

Please keep this report open until the package uses the default
compiler version for the package build.

The libstdc*-dev build dependency should just be dropped.

Bug#546836: any information yet?

2009-09-22 Thread Wendy Elmer
I pointed my deb-src to lenny to get the old xserver-xorg-video-mga.
Then I did:
apt-get -b source xserver-xorg-video-mga
and
dpkg -i xserver-xorg-video-mga_1.4.9.dfsg-1_i386.deb
to install what was built. If that is what you mean by build against
the 1.6 server, then it
didn't change anything. It still didn't work.
If I have to do something different, let me know.

Bug#547976: source-highlight: ships /usr/share/info/dir.gz

-rw-r--r-- root/root 420 2009-09-21 21:36 ./usr/share/info/dir.gz

The dir.gz file should not be there. This is very bad because (among
other things) as soon as there are two packages with this bug, they
can't be installed simultaneously, so we might better not to have any
of them in testing, hence the serious severity.

The following patch might work, please double check. You could also
remove the "if" block entirely.

An upgrade to 0.94.3-25 deletes the link in /etc/rcS.d/??netenv. I had to
dpkg-reconfigure netenv. This works as expected because the netenv link wasn't
found by uodate-rc running from postinst then.

An upgrade to 0.94.3-25 deletes the link in /etc/rcS.d/??netenv. I had to
dpkg-reconfigure netenv. This works as expected because the netenv link wasn't
found by uodate-rc running from postinst then.

I misread where the fix was. This commit to mpd is where the fix
resides, apparently.

Full patch for cve-2009-3235 for cyrus-imap-2.2. One hunk of bc_eval.c
doesn't apply to the older version (no BC_BODY handling).

I will commit it to the trunk in a few minutes.

Indeed. I am not sure how old this bug is, it might well go going
further back than 2.2.12, but that won't matter to Debian.

So just *don't enable* dynamic playlists in the meantime. The bug is tracked
upstream at https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20 and is a 2.2 release
blocker. You will have to wait a week and a few days to get resolution (in 2.2
final).

SVN trunk ready for release. Unfortunately, I don't have a clean system at
hand to do the build and upload (nor am I used to svn-buildpackage, so it
would take a while to do it anyway).

Can someone else please tag, build and upload?

Also, we need the same fix to be applied to stable and old-stable...

Clint Adams wrote:

CA> And now?

Right now (svn r842), the 2.3.x branch at

https://mail.incase.de/svn/cyrus22/branches/cyrus23/cyrus-imapd-2.3-development/

is 2.3.14 plus a dpatchified fix for CERT VU #336053, AKA
http://www.debian.org/security/2009/dsa-1881

Sven has kindly merged his recent packaging improvements from the 2.2
branch.

As soon as time permits, the development branch will get bumped to the
2.3.15 release with additional security patches, or 2.3.16 if upstream
increment their version number again before then.

The closely-related Sirius customer packages (which are an identical
code base plus with some functionality patches like UoA auto-*) are in
production on Lenny/amd64 with our in-house backport of BDB 4.7. We're
now building with BDB 4.7 from backports.org, which potentially means a
lenny-backports branch for Debian mainline as well as Sid and Squeeze.

Cheers

I've packaged (and am about to upload) libvorbisidec (tremor) based on
upstream's svn revision 16259 (this covers the most recent changeset
from http://svn.xiph.org/trunk/Tremor)

However, the new package doesn't seem to resolve the FTBFS for mpd
15.3-1 on armel.

Indeed, there is no instance of OV_CALLBACKS_STREAMONLY in the tremor
source that i can tell.

So i'm probably misunderstanding something in the exchange above. Joey,
can you point more specifically to the fix from vorbis upstream that
you're talking about?

sorry to be slow on the uptake here,

Package: debootstrap
Version: 1.0.16
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

debootstrap is called as part of lh_build (from live-helper), but when
Unpacking the base
system is started, it stops. Last lines:
I: Configuring sysvinit...
I: Unpacking the base system...
P: Begin unmounting filesystems...

When looking at the debootstrap.log file I see these last lines:
sysvinit: creating /dev/initctl
init: timeout opening/writing control channel /dev/initctl
/usr/share/debootstrap/functions: line 1065: sudo: command not found

So it failes because it calls on sudo, but that was not downloaded before.

It looks like it fails on line 171 of /usr/share/debootstrap/scripts/sid
setup_available $required $base

And that seems to be added as part of the fix for #487908 (pre-dependencies)

If you can't upgrade your kernel to 2.6.31 with the required fix, you
should downgrade the intel driver to 2.7.1 and use EXA instead of UXA
(Option "AccelMethod" "EXA" in section Driver of xorg.conf). An old
package is available at
http://people.debian.org/~bgoglin/rebuilds/Xserver1.6/intel-2.7.1/

I don't see a case where a package needs a absolute symlink. If there
is no use case, it'd be easy to just stop such packages in dak from
entering the archive.

This is is a different vulnerability than CVE-2009-2632, there are a few
additional buffer overflows not yet covered, see the patches.

Bug#547956: libgoogle-perftools0 library package includes command line utility

2009-09-22 Thread Robert Edmonds
Package: libgoogle-perftools0
Version: 1.4-1
Severity: serious

libgoogle-perftools0 contains the command line profiling utility,
/usr/bin/google-pprof:

$ dpkg-deb -c libgoogle-perftools0_1.4-1_amd64.deb | grep usr/bin/
drwxr-xr-x root/root 0 2009-09-18 11:25 ./usr/bin/
-rwxr-xr-x root/root128341 2009-09-18 11:25 ./usr/bin/google-pprof
$

per debian policy 8.2, this is not allowed:

8.2 Shared library support files

If your package contains files whose names do not change with each
change in the library shared object version, you must not put them
in the shared library package. Otherwise, several versions of the
shared library cannot be installed at the same time without filename
clashes, making upgrades and transitions unnecessarily difficult.

We could add a 2nd parameter to the postinst call so we can distinguish
between normal postinst run and called by upgrade-from-grub-legacy. And
then we check in that case if at least one device has been given and in
that case we return a special error code (maybe or something like
that) and print a notice in upgrade-from-grub-legacy then.

or we could make that a debconf template so it can get translated.

Robert what do you think?

Bug#547949: functions: line 1065: sudo: command not found

2009-09-22 Thread Diederik de Haas

Package: debootstrap
Version: 1.0.16
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

debootstrap is called as part of lh_build (from live-helper), but when
Unpacking the base
system is started, it stops. Last lines:
I: Configuring sysvinit...
I: Unpacking the base system...
P: Begin unmounting filesystems...

When looking at the debootstrap.log file I see these last lines:
sysvinit: creating /dev/initctl
init: timeout opening/writing control channel /dev/initctl
/usr/share/debootstrap/functions: line 1065: sudo: command not found

So it failes because it calls on sudo, but that was not downloaded before.

It looks like it fails on line 171 of /usr/share/debootstrap/scripts/sid
setup_available $required $base

And that seems to be added as part of the fix for #487908 (pre-dependencies)

Bug#547946: [amarok] Crashes on each startup with random playlist

2009-09-22 Thread Resul Cetin
Package: amarok
Version: 2.2~rc1-1
Severity: serious

I upgraded from 2.1something to 2.2~rc1-1 and now it crashes right after the
start. It does a scan of the files and then crashes right away. When I try
again it just crashes.
Removing every config and and database file (so everything with amarok inside
the name) it will scan again everything and then crash when I enable random
playlist and then click on repopulate. The crash will happen on every start
(when it tries to repopulate the list - sometimes I needed to start the play
of the track or pressing repopulate to start repopulation of it), but will
not scan everything again.

Bug#547944: grub-pc: upgrade-from-grub-legacy option to install in a given hard disk is tricky

2009-09-22 Thread Stefano
Package: grub-pc
Version: 1.97~beta3-1
Justification: renders package unusable
Severity: grave

*** Please type your report below this line ***

Hi,

when running upgrade-from-grub-legacy an option is given about where to
install GRUB2. However, if one hits enter without checking such option
the process end without errors but GRUB2 is not installed and when the
system is rebooted GRUB Legacy starts and "Error 15" (file not found) is
given.
The system is then unbootable and a liveCD must be used to fix the
problem: boot in the pc, mount partition(s), chroot, reinstall
grub-legacy (remove grub and grub-pc), reboot.

The tricky question is the following (I only have one hard disk):

_
Configuring grub-pc
GRUB install devices:
[ ] /dev/hda

_

If one hits "Enter" without checking the "[ ] /dev/hda" option the
installation seems to be OK, but in fact the system will not boot.

I suggest that the option should be either already checked or the
button should be "unclickable" unless the option is checked.

I classified de bug as "grave" because many users could not know what to
do to fix this issue.

Cheers,

Stefano

Bug#547945: screem: Should this package be removed?

2009-09-22 Thread Barry deFreese

Package: screem
Version: 0.16.1-4.2
Severity: serious
User: debian...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: proposed-removal

Dear Maintainer,

While reviewing some packages, your package came up as a possible
candidate for removal from Debian, because:

* Possibly inactive maintainer.
* Upstream appears inactive.
* Buggy.
* Build-Depends on libgnomeprint* which is scheduled for removal.
* Build-Depends on gtksourceview-dev which is scheduled for removal.

If you think that it should be orphaned instead of being removed from
Debian, please reply to this bug and tell so.

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please
just close this bug and do an upload also fixing the other issues.

If you agree that it should be removed, send the following commands to
cont...@bugs.debian.org (replace nn with this bug's number):

severity nn normal
reassign nn ftp.debian.org
retitle nn RM:  -- RoM;
thanks

For more information, see
http://wiki.debian.org/ftpmaster_Removals
http://ftp-master.debian.org/removals.txt

I have tagged this as serious for now because of the pending removals of
build-depends which will render this package unbuildable.

Thank you,

Barry deFreese

Bug#547937: Loading of i915 with modeset=0 does not help

2009-09-22 Thread wzabo...@elektron.elka.pw.edu.pl
I've found that some problems related to xserver-xorg-video-intel may be
cured by adding "modeset=0" when loading i915 module.
I've tried that, but it didn't cure the problem.
X windows crashed again a few minutes ago :-(.

Now at the end of the Xorg.0.log file I've found the following information:

Bug#547943: libvigraimpex: files needed to rebuild documentation are missing

2009-09-22 Thread Jakub Wilk

Package: libvigraimpex
Version: 1.6.0-1
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.2.1

Files that are required to rebuild documentation are missing from the
upstream tarball. (However, they *are* present in the upstream VCS.)

This may be considered as a violation of DFSG#2.

I have done no research at all. But it's easily reproducible.

Have you actually tried to build it in a clean, up-to-date chroot?

Thanks Niko. I've been sitting on the libpoe-perl package for awhile
because I wasn't sure how to deal with the split (it went from a
monolithic package to having loops in separate packages). I am working
on getting those uploaded, at which point the new libpoe-perl will be
available, and the new libpoex-types-perl can be uploaded.

Bug#533993: Does this bug exist?

2009-09-22 Thread Tom Cato Amundsen
Testing on a debian lenny virtualbox, it seems that
xmllint --postvalid --dtdvalid
http://www.oasis-open.org/docbook/xml/4.4/docbookx.dtd --xinclude
--noout help/C/solfege.xml
will not access the net. The url only names the dtd, and the dtd
itself is found on the local filesystem.
If I change the dtd version to any other version in
/usr/share/sgml/docbook/dtd/xml, not net will be used,
but if I try another version number, xmllint will try to use the net.

But I can remove the xmllint call completely from the next upload if
you think it is necessary. I have a 3.14.7 (or soon .8) release that
should be uploaded.

Hi Jelmer,

yeah, sorry. I was just notified about this on #debian-devel.

I guess the problem was, that bzrtools wanted to pull the 2.0~rc1 version and I
got confused a bit.

So I'm fine if this bug is closed again.

On the other hand, Roland Mas mentioned that bzr 2.0 will probably uploaded to
sid soonish, so this issue might become relevant again.

Whatever you prefer.

Cheers,
Michael

This doesn't seem right - the current version in unstable is 1.18-1.
2.0~rc1 is only in experimental.

Eek. Yes, right. I'll attach a corrected patch one I rebuild

Where exactly are you able to left click and have a “panel-settings”
stuff? The only thing related would be to right click on the panel and
then click on “Customize Panel”. Is that what you mean?

Could you be a little more specific about “everything else dies”?

What autostarts? The panel or the panel-settings? You can clean your
session from outside of Xfce by removing .cache/session (make a backup
if you want) to restart.

That's the first time anyone reports of such a thing so needless to say
it doesn't seem reproducible here. Could you be a little more specific
about your config, how you install etc.

If you could try, before using that “panel-settings” stuff we don't know
about, to shut-down the xfce4-panel (using xfce4-panel -x from a
terminal) and re-run it from a terminal, and report if there's something
displayed when “the whole system freezes”.

Thanks,

Bug#539215: grave or important ?

2009-09-22 Thread Helge Deller
Hmm...
I just marked this bug "grave", but I'm not sure if it should be "important"
instead. Please advise...

Fact is, that the hppa 2.6.26-2 kernel, as it's currently available, has a
major bug, which can easily hang and DOS the full machine under various loads.
I can reproduce this bug with my testcases. Given the fact that some people
consider the hppa port (and the debian build servers) not very stable, I think
it's important to fix this issue as soon as possible.

Justification: renders package unusable

To make sure netenv's initscript is started before networking (from
package netbase) it is possible to change it like chown in the
attached patch. Other wise it makes no sense to choose network
environment. After patching the initscript insserv must be invoked
(which should postinstall as well).

Bug#518735: ace: FTBFS: autotools error

Thanks for the patch!, ... but unfortunately it is not enough (hence I'm
temporarily untagging this bug with "patch").

First of all the patch should be placed in the sequence before 50,
otherwise it will arrive too late. Placing it at 49 works fine.

Then, even with this patch, build fails with a different error, reported
below:

  configure.ac:177: the top level
  libtoolize: AC_CONFIG_MACRO_DIR([../m4]) conflicts with ACLOCAL_AMFLAGS=-I m4.
autoreconf: libtoolize failed with exit status: 1
  make: *** [autotools-stamp] Error 1

Cheers.

Bug#547880: libddm-1-0: depends on obsolete Mission Control 4, libempathy23

2009-09-22 Thread Simon McVittie
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

Package: libddm-1-0
Version: 1.2.5-2
Severity: serious
Justification: uninstallable in unstable (now or soon, depending on arch)

libddm seems to depend on libmissioncontrol-client, and on a version of
libempathy that will no longer be available in unstable when the buildds
catch up (currently only i386 has the new version).

We also plan to remove Mission Control 4 (which provides
libmissioncontrol-client) from the archive soon. Mission Control 5 does not
provide a C library (but Empathy can interact with it directly).

Since this package appears to have been abandoned upstream, and has no reverse
dependencies and a popcon score of 1 (!), removing it from Debian would be
an easy way to solve this (less code = fewer bugs :-) If the maintainers agree
with this course of action, I'll reassign this bug to ftp.debian.org to
remove it.

Other possibilities would be to port engine-dbus/hippo-dbus-empathy.c to
work with a newer libempathy (we can help), or to turn off Empathy support in
libddm. Normally the pkg-telepathy team would consider removing Telepathy
support to be a last resort, but since libddm seems to be dead upstream and
nobody actually seems to use it, this doesn't seem like it would actually hurt
anyone...

Regards,
Simon

I propose to "fix" this bug by removing MC 4 from the archive once the new
Empathy 2.28 has entered testing. There is one reverse dependency, libddm-1-0
, against which
I have filed a serious bug (Empathy 2.28 makes it uninstallable anyway).
