Bug#551475: extcalc: Segmentation fault on startup

2009-10-20 Thread Varun Hiremath
Hi Jude,

After recent safe-upgrade, extcalc stopped working. Running from the command
line displays a Segmentation fault error and nothing else. The man page
doesn't include any switches, but I tried -vvv anyway, with no change.

Sorry, I can't seem to reproduce this on my system; extcalc works
fine. Could you try to reproduce this again, may be also on some other
system?

Thanks,
Varun

Bug#551507: [Pkg-fonts-devel] Bug#551507: ttf-dzongkha: Hints point to Jomolhari.ttf, not Jomolhari-alpha3c-0605331.ttf

2009-10-20 Thread Christian Perrier
Quoting Jakob Bohm (yawwuddeiboyoam...@jbohm.dk):

/etc/defoma/hints/ttf-dzongka.hints tells the rest of Debian to
look for the installed font in the file Jomolhari.ttf, but it is
actually installed in a file named Jomolhari-alpha3c-0605331.ttf .

Thanks for the pointer. It will be the opportunity for me to upload a
new package (I actually didn't update that package for squeeze as of
now) with new fancy things such as moving to debhelper 7, etc.

Also checking whether there is a new upstream version will be a good
idea, indeed.

CC'ing Chris (to know whether he released a new version of the
Jomolhari font).

Bug#540690: libnss-db/alpha: Uninstallable due to dependency on libc6

On 2009-08-09 19:27 +0200, Adam D. Barratt wrote:

 Package: libnss-db

 Hi,

libnss-db is currently uninstallable on alpha. The dependency line
 reads:

 Depends: make, libc6 ( 2.10), libc6.1 ( 2.9), libc6.1 ( 2.10),
 libdb4.6, libselinux1 (= 2.0.82)

and there is no libc6 on alpha.

It seems that this happened due to a broken symbols file shipped in the
libc6.1 package. The Debian changelog for eglibc 2.10-1 suggests that
this bug has been fixed:

,
| eglibc (2.10.1-1) unstable; urgency=low
|
| [ Aurelien Jarno ]
| [...]
| * Fix package name in alpha/ia64 private symbols versioning.
`

So a binNMU against eglibc 2.10-1 should be sufficient; this is actually
necessary on all architectures to make libnss-db installable again.

no that would be true if it would break a huge number of boxes.

After upgrading to initramfs-tools 0.93.4 (among other) the system wouldn't
boot. With linux-image-2.6.30-1-powerpc the system refued the encrypted
harddrive password (for dmsetup; using encrypted lvm) complaining that dm_mod
couldn't be loaded. linux-image-2.6.30-2-powerpc simply stopped before asking
 for the password.

 Replacing initrd.img-2.6.30-2-powerpc with initrd.img-2.6.30-2-powerpc.bak
 made the system boot again.

 Attached the output of:

 bash -x mkinitramfs -o /dev/null

can you try booting with rootdelay param,
also most probable this is a cryptsetup bug and not initramfs-tools

As a quick note, I'd recommend also taking advantage of the update to
double-check and adjust the metadata as shown on our current review:
http://pkg-fonts.alioth.debian.org/review/fnt-75f85d518458d8846ffd35cbc1e16adc.html

Looks like Description, Designer URL and License Description need to be
adjusted to reflect the intent of the upstream.

And is the font still in alpha? IMHO the version number should reflect
the status.

There are also specimens on the upstream site which might usefully be
included in the package.

Cheers,

Bug#551742: rt-extension-emailcompletion: Install location not picked up by RT

2009-10-20 Thread Dominic Hargreaves
Package: rt-extension-emailcompletion
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Brown paper bag time:

a) I've packaged this with the wrong name in the install directory
(RT-Extension-EmailCompletion rather than RTx-EmailCompletion) and

b) RT doesn't actually look in /usr/share/request-tracker3.8/plugins
(only /usr/local/share/request-tracker3.8/plugins, which is no good for
us) so I will have to either patch RT to look here, or change this package
to install directly into /usr/share/request-tracker3.8/{lib,html} which
is obviously not as desirable.

Until then, this package isn't usable. Apologies.

Subject: Bug#536304: twinkle: Twinkle stops responding once a voice stream is
established
Date: Thursday 09 July 2009
From: Chris Davies ch...@roaima.co.uk
To: Debian Bug Tracking System sub...@bugs.debian.org

Package: twinkle
Version: 1:1.4.2-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Previous versions of Twinkle worked fine. This version (1:1.4.2-2) becomes
totally unresponsive to user input as soon as a voice channel is established.
This includes keyboard and mouse operations.

I have confirmed this with a connection to sipgate.co.uk, using the
connection-test and voicemail numbers (1 and 5, respectively). Presence
of the voice channel suggests that the application has not locked up entirely.

Bug#551745: sysv-rc (priority: required) now depends on insserv

2009-10-20 Thread Samuel Thibault
Package: insserv
Version: 1.12.0-14
Severity: serious
Justification: Debian Policy 2.5.

The sysv-rc package now depends on insserv, but insserv is
Priority: optional, and the Debian Policy says Packages must not
depend on packages with lower priority values (excluding build-time
dependencies). In order to ensure this, the priorities of one or
more packages may need to be adjusted.

I guess since we want to move to insserv for squeeze we can just bump
the priority of insserv?

I'm raising this issue because it breaks crosshurd.

Samuel

The dir.gz file should not be there. This is very bad because (among
other things) as soon as there are two packages with this bug, they
can't be installed simultaneously, so we might better not to have any
of them in testing, hence the serious severity.

The following patch might work, please double check. You could also
remove the if block entirely.

Bug#551745: sysv-rc (priority: required) now depends on insserv

2009-10-20 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
[Samuel Thibault]
I'm raising this issue because it breaks crosshurd.

How is crosshurd broken?

I agree that the priority of insserv should be raised.

It migth be a good idea to lower the priority of sysvinit and sysv-rc,
to make it easier to install chroots without the boot system, but I
suspect it is better to discuss that in another BTS report.

Happy hacking,

Hm, seems I haven't looked at that bug yet, and again it seems to be
one of these heisenbugs; i.e. it builds fine in an i386 and a amd64
 cowbuilder sid chroot.

Tests out of sequence combined with the forking and sleeping in the
test and the dynamic numbering for the test cases (!) might lead to
 some timing/load issues.

From looking at the code and adding a bit of debug output, the child
process starts, sleeps until awakened by the parent, runs test (1),
sleeps, gets awakened by the parent -- which has a waitpid($pid, 0)
at that point, runs tests (2) and (3), then the parent should run
 tests (4) and (5).

Maybe that helps some better Perl coder to find out why the sequence
 gets twisted :)

Actually, the worst part is that the build sometimes simply blocks.

But I agree that it's very likely to be a load issue.

Package: crm114
Version: 20090423-1
Severity: critical
Justification: causes serious data loss

Changes (again...) in .css files just made me lose about one full day of
mail...

All non whitelisted mails were apparently just trashed after the line, in my
.procmailrc, where they're piped to crm114.

Oh, I certainly got warned by mail as there is a NEWS.Debian entry about
this...and I ust apt-listchanges. Unfortunately, that mail got trashed
just like others.

I find such change inacceptable for release and I already imagine what wll
happen to people who upgrade their mail servers from lenny to squeeze.

Actually, even the advice of recreating .css files is another way to lose
data.

I'm really very seriously considering if I should keep on using crm114 if
such changes happen and, at this very moment, I don't think this software
verson is suitable for release in Debian.

Bug#551753: kills processes from thin client sessions which it shouldnt kill

2009-10-20 Thread Holger Levsen
package: killer
severity: serious
version: 0.90-6
# justification: causes data loss, makes unrelated software break

Hi,

the purpose of killer is to kill processes belonging to a user who is not
logged in anymore of whose processes are hanging. According to Skolelinux bug
#1373 it also kills processes which it shouldnt kill.

See http://bugs.skolelinux.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1373#c5 for a first analysis
how this happens. 200909211517.54070@gmx.de (on the debian-edu list)
also contains useful information for tracking this down. The complete thread
started at 200909182345.55873@gmx.de

It seems like neither python-numeric nor python-numpy dependencies are
needed here. I looked through the code and find nowhere that it is
importing from either package.

When I built the package without the dependencies, the game still seemed
functional.

Are any of the maintainers of this package looking into this bug?

We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following
package(s) have been removed from unstable:

mayavi | 1.5-5 | source, all

Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag
database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite
references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references
it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the
master archive (ftp-master.debian.org) and will not propagate to any
mirrors (ftp.debian.org included) until the next cron.daily run at the
earliest.

Packages are usually not removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks
unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed
from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency
problems. The release team can force a removal from testing if it is
really needed, please contact them if this should be the case.

Bugs which have been reported against this package are not automatically
removed from the Bug Tracking System. Please check all open bugs and
close them or re-assign them to another package if the removed package
was superseded by another one.

Hi,

after installation of python-mapnik I tried to generate images, but I
got segmentation faults.

After some debugging (thanks, Steve) we found that the culprit is that
Pycairo_CAPI is null. This should be set by Pycairo_IMPORT. Howver,
looking at the code of PyCObject_Import this function returns null if
the requested python library is not there.

So, there are two possibilities to resolve this issue:

1. Add an dependency to python-cairo to the package.

2. Add an error message to the initalization function in case the
function returns null.

I think best both should be done.

Cheers,
Andi

Could you revert to the older mdadm until you tackle the problem.

Tommorrow I will boot with a live CD, chroot and revert to the olde

It would be kind if man page translators get a notice pre upload such

According to my testing this also closes #550483 (debconf builds fine
now in my sid i386 chroot)? Any reason this bug should be left open?

Bug#551775: bitlbee: Uninstallable package due to conflict with libc6

2009-10-20 Thread Alok G. Singh
It appears that this problem arises due to bitlbee being built with an
older version of libc6. Specifically, the
/var/lib/dpkg/info/libc6.symbols file is where dpkg-shlibdeps gets the
conflict for the latest libc6.

Bug#551784: neverball: incomplete build from source

Package: neverball
Justification: renders package unusable
Severity: grave

Hi,

this package is currently not installable in sid:

# apt-get install neverball
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
neverball: Depends: neverball-data (= 1.5.2-1) but 1.5.4-1 is to be
installed
E: Broken packages

And indeed it is out of date on the i386 architecture (and many others):

  http://packages.debian.org/sid/neverball

I tried to build binary packages from source. It works, but only
partially. The following packages are generated:

neverball-common_1.5.4-1_all.deb
neverball-data_1.5.4-1_all.deb
neverputt-data_1.5.4-1_all.deb

but not the neverball package.

Bug#551790: When printer connected; whole system freezes

2009-10-20 Thread Adnan Hodzic
Package: hplip
Version: 3.9.8-1
Justification: breaks the whole system
Severity: critical

Today I installed hplip hplip-data hplip-gui hp-ppd and my HP Deskjet
F4280 was automaticaly reconized and configured.

Problem: As soon as I connect USB cable to te USB port whole system
freezes, not just X but whole system and the only way
to resolve this problem is by hard restarting it.

Workaround would be to connect the USB cable while notebook is off and
then power it on, system won't freeze and printing
will work just fine.

Bug#551795: e2fsprogs: /sbin/fsck lost on partial upgrades

2009-10-20 Thread Sven Joachim
Package: e2fsprogs
Version: 1.41.9-1
Severity: serious

Recently, the /sbin/fsck binary has moved from e2fsprogs to util-linux.
While this is certainly correct in itself, e2fsprogs needs to
(pre-)depend on a version of util-linux that contains the fsck program,
otherwise it might get lost on partial upgrades breaking the system.

Looking at the util-linux changelog, 2.15~rc1-1 appears to be the first
version to ship /sbin/fsck.

on it since it doesn't seem to use it at all (despite configure.in
checking for it).

Bug#531991: vino-server is running even if no access is allowed/enabled

2009-10-20 Thread Sam Morris
tag 531991 + moreinfo
severity 531991 normal
thanks

I can now reproduce my problem semi-reliably and it's not a security
issue. vino-server is locking up when disabled via the preferences
window, so connecting to the socket that lingers around never results in
an actual VNC connection, only an endless hang. I'll report this issue
upstream.

Ulrich, are you still seeing your bug on an up-to-date system? It sounds
similar to http://bugs.debian.org/518862.

Date: Thursday 09 July 2009
From: Chris Davies ch...@roaima.co.uk

Thanks for the reminder. I would suggest this gets closed off as
resolved as part of miscellaneous library upgrade. Not very helpful, I
appreciate, but the best I can offer is this additional description:

It turns out the application continued handling the voice stream until
the call was *terminated*. At this point no further operations either
via the GUI or the command line interface were accepted. I had to kill
the process with SIGKILL (unfortunately SIGTERM and SIGHUP weren't
sufficient - they took out the GUI but not the underlying process).

Once locked up, strace showed the application in a busy spin loop -
possibly part of the KDE event loop, I don't know.

After a library upgrade the problem disappeared and I've not been able
to reproduce it further.

Cheers,
Chris

Quoting Nicolas Spalinger (nicolas_spalin...@sil.org):

As a quick note, I'd recommend also taking advantage of the update to
double-check and adjust the metadata as shown on our current review:
 http://pkg-fonts.alioth.debian.org/review/fnt-75f85d518458d8846ffd35cbc1e16adc.html

Looks like Description, Designer URL and License Description need to be
adjusted to reflect the intent of the upstream.

And is the font still in alpha? IMHO the version number should reflect
 the status.

There are also specimens on the upstream site which might usefully be
 included in the package.

I agree. However, I think all this belongs to Chris, in a possible new
version (that, indeed, could be numbered 1.0).

Bug#551775: bitlbee: Uninstallable package due to conflict with libc6

Note that I did not add that dependency myself. I have absolutely no

If you or anyone else who reads this has any clue about this, I'd love

Bug#551821: [nfs-common] directory not mounted at boot-time

2009-10-20 Thread Marco Righi
Package: nfs-common
Version: 1:1.2.0-4
Severity: grave

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Hi,
I have some lines in fstab as the following one (the server is the same,
the pointed directory are different)

gaia:/media/data/user/home /home nfs rw,auto,hard 0 0

for each line at boot-time I see the following error:
mount.nfs: DNS resolution failed for gaia: name or service not found

I tried to substitute the lines with the following one (10.10.200.6 is
the address of gaia)
10.10.200.6:/media/data/user/home /home nfs rw,auto,hard 0 0

and for each line at boot-time I see the following error:
mount.nfs: DNS resolution failed for 10.10.200.6: name or service not found

I have added a mount -a as S99mymount in rc2.d and all the directories
are mounted, this is only an ugly patch!

Some time ago (perhaps before my July apt-get upgrade) I had not
problems with the mount nfs directory.

I searched withous success the error in log-file with the command

Bug#545751: [debian-mysql] Bug#545751

2009-10-20 Thread Marcin Trybus
I'd like to confirm that this also happens with a clean install of pure squeeze
(only iceweasel taken from experimental). I tried both mysql-server from
squeeze (5.1.37-2) and sid (5.1.39-1).

I have no knowledge on how this all works, I only need it as a kmail dependency
(which is quite silly BTW). I didn't sent an upstream bug. Since it's a syntax
error the bug is most likely linked to the package itself.

Bug#551831: cupt: Incorrectly upgrades libc6, breaking the system

2009-10-20 Thread James Vega
Package: cupt
Version: 1.0.0
Severity: critical

Running cupt -R --purge safe-upgrade today, ended up breaking the
system because of an incorrect upgrade order. Partway through the
process, dpkg segfaulted and most other tools also segfaulted due to
mis-matching libc package versions. Running apt-get upgrade worked
fine after I rebooted to a rescue cd and downgraded the libc packages to
2.9-27.

Here's the information I have from another computer that I can deal with
being broken for a few days (hand-typed so apologies for typos and
truncation of non-libc6 information).

The upgrade was from 2.9-27 to 2.10.1-1. The 5 binary packages from the
eglibc source package that were being considered for upgrade were:
libc-bin, libc-dev-bin, libc6-dev, libc6-i686, and libc6.

$ cupt -R --purge safe-upgrade

Bug#543375: Info received (Bug not solved)

2009-10-20 Thread Gabriele Giacone

Ok, solved. My boot/shutdown sequences were wrong.

I reinstalled every package that owns a script under /etc/init.d.
Not a simple reinstall. Before each reinstall, I did a update-rc.d -f
script remove because, correct me if I'm wrong, if rcN links already
exist, installation won't correct them, unless specified in
preinst/postinst scripts.
Now, in util-linux.postinst, for hwclock.sh and hwclockfirst.sh, there's
a -f remove before start and it's ok.
Reinstalling initscripts and many other packages, doing this cleanup,
sequence numbers have significantly changed.

Under /etc/rc6.d,
before after
S01sendsigsS20sendsigs
S01umountnfs.shS31umountnfs.sh
S01umountfsS40umountfs
S01umountrootS60umountroot
S01rebootS90reboot
After fixing the scripts above, system booted fine. Then I fixed all the
remaining.
When is the last time the superblock is written? Isn't it when
filesystem is umounted/mounted read-only on shutdown?

Could it be UTC time when it's umounted?

G.

Bug#551775: bitlbee: Uninstallable package due to conflict with libc6

2009-10-20 Thread Alok G. Singh

Rebuilding the package on a buildhost with the latest libc6 (2.10.1-1)
installed creates a package that does not conflict libc6. No changes are
required except the rebuild.

Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

With the new version of udev this morning, /lib/udev/vol_id was removed
and /usr/share/usbmount/usbmount was broken.
The new tool is /sbin/blkid but its output is different from the output
of /lib/udev/vol_id.

Bug#534033: Bug #534033: traverso: FTBFS: CMake errors

2009-10-20 Thread Daniel Moerner
Hi,

CMake 2.6.4 now strictly enforces that build directories must be unique.
The fix for this is relatively trivial.

I have attached a proposed NMU for this package.

Regards,
Daniel Moerner
