Hmm no this indeed will not work. I reverted my proposed patch in
SVN. I'm in contact with Jesse, the upstream maintainer, let's see if
he has some idea how this can be solved.

I don't care strongly -- but that seems like a good place to me.

Package: hdfview
Version: 2.5-5
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hdfview should depend on java-wrappers, since /usr/bin/hdfview uses
/usr/lib/java-wrappers/java-wrappers.sh from the java-wrappers package.
Sample execution of hdfview:

$ hdfview
..: 7: Can't open /usr/lib/java-wrappers/java-wrappers.sh
$ echo $?
2

Hdfview is thus unusable unless java-wrappers is also installed.

PS. Is it maybe an exaggeration to mark this bug as grave? :|

Bug#553922: "cryptsetup: lvm is not available" lock up at boot

2009-11-02 Thread Stefano Zacchiroli
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.31-1
Severity: serious

Hi kernel maintainer,
starting with kernel 2.6.30-2, my boot process lock up with the
message "cryptsetup: lvm is not available", just after having asked the
LUKS passphrase. Currently, I can reproduce it with 2.6.30-2 and
2.6.31-1. It still works fine with 2.6.30-1.

It seems that LVM is not initialized and/or initialized differently
starting with 2.6.30-2.

It might be a problem of some missing configuration on my side, but
given that it was working up to 2.6.30-1 I would have expected at least
a NEWS.Debian entry telling me what to do. This is the main reason for
me reporting this bug as RC: is it possible to provide some smooth
upgrade experience?

My current lvm/crypt setup is as deployed by an out of the box d-i
installation a while ago, in the Lenny release timeframe.

I'm attaching: /etc/crypttab, /etc/fstab, /etc/lvm/lvm.conf,
/boot/grub/grub.cfg . Let me know if I can provide anything else useful.

Many thanks in advance and for your kernel maintenance work!
Cheers.

What the f*** is going on???

That is a svn server which I access via the

The keyring daemon serves as a SSH agent by default. See README.Debian
for how to disable it.

Package: gdcm
Version: 2.0.13-1
Severity: normal

Hi Mathieu,

libgdcm2-dev contains following files:

   245768 2009-10-28 19:12 /usr/lib/libgdcmcharls.so
   938280 2009-10-28 19:12 /usr/lib/libgdcmDICT.so

But it might be better to use symbolic links to
   /usr/lib/libgdcmcharls.so.2.0
   /usr/lib/libgdcmDICT.so.2.0
and from there to
   /usr/lib/libgdcmcharls.so.2.0.13
   /usr/lib/libgdcmDICT.so.2.0.13

The current situation can cause some linker problems:
   $ ldd /usr/lib/libITKIO.so
linux-gate.so.1 =>  (0xb7fc2000)
[...]
libgdcmDICT.so.2.0 => not found
libgdcmIOD.so.2.0 => /usr/lib/libgdcmIOD.so.2.0 (0xb7b45000)

Cheers
Dominique

Bug#546015: NMU warning

package libgpgme-dev

thanks

Please note that the dir.gz is showing up in the archive in the
kfreebsd-amd64 package of libgpgme11-dev, which causes programs
build-depending on libgpgme11-dev to fail to build there.

If you do not NACK within a week, I plan to NMU with the attached
diff, fixing this, the parellel-buildability and an updated symbols
file.

Thanks in advance,

Bug#553312: gnome-keyring breaks svn commit

2009-11-02 Thread Norbert Preining
reopen 553312

Dear Josselin,

please read my original posting, I quote the important line:

I know that well, but that is no reason that gnome-keyring has
*anything* to say in plain svn protocol authentication. Nothing, Zero,
Niente.

Again, to be sure that I state it clearly enough:
I do NOT use ssh+svn
!

Bug reopened.

Best wishes

Same here, with sid Python. I'm hence downgrading severity to
important, on the basis that it is related to the specific Python
version used by the reporter (possibly severity can be even less than
important ...).

Cheers.

An exact versioned build dependency would be ok if that's the only
version the package builds with. Needing source uploads to only update
the versioned build dependency are stupid and should be avoided.

Maybe it would be better to include the patches in the genuine toolchain
packages and have them built an avr version next to the normal version?

I tried it and got following failure.

/bin/bash ../../libtool --tag=CXX   --mode=link g++  -Wall -g -O2 -ffast-math
-fomit-frame-pointer -pipe -o avibench
benchmark.o ../../lib/libaviplay.la

reference to 'XOpenDisplay'
/usr/bin/ld: benchmark.o: in function main:benchmark.cpp:362: error: undefined
reference to 'XCloseDisplay'

This means that benchmark.cpp uses symbols from libX11.so, but doesn't
inform the linker that it wants to link to it. I would guess that
libaviplay.so currently links to it - which makes it work with the old
GNU linker.

I have added more information about that problem at

Whoops, sorry for misreading.

It must mean that SVN somehow queries gnome-keyring. I have no idea by
which mechanism, but using strace should point you at what it is doing.

Dear maintainer,

I've prepared an NMU for html-template (versioned as 0.16-2.1) and
uploaded it to DELAYED/2, according to devref §5.11.1. The patch ships a
handful of misc packaging fixes bringing adherence to policy "must"
violations, you can find it attached.

Cheers.

Bug#553135: sendmail-base: maintainer-script-calls-init-script-directly prerm:67 than using invoke-rc.d. The use of invoke-rc.d to invoke the /etc/init.d/* initscripts instead of calling them directly

2009-11-02 Thread Richard A Nelson

That would be this section:
sendmail-base.prerm:if [ -x /usr/etc/init.d/sendmail ]; then
sendmail-base.prerm:/usr/etc/init.d/sendmail clean;

Since every other call to /etc/init.d/sendmail is guarded by a test for
invoke-rc.d.

The invoke-rc.d manpage says:

INIT SCRIPT ACTIONS
The standard actions are: start, stop, force-stop, restart,
reload,
force-reload, and status. Other actions are accepted, but they can
cause prob‐
lems to policy-rc.d (see the INIT SCRIPT POLICY section), so warnings
are gener‐
ated if the policy layer is active.
...
If an action must be carried out regardless of any local policies,
use the
   --force switch.
...
   --force
Tries to run the init script regardless of policy and init script
subsys‐
tem errors. Use of this option in Debian maintainer scripts is
severely
  discouraged.

So, I'd have to use --force, or suffer the user with a warning due the fact that
I'm passing a non-standard action (clean).

The intent of all this was, that upon removal of sendmail base, it would not
destroy
anything in the queues, but would clean out stale, or erroneous files.

Sigh, I guess I'll just forgo the idea altogether

Right of course, sorry for bugging *you*, it is indeed a failure of
subversion. Subversion supports that feature now, but the password
I use is saved in the usual auth tokens, so it should have no need
to access the gnome keyring.

Reassigned.

For the subversion maintainers: I am using
svn://u...@server/repo
access method and the password for u...@server is saved under
~/.subverions/auth, so no need to contact the gnome-keyring-daemon
should arise.

THe problem turned up when I logged in with some alternative method
(fingerprint) and thus the gnome-keyring was not unlocked and thus
doinig an svn commit looked like:
$ svn commit -m"some commit msg"
Password for 'login' GNOME keyring:
svn: Commit failed (details follow):
svn: GNOME Keyring is locked and we are non-interactive
$
Which is *really* bad. The password is there, so why is it not used?

Thanks a lot and all the best

Best wishes

I think you're right -- I was trying to implement Martin's suggestion,
but it seems like (a) I don't have the libev-fu to hack it (b) it
would be hairy enough (touching the rxvt_term class, not just the
daemon) that our notoriously prickly upstream would never accept a
patch. I've removed the alternative for 9.06-2 (uploading).

It would still be nice to be able to put it back, I guess, so I'll
leave this open as wishlist if someone else wants to try.

I'm already looking at the gcj breakage so I'll have a look at this. Thanks.

Please add a lintian override to the package - this would
prevent other people from falling into the error of reporting this bug.

Hi,

During a rebuild of all packages in sid, your package failed to build on
amd64.

In eglibc <= 2.9, getline was only defined if _GNU_SOURCE was defined.
In eglibc 2.10, getline is always defined (since it became a standard in
POSIX2008). The problem is that your package already has a function
named getline(), which now conflicts with glibc's. You need to rename
your function to something else.
Ubuntu already fixed many occurences of your problem, so it is possible
that an Ubuntu patch is available for your package. Look at the PTS to
find out.

Because of some communication problems between postfix and
clamav-milter local socket, I've choosed to configure clamav-milter
with a network socket:
MilterSocket = "inet:7...@127.0.0.1"

The problem is that every execution of the init.d script will change
the owner of /root directory to 'clamav'. This patch fixes the
problem:

Hi,

python-edbus depends on libecore-svn-01 as well as libedbus-svn-01 on
non-i386 systems. Both packages are only available in version -02 so please
rebuild against these.

A rebuild on armel works without problems ...

Well, it might be true but the issue does not warrant serious severity.
kaddressbook is perfectly usable without distribution lists.

Because of some communication problems between postfix and
clamav-milter local socket, I've choosed to configure clamav-milter
with a network socket:
MilterSocket = "inet:7...@127.0.0.1"

The problem is that every execution of the init.d script will change
the owner of /root directory to 'clamav'. This patch fixes the
problem:

Absolute majority of users have akonadi working without problems. So this is
not a grave bug. There is a very high probability your system configuration is
screwed (or you are doing some chroot magic here without enough bind mounts)
hence normal severity. What is more, you have been asked for more information
and haven't responded in a month. Another few weeks of silence and the bug
will closed as invalid.

kdebindings 4:4.3.2-1 has been built against the lastest version of SIP.
However, this is a bug in python-sip4 packaging that it does not change
package name (or otherwise handle this) when breaking API/ABI. So finally we
end up in a situation like this.

Look at the PTS to
find out.

Well, the result is about the same: the package maintainer scripts
were assuming it to be available without relying on a dependency.

Erm, the point is not turning makedev into an essential package or
have it installed on every Debian system, but having capiutils (and
the few other binary packages from isdnutils) depend on it because it
needs a call to MAKEDEV in postinst. So, makedev would then be
installed on every system.that has one of these packages.

Sounds like you have a 'svn' binary somewhere else in your path. Make
sure you're using /usr/bin/svn specifically. Try 'type -a svn'.

I'm not an emacs user, and I can't reproduce it by manually
calling starttls. I will need some help with reproducing this.

I'm assinging it to both libssl0.9.8 and starttls until it's
clear where this bug comes from.

The non-working sound with openjdk is not the packages fault. Its an
openjdk bug. An entry in /usr/share/doc/jlgui/README.Debian about how
to get sound working with openjdk should be enough until sound is fixed
with openjdk.

Please prepare an uploadable version and I will upload it.

No, the right solution is to make the calls to MAKEDEV in the postinst
conditional, like in the following snippet from the ppp postinst:

# create /dev/ppp if we are not using udev
if [ ! -c /dev/ppp -a -e /dev/MAKEDEV ]; then
  cd /dev
  ./MAKEDEV ppp
fi

Please do something like that to avoid dependencies on makedev.

times until hugin starts up. Do whatever you need to do to reproduce
the crash. Then go to gdb window and enter

Show the output.

Hi,

I finally manage to find where the problem comes from trying to build
the package from source using this tutorial:

http://wiki.debian.org/HowToGetABacktrace

At the end of the package building process, it complains about fglrx
stuff which was installed on my computer. Removing all the packages
related to fglrx and restarting X have allowed me to get hugin starting
normally on my computer.
However, removing the fglrx stuff makes my windows moving very slowly
and scrolling as well. My video card is a asus eah4350 silent and i am
using the radeon driver.

Cheers,

Phil

Bug#553541: file overwrites

2009-11-02 Thread Ralf Treinen
Here is a list of files that are known to be shared by both packages
(according to the Contents file for sid/amd64, which may be
slightly out of sync):

  usr/share/info/as.info.gz
  usr/share/info/bfd.info.gz
  usr/share/info/binutils.info.gz
  usr/share/info/gprof.info.gz
  usr/share/info/ld.info.gz

Also, I am raising severity to serious since it is a policy violation
to attempt to overwrite files owned by other packages.

Thanks for reporting this! Please note that this had been reported as
#549797 already. Also, version 2.1.8-release-1 does not exist -- the
latest upstream version (and Debian packaging) is at 0.23.2. Did you mix
up some package names? The only package, I could find, that's using the
version number you've specified is cdtool which does not build depend on
any gnutls stuff, though …

Fixed cadaver packages will be uploaded tonight or tomorrow.

Cheers,
Sebastian

I finally could build this package sucessfully at smetana.debian.org. No
problems appeared with the sid dchroot, so this seems to be indeed a race
condition because lebrun seems to be a faster box than smetana.

I plan to upload a new NMU with minimal changes.

One is just calling the offending target (where things fail) with -j1. Seems
that the only way to really test this in a equivalent box is a new upload
(Yes, I hate this).

I also plan to fix lintian error

 * E weak-library-dev-dependency

  * ivtools-dev on libiv1 (>= ${binary:Version})

  * ivtools-dev on libiv-unidraw1 (>= ${binary:Version})

Since I uploaded last NMU and changes are minimal, I will probably do this
with no delay and soon. I will however wait a couple of days for
suggestions/objections. Comments are of course welcome.

Regards,

Thanks, that's clearly a separate issue; and 3 more binaries from
avifile-utils are affected. I re-uploaded the package to mentors.d.n
