Bug#561477: [security] must not RE-add /etc/apache2/conf.d/cacti.conf link on upgrade

This is done to restrict the access to 'cacti' on each virtual web site (the default behaviour in Debian). * cacti/webserver: Apache2 The question is: Why did you ask to do this in the first place? (according to your debconf settings) Ok, now I see that this is a way of disabling that symlink. Still, I would like to have the '/etc/cacti/apache.conf' file for reference to update my custom config which simply restricts the access to Intranet. which should be totally unrelated. Usually the file /etc/cacti/apache.conf should be installed together with the package while the symlink is created because you asked it, to. So sorry for the noise, except that I still not understand why people answer a priority high question with Configure my webserver: apache2 just for removing the symlink, it results into after, that. The debconf question is Which kind of web server should be used by cacti? so I answered apache2. Maybe this question should be updated to better describe its meaning? Well, it also says Select 'None' if you would like to configure your webserver by hand. but I agree that the wording of the question could be more clear. At system startup, gdm is launched with a qwerty keymap. But the only locale installed on my system is fr_FR.UTF-8 and Xorg is configured to use fr as the default keymap. A few details: - apart from the keymap, the rest of the interface is correctly localized, so it seems to be more a problem of the weird things done with setxkbmap in /etc/gdm/Init/Default than a problem of locale. - by default, the selected locale is last locale used. If I select either French or System default, the keymap is changed to fr immediately. Even if I select last language used once again beyond this point, the keymap remains in fr. - if do not touch the locale selection menu and login using the qwerty keymap, the keymap is then correctly set to fr in my session. Moreover, in both cases, when I logout, the keymap stays in fr. Well, this is annoying but I'm describing an easy workaround, so why tagging this as important? Because this bug does indeed render the system unusable for some users. Namely, when: - gdm is configured with a login browser, - the user chooses its login name by clicking on it, - then its password is rejected. In that (real-life) example, the user has no clue what's going on (remember, the interface is still in French). And gdm with a login browser in designed for such (possibly unexperienced) users who will then be locked out of the system. So please, fix this bug to save my grand-mother ;-) Regards, Gabriel Kerneis -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-1-amd64 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages gdm depends on: ii adduser3.110 add and remove users and groups ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.24Debian configuration management sy ii gksu 2.0.0-8 graphical frontend to su ii gnome-session [x-sessi 2.22.3-2 The GNOME 2 Session Manager ii gnome-terminal [x-term 2.22.3-3 The GNOME 2 terminal emulator appl ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.20-2 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libatk1.0-01.22.0-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libattr1 1:2.4.43-2Extended attribute shared library ii libc6 2.7-18GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.8.6-2 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libdbus-1-31.2.12-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.80-3simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdmx11:1.0.2-3 X11 Distributed Multihead extensio ii libfontconfig1 2.6.0-3 generic font configuration library ii libfreetype6 2.3.7-2 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libglade2-01:2.6.3-1 library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-0 2.18.4-2 The GLib library of C routines ii libgnomecanvas2-0 2.20.1.1-1A powerful object-oriented display ii libgtk2.0-02.12.12-1 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libpam-modules 1.0.1-5 Pluggable Authentication Modules f ii libpam-runtime 1.0.1-5 Runtime support for the PAM librar ii libpam0g 1.0.1-5 Pluggable Authentication Modules l ii libpango1.0-0 1.22.4-2 Layout and rendering of internatio ii librsvg2-2 2.22.2-4 SAX-based renderer library for SVG ii librsvg2-common2.22.2-4 SAX-based renderer library for SVG ii libselinux12.0.65-5 SELinux shared libraries ii libwrap0 7.6.q-16 Wietse Venema's TCP wrappers libra ii libx11-6 2:1.1.5-2 X11 client-side library ii libxau6

I have a backup of the system from right before the upgrade. If you are really interested, I can install that backup somewhere and try to replicate the bug. Bug#559746: /usr/sbin/ftpmirror: Segfaults on startup
Hi, first of all: I'm CC'ing the perl maintainers as I'm somehow suspecting a bug in perl itself. OK, here is the situation: ftpmirror segfaults as soon as you start it. After spending some time with debugging I wasn't really able to find the place where the SEGFAULT happens. OK, the last function it executes (according to the backtrace) but thats all I was able to find out, yet. Apart from this: If a script language bails out with a SIGSEGV this seems a lot like a interpreter bug to me. Comments (especially from the perl maintainers :) appreciated. Please update your build-dependencies. In fact, changing the (build-)deps is not enough. The package needs some porting to Java 6, due to the change in some stdlib interface. Also, new upstream releases of JHOVE are available, the most reasonable course of action would be updating the package to follow them. Maintainer, are you interested in packaging new upstream releases? If not I believe the package should be dropped from Debian, also considering that the popcon is really low. Something like: grep mail /etc/group mail:x:8:sven The mail group has read/write access to /var/mail/* and is intended for the mail daemons. For instance, Dovecot IMAP runs as the dovecot user ID, with mail group permission. Adding all users to the mail group is not just impractical, it is a worse security vulnerability than #500454. All users would be able to read and modify other's mailboxes. That is not to deny that #500454 is a security problem. But putting users in the mail group is not at all a solution. -- Rémi Denis-Courmont http://www.remlab.net/ http://fi.linkedin.com/in/remidenis -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Function `cgdb_malloc' implicitly converted to pointer at rline.c:452 This is often due to a missing function prototype definition. For more information, see [2]. rline.c appears to be missing an include for sys_util.h. Though it is guaranteed that this codepath will cause a segfault on certain architectures, it is not guaranteed that this codepath would ever be executed (e.g., if the returned pointer is never dereferenced). However, this bug does prevent the ia64 buildd from successfully building this package, resulting in a practical FTBFS issue and warranting the serious severity. Please contact ow...@bugs.debian.org immediately.) -- 563344: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=563344 Debian Bug Tracking System Contact ow...@bugs.debian.org with problems ---BeginMessage--- Package: povray Version: 1:3.7.0~beta29-1 Severity: serious Justification: Policy 2.3 Today I found that POV-Ray 3.7 is packaged in experimental: http://packages.debian.org/experimental/povray It's also patched to disable the beta expiration: http://patch-tracker.debian.org/patch/series/view/povray/1:3.7.0~beta29-1/80_beta.diff This seems to violate the beta license in *every possible way*. POV-Ray 3.7 betas are released under the normal POV-Ray license (which is non-free according to DFSG) *plus four significant restrictions* not present in final releases: * NOTICE * * This file is part of a BETA-TEST version of POV-Ray version 3.7. It is not * final code. Use of this source file is governed by both the standard POV-Ray * licences referred to in the copyright header block above this notice, and the * following additional restrictions numbered 1 through 4 below: * * 1. This source file may not be re-distributed without the written permission * of Persistence of Vision Raytracer Pty. Ltd. * * 2. This notice may not be altered or removed. * * 3. Binaries generated from this source file by individuals for their own * personal use may not be re-distributed without the written permission * of Persistence of Vision Raytracer Pty. Ltd. Such personal-use binaries * are not required to have a timeout, and thus permission is granted in * these circumstances only to disable the timeout code contained within * the beta software. * * 4. Binaries generated from this source file for use within an organizational * unit (such as, but not limited to, a company or university) may not be * distributed beyond the local organizational unit in which they were made, * unless written permission is obtained from Persistence of Vision Raytracer * Pty. Ltd. Additionally, the timeout code implemented within the beta may * not be disabled or otherwise bypassed in any manner. (taken from one of the source files from the upstream source tarball) The Debian package is redistributing entire source code of POV-Ray 3.7, available through packages.debian.org website and apt-get source -texperimental povray. This violates clause 1. The extra license restrictions for 3.7 betas are not mentioned in any file in /usr/share/doc/povray, which *I think* may violate clause 2. The Debian package has a patch disabling the beta timeout code, which is only allowed for personal use (according to clause 3), not for wider distribution. In addition, I don't think a Linux distribution counts as an organizational unit as mentioned in clause 4; therefore *Debian isn't allowed to redistribute 3.7 betas at all*. (If you don't agree with my reading of organizational unit, the rest still stands, such that 3.7~beta on debian would have to be binary-only and keeping the expiration code unmodified.) As I was told in debian-legal: If the maintainer for the povray package requested and got a written permission from Persistence of Vision Raytracer Pty. Ltd to avoid any of the four restrictions, it has to be mentioned in the copyright file. Bug#559825: CVE-2009-3736 update
Hi Michael, It has come to my attention that a lot of maintainers are simply adding a build-depends on libltdl3-dev to try to solve this problem. This is not a sufficient solution since your package will still use the embedded libtool code copy. You need to add '--without-included-ltdl' to your configure arguments to do this right. this also didn't work. I had to replace AC_LIBLTDL_CONVENIENCE by LTDL_INIT to make the package use the system installed library instead of the supplied one. On another note, if your package is affected in either stable or oldstable, it also must be fixed. The security team has determined that this issue is not sufficiently severe to warrant DSAs for the embedding packages, so instead, you should coordinate a proposed-update with the release team. I'll do this. Thanks, Jochen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

Bug#560544: debian/patches/02-fix-ftbfs-and-hrdiagram.dpatch
My previous patch (02-fix_set_item_calls.dpatch) for this problem fixed the FTBFS but included a subtle regression (thanks James Westby for noticing). This new patch (02-fix-ftbfs-and-hrdiagram-opts.dpatch) REPLACES the previous patch. It fixes the problem, and has been more carefully tested -- it fixes the regression and a subsequent race condition bug, both necessary to implement the intended functionality. The subtle regression: The checks in set_{label,diameter}_item e.g. if (globals::chart_rules.StarLabels == l) return; need to be pushed down a few lines -- past the program_hr stuff. The race condition bug: The set_{label,diameter}_item() accessor routines were checking globals::hr_program_viewer to determine whether the HR Diagram window had been started or not -- but that global doesn't get set until the configure event (maybe a race condition even, for other call stacks). The set routines need to check globals::hr_program_window instead, and the hr_quit() routine needs to stomp that global when the window goes down. 02-fix-ftbfs-and-hrdiagram-opts.dpatch Description: application/shellscript

This is a policy violation, because policy 3.9.1 states: The config script might be run before the preinst script, and before the package is unpacked or any of its dependencies or pre-dependencies are satisfied. Therefore it must work using only the tools present in essential packages. As the package might get unpacked _after_ running the script, it simply cannot depend on itself to be around at that point. -Patrick -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.31-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages aiccu depends on: ii cdebconf [debconf-2.0] 0.145Debian Configuration Management Sy ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.28 Debian configuration management sy ii iproute 20090324-1 networking and traffic control too ii iputils-ping3:20071127-2 Tools to test the reachability of ii iputils-tracepath 3:20071127-2 Tools to trace the network path to ii libc6 2.10.2-2 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libgnutls26 2.8.5-2 the GNU TLS library - runtime libr ii lsb-base3.2-23 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip ii ucf 3.0025 Update Configuration File: preserv Versions of packages aiccu recommends: ii ntp 1:4.2.4p7+dfsg-4 Network Time Protocol daemon and u ii ntpdate 1:4.2.4p7+dfsg-4 client for setting system time fro aiccu suggests no packages. -- no debconf information ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: aiccu Source-Version: 20070115-11 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of aiccu, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: aiccu_20070115-11.diff.gz to main/a/aiccu/aiccu_20070115-11.diff.gz aiccu_20070115-11.dsc to main/a/aiccu/aiccu_20070115-11.dsc aiccu_20070115-11_i386.deb to main/a/aiccu/aiccu_20070115-11_i386.deb A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. Hi, your package B-D on libc6-dev with a version, which is incorrect: libc6-dev is virtual on a bunch of architectures, where the libc (and its headers) has another version: | alpha, ia64: libc6.1(-dev) | hurd-i386 : libc0.3(-dev) | kfreebsd-* : libc0.1(-dev) If you really need to specify a version, you'll need to specify all of those packages. Bug#560939: CVE-2009-3560 and CVE-2009-3720 denial-of-services
Michael Gilbert wrote: The following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities Exposures) ids were published for expat. I have determined that this package embeds a vulnerable copy of xmlparse.c and xmltok_impl.c. However, since this is a mass bug filing (due to so many packages embedding expat), I have not had time to determine whether the vulnerable code is actually present in any of the binary packages derived from this source package. Please determine whether this is the case. If the binary packages are not affected, please feel free to close the bug with a message containing the details of what you did to check. According to the FAQ Swish prefers libxml for parsing if it's linked, while the included Expat copy is mostly a fallback for systems without libxml available. Ludovic, can you confirm? If so, we can close the bug. Cheers, Moritz -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org
