I haven't received any similar bug report for all this time, maybe this
happened to Kurt for some strange event?

At some point in time the chroot had the version from oldstable
or older, just like all my chroots and main systems. And I have
upgraded from that version. I never installed bash-completion.
But now some pacakge build-depends on that for some strange reason,
  and I get that error.

Looking closer at the issue, I don't understand at all why this error
happens, because dpkg _does_ allow to take over obsolete conffiles
without proper Replaces. Otherwise, the problem would likely have been
 reported before.

Indeed.

Also, regarding Luk's comment about weird versioned Replaces, it seems like
I'm not the only one using them:

$ apt-cache dumpavail | grep ^Replaces | grep -c \
2309
$ apt-cache dumpavail | grep ^Replaces | grep -v -c \
2148

It seems like versioned replaces are being used more than unversioned ones. :)

I'm closing this bug, since it seems to be environment-dependent and not
reproducible.

Bug#570387: prolog tests fail at least on powerpc

the prolog tests fail at least on powerpc. Please either fix these
that the package is built again, or ignore the failures in the

   | Description | A common usage of the ${EXTEN} channel variable in a |
   | | dialplan with wildcard pattern matches can lead to a |
   | | possible string injection vulnerability. By having a |
   | | wildcard match in a dialplan, it is possible to allow|
   | | unintended calls to be executed, such as in this |
   | | example: |
   | | |
   | | exten = _X.,1,Dial(SIP/${EXTEN})|
   | | |
   | | If you have a channel technology which can accept|
   | | characters other than numbers and letters (such as SIP) |
   | | it may be possible to craft an INVITE which sends data |
   | | such as 300Zap/g1/4165551212 which would create an |
   | | additional outgoing channel leg that was not originally |
   | | intentioned by the dialplan programmer. |
   | | |
   | | Usage of the wildcard character is common in dialplans |
   | | that require variable number length, such as European|
   | | dial strings.|
   | | |
   | | Please note that this is not limited to an specific |
   | | protocol or the Dial() application. |

Hi Asheesh,

I was not able to reproduce your bug.
My suspect was to turn off dbus, run quasselclient and see the crash.

But this did not work out.

Is dbus running on your machine?
Can you please update your dbus-x11 package? (I run 1.2.20-2)
Please install the debug packages for qt. (apt-get install libqt4-dbg)

Because we have no debug symbols for quassel at the moment:
Can you please recompile quassel with debug symbols?

Thanks alot,

 Hi Michael,

is the workaround something that might make sense upstream?
Notice that we have been unable to reproduce the problem.

Not really, it merely disables that specific test by commenting it out in the
.m4 file. It's reproducible on Debian machines, so it might be tied to that
specific version of SWI Prolog. I'll give more details in an email to ppl-devel
later on this day.

Best,
Michael

Bug#570387: prolog tests fail at least on powerpc

the prolog tests fail at least on powerpc. Please either fix these
that the package is built again, or ignore the failures in the
prolog testsuite. ppl is used as a gcc build-dependency, and we
shouldn't care that much about clean prolog tests.

I was aware of that and already have a workaround tested and ready for upload; I
just did not get around to do the final build. I'll try to get it done as soon
as possible.

Hi Michael,

Bug#552049: afflib: FTBFS everywhere but alpha i386

 * Michael Prokop m...@debian.org [20091213 19:14]:

  For version 3.5.2+dfsg-1
  https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?suite=unstablep=afflib
says that it's working for alpha, i386 and powerpc but fails for the
rest (again it's being the test suite that fails with test_passphrase.sh).

Did anyone of you contact upstream of afflib already?

Upstream is aware of the issue and will provide a new upstream
release which addresses this issue soon.

Just uploaded afflib_3.5.7. I've built it in a clean amd64
environment without any problems, so hopefully this upload resolves
this issue. Not closing this bugreport before having the according
buildd logs available though.

I just want to mention that, despite my results, Julien may be on to
something when suspecting libgl1-mesa-dri. I notice that Ubuntu has a
bug reporting that this problem *does* affect Ubuntu/Karmic for users
with the ATI Radeon Mobility 7500. It is possible that it is just
chance that my Radeon 9200 works perfectly when using Ubuntu/Karmic.

Also note that in that bug report they suggest downgrading
libgl1-mesa-dri as a workaround.

Bug#558784: apt: re-adds removed keys

2010-02-19 Thread David Kalnischkies
I still don't think it is a real bug as APT has a hard dependency on
debian-archive-keyring ~ it doesn't recommend this keys, it says:
You must have ALL these keys installed to use APT correctly and
on the other hand i see no reason why someone want to remove a
key from the debian-archive-keyring which would be not better be
done by the package itself for all users…
(we could questioning the dependency itself now of course)

But anyway, APT 0.7.25.1 includes some code to help with this -
let us call it - usecase: trusted.gpg can be split into fragment files.
Current status is to ship squeeze with support for these fragments
while not actually use it to be on the save side in regards to backports
and co and to recommend usage directly after squeeze release, so
i would tag it squeeze-ignore, but that is a decision up to the release team -
who is btw also responsible for debian-archive-keyring and therefore
the biggest player in a possible keyring-transition…

The big advantage is that we would no longer need apt-key and
therefore gpg to add/remove keys to apt's trusted keyring:
Simple mv, cp rm would be enough for managing, gpgv for usage and
gnupg could be dropped from Priority:important-list (see #387688).

The small advantage for you would be that this fragment files could
be real dpkg conf-files and neither apt nor debian-archive-keyring would need
special code (aka apt-key update) to ensure a correctly setupped keyring.

The files are still binary files so dpkgs conffile handling wouldn't be that
helpful, but at least the md5sum mismatch would be noticeable…
(Yes, binary is required here as gpgv only supports the binary format)
On the other hand the keyrings could be fragmented in
debian-archive-keyring-lenny.gpg, debian-archive-keyring-squeeze.gpg,
whatever.gpg so the situation would be in 99% of all cases
a removed conffile instead of a modified… (if modified at all).

Oh, and yes, after that apt could lower the debian-archive-keyring
dependency to recommends as it wouldn't need to set it up any longer,
but i would like to defer this discussion to some point after squeeze…

Best regards / Mit freundlichen Grüßen,

David Kalnischkies

P.S.: I fail to see why /var/lib is a better place for trusted keys than /etc.
APT doesn't modify it while running, it isn't bound to a specific host
(why i should not share my trusted keys between my boxes as i do
with my other APT settings?) and users can modify it (to some extend).

This is simply a documentation issue; you need to use --no-inc-recursive

Actually, I'm not sure the patch is the right one. My doubts come from
the fact that postgresql binaries are usually installed under
/usr/lib/postgresql/*/bin/ and then have symlinks under /usr/bin/ which
pass through /usr/share/postgresql-common/pg_wrapper . Are you sure that
pg_prove and pg_tagpen should not have the same fate? Can please the
maintainer comment on that?

I'm also copying the PostgreSQL maintainers to ask for their advice on
this.

TIA,

Bug#563600: lockdev: diff for NMU version 1.0.3-1.4

2010-02-19 Thread Christoph Egger
Dear maintainer,

I've prepared an NMU for lockdev (versioned as 1.0.3-1.4) and
uploaded it to DELAYED/2. Please feel free to tell me if I
should delay it longer.

I've tested the resulting binaries against lintian and piuparts and
took the freedom to adress the Source-Version warning as well, hope
you don't mind.

Regards.

Christoph

This asm constraints has been removed from gcc 4.4, that why it was not
failing before. See http://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-4.4/changes.html for more
details, including a description of the new way to do it.

I don't have time to provide a patch right now, but I can have a look
later this week if you want.

I knew about that, but but would prefer that someone else writes
the patch. It would also be nice if you could compare the output
before and after this change (write it to a file with madplay
or something), and check to see if there is a performance
 difference.

Please find a patch below. I have tested it by converting an mp3 file
into a wave file and verifying it is the same with and without the
patch.

Package: polipo
Version: 1.0.4-1
Severity: grave
Tags: patch
Justification: renders package unusable

When polipo receives a Cache-Control: max-age line without a value,
it logs a parsing error but then continues to use the not-parsed value,
resulting in a segfault. It does this in several places in http_parse.c.
I have attached a stacktrace and patch that seems to
work for me. You should check that I have not missed an occurence of the
same error.

Hi,

A vulnerability has been found in polipo that allows a remote attacker to
crash the daemon via an overly large Content-Length header.
The vulnerability is caused by connection-reqlen (in client.c:
httpClientDiscardBody()) being a signed integer which can be overflowed
turning it into a negative value which later leads to a segmentation fault in
the call to memmove.

If you fix this vulnerability please include the CVE id in your changelog
entry, when one is assigned. Please work with the security team to fix this
vulnerability in the stable and oldstable releases.

Bug#516394: Is there a plan to get djbdns again into testing

2010-02-19 Thread L. Alberto Giménez
Hi,

I'd love to have djbdns package back in Debian. What's the status of
this bug?

I've read all links from this bug report (and its replies) and it seems
to me that the problem is a DNS protocol problem, not djbdns (it seems
that tere isn't even an exploit).

From the djbdns list you can extract that this bug has been present in
all DNS software from the beginning (in fact, DJB disclosed the problem
publicly circa 1999), so it doesn't seem breaking news at all.

So, the *real* problem here for the security guys is that now djbdns is
*more* vulnerable than other DNS software?

Would they mind to propose a way to have djbdns back in testing? I think
that there is a quite bunch of people using djbdns, and it would be very
nice to have it packaged for Debian.

Thanks a lot.

Thomas,

As you are aware siproxd contains an convenience copy of libltdl and there is
no method in the configure script to use a system provided libltdl.

While I can understand that providing this library directly with your code
helps your users build the package, this does also introduce a security
vulnerability as a bug in the library then needs to be fixed in each and every
application which includes a convenience copy.

This has indeed occurred (see attached) with a local privilege escalation issue
(CVE) being identified in the convenience copy of libltdl you ship with siproxd.

Whilst Debian has already fixed this CVE for the system provided libltdl, we
now need to go through every single application that provides a convenience
copy.

So you should be aware that siproxd as shipped in your upstream distribution is
vunerable to CVE-2009-3736.

Could I ask you to modify your configure script to check first for a system
provided libltdl and use that in preference to any convenience copy.

I would recommend that you don't ship a convenience copy, for these reasons
and, make libltdl a build time system dependency, as you have done with
libosip2.

If you do wish to continue to ship libltdl, then you should ensure it is
uptodate and at least fixes the CVE identified in this report.

Could I ask you to maintain the (Cc:) in any replies so we can track this issue
correctly in our Bug Tracking System (BTS). You may also wish to subscribe to
our email based Package Tracking System (PTS) for siproxd, had you been
subscribed you would of received the attached email directly rather than second
hand through me: http://packages.qa.debian.org/s/siproxd.html

I will attempt to modify your configure script to address this issue in Debian,
however this bug report effects all your distributed source packages.

Thanks,
Mark

Hi,

The following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities Exposures) id was
published for libtool. I have determined that this package embeds a
vulnerable copy of the libtool source code. However, since this is a
mass bug filing (due to so many packages embedding libtool), I have not
had time to determine whether the vulnerable code is actually present
in any of the binary packages. Please determine whether this is the
case. If the binary packages are not affected, please feel free to close
the bug with a message containing the details of what you did to check.

CVE-2009-3736[0]:
| ltdl.c in libltdl in GNU Libtool 1.5.x, and 2.2.6 before 2.2.6b,
| attempts to open a .la file in the current working directory, which
| allows local users to gain privileges via a Trojan horse file.

Note that this problem also affects etch and lenny, so if your package
is affected, please coordinate with the security team to release the
DSA for the affected packages.

If you fix the vulnerability please also make sure to include the
CVE id in your changelog entry.

No, I'm not sure of that. I'm quite happy for the correct solution to

Consistency in the treatment of these binaries is valuable.

Can please the maintainer comment on that?

Package: libmad0-dev
Version: 0.15.1b-4
Severity: important
Justification: fails to build from source

The new mpg321 version 0.2.11-1 has recently been uploaded (aims to close many
bugs and provide new features) but fails to compile to mips and mipsel
architectures.
The problem seems to be in mad_f_mul function which reports an impossible
constraint error in 'asm'.
Below is the link [0] of the buildd log file from the mips architecture. It is
the same for the mipsel also.

Thanks in advance,
Chris.

Severity: serious

The classpath source package has a versioned Build-Depends on gjdoc, but also
Build-Depends on gcj which on hppa Depends on gcj-jdk, which Provides and
Conflicts with gjdoc. This is because hppa has moved to gcj-4.4 as the
default; once other architectures use that as the default, the problem will
appear on all architectures.

Hi,

Ruby 1.9.0 is going away in Squeeze, replaced by Ruby 1.9.1. This
transition is made mandatory by API changes upstream.

Your package currently ships some files in /usr/lib/ruby/1.9.0. This
will no longer work with 1.9.1.

You can either:
- port your package to Ruby 1.9.1
- drop the Ruby 1.9.X binary package

There is more information on http://wiki.debian.org/Ruby191Transition

Thanks

Yes, the executable bit was lost when trasmitting the diff. A patch is
included that ensures the helper is executable. Meanwhile, you can fix
this by using
chmod 0755 /usr/lib/ConsoleKit/run-seat.d/nvidia_helper.ck

Bug#568106: programs belong in /usr/bin/

2010-02-19 Thread Martin Pitt
Hello all,

On Tue, Feb 09, 2010 at 10:08:50PM +1100, Ben Finney wrote:

Actually, I'm not sure the patch is the right one. My doubts come from
the fact that postgresql binaries are usually installed under
/usr/lib/postgresql/*/bin/ and then have symlinks under /usr/bin/ which
pass through /usr/share/postgresql-common/pg_wrapper . Are you sure that
pg_prove and pg_tagpen should not have the same fate? Can please the
 maintainer comment on that?

I'm a bit confused by pgtap on first sight. It builds against a
particular server version (8.4), but does not itself have a versioned
package name, and only links/depends on libpq5, no server.

 * Is pgtap client side only, in other words, does it work with
several server versions? In that case, binaries should go to
/usr/bin, as Peter and Ben suggested.

 * If this is a server-side extension, i. e. is linked against a
particular server version and won't work with any other, then the
binary should have a versioned name, and we need to manage the
   binaries through pg_wrapper.

Please see /usr/share/doc/postgresql-common/architecture.html for some
more details about how this is designed.

Thanks, and have a good weekend,

Martin

P.S. Just don't let you confuse with Use appropriate ‘debian/dirs’
file for single-package source. Using an explicit package name, such
as debian/pgtap.dirs is just fine, and causes less confusion if you
ever add a second binary package.

Bug#568106: programs belong in /usr/bin/

2010-02-19 Thread Pierre Chifflier
Hi all,

I'm adding David (pgTAP author) in CC: of this discussion.

David: this is about finding if binaries (pg_prove and pg_tapgen) should
be stored in /usr/bin (if it is common to all postgresql versions) or in
/usr/lib/postgresql/*/bin if it is version-specific.
The complete discussion can be found here:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=568106

If it's version specific, I think I should add the version to the name
of the binary package.

BR,
Pierre

You either need an unversioned replaces or bash needs
to remove the conf file. See:
 http://wiki.debian.org/DpkgConffileHandling

I think it's best if bash handles it.

The link above is useless in this case: the file isn't supposed to be modified
by the user (in fact, it should belong to /usr/share/, we're already working
on this upstream), so the maintainer shouldn't care about possible changes. I
believe just removing the file if the version from which the user is upgrading
is 3.1dfsg-9 is sufficient. I'm reassigning the bug.

Kindly,
David

On Sunday 13 December 2009 10:07:00 you wrote:
It has come to my attention that a lot of maintainers are simply adding
a build-depends on libltdl3-dev to try to solve this problem. This is
not a sufficient solution since your package will still use the
embedded libtool code copy. You need to add '--without-included-ltdl'
to your configure arguments to do this right.

Michael,

Thanks for surfacing this issue, I have forwarded the issue upstream as you may
of seen from my earlier email.

One issue is that for '--without-included-ltdl' to work, it needs to be
supported in the configure script, which in a lot of cases it isn't :-(

I have been revewing a few packages which rdepend on libltdt7 to see how they
have setup configure to address this issue.

Something like:

configure.ac:
dnl
dnl Check for libltdl
dnl
AC_CHECK_LIB([ltdl],[lt_dlinit],,
[AC_MSG_ERROR([[libltdl not found]])])

Will perform the check, but then things get complicated in terms of changing
paths, ensuring that the imbedded copy doesn't get built/ linked against.

Do you have any code snippets from best practise for using the system provided
libltdl?

Thanks,
Mark

Hi,

Ruby 1.9.0 is going away in Squeeze, replaced by Ruby 1.9.1. This
transition is made mandatory by API changes upstream.

Your package currently ships some files in /usr/lib/ruby/1.9.0. This
will no longer work with 1.9.1.

You can either:
- port your package to Ruby 1.9.1
- drop the Ruby 1.9.X binary package

There is more information on http://wiki.debian.org/Ruby191Transition

Thanks

Hello Soeren,

Soeren Sonnenburg [2010-02-12 17:38 +0100]:
all printing fails with /usr/lib/cups/filter/pstopdf failed

This is a little thin. What documents are you trying to print? Can you
attach a test case? What is your printer? Can you please attach
/var/log/cups/error_log after a failed print attempt?

Since testing/unstable has 0.38, I think this bug can be closed..

This will make it horribly hard for a backporter. You need to
explicitely state when a dependencie need at least a particular
 version.
This is an implicit dependencie, I really do not understand why you
refuse the change I propose ? what is so wrong with my proposal ?

FWIW: I completely agree. If libfile-copy-recursive-perl = 0.38 is
needed and there are older versions in the archive then a versioned
dependency is warranted.
