Bug#574919: tzdata: in Kamchatka, Russia goverment change timezone settings from 2010.03.28.

2010-03-21 Thread Alexander Romanov
Package: tzdata
Version: 2010e-1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

In Kamchatka, Russia, goverment change timzeone settings - now we have UTC+12 /
UTC+13 summer;
from 2010.03.28 we will have UTC+11 / UTC+12 summer.
changes from winter to summer time will be the same as it was.

i don't now; whom should i send this info to change tzdata, so send it to bugs
of debian.

the zone file named europe should be changed like this:

-
# The Zone name should be Asia/Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski, but that's too long.
Zone Asia/Kamchatka 10:34:36 - LMT 1922 Nov 10

Hi,

dvi2ps is now uninstallable in sid, because it depends on libkpathsea4,
but libkpathsea5 is now shipped by texlive-bin. [1]

However, dvi2ps doesn't appear to work anyway with the new libkpathsea5.
[2] Maybe that bug report needs to have a higher severity.

Regards,
Daniel

Package: dvi2ps
Version: 4.1j-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Whenever I run 'dvi2ps foo' I get the following error message (and
nothing else):

dvi2ps: FATAL-- cannot open fontdesc file "bikan-mor2"

This used to work. It happens even for a trivial foo.tex:

\documentclass{article}
\begin{document}
hello, world
\end{document}

I then produce foo.dvi with either 'latex foo' (from texlive-latex-base)
or 'jlatex foo' (from jtex-bin). Either way, dvi2ps fails, complaining
about bikan-mor2.

dvi2ps worked for me for many years, but I hadn't tried it in the last
few years, so some upgrade in the last few years must have broken it.

Package: ddclient
Version: 3.8.0-10
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

Hi,

A local user could perform a symlink attack against /tmp/ddclient.cache file.
I see two solutions for this problem:
1) use /var/run/ddclient.cache as the cache file (only root has access here)
2) use `mktemp' to create a non-predictable temporary file.

The first solution seem to be the best as it avoids the complexity of working
with non-predictable temporary files (create, find, update, close).

Thanks

After sending the last message one idea crossed my mind that it might
be my own configuration (adapted from [1]) and as usual the most
obvious thing is the cause of the problem:
| r...@r2:~# grep cache /etc/ddclient.conf
| cache=/tmp/ddclient.cache

Does this segfault still occur if you enable 'client lanman auth' in your

Package: parted

Justification: renders package unusable

*** Please type your report below this line ***

On GParted bugzilla, a bug about parted 1.9.0 not informing the kernel
of changes to the partition table has been confirmed [1]. I believe this
bug also exists in the parted 1.8.8.git.2009.07.19-5, which is now in
Debian Sid.

A patch file on git.debian.org is available:
http://git.debian.org/?p=parted/parted.git;a=commit;h=ad25892bb995f61b0ddf801ed1f74e0b1e7390ce
Or you can find it at the fedora site:
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=129982

Hope this one can be applied in parted 1.8.8.git.2009.07.19-5, or the
upcoming 1.9.0 (if it will be available soon), too. My 2 cents.

Hi,
I'm sorry , I cannot understand what you wrote.
Might you write in English, please?

I can guess that there is an issue about libglib1.2 with gocr-gtk
0.41-1.
gocr-gtk is not present anymore in gocr upstream and consequently has
been removed from the Debian package.

It seems that you are using packages from etch (oldstable), in which
gocr-gtk was still present; you installed gocr 0.46 from testing in
which gocr-gtk is not present anymore.

If you need a GUI to use gocr, please refer to gocr-tk, which is still
present in current upstream package.

Please confirm if this is the problem you're encountering.

thanks,
C.

After checking the output with the above patch again more closely I've
seen that the error is still present, just that it no longer leads to a
fatal error with the patch. I need to examine this further and have
disapproved the above revision until then.

Package: rrdtool

Hi,

iptotal.cgi (from the iptotal package) contains the following line

which causes rrdcgi to crash with the following backtrace:

stack_end=0xbfa40bac) at libc-start.c:222

Afer some investigation, I found that the problem is in the line 991
of rrd_cgi.c:

  last = rrd_last(argc + 1, (char **) args - 1);

The first argument of rrd_last() should obviously be argc (which is 2),
not argc + 1. Also please note that second argument of the function
refers to address before the start of the array, which seems to
be a very bad programming style, and which in fact is a root cause of the
crash as rrd_last() tries to display argv[0] in an error message.

The attached patch fixes the problem.

Regards,
robert

Hello,

After upgrading to rrdtool 1.4.2-1, my package iptotal [1] became unusable.

It seems like the "RRD::TIME::LAST" keyword, that is used in iptotal's
CGI scripts, leads rrdcgi to a segfault.

This bug has been declared and corrected upstream [2]. A patch is
available on upstream's VCS [3] [4].

Would it be possible to include this patch in the Debian package?

Thank you for your consideration.
 Ignace M

The D-I package rootskel failed to build with this version and also after
upgrading to 1.5.17-2 because header files could not be found.

The cause was traced to the fact that instead of symlinks there are empty

Ok, the simplified version has been committed in dbb536a64.

Bug#551926: cannot be installed together with pip or pip-python

2010-03-21 Thread Ian Bicking
I won't rename pip upstream. The Perl pip package didn't show any
liveliness, was not packaged, and both our commands are superseded by
another old command line tool called pip for dealing with pipes -- that
project isn't causing any naming problems despite having had a better online
presence than pip (though it appears by now that the presence of Perl's pip
has come up slightly to reverse that). No one asked or even suggested I
rename pip when I announced the name, someone merely noted that a tool with
the same name existed.

Personally I think virtualenv is more reasonable to package anyway, and it
includes pip in a localized way that avoids name clashes.

Thanks for coming back to that issue, and we really should solve
this!

> What about using python-pip for the executable of the python-pip package
> and using perl-pip for the executable of the pip package?

To be honest: Since the perl pip is older and Ian was considering a
rename to pypip [0] my hope was that we can leave the perl package
as-is and the python package would first change upstream and then in
Debian. (In general I see no advantage of changing two binaries in
Debian.)

CC'ing Ian to get an update on his point of view.

Cheers,

Hello,

Current set of supported Python versions is {2.5, 2.6} and 2.6 is going
to be the default soon. However, debconf still installs Python modules
only for 2.4 and 2.5.

If you need help with fixing this bug, don't hesitate to ask on

Easy to reproduce:

xdg-email --body "this is\na test"

with icedove 3.0.2 set as default MUA.

It says the body may contain newlines, but it says nothing about "\n",
which is an escape sequence.

This works for me:

xdg-email --body 'foo

or:

xdg-email --body "$(printf foo\\nbar)"

Bug#551926: cannot be installed together with pip or pip-python

2010-03-21 Thread Carl Chenet
Hi,

I'm a new maintainer for the python-pip package and it would be great to
solve this blocking issue.

The python-pip and pip packages have quite the same popcon, and it is
hard to select one using the name "pip".

What about using python-pip for the executable of the python-pip package
and using perl-pip for the executable of the pip package?

We need to reach a good solution for both of the packages as soon as
possible.

Bye,

Hmm ok, this is strange. When I wrote this I tested it and it was using
/var/cache and I had a *quick* look at the code that indicated the same. Maybe
the ddclient maintainer can clarify the situation, I lack the time to digg
deeper.

@Timothy: I was a bit careful about setting have_pipe after `if
(readying) ...` here - if you think this would not introduce a problem,
then this patch could be simplyfied of course.

The simpler way should be fine, neither version of remove_from_probe
cares about the reactor's internal state.

A recent update of the gdc package has brought about a few language changes,
most notably regarding static array initialisation.

The error in this build log is to do with trailing comma's in arrays literal
expressions, there is a bug report regarding the issue in dmd:
http://d.puremagic.com/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=3854
The way that report is panning out, looks like this is a deliberate feature
of the language, so attached to this post is a patch to fix the source for

thanks

Hi,

I’ve upgraded gettext too, t̲h̲e̲n̲ found the r̲e̲a̲l̲ cause for the
issue (upstream’s “interesting” way to find the module path
breaks with autoconf >2.60, IIRC) and fixed it in the pkg-wml
git repository.

XTaran (new maintainer) says he’ll clean up the package and
make a new upload RSN (I don’t know with which urgency though).

Sorry for the unintended breakage.

Thanks for your bugreport and subsequent information!

It turns out that starting from python-routes 1.12, which has hit
unstable at the beginning of march, a default on Routes setup TG2 was
relying upon has been changed. The patch provided by Piotr (thanks!)
enforces the needed configuration setup, no matter upstream default.

The bug is now fixed in svn and it fixes the 404 error for quickstarted
apps. If you can try the patch with your old applications it would be
awesome (just "debcheckout turbogears2" and build the package).

Cheers.

It doesn't apper to be using that directory. This is what I have on my laptop:
| d...@r2:~$ ls -l /tmp/ddclient.cache /var/cache/ddclient/

Also, I'm watching syslog quite a lot and I noticed this line at boot:

The D-I package rootskel failed to build with this version and also after
upgrading to 1.5.17-2 because header files could not be found.

From what I see it is using /var/cache/ddclient/ddclient.cache. Can you
elaborate why you think it's using /tmp/?

And here is the version info:

   $ ghc-pkg list Cabal

Your installation is messed up. I suspect that you are using a local
copy of cabal-install. Here's what it should look like (from a squeeze
chroot):

  r...@chicken:/# cabal --version
  cabal-install version 0.8.0

Try in a new user account or remove ~/.cabal and see if you can
reproduce, please.

Bug#574697: please test proposed fix

2010-03-21 Thread Michael Biebl
Hi everyone

@Julien, Brad: I think your particular issue is a different bug then Sam
reported in #471565. It looks more like a duplicate of #574697

Could you all, who experienced this crashes with 1.2.22 in dbus-daemon, try the
packages from [1] and report back if they fix your problems.

Thanks,
Michael

Bug#574832: [security] possible symlink attack against /tmp/ddclient.cache

2010-03-21 Thread Teodor
Package: ddclient
Version: 3.8.0-10
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

Hi,

A local user could perform a symlink attack against /tmp/ddclient.cache file.
I see two solutions for this problem:
1) use /var/run/ddclient.cache as the cache file (only root has access here)
2) use `mktemp' to create a non-predictable temporary file.

The first solution seem to be the best as it avoids the complexity of working
with non-predictable temporary files (create, find, update, close).

Thanks

Hello Kumar,

thank you for taking care of the bug.

Unfortunately in your upload the dependencies are wrong.

GLPK-Java 1.0.13 requires libglpk-dev >= 4.43 (due to glpk_error_hook()).

Best regards

Bug#574828: X freezing after upgrade in 1:7.5+5 with nv and nvidia drivers

2010-03-21 Thread pbi
Package: xorg
Version: 1:7.5+5
Severity: critical
Tags: sid

I have a Quadro NVS 440, (i.e. 2 GPU, 2 screens in twinview per GPU, and
xinerama to unite both groups).
Everything was working with nvidia proprietary driver.
Now after the upgrade, the X server freezes the box with the nvidia driver.
The nv driver has time time to display the pager, let the user move the mouse
pointer a bit, but freezes also.
I also got this message once, with the nvidia driver IIRC:
"[mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop"
without a chance to copy the stack trace.

The vesa driver is working.

There is problem to write in /dev/pts with my debbootstrap and i don't know
why but no problem about dhcp-probe purge...
In the log file provided, there is problem on the "ifconfig" command which is
not installed. In my newly built chroot, ifconfig is in without any further
operation. I don't understand this !

For the package purge problem, the only "exit 1" in postrm script is when
there is an unknown argument provided to the postrm script, so i don't
understand. On my laptop you can see that purging is working as above logs
show.

Bug#574784: [xdg-utils] mangles linebreaks

2010-03-21 Thread Per Olofsson

Hi,

2010-03-21 01:04, Bastian Venthur skrev:

according to the manpage of xdg-email the --body text may contain
newlines, but this does not work anymore. I tested only with icedove, it
used to work a few weeks ago.

Easy to reproduce:

xdg-email --body "this is\na test"

with icedove 3.0.2 set as default MUA.

It says the body may contain newlines, but it says nothing about "\n",
which is an escape sequence.

This works for me:

xdg-email --body 'foo
bar'

or:

xdg-email --body "$(printf foo\\nbar)"

Package: haskell-hxt
Version: 8.5.1-1
Severity: serious
Justification: fails to build from source

The autobuilders all consider haskell-hxt to have uninstallable
build-dependencies, presumably because it build-depends on
libcurl4-openssl-dev | libcurl-dev, ..., libghc6-curl-dev, with
libghc6-curl-dev in turn specifically depending on
libcurl4-gnutls-dev. Please either rely on that indirect dependency
or take care not to interfere with it; I suspect it should be safe to
specify libghc6-curl-dev, libcurl4-gnutls-dev | libcurl-dev.

Thanks!

Upstream is working on it at http://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-21802 (you
won't be able to view the bug entry, it's protected until the bug is fixed)
and the patch from http://www.ja-sig.org/issues/browse/PHPCAS-52 is currently

Bug#565801: firebird2.5: FTBFS on kfreebsd-amd64 with -O1, builds fine with -O0

2010-03-21 Thread Petr Salinger
Hi again.

> I found that changing -O level is sufficient to build this package.
> The next step should be find somehow, which ".o" file built with -O1
> causes the trouble.

  dpkg-buildpackage -b -uc
wait for segfault (or hang) during
../gen/firebird/bin/gbak_static -MODE read_only -R
../builds/misc/help.gbak ../gen/firebird/help/help.f$
  make clean
  make -C gen -f ../gen/Makefile.boot.gpre gpre_boot
  make -C gen -f ../gen/Makefile.libfbstatic libfbstatic

  alter gen/make.platform to "-O0"
  rm gen/firebird/lib/libfbstatic.a
  rm temp/boot/dsql/*
  make -C gen -f ../gen/Makefile.libfbstatic libfbstatic
  alter gen/make.platform to "-O1" or "-O2"

  make

The problem seems be in (compilation of)
some file from the rebuilt ones.

As this bug is going to block transitions,
it might be usefull to use

  CFLAGS=-O0 CXXFLAGS=-O0 ./configure $(confflags) --enable-superserver

when DEB_HOST_ARCH is kfreebsd-amd64 to workaround it in mean time.

No idea why it affects kfreebsd-amd64 but not (linux-)amd64.
Used gcc version 4.4.3 (Debian 4.4.3-2)

Bug#574816: dselect no longer shows dependency/conflicts screen

2010-03-21 Thread Robert Luberda
Package: dselect
Version: 1.15.6
Severity: grave
Tags: patch
Justification: renders package unusable

dselect no longer shows the "recurisve package listings" screens that
allows uset to manually resolve dependencies or conflicts. Instead it
automatically (de)selects all dependant packages.
To reproduce:
1. run dselect select
2. find libc6 and press - to mark it for removal. This will autmatically
mark all other packages for removal without asking user about any
confirmation!

The bug was introdced by commit f426b031ac858fa30ace69959a43b61fb40f4be9:
   Author: Guillem Jover 2010-02-10 02:13:30

Hi,

your package FTBFS badly on kfreebsd, but that may very well be due to
the switch to a later gcc versions, which rebuilds by Lucas probably
didn't catch since this version has been in experimental for quite some
time. Let's avoid quoting the build log here, too many errors, build
logs at the usual place:

(Please make sure to remove myself from Uploaders when uploading

Bug#567582: boot failure: "the symbol 'grub_env_find' not found"

2010-03-21 Thread Harald Dunkel
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Using 1.98-1 I haven't got this problem anymore.

Is it possible that this message come up when MBR and the grub
version do not match? My PC changes the disk sequence on almost
every reboot. What happens if there is an old grub boot sector
on hd0, and a new (different) grub version on the boot disk, e.g.
a software RAID?

Is there some tool to obtain information from the grub MBR for
verification?

Bug#574809: dbus crashes on resume

2010-03-21 Thread Andrea De Iacovo
Package: dbus
Version: 1.2.22-1
Severity: critical
Tags: sid

Everytime system comes up from sleep or hibernation dbus crashes making gdm
crash too.
This can bring to serious data loss if important files were opened in the lost
session.

Trying to restart gdm brings up a "failed to initialize HAL" popup and the
system results widely unusable (no automount, no wireless connectivity and so
on).

Restarting dbus makes gdm fully functional again.

Regards.

I don't think the boot deps have been changed since they were introduced;
prepending the $ to the two non-virtual deps was probably just an oversight.
I'll take care of it in the next update.

Hi,

I found that changing -O level is sufficient to build this package.
The next step should be find somehow, which ".o" file built with -O1
causes the trouble.
