I neither concluded nor claimed this. I just cc'd you in case you'd

Package: mplayer
Version: 1.0~rc3+svn20090405-1+b1
Severity: serious

After an upgrade from lenny, mplayer asked for a conffile replacement,
in /etc/mplayer.conf. However I never touched this file, it was
generated by mplayer itself using the debconf configuration.

This package probably needs to use ucf to detect whether this file was
changed from the debconf-generated one.

Bug#573505: php-doc xml validation error caused by libxml2 / fixed by new upstream version

Hey Matthijs, thanks a lot for your in depth investigation!

So, it turns out we can easily fix this problem by packaging the latest
version of the php documentation. Considering that we're currently shipping a
version from 2008, that seems like a good idea anyway.

Agreed. My previous comment on that was however that to properly package
new upstream we should additionally package the latest PhD which, IMHO,
deserves to be in a separate (and hence NEW) package. If the maintainer
is willing to go that way, I believe it would be the most appropriate
solution. Unfortunately, I've thus far been unable to get any answer
whatsoever on the matter from Lior.

An alternative path can be to try backporting the upstream fix to the
current version of the package in sid, adding the needed xmlns=
attribute where needed.

Cheers.

Is there any use for PhD outside the php-doc package? If not, I'm not sure
it worth to split them to two separate packages. In any case, I'd like to
first upload a updated package, and only then try to split them.

AFAIK PhD is a generic document processor, so there _can_ be. Even
though there are none in Debian yet, there advantages in having the two
separate, e.g.: you can update them separately, you get a proper
uscan/watch notification of new versions of the two, users can use PhD
themselves, etc; all in all, packaging them separately seems to me to be
more the Debian way of doing things, YMMV.

Of course there are disadvantages too, such as the fact that, right now,
PhD will need to pass through NEW.

In any case, I'd like to first upload a updated package, and only then
 try to split them.

That sounds about right.

Thanks for getting back on this!
Cheers.

xfstt init script should be run after xfs init script when xfs is
installed (which often is). This is because xfs init scripts manipulates

causes one of the sockets not being visible in that direcotry.

I'm not convinced if the libc6 is the correct place to report this bug
to, but having this bug will prevent the release of Debian on mips*
(as DSA needs to have mkhomedir available). Please also note that this
programm wasn't part of lenny, as the pam module was restructred
recently. It however does work on i386.

Bug#575254: openjdk-6 build fails on at least one i386 build due to long command lines

2010-05-02 Thread Giovanni Mascellani
Cc:-ing the wb-team.

Hi, I'm working on a OpenJDK bug: the build fails with:

make[8]: execvp: /bin/sh: Argument list too long

I would like to know the value of ARG_MAX used on the buildd nodes.
Could you also suggest me how to change it on my system? I couldn't find
anything.

 computer.

yes, it would be nice to know how, and why buildds are configured this way.

  * The generated Makefile is not really idempotent. I'm investigating on
 how to make it so.

didn't check, but would enclosing the foreach in an if/wildcard work?

   $(if $(wildcard $(AGENT_FILES1)),,$(foreach ...))

There are two problems with my patch: first, if the Makefile is executed
twice, the list of files to compile has doubled entries; second, the
list of files to compile is generated disregarding which target is being
executed. This is due to the fact that the $(shell ...) command is
evaluated before the target get executed. I couldn't find a way to fix
this, so far.

I cannot understand which problem you're trying to fix with this
if/wildcard construction.

Thanks, Giovanni.

Updated to add configure check for
boost::program_options::validation_error construction semantics and to
cope with different semantics for different Boost versions.

I'll merge this patch onto the stable release branch and make a new
point release shortly.

Bug#575254: openjdk-6 build fails on at least one i386 build due to long command lines

Hi, I'm working on a OpenJDK bug: the build fails with:

make[8]: execvp: /bin/sh: Argument list too long

I would like to know the value of ARG_MAX used on the buildd nodes.
Could you also suggest me how to change it on my system? I couldn't find
 anything.

I have no idea why we would change that or how you should do that.
Note that execvp() is a system call. So this would be a kernel
limit, and setrlimit() doesn't let you set this.

I get:
$ getconf ARG_MAX
2097152

And I get that on all the buildds I've tried it too, but that
wasn't under sbuild, if it somehow managed to change that.

man sysconf(3) also has:
BUGS
It is difficult to use ARG_MAX because it is not specified how much of
the argument space for exec(3) is consumed by the user's environment
   variables.

The bulk of these issues relate to changes in the schroot.conf
file format. They are merely warnings that you should remove
keys which are no longer used. Please read the provided NEWS
file which documents these changes.

 schroot -c unstable-mipsel-sbuild

I: This option will be removed in the future; please update your configuration
 W: line 7 [sid-experimental-mipsel-sbuild]: Deprecated key 'run-exec-scripts'

I: This option will be removed in the future; please update your configuration

Just remove run-setup-scripts and run-exec-scripts keys from your chroot
definitions.

 W: line 11 [sid-experimental-mipsel-sbuild]: Unknown key 'source-users' used
I: This option may be present in a newer version

I'd need to see the chroot definition for this. Depending upon the chroot
type, it may or may not provide a source chroot. If it doesn't, this key
isn't valid. This is just checking more strictly; it was likely already
incorrect.

E: 25nssdatabases: Unknown database: # System databases to copy into the
 chroot from the host system.

This isn't part of schroot or sbuild; it's been added to the buildd version
of sbuild to work around the lack of a 20nssdatabases script in schroot
(not present in earlier versions). If you're upgrading to 1.4.x, then this
may be safely dropped. You're missing the logic for stripping comment lines
present in the schroot 20nssdatabases script. You should just delete the
25nssdatabases script since it's just duplicating the functionality of the
provided script, and isn't up to date. If you need to retain the script
for supporting older schroot versions, please copy the comment stripping
code from 20nssdatabases.

The exactly same configuration used to work prior to the upgrade to
 the squeeze schroot version.

It would continue to work now (the schroot configuration itself is
completely forward compatible by intent and design). The only fatal
error here is that the provided nssdatabases-defaults file now contains
comments and your custom 25nssdatabases script is erroring out on that.

Regards,
Roger

Bug#575551: libavg: FTBFS on mipsel: pycentral debhelper: both directories site-packages and dist-packages exist for python2.6.

2010-05-02 Thread Jakub Wilk

tags 575551 + patch
thanks

* Jakub Wilk jw...@debian.org, 2010-03-21, 11:43:
I'm not entirely sure what is happening here, but I have some clues.
The most important part of diff between mips (good) and mipsel
(failed) builds is:

checking for SWSCALE_LIBS... -lswscale
checking for python version... 2.6
checking for python platform... linux2
-checking for python script directory... ${prefix}/lib/python2.6/site-packages
-checking for python extension module directory...
${exec_prefix}/lib/python2.6/site-packages
+checking for python script directory... ${prefix}/lib/python2.6/dist-packages
+checking for python extension module directory...
${exec_prefix}/lib/python2.6/dist-packages
checking for headers required to compile python extensions... found
checking for libpython2.6... found
checking whether the compiler implements namespaces... yes

(I don't known where does this difference come from. But, oh well,
running aclocal and company at build time is always a risky
business.)

Normally it doesn't matter that much if you install files to
pyhton2.6/site-packages or python2.6/dist-packages, as python-central
will move the former one to the latter anyway.

However, in your debian/rules you also install files directly into
python2.6/site-packages, and python-central is confused if there are
files in both directories.

I attached a revised patch.

Bug#576683: [patch]: xpdf-utils: upgrade error trying to overwrite '/usr/bin/pdftoppm'

2010-05-02 Thread Hideki Yamane
Hi,

The upgrade of xpdf-utils package failed:
 | Preparing to replace xpdf-utils 3.02-1.4+lenny1 (using
 .../xpdf-utils_3.02-2_i386.deb) ...
 | Unpacking replacement xpdf-utils ...
 | dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/xpdf-utils_3.02-2_i386.deb
 (--unpack):
 | trying to overwrite '/usr/bin/pdftoppm', which is also in package
 xpdf-reader 0:3.02-1.4+lenny1
 | dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)

It seems that change in #558020 cause this problem, but revert brings that
back.
So we need to add more change to xpdf package as attached patch.

Please check and apply it, thanks.

Hi,
the following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities Exposures) id was
published for network-manager-applet:

CVE-2009-0365[1]:
The dbus request handler in (1) network-manager-applet and (2)
NetworkManager in Ubuntu 6.06 LTS, 7.10, 8.04 LTS, and 8.10 does not
properly verify privileges, which allows local users to discover (a)
network connection passwords and (b) pre-shared keys via unspecified
queries.

CVE-2009-0578[2]:
network-manager-applet in Ubuntu 8.10 does not properly verify
privileges for dbus (1) modify and (2) delete requests, which allows
local users to change or remove the network connections of arbitrary
users via unspecified vectors.

These are already fixed in unstable, but I guess this should be fixed in
stable as well.

I'm aiming to get Xapian 1.2 into the next Debian stable release, so I've

Notmuch fails to build with libxapian-dev 1.2.0-2:

Possibly a regression in libparted for sparc disklabel. Please send the
partman.log and also the output of 'fdisk -l' for that disk.

Attempt to mount /dev/sdb2 as / on /target fails with invalid
argument (see second attached screenshot). My guess is that it
happens because mount gets an argument -t ext3, while the partition is
ext4, and mounts fine from the shell if I do not specify a type
argument. Perhaps, mke2fs default has changed without installer being
  aware of it?

Not sure about this. Could also be related to the first issue.

How exactly did you partition the disk? The first screenshot shows sdb2 as
 ext3, not as ext4.

I've zeroed the beginning of the disk, then used guided partitioning
for the entire disk, asking for /home to be on a separate partition.
You are right, all messages in partman implied that partition is ext3,
yet /proc/mounts showed it as ext4 when I mounted it manually from the
shell.

I'll try to get the logs and fdisk output after partitioning.

 I get:
 $ getconf ARG_MAX
 2097152

Which is just the same as in my laptop. Then I can't understand why
OpenJDK builds finely on it, but doesn't on buildd. I'll have a few more
experiments this night.

Anyway, thanks for the info.

Giovanni.

You have to remove a bit of environment from it. It really differes
only a few bytes. And then of course the directory names could be
choose a bit shorter. See e.g.
http://www.in-ulm.de/~mascheck/various/argmax/

Anyways, I really think the build system shouldn't even get near that
limit, or something is seriously broken.

 /dev/sdb5 6144 8864 21848064 83 Linux native

Right. So the free space shown in partman *is* really there (although it
shouldn't be). And sdb2 is completely wrong as it's way too small for a
root fs.

I think this may be the result of new partition alignment code in parted.
The error is certainly in libparted as the log shows the following.

Creation of first partition (100MB for /boot; looks OK):
/bin/perform_recipe: IN: NEW_PARTITION =dev=sdb primary ext2
 0-72908881919 beginning 10001
parted_server: OUT: 1 0-99614719 99614720primary ext2
/dev/sdb1

Creation of second partition (7GB for /):
/bin/perform_recipe: IN: NEW_PARTITION =dev=sdb primary ext3
 99614720-72908881919 beginning 71
parted_server: OUT: 2 16845373440-16846422015 1048576 primary ext3
/dev/sdb2

So partman requests a partition of 7GB, but libparted creates one of
1MB. Looks broken to me.

The swap partition has the same problem: partman requests ~2GB, but we
get only 1MB.

Here's the fdisk output and illustration of the mounting error:

 ~ # mount -t ext3 /dev/sdb2 /target/
mount: mounting /dev/sdb2 on /target/ failed: Invalid argument

This is a consequence of the error above. The syslog shows:
May 2 17:12:42 partman: mke2fs 1.41.11 (14-Mar-2010)
May 2 17:12:42 partman: Filesystem too small for a journal

So, the FS is too small for a journal and therefore not a valid ext3
filesystem. But apparently ext4 is able to mount it (and you should
also be able to mount it as ext2).

Bug#562398: anna: fails if multiple versions of a udeb in Packages file

The exit code of anna was 8, which matches an error during unpack or
 configure.

I've run into this with a custom installer suite with udebs overriding
those in lenny's main/debian-installer. My solution at the time was
just to filter the Packages file in net-retriever so that anna was only
given one version of any particular package. (Ubuntu did something
similar, see [1].) However, it should probably be fixed in anna or
libdebian-installer itself. :)

Specifically, what happens is that anna unpacks all the packages in one
batch, and then it configures all of them. But while unpacking another
version of a package while another vesrion is in an
unpacked-but-not-configured state is ok, it's not ok to configure a
package that's already in the configured state. So if a package is in
the list twice, it fails at the second configure for that package.

I'm trying to better understand anna and libd-i to come up with a
suitable patch...

Bug#579993: gnome-do fails to launch, with an error claiming the gtk-sharp 2.12.0.0 assembly could not be loaded

2010-05-02 Thread Eddahbi Karim
Package: gnome-do
Version: 0.8.3.1+dfsg-1
Severity: grave

Justification: renders package unusable

I'm unable to launch Gnome-do on my Sid system. This problem isn't new but I
first thought that this was a temporary problem, due to the nature of the
unstable branch. The error message is : --- ** (/usr/lib/gnome-

This package's m4/python_dev.m4 script improperly refers to Python's
LOCALMODLIBS which contains a link reference to -lssl (and other libs):

  py_localmodlibs=`sed -n -e 's/^LOCALMODLIBS=\(.*\)/\1/p' $py_makefile`

libavg does not build-depend on libssl-dev (nor should it as it does not
actually need to link with -lssl) so that library is not installed and
therefore causes libavg to FTB when $py_localmodlibs tries to link with it
anyway.

-

[Matthias Klose]
libavg must not link with LOCALMODLIBS (this is the list of libs which the
python executable must be linked with, not arbitrary extensions).

-

Attached debdiff adds quilt patch - debian/patches/no_py_localmodlibs.diff -
which comments out the line referencing of python's LOCALMODLIBS from the
configure script and its source m4 file.

With this patch in place, libavg's binaries no longer try to link with -lssl
and the package builds successfully.

I don't know if it is normal that the program asks for plugins each time, in
the old version it was not like this.

I have similar problems with Scidavis, I suspect qt4 libraries conflicts.

Your package failed to build from source on ia64.
The following is the tail of the build log:
