2010-05-07 Thread Steve M. Robbins
There are two issues described by this bug.

1. build-depends on default-jdk >= 1.6-34
2. FTBFS on many architectures

Issue 1 was fixed in upload 3.18.0-2. The second issue
may be a bug in gccxml [1]. Awaiting response from
gccxml team.

Bug#580728: bristol: FTBFS on kfreebsd-i386: error: conflicting types for 'ftell'

2010-05-07 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Source: bristol
Version: 0.60.2-1
Severity: serious
Justification: FTBFS
User: debian-...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: kfreebsd

Hi,

your package FTBFS on kfreebsd-i386:
| libtool: compile:  gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I.. -I/usr/X11R6/include
-pthread -Wall -g -I./../include/slab -I./../include/bristol
-DBRISTOL_HAS_OSS=1 -D_BRISTOL_DRAIN -DBRISTOL_HAS_ALSA=0 -D_BRISTOL_JACK
-D_BRISTOL_JACK_MIDI -g -O2 -I/usr/X11R6/include -c audioNetClient.c  -fPIC
-DPIC -o .libs/audioNetClient.o
| In file included from audioNetClient.c:50:
| ./../include/slab/socketToolKit.h:81: error: conflicting types for 'ftell'
| /usr/include/stdio.h:727: note: previous declaration of 'ftell' was here
| make[3]: *** [audioNetClient.lo] Error 1

Full build logs:
  https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=bristol

Just for the record, some header dig-up follows.

system's stdio.h:
| extern long int ftell (FILE *__stream) __wur;

package's socketToolKit.h:
| off_t ftell(), tell();

which AFAICT, after some defines boils down to:
| /usr/include/machine-i386/_types.h:typedeflong long
__int64_t;
| /usr/include/machine-amd64/_types.h:typedef   long
__int64_t;

which would explain why it builds on kfreebsd-amd64 but not on
kfreebsd-i386.

KiBi.

Hi Jens,

Debian is getting close to a stable release and this bug is
release-critical, meaning it has to be fixed. Do you recall where we
are at? Should the next release of XForms fix this bug? Have you
bumped the soname?

Not really. There are really just three function definitions, and a few
constants; I've made a file that follows the spec for the function
definitions ("unsigned char" instead of "char") and can be included from
C++ code inside a namespace.

It would if it had passed through NEW because the next step afterwards was
to upload the amd64 build of the same package, but now the kernel ABI has
changed, so we need a new upload. That will probably happen after a new
version of nvidia-graphics-drivers at this point.

Bug#580710: linux-base: elilo needs simpler assignments

2010-05-07 Thread dann frazier
Source: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-12
Severity: serious
Tags: patch

/usr/sbin/elilo didn't like the converted elilo.conf because it
doesn't support quoted strings, or spaces around '='.

Instead of:
  boot = "/dev/disk/by-uuid/9C73-E0C3"
it needs:
  boot=/dev/disk/by-uuid/9C73-E0C3

The following patch fixes it, but it is pretty ugly. I would've
preferred to use the line that is commented out, but when I do I get
an extraneous newline both before and after the newly inserted line.
I assume this is due to how things are tokenized (I'm not enough of a
perl guy to grok it).

Also, it has a cosmetic issue where we lose the tab indention in stanzas.
We go from this:

image=/vmlinuz.old
label=LinuxOLD
root=/dev/sda2
read-only
initrd=/initrd.img.old

To this:

image=/vmlinuz.old
label=LinuxOLD
# root=/dev/sda2
root=UUID=170d52c1-c568-4bad-aass-be4248ad1af4
read-only
initrd=/initrd.img.old

(Now to reboot, to make sure it actually works...)

Ok, let's try (with libmpg123-0 1.12.1-1):

Package: gmameui
Version: 0.2.11-2
Severity: serious
Usertags: implicit-pointer-conversion

Our automated buildd log filter[1] detected a problem that is likely to
cause your package to segfault on architectures where the size of a
pointer is greater than the size of an integer, such as ia64 and amd64.

 Function `read_pixbuf_from_zip_file' implicitly converted to pointer at
gui.c:407

This is often due to a missing function prototype definition.
For more information, see [2].

Though it is guaranteed that this codepath will cause a segfault on certain
architectures, it is not guaranteed that this codepath would ever be executed
(e.g., if the returned pointer is never dereferenced). However, this bug
does prevent the ia64 buildd from successfully building this package, resulting
in a practical FTBFS issue and warranting the serious severity.

Hi,

automatic installation tests of packages that share a file and at the
same time do not conflict by their package dependency relationships has
detected the following problem:

This is a serious bug as it makes installation fail, and violates
sections 7.6.1 and 10.1 of the policy. An optimal solution would
consist in only one of the packages installing that file, and renaming
or removing the file in the other package. Depending on the
circumstances you might also consider Replace relations or file
diversions. If the conflicting situation cannot be resolved then, as a
last resort, the two packages have to declare a mutual
Conflict. Please take into account that Replaces, Conflicts and
diversions should only be used when packages provide different
implementations for the same functionality.

Here is a list of files that are known to be shared by both packages
(according to the Contents file for sid/amd64, which may be
slightly out of sync):

  /usr/share/man/man1/macutil.1.gz

This bug is assigned to both packages. If you, the maintainers of
the two packages in question, have agreed on which of the packages will
resolve the problem please reassign the bug to that package.

-Ralf.

Bug#580095: libmpg123-0: *** glibc detected *** /usr/bin: free(): invalid pointer: 0xb7c29098 ***

2010-05-07 Thread Thomas Orgis
Hi, this is mpg123 upstream.

I asked for some confirmation of the confinedness of the issue to the ALSA
output on
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=2996045&group_id=135704&atid=733194
 ...

Actually, this concerns both issues: The crash and the high CPU usage. Can you
try another output module for mpg123? Like, mpg123 -o oss, mpg123 -o portaudio,
mpg123 -o sdl ... there are some to choose from. If these don't show any of
the issues, we can be more sure to search for something in the ALSA library.
What makes me wonder, though, is that you "fix" this by downgrading libmpg123?!
The basic ALSA usage didn't change... I suspect some subtle bug that is always
present but only shows more quickly under some circumstances.

Alrighty then,

Thomas.

There were more than one show-stopping bug reported in Ubuntu that are
fixed in the upcoming version 2.3-2.

Chris, I have prepared debian/changelog and tagged the release. Please

Thanks for the reupload. Unfortunately I now learned that this version
of ctapi.h is completely different from the one in ctapi-mkt package[1].
Could you both (Simon, Claudia) please either find a way to settle with
a common interface. I have no idea about chipcards but I would really
welcome if you might be able to sort this out together.

Kind regards

It looks just like #580626. Does installing libgail-common fix your
problem?

This looks like a missing dependency in at-spi. Does it work better if
you remove both at-spi and libgail-common?

Given the number of people who use cowbuilder I think this bug would have
seen more activity if it was really not working for them.

Furthermore the message seems to imply an error like a fork() that failed
and this is usually a local problem (no memory left) and not a programming
error.

Last, if this is really reproducible, then it's probably only a bad
interaction between svn-buildpackage and cowdancer and nothing that makes
cowdancer completely unfit for release.

Given all this, I downgrade this bug to important. (But it would still be
nice to have a response of the maintainer instead of letting the bug
rot in the BTS)

Cheers,

The control file lists the architecture as any. This is not correct.

You are not the maintainer of this package and P-a-s is a secondary

Bug#580680: enchant: should this package be orphaned?

2010-05-07 Thread Raphael Geissert
Source: enchant
Severity: serious

Hi,

Enchant hasn't seen any maintainer upload for almost two years now, with 6
NMUs in a row.

Since there are important bugs that should be addressed and even newer
versions of the library, you should consider either addressing the issues or
orphaning the package.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. failure to respond in a reasonable amount of time (two weeks) would mean
you are no longer interested and that I should go ahead and orphan it.

Regards,

Using "-D" is not a good idea. Also your -i options are not correctly
used, please check the manual page, only the last one is used.

The control file says:
Architecture: i386

So it's normal that it doesn't work on non-i386. Closing the bug.

Not building on some architectures is not always a bug, it just means
the package might need to be added to P-a-s.

Package: gcj-jre-headless
Version: 4:4.4.2-3
Severity: serious

Hi,

on all arches we currently have:

LC_ALL=C apt-get -c apt.conf install java-gcj-compat-headless gij
gcj-jre-headless
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  gcj-jre-headless: Conflicts: java-gcj-compat-headless (< 1.0.80-6)
E: Broken packages

this is due to the fact that the current version of gcj-jre-headless
Conflicts: gij (<< 4:4.4.0-2), java-gcj-compat-headless (<< 1.0.80-6)
but the source package of java-gcj-compat-headless (java-gcj-compat)
has only version 1.0.80-5.1.

This currently also blocks the build of subversion on sparc, making
some packages uninstallable and will make the rebuilds for python2.6
harder.

Cheers,
Andi

You filed the bug http://bugs.debian.org/566514 in Debian BTS
against the package java-gcj-compat. I'm closing it at *unstable*, but it will
remain open for older distributions.

For more information about this package's removal, read
http://bugs.debian.org/577265. That bug might give the reasons why
this package was removed and suggestions of possible replacements.

Don't hesitate to reply to this mail if you have any question.

Thank you for your contribution to Debian.

please provide more information about your setup, the used versions,
etc. do you use evms? does evms have a initramfs hook which installes
the evms binary into the initramfs? what is the exact output of
'update-initramfs -u'?

and please attach initramfs.log after executing 'sh -x mkinitramfs -o

Package: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
Version: 1:0.0.15+git20100329+7858345-3
Severity: serious

This package needs the nouveau.ko kernel module which is not available
in Squeeze kernels. It must not migrate to testing until a suitable
linux-2.6 (and preferably linux-latest-2.6) version is in place.

The sid kernel now autoloads nouveau.ko, so I've added
xserver-xorg-video-nouveau to xserver-xorg-video-all, and the next
upload of xorg-server will also load nouveau_drv.so for nvidia hardware.
I think having the X driver in testing before the kernel is best for
this transition, so closing this bug.

Bug#561889: otrs2: missing dependency on libapache2-mod-perl2

Version: 2.4.6-2

Hi,

I'm reopening this bug.

Otrs2 package is depending against "libapache2-reload-perl | httpd-cgi"
and unconditionally do "a2enmod perl". If libapache2-mod-perl2 is not
installed this will make the postinstall script return 1.

Best regards

Laurent Bigonville

Ehm, 2.4.7-3 is in unstable and testing.

libapache2-reload-perl has got a dependencie on the apache perl module
and setup_apache is only executed, if a2enmod is available:

  if [ -x /usr/sbin/a2enmod ]; then
  setup_apache

Hello,

Your package ships a Python module under name ‘json’. Unfortunately,
starting with Python 2.6, there is also a standard library module with
the very same name but with a different API. That means that your module
is not importable from python2.6.

Please either request removal of your package, or rename the module:
please consult with json-py upstream whichever is better.

Package: bzr-svn
Version: 0.4.10-2
Severity: critical
Justification: data loss

Using version 0.4.10-2 of this plugin to push commits from Bazaar to SVN
resulted in severe data loss. Corrupted data spread to a number of branches
in our repository, as well as ~/.bazaar/svn-cache, forcing us to re-generate
the whole repository almost from scratch.

I believe this is only a problem with 0.4.10, and perhaps only associated with
pushing (and not with pulling).

I strongly recommend that the 0.4.10 version is removed from Lenny, maybe by
replacing it with a newer upstream release, or otherwise completely removing
it so that Lenny users will upgrade to the version in Backports.

Or, with the assumption that this problem only affects push operations, push
support could be disabled in the Lenny version.

More details available at:

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/bzr/+bug/462988

I keep a complete copy of the old repository (both local and remote), as
well as my svn-cache dir, in case you need further information.

I recently reinstalled Debian/Squeeze from scratch (kept my /home

was no longer able to connect to my virtual machine (a Windows XP
raw virtual disk). When I try to connect to qemu, I get the above
error which I was not getting before the new Squeeze install. I
can't find any fix for it via Google (just lots of people
experiencing the problem) and I'm a bit of newbie at virtualization.
Qemu-kvm is able to directly launch my virtual machine and it runs
fine, but after using virt-manager to manage the sessions, I find it
preferrable (better mouse handling, doesn't kill the KDE
screensaver, etc.).

Please see:

I would rather say it's a little bit more complicated than that. From
what I understand :

by default, the personality is PER_LINUX_32BIT on eabi (and PER_LINUX on
oabi [1]), but :

- on arm < v6, there's no xn/nx which means that READ_IMPLIES_EXEC will be
  set. So personality(0x) gives 0x00c0
- on arm >= v6, there's xn/nx so READ_IMPLIES_EXEC will not be set and then
  personality(0x) gives 0x0080

It was giving 0x0080 on all systems before because it was
broken. It has been fixed in the kernel with commit :
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=9da616fb9946c8d65387052e5a538b8f54ddb292

Arnaud

[1] I can't check on oabi right now but I would be surprised to be wrong
here.

You could at least ask upstream for a patch and/or a timeline for a new
version that fixes this issue ?

I put Robey on copy, hopefully he can comment on the issue. I saw nothing
about this incompatibility on https://bugs.launchpad.net/paramiko and no
recent & relevant commits on http://github.com/robey/paramiko/.

Robey, see http://bugs.debian.org/576697 for the full bug report.

2010-05-07 Thread Raphael Hertzog
Hi,

I think the issue has been open for long enough without clear consensus.
Hence all packages should rename their /usr/bin/pip to something else and
document the difference vs upstream in README.Debian.

BTW, finding new names is hard, but choosing a 3 letter acronym is a
recipe for problems...

Please take care to coordinate with other depending packages if needed
(virtualenv for python-pip?).

Cheers,

The former. It's a simple conffile. The comment ist just because we use the
upstream config file verbatim
So, downgrading to a more appropriate severity.

2010-05-07 Thread The Anarcat

I still see this problem here right now, from time to time. It's pretty
hard to reproduce, I'd say one out of 10 times I see this behaviour.

(Note that I had to produce a package with debugging symbols to have
this, but that's another story.)

Note how "from=0x0", a null pointer. I am unsure how that is generated.
That signal is emmitted from src/core/stanzas.c:78:

from = xmpp_recode_in(lm_message_node_get_attribute(lmsg->node, "from"));
to = xmpp_recode_in(lm_message_node_get_attribute(lmsg->node, "to"));
switch(lm_message_get_type(lmsg)) {
case LM_MESSAGE_TYPE_MESSAGE:
signal_emit("xmpp recv message", 6,
server, lmsg, type, id, from, to);
break;
case LM_MESSAGE_TYPE_PRESENCE:
signal_emit("xmpp recv presence", 6,
server, lmsg, type, id, from, to);
break;
case LM_MESSAGE_TYPE_IQ:
signal_emit("xmpp recv iq", 6,
server, lmsg, type, id, from, to);
break;

... which means that xmpp_recode_in() or lm_message_node_get_attribute()
returns null, which may be the behavior to fix in the first place.

In the meantime, I have a patch to workaround the issue that I'm
currently testing, in attachment.

Package: quassel-client
Version: 0.5.1-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

When I install quassel-client from Debian sid and run it on

It seems to be segfaulting. Do you have any suggestions?

Does it work for others? If so, maybe there's something environmental
on my system it's allergic to, and we can get a fix upstreamed.

(I'm happy to let the maintainer or other Quassel developers log in to my
machine
to try things.)

To avoid a messy confusion and as there is only one package left which

Package: insighttoolkit
Version: 3.18.0-1
Severity: serious

insighttoolkit 3.18 was uploaded without coordination with the release
team, while introducing a new library transition.

There are a few problems with that:
- igstk is a reverse dependency of both insighttoolkit and vtk, which
  means that now we have entangled transitions, which means it's going
  to be even more difficult to get those packages and their dependencies
  in squeeze
- new insighttoolkit FTBFS on many architectures, see
  https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=insighttoolkit
- new insighttoolkit build-depends on default-jdk >= 1.6-34, while 3
  architectures have 1.5-36, which means it's not going to get built
  there

Please fix these issues ASAP, and consider not doing it again.

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#571255: Please fix this

It would be great if you could work towards such a fix... for example by
asking the apt developers if there's any other way to detect that a
package is planned for installation.

Dear APT developers, the udev preinst tries to detect if a newer kernel is
going to be installed by analyzing the dpkg command line. Unfortunately
the kernel package can be installed by APT in a different dpkg run
than the one where udev is installed and thus not be aware of the
planned installation.

Is there a (reliable) way for udev's preinst to check if a new kernel is
being installed?

Cheers,

Bug#561889: otrs2: missing dependency on libapache2-mod-perl2

2010-05-07 Thread Laurent Bigonville
Version: 2.4.6-2

Hi,

I'm reopening this bug.

Otrs2 package is depending against "libapache2-reload-perl | httpd-cgi"
and unconditionally do "a2enmod perl". If libapache2-mod-perl2 is not
installed this will make the postinstall script return 1.

Best regards

Laurent Bigonville

Package: src:jack-audio-connection-kit
Version: 1.9.5~dfsg-9
Severity: serious

Hi,

Unfortunately, j-a-c-k is still failing to build on armel. -9 has been
tried three times, two of which resulted in an "illegal instruction"
stopping the build; the other gave:

../dbus/sigsegv.c: In function 'signal_segv':
../dbus/sigsegv.c:107: error: 'mcontext_t' has no member named 'gregs'

The full log is at
https://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?&pkg=jack-audio-connection-kit&ver=1.9.5%7Edfsg-9&arch=armel&stamp=1273173146&file=log

fwiw, the HPPA build has also been tried several times yet with no
success, but I'm not entirely sure whether those are package or buildd
issues.

Regards,

Adam
