But after rebooting, my KDE desktop is totally messed up. Only the binary clock widget was showing, with the rest of them as red X boxes. The run dialog appears when I press its key, but actually trying to run things with it does not work. I can still start programs from a TTY, and Qt-based programs have no issues. I'm typing this in Konsole. Window management features seem to be working fine too, including virtual desktops, compositing, window specific settings, etc. I've tried moving ~/.kde out of the way, and logging in again, but the fresh config still had the problem. Unstable is pinned to allow chromium-browser to be installed only. I also use debian-multimedia, if that's important. Bug#585666: feh: FTBFS: Relies on writable home directory?
Hi, I'm the feh upstream. On Sat, Jun 12, 2010 at 11:50:39PM +0200, Cyril Brulebois wrote: it looks like feh FTBFS when the home directory is missing or write-protected: [...] Being unable to deal with .fehrc seems to lead to extra messages, breaking the comparison with the reference strings. I have fixed this issue (or at least I think I did) in feh 1.7, which should reach the Debian repositories some time soon - I've already notified the maintainer of the new release and the fixed test cases. [ BTW, looks like you could run some more tests: Can't exec mandoc: No such file or directory at test/mandoc.t line 8. test/mandoc.t .. ok ] I use mandoc to test if the documentation is valid. However, since there is no Debian package for mandoc, the test is skipped if it cannot execute mandoc. In that case, the above error message is produced, but it does not mean test failure. This should be clearer in feh 1.7 thanks to an extra diagnostic message. --derf signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#558784: Isn't this a security problem?
2010/6/12 Torsten Landschoff t.landsch...@gmx.net: I would consider this to be a critical issue as it could become a security problem. Let's assume an archive key is compromised. As an admin reading this on some information channel (irc, twitter, lwn.net, whatever) I would just remove the key as shown by Tollef. Only by reading this bug report I do know now that this plainly would not work. Instead apt-key will reenable this key given any chance. Not at any chance and for any key: It will do so only for the debian-archive-keyring AND only on update for the package apt and/or debian-archive-keyring. (with complete gpg import output in the log btw) If the debian-archive-keyring is ever compromised the attacker has the possibility to provide different apt/debian-archive-keyring packages anyway so you better not upgrade as long as the archive doesn't have a new key (which you have validated and installed manually) -- and in this event the debian-archive-keyring package will be one of the first packages updated in the archive (removing the old, installing the new key - just to be sure and for all the users which haven't done it manually…). Other keyring packages normally add themselves to the database on an install/upgrade of these packages automatically - if you don't want that what is the point of installing these keyring packages? So, does this bug still apply? Still applies as the fragments file infrastructure is not used so far. As said earlier i intend to promote that a bit after squeeze release to have a smoother transition (keyrings are normally without a problem backportable between different releases - breaking that feels a bit ugly.) The difference is not big through. Instead of calling apt-key or doing some manual gpg calling a package drops a file into /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/ The file is still binary so manual editing is not a good idea (TM) but at least someone who really wants to remove keys from a keyring file will get the benefits of dpkgs conffile handling - in terms of that he will notice that you have changed something, not so much that you can easily see what was changed… But, and that is what should help in this regard a bit is, that most keyrings are actually just one key, so the action can be broken down to a removed config file instead… This just need support by the maintainer of the keyring, so the debian-archive-keyring could e.g. be split into debian-lenny.gpg, debian-squeeze.gpg, debian-next-big-thing.gpg and so on. You might ask why binary? now, but APT internally uses gpgv for the validation which only understands binaries and not the ascii-amored stuff. (gpg is only used to import keyrings into the trusted keyring by the keyrings - if we switch to fragment files the gpg is no longer needed…) Best regards, David Kalnischkies -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#580224: libparted0-udeb: not installable on kfreebsd-*, depends on libgeom0

Bug#579948: Some debugging info
[Background for parted-devel: the Debian installer is using optimal alignment by default now. However, on Sun labels, this produces crazy start alignments: the user asked for a partition starting at around 10MB, and got one starting at around 16.8GB.] On Mon, Jun 07, 2010 at 03:41:34PM +0100, Jurij Smakov wrote: 1. ped_disk_add_partition() is called to add the partition. The constraint which is passed to it is computed in ped_device_get_optimum_alignment(): /* Align to a grain of 1MiB (like vista / win7) */ align = ped_alignment_new(0, 1048576 / dev-sector_size); As dev-sector_size is 512, we end up with alignment of offset 0 and grain_size 2048, and the resulting constraint passed to ped_disk_add_partition() has start_align set to {offset = 0; grain_size=2048} and end_align set to {offset = 2047, grain_size = 2048). That looks normal. 2. _partition_align() is called to align the partition with this constraint. This simply calls the disk-specific partition_align function, in this case sun_partition_align(). 3. In sun_partition_align: disk_specific-cylinder_alignment is set to 1, so the final alignment will be an intersection of our initial constraint and _get_strict_constraint(part-disk). disk_specific-cylinder_alignment is set to 0 by parted_server's set_disk_named function, which turns off the PED_DISK_CYLINDER_ALIGNMENT flag. You should be going through _get_lax_constraint, not _get_strict_constraint. 4. In _get_strict_constraint() the alignment is determined by a product of dev-bios_geom.sectors and dev-bios_geom.heads. In my case the former is 63 and the latter is 255, so the resulting strict alignment will enforce partition alignment to 63 * 255 = 16065 sectors. 5. An intersection of two constraints, one aligning to 2048 and another aligning to 16065 sectors, is computed. The least common multiple of those two happens to be their product, so a combined constraint ends up to be forcing the alignment to 2048 * 16065 = 32901120 sectors, or 16.8G (!). Looking at the debugging dump, the second partition during my install was placed at 16845373440, which is exactly 2048 * 16065 * 512, which confirms the alignment issue. _get_lax_constraint still aligns the *start* position to sectors * heads, though. That would explain why you have a sensible end alignment on the first partition, but a silly start alignment on the second. parted-devel, can anyone comment on this? It seems to me that either (a) _get_lax_constraint should be using ped_alignment_any for its start alignment, rather than aligning to sectors * heads boundaries, or (b) Sun labels really and truly require cylinder alignment, in which case requests to use optimal alignment shouldn't be honoured. Based on the fact that there seems to be some effort here to support non-cylinder alignment, I'm guessing that (a) is closer to the real situation, but I don't know these systems very well. Bug#584755: (no subject)
For some other images, part of the comment (the Place: tag) gets into the UI as accessed through the Metadata button in the toolbar, but some of the comment (the Description: tag) is only visible in the IPTC information under Caption (bottom right of the main UI of 2.11). Investigating this more, the XML file in the comment directory suffers silent data loss, although the information can be found in the Exif IPTC data fields. These IPTC fields only show up in gthumb 2.11's exif properties listing, and not the Metadata user-interface and so they are 1) not really visible and 2) (I believe) not editable from within gthumb. Here is an example XML file in the .comment directory in =2.10 format and what it was converted into (silently). I've replaced some sensitive information, identically in each listing below: Original (line breaks probably muddled by email): ?xml version=1.0? The messages on the conole are: LILO 22.8 Loading Linux Initial ramdisk loads below 4Mb; kernel overwrite is possible. . BIOS data check successful nothing more The update made the initramfs slightly larger. After removing the plymouth from the initramfs cutting its size down from 12Mb to about 8Mb the system boots again as expected (I also made shure it's not plymouth that breaks the boot by dropping splash from the kernel command line). I'm afraid I don't understand Aurelien's mail. The current version (as far as I'm aware) of the parted FreeBSD patch entirely relies on libgeom. Bug#585068: Which partitioning schemes should be supported by GRUB?

We do still need grub_install_dos_part and grub_install_bsd_part for the multiboot trampoline, which is in assembly, so it's difficult to abandon them altogether. However, there's no reason we need to use them in make_install_device. How about we invent a way to encode most of the information in string form in grub_prefix, while leaving a placeholder for make_install_device to fill in the disk? There are 64 bytes available for grub_prefix, which should be plenty. For example, how about the following (with \0 standing for ASCII NUL): (\0,msdos1,bsd1)/boot/grub It's then just a matter of spotting the (\0, sequence and replacing the \0 with the drive name. I think this can probably be done using less code than the first option above, and all told it feels a bit less hacky to me. Instead of doing string replacement, why not just define a disk-relative partition format? Simple string replacement would be much easier to implement, and probably smaller. Plus, we don't need disk-relative device naming elsewhere, and I think it would require putting platform-specific code (otherwise how do you know which disk to be relative to?) in places that are otherwise pretty platform-independent. Also, the '\0' seems unnecessary. Is having (, meaningful in some way already? Good point. This would be sufficient. How about the following patch, implementing this proposal? I've tested this with Debian GNU/kFreeBSD, and it's enough to make the boot loader work again out of the box after grub-install. The 'root' variable is still wrong, but that isn't particularly urgent as UUIDs usually take care of that. The kernel.img size increase is 84 bytes, yielding a core.img size increase of 50 bytes in this configuration (22932 - 22982 bytes). Do I need to work on making that smaller somehow? Bug#585888: Proposed-RM: libconfig-ini-mvp-perl -- RoM: uninstallable, in part replaced by libconfig-mvp-reader-ini-perl
Package: libconfig-ini-mvp-perl Version: 0.024-1 Severity: serious Hi, libconfig-ini-mvp-perl has been packaged as a dependency of libdist-zilla-perl [1][2], but that part has moved to a separate package (libconfig-mvp-reader-ini-perl). The reason to package it in the first place is thus gone. In addition the latest update of libconfig-mvp-perl has made libconfig-ini-mvp-perl uninstallable [3]. To make it installable again, the part that was moved to a different package upstream would have to be removed (which has not happened upstream yet). As there are no r-deps and the installation count reported by popcon is also quite low (it was likely only installed as a dependency anyway), I propose to remove this package. If there are no objections, I will reassign this bug to the FTP team after a while. Bug#539813: RFS: nautilus-clamscan RC bug
The attached debdiff fixes the RC bug (BTS #539813) against nautilus-clamscan as well as all other bugs against the package. nautilus-clamscan (0.2.2-2.1) unstable; urgency=low * Non-maintainer upload. * debian/watch: Fix broken watch file. (Closes: #550765) * debian/control: - Add missing misc:Depends. - Don't depend on clamav directly. (Closes: #529186) * debian/nautilus-clamscan.install: - Install to correct nautilus extensions directory. (Closes: #539813). * debian/source/format: Declare package as 1.0 format. I'd appreciate if someone would sponsor this upload. Perhaps to Delayed? The bug itself is almost a year old, but it was only promoted to grave a few days ago. If not, I'll probably have to do an upload that annotates this code with obnoxious amounts of logging :( There's a porter-box - zelenka.debian.org Did you have any luck in debugging this? I've been having a poke at this issue on zelenka. My hunch from Daniel's simplified code was it was likely to be either an optimisation bug or invalid code which happens to work on other platforms, so I tried with DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=noopt, which worked, and then with CXXFLAGS=-g -O1 which also worked. Then I took the list of differences between -O1 and -O2 and tried different combinations until I eventually found that it works with: CXXFLAGS=-g -O2 -fno-gcse So I think we a pretty reasonable workaround now, and it would be good to solve the FTBFS issue as it's blocking various transitions, so I suggest adding -fno-gcse to CXXFLAGS for s390. I'm happy to NMU an upload with this change if you're too busy. Cheers, Olly signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Hmm, links targetted at multiple tabs work for me. To make sure I understand, could you write up a simple step-by-step reproduction recipe? This doesn't seem to affect an URI clicked on the first time after launching the application. Subsequent attempts do fail however. This is probably not http://bugs.debian.org/581347, then. :( When the above behaviour exhibts itself, upon quitting chromium these tasks continue running gobbling up memory. I've found it necessary to force quite via htop afterwards, each and every time. More debugging hints: Could you try installing chromium-browser-dbg and attaching to some of these processes to get backtraces? By this I mean ; gdb -p $pid ; bt It would be most convenient to send this additional information directly to http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/entry?template=Defect%20on%20Linux and send a link so continued work can happen through on the upstream bug tracker. Bug#579948: [parted-devel] Some debugging info
On Mon, Jun 14, 2010 at 01:06:09PM +0100, Colin Watson wrote: parted-devel, can anyone comment on this? It seems to me that either (a) _get_lax_constraint should be using ped_alignment_any for its start alignment, rather than aligning to sectors * heads boundaries, or (b) Sun labels really and truly require cylinder alignment, in which case requests to use optimal alignment shouldn't be honoured. The begin of the partition has to be defined in cylinders: struct __attribute__ ((packed)) _SunRawPartition { u_int32_t start_cylinder; /* where the part starts... */ u_int32_t num_sectors;/* ...and it's length */ }; IMHO it does not make sense to use non-cylinder alignment here. Bug#585921: evolution: Evolution unusable after upgrading to 2.30 due to reliable segfaults
Package: evolution Version: 2.30.1.2-3 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable After upgrading to evolution 2.30.x, I have been completely unable to use it as my mail client. It starts up, and begins fetching and sync-ing my mail. After finishing the sync, it *always* segfaults. I filed a bug upstream (with backtrace) and the maintainer said that the trace looked to him like an ABI mismatch issue (possibly due to debian packaging?). Bug#583692: Do both crashes have the same cause ?
Hello, I can't help noticing that both crash reports crash in the GC thread, with similar values of the target address. I'm wondering if these two crashes could be related to each other and if they don't imply that something is wrong on the freecol side ? This really shouldn't be the case as segfaults are not expected as a result of a wrong Java code (but potentially JNI code). That's weird. Bug#585921: [Evolution] Bug#585921: evolution: Evolution unusable after upgrading to 2.30 due to reliable segfaults
retitle 585921 segfault in mail_shell_backend_sync_store_cb() (largefile support?) forwarded 585921 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=619098 thanks On lun., 2010-06-14 at 16:29 -0500, Jonathon Jongsma wrote: Package: evolution Version: 2.30.1.2-3 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable After upgrading to evolution 2.30.x, I have been completely unable to use it as my mail client. It starts up, and begins fetching and sync-ing my mail. After finishing the sync, it *always* segfaults. I filed a bug upstream (with backtrace) and the maintainer said that the trace looked to him like an ABI mismatch issue (possibly due to debian packaging?). See https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=619098 for more information. Thanks for the report. As said upstream, I'm not sure if it's related to largefile support, and even if it is, it should be fixed, not disabled (thought disabling might be a temporary workaround).
