It looks like geeqie was built on some architectures against broken
libexiv2 (0.19-2). I will trigger rebuild.

I've rebooted it a couple times since yesterday, it seems to work just fine.

Bug#586079: readahead-fedora: Fails to install, if apt-xapian-index installed, but dbus isn't installed

2010-06-16 Thread Alexander Reichle-Schmehl
Package: readahead-fedora
Version: 2:1.5.4-5
Severity: serious

Hi!

readahead-fedora fails to install on my system, which hasn't dbus installed but
apt-xapian-index:

r...@rusalka:~# LANG=C aptitude install readahead-fedora

Setting up readahead-fedora (2:1.5.4-5) ...
find: `/usr/share/dbus-1/services/': No such file or directory
dpkg: error processing readahead-fedora (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 readahead-fedora
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

It seems, that the "if [ -d /usr/share/dbus-1 ]; then" on line 119 of the
postinst script istn't strict enough, as I have:

r...@rusalka:~# dpkg -S /usr/share/dbus-1
apt-xapian-index: /usr/share/dbus-1

But:

r...@rusalka:~# ls /usr/share/dbus-1
system-services

I think something similar could go wrong with the following "find
/etc/dbus-1/system.d/"; while I indeed have that (also shopped by
apt-xapian-index), I think it would be saver to test for the existence of that
directory, too, before trying the find.

Best regards,
  Alexander

Downgrading libexiv2-6 to 0.19-1 does not help, I have to downgrade

md5_utils.[ch] is an implementation of the MD5 algorithm from
RSA Data Security, Inc. This implementation is considered non-free. Here is
some explainations as to why [1] [2].

Attached is a patch that replaces the non-free implementation of the MD5
algorithm with a public domain implementation. This implementation is derived
from the MD5 implementation found in dpkg.

Bug#586086: src:mysql-5.1: FTBFS due to libtool problems

2010-06-16 Thread Toni Mueller

Package: src:mysql-5.1
Version: 5.1.47-1~bpo50+1
Severity: serious
Justification: no longer builds from source

Hi,

I've tried to recompile the package on my Lenny machine, but don't
succeed. Although I have all build dependencies satisfied, I get:

I've just prepared the attached patch. It seems there is not
configuration in /etc anymore but it's possible for the admin to have
one. Thus simply testing for the file and only chmod'ing it if existent.

I didn't see this fixed in your git repository and thus uploaded it to
DELAYED/5. If you want me to push the changes to collab-maint, please
say so.

Hope you're fine with the patch.

Bug#585856: Doesn't boot with large initramfs

2010-06-16 Thread Stephen Powell
Oops! I didn't notice your secondary update until after I had replied.
In your secondary update you state that the large-memory option is
present in your /etc/lilo.conf file. This is further evidence that this
is a duplicate of bug number 505609. lilo did *not* get run after the
kernel update and before the reboot. The error message

Initial ramdisk loads below 4Mb; kernel overwrite is possible.

indicates that lilo loaded the initial RAM file system *below* the 15M
line. It would not have done that if the large-memory option had been
present in /etc/lilo.conf at the time that lilo's map installer was last
run. If it had been, it would have loaded the initial RAM file system above
the 16M line and the above error message would not have been issued.
Exactly when did you add the large-memory option to your /etc/lilo.conf?
Did you add it *before* the kernel-upgrade or *after*? If it was
present *before* the kernel upgrade, then this is proof that lilo did
not get run during the kernel upgrade. If it was added *after* the
kernel upgrade, we still don't know for sure. But if you go back to
your original initial RAM file system and manually run lilo, and
everything works, then we can be sure that this is a duplicate of
505609.

This std::list was introduced with the bugfix for the Nikon
performance problem. It used to be std::vector before. So it looks
like either the Debian exiv2 0.19-3 package didn't undo all of the
changes of 0.19-2 (check the typedef for ExifMetadata in exif.hpp) or
a 0.19-2 library was used to create this crash (which is not binary
compatible with the original 0.19 because of exactly this type
change).

Bug#585966: pdns-server: init.d script should provide the virtual facility $named

2010-06-16 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
Hm, making pdns implement the $named virtual facility do not seem to
be enough. The server is not accepting DNS requests when the init.d
script exits, causing dhcpd to fail to start even if its init.d script
depend on $named. This syslog snipped show the issue. Notice how the

This time the LDAP server starts, pdns starts and is ready to handle
DNS requests before dhcpd starts, and the DHCP server is able to get
going at boot.

Can the pdns init.d script or the pdns source be changed to make sure
pdns is operational when the init.d script exits?

I've fixed this upstream, thanks. It'll be in the next snapshot.

This would have broken 'update-grub --help' and 'update-grub --version'.
After some thought, I decided that it was easier to simply undo the new
strictness in grub-mkconfig, rather than e.g. introduce a whole new
option parser to update-grub.

Thanks,

Bug#586099: telepathy-mission-control-5: backslashes in accounts.cfg get doubled, repeatedly

2010-06-16 Thread Simon McVittie
Package: telepathy-mission-control-5
Version: 5.5.0-1
Severity: serious
Justification: release-critical in maintainer's opinion
Tags: upstream
Forwarded: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28557

If a connection manager parameter's value contains '\', the number of '\' is
doubled every time accounts.cfg is written. Similar corruption will occur
for parameters containing newline or tab.

This bug does not exist in 5.4.x, and will be fixed for the 5.5.x branch
in 5.5.2.

If this bug has caused your accounts.cfg to become extremely large,
see the upstream bug for details of how to recover:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28557

Simon

This package is not available in any supported Debian versions.

No, this only breaks the access to it.

You could start with bugging the package the creates the error
(cryptsetup) and provide further information like kernel log (where the
error originates).

I've just had a look at the package source, and I can only see an exception
for 'charts.swf' (at the end of license.txt), which allows the GPLed
b2evolution to be linked with the charts library.

I cannot find anything containing a license that allows us to distribute
charts.swf itself. The upstream website [0] also appears to be lacking any
license statement allowing us to distribute it.

The 'dewplayer{,-mini}.swf' files look to be from [1], which clearly states
they're released under the Creative Commons "Attribution-No Derivative Works
2.0 France" license. That sounds non-DFSG-free to me.

Are these flash files required for core functionality in b2evolution? Or can
they be optional components that are packaged separately and brought in with
Recommends/Suggests?

It looks like 'dewplayer' can at least be packaged in non-free; PHP/Charts
will need some clarification from upstream.

Alternatively, there are other mp3 players and chart libraries available
under free licenses. A quick google found me:

mp3 player: http://flash-mp3-player.net/ (CC-BY-SA / MPL)
chart library: http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/charts/ (BSD, packaged in
libjs-yui)

The patch you refer to doesn't work for us as GNU doesn't have strlcpy.
I created a small and simple patch (with review by Sebastian Pipping,
sping at gentoo.org, thanks for that) to avoid writing over the the
maximum strlen. It's attached and uploaded with urgency high to
DELAYED/2.

Hope it's all right.

Thks Jason,

Could you please install the libexiv2-dbg so we might get a better backtrack
result.

Mark

OK, so libexiv2-dbg isn't in unstable, so I went to grab it from
experimental, but found a later version (0.20) which is for libexiv2-9
(not 2-6, which is what I had) so I grabbed all these from experimental:
exiv2 libexiv2-9 libexiv2-dbg

and installed them. Then I went to get a new backtrace from gdb/geeqie,
but it was still using the old version of libexiv2.

So I changed the symbolic link at /usr/lib/libexiv2.so.6 to point to the
new libexiv2 (/usr/lib/libexiv2.so.9) and now geeqie doesn't crash.

If a backtrace of geeqie with libexiv2-6 0.19-3 would still be useful,
please let me know how I can get my hands on libexiv2-dbg that is
compatible with this version. I tried building libexiv2 from source
(apt-get source libexiv2-6, etc) but it did not produce a -dbg package.

Take care, - Jason

Package: grub-pc
Version: 1.98+20100614-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

The latest grub introduces a change to the argument processing for
grub-mkconfig. Now, rather than ignoring unknown arguments, it produces
an error.

This is a problem because the kernel image postinst script invokes the
postinst_hook (defined in /etc/kernel-img.conf to be update-grub, a
wrapper for grub-mkconfig) with arguments that appear to be the kernel
version and path. These arguments were previously ignored, but now
produce an error.

Because of this, kernel image configuration will always fail. Here's an
example (yes this is a sidux kernel, but I don't think the postinst is
significantly different in this regard):

$ sudo dpkg --configure -a -D3

A simple way to fix this is to remove the "$@" in

kernel packages.

Bug#586133: linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64: Boot process pauses indefinitely waiting for keyboard activity

2010-06-16 Thread Bob Freemer
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-15
Severity: critical
Tags: d-i squeeze
Justification: breaks the whole system

The kernel pauses waiting for any keyboard input early* in the boot process.

Pressing any key during this pause causes the kernel to continue booting
normally.

There is no error message present when this pause happens, and it occurs also
later in the boot process (after loading NFS for example).

* The pause first happens after the following lines in the kernel log:

Bug#586027: closed by Andres Mejia (Re: Bug#586027: mediatomb-daemon: mediatomb fails to start with libva missing error)

2010-06-16 Thread Eric Lavarde

Hi,

I confirm, you are fully right, it's ffmpeg from Marillat which depends
on libavcodec52 which itself depends on libva1 (without version) but
actually relies on an older version of libva1, provided by
debian-multimedia.org but hidden by a new version from Debian.

Fix in case someone reads these lines: downgrade libva1 to an older
version, like:

sudo aptitude install libva1=0.31.0-0.0+sds12

Sorry for the noise,
Eric

AFAICT the konqueror dependencies are installed from testing (or
unstable in the case of kde libs which I tried to upgrade to 4.4 for
the test).

I don't see this as a misconfiguration.

Bug#586143: Doesn't boot: Unaligned pointer 4c191bea

2010-06-16 Thread Guido Günther
Package: grub-pc
Version: 1.98+20100614-1
Severity: critical

Hi,
after the upgrade:

grub-pc 1.98+20100527-2 1.98+20100614-1

system won't boot anymore. Grub prints:

Unaligned pointer 0x4c191bea - press any key

After pressing a key it says "No operation system found" - seems grub
quit. Downgrading to 1.98 and running grub-setup /dev/sda makes the
system boot again.

Hi,

I've seen packages libopenthreads13 and libopenscenegraph65 reach the

libopenscenegraph56 :

libopenscenegraph65 - 3D scene graph, shared libs

patator:~# apt-get install flightgear

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:

Depends: libopenthreads12 (>= 2.8.2) but it is not

(Don't use grub-setup directly; use grub-install.)

With 1.98+20100614-1, could you please temporarily apply this patch to

Thanks Andreas,

It appears that some versions of geeqie were built against the broken version
of exiv2/0.19-2.

geeqie/1:1.0-4 is correctly forced to ignore exiv2/0.19-2 and depends on
exiv2/0.19-3.

The only problem with this dependency is that nslcd can provide $named
in some environments (when hostnames are resolved through LDAP, see
#544093). I don't know if such a circular dependency is problematic.

Sorry to muck you around so much Jason.

It appears that some versions of geeqie were built against the broken version

geeqie/1:1.0-4 is correctly forced to ignore exiv2/0.19-2 and depends on
exiv2/0.19-3.

So to clean up your system you should install geeqie/1:1.0-4 & exiv2/0.19-3,
and remove exiv2/0.20 from experimental.

At very least your base system is outdated. Failure is weird and points
towards problem with base installation. You are free to use whatever you
believe is OK, but we cannot support every weird mix out there. Sorry.

It is definitely problematic, but I believe it is solvable.

In such environments, the sysadmin can provide different dependency
information in /etc/insserv/overrides/nslcd, without the dependency on
$named, and make nslcd implement the virtual facility $named by adding
an entry in /etc/insserv.conf.d/.

beneath-a-steel-sky doesn't need to be compiled, so it can stay in main.
If beneath* were licensed under the GPL it would fail the "preferred
form of modification" requirement, but it's BSD-like license
grants you all the necessary rights to modify, use and distribute. The
fact that the tools which were used when the game was developed no
longer exist is irrelevant, you can still modify it anyway you want.

The same applies to flight-of-the-amazon-queen.

Bug#585908: [Support @ ETI] RE: DNS setup

2010-06-16 Thread Camm Maguire
Greetings! Does this address your concerns?

Take care,

--- Begin Message ---
Hi,
We checked the DNS and found that the zone was missing the redundant DNS
servers. So we have added them and reloaded the zone for your domain. What
might have happened is that in a high load scenario if the 1
admin.eticomm.net became unavailable, and there was no other name server to
go to, then the request could timeout. With the redundant name servers added
in now, if one doesn't answer in time, then it will automatically go to the
2nd and 3rd and so on.

Let us know if you have any questions. Thank you.

Hi,
the current cryptsetup package already ships a bash-completion file and
thus the current bash-completion package can not be installed along with

Bug#576250: febootstrap: segfaults and fails to complete bootstrapping

2010-06-16 Thread Fathi Boudra
Hi,

I'm using febootstrap since some week and indeed, I'm able to reproduce the bug.
However, I disagree with the severity serious as it doesn't renders
package unusable.

After the segfault and the febootstrap cache removal failure, the
boostrap is functional.
You can chroot and use it as expected (note: you should cleanup the
cache yourself if you want more space).

Anyway, a new upstream release will be appreciated. If you don't mind,
I could upload a NMU if needed.

Cheers,

Fathi

Hello,

I just ran apt-get upgrade on my squeeze/sid and I this error.
I found a workaround that could be useful in case you are stuck and
you need to play some video.
As root
cd /usr/lib
ln -s libva.so.1 libva-0.31.0.6.so.1

I think it could be solved by installing libva-0.31 from source (again
another workaround)

Hello, John. I haven't got enough words to give you thanks for your
work.

I'm currently reviewing your changes and I'd like to merge them into
the
current structure. I understand that you forked the tree long time ago, and
I'd like to reconcile both trees. Said that, I'd like to trim down all the
internal releases you did in ZAP Group and merge them into a big changelog for
1.1.5-1 (entirely devoted to you, by the way :-). Given that I have the
highest respect for you, do you mind if I do that?

Of course, this is the most critical part.

Agreed.

Perfect. I'll need to review again viewvc-install, as it's been the
source
of many nightmares months ago.

Completely agree. The configuration scripts are a complete nightmare
as
well, so probably using ucf would be the sanest option.

Where I originally encountered this bug was in the PowerPCSPE port buildd:

Here's the build-log for coinutils (which definitely build-depends on zlib1g):

http://buildd.debian-ports.org/fetch.php?&pkg=coinutils&ver=2.6.4-2&arch=powerpcspe&stamp=1276481629&file=log&as=raw

And here's the build-log for clp:

http://buildd.debian-ports.org/fetch.php?&pkg=clp&ver=1.11.1-2&arch=powerpcspe&stamp=1276535818&file=log&as=raw

Thanks!

Cheers,

I'm seeing permanent crashes of iceweasel recently, and disabling pango
with
MOZ_DISABLE_PANGO=1 iceweasel
stops that completely, so I am filing a bug against pango.

It could be related to cairo. I got the following stderr output on a crash:
