Bug#592099: Grave packaging issues in PHPwiki

I would agree if there wasn't this PHP 2.02 issue. > If there are serious security issues as you hint > at then please file the appropriate bugs so we can address them through > the normal processes. I thought there was an issue with the shipped nusoap.php, but I think it's fine as it's protected by a .htaccess. I might be wrong though. I have sent another report still, and as well for the embedded PEAR libs. > The embedding of software in phpwiki is certainly sub optimal. But hard > to rectify without major changes from upstream. IMHO, this isn't something you can have the upstream do change for. This really is a packaging issue, not upstream. What you should do is create a +dfsg package that removes all the libraries, then create a symlink to the libs that are packaged in Debian. Best would be to script all this. I did that for the extplorer web file manager, and it worked well: the upstream can keep his embedded libs, which makes it possible to install the upstream tarball of phpwiki directly in an apache vhost without caring about installed libs, while the Debian package would still use separate libs. Whatever technique is chosen, I believe you should convince the upstream author to at least update his shipped libs, because right now they are quite outdated. > The bugs to separate out the dependencies and all RFH tagged and I would > gladly welcome patches - as would the upstream developers who are aware > of the issue but have limited time for such work. I would have limited time to work on it as well. If I was to work on packaging a wiki for PHP, I would rather do it for PmWiki that I like a lot (I have to say that I don't really know phpwiki...). I think it would be more reasonable to say that I will be able to help later on, after the release, but maybe not right now, unfortunately. > In summary - yes there is clearly much to be improved in the package and > the PHP issues will likely keep it out of the new release but I'm not > connecting convinced that a full scale package removal from the archive > is justified as you conclude. How will you fix the legal issue with PHP 2.02 of phpwiki in Lenny then? I know, all this does hurt, but I don't think we have a choice... :( > The issues are being worked on, but as > usual more hands are needed to make it happen at the speed we desire. Bug#597905: phpwiki embbeds some PEAR library which are licensed under PHP license 2.02
Package: phpwiki Version: 1.3.14-3 Severity: serious phpwiki has a folder called lib/pear that holds: - Cache.php - DB.php (and it's other modules) - File_Passwd.php - PEAR.php itself. These are licensed under the PHP license 2.02. This license is considered non-free when used outside of PHP itself, which makes it forbidden to use in a package like PHPWiki. The solution of course is to use the PEAR package that is in Debian, and depend on: php-pear, php-cache, php-db Then to do the in debian/rules install target: ln -s ../../php/pear $(DESTDIR)/usr/share/phpwiki/lib/pear To remove these libs. But the the issue is that php-file-passwd isn't in Debian at all for the moment, which makes it impossible to fix in Lenny. -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0.5 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-4-xen-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#595903: apt-setup: Fail to set up DVD as APT source during installation
Be patient with me for my english. After done the minimal installation (by squeeze dvd medium 20100913), the installer does install nothing more, also after uncommenting the installation disk line in sources.list. I needed to end installation as it was, and rebooted the system with another bootloader from another partition. Trying to install remaining packages, aptitude ask to insert the dvd #1, so I do that, but installation fails with "file not found" error for each package. Noted that the disk were installed by aptitude on /media/apt, I unmounted it and remounted on /media/cdrom. Now the installation goes straight ahead. So the installer mounts the disk on one place but searches its contents on another. Bug#592099: Grave packaging issues in PHPwiki
Hi Thomas I wasn't aware of any out of date licensing info since I last trawled the codebase and updated the copyright file - in anycase this metadata is easy enough to bring to correctness now it is noticed. The history of this package is that it has always had caretaker maintainers and while we've done our best to keep it inline with evolving policy requirements and best practices over the years the upstream codebase certainly does not make that an easy task. As you have yourself discovered. The upstream developers have promised me a new release in the next week or two to address the PHP5.3 issues so my plan was to wait for that before initiating any further action on my part. Chances are the release team is unlikely to accept a brand new version into testing at this stage so it is entirely likely that phpwiki will not be in our next release. However i'd like to have the new phpwiki release in hand before coming to a final conclusion here. With regards to the other open bugs and the package in stable. We have users depending on it so I'm not really convinced that removal is in their best interests. If there are serious security issues as you hint at then please file the appropriate bugs so we can address them through the normal processes. The embedding of software in phpwiki is certainly sub optimal. But hard to rectify without major changes from upstream. The package was accepted many years ago before we really cracked down and tightened up on such behaviour in PHP apps. I think this helps explain how the package "got past" the ftpmasters. The bugs to separate out the dependencies and all RFH tagged and I would gladly welcome patches - as would the upstream developers who are aware of the issue but have limited time for such work. In summary - yes there is clearly much to be improved in the package and the PHP issues will likely keep it out of the new release but I'm not connecting convinced that a full scale package removal from the archive is justified as you conclude. The issues are being worked on, but as usual more hands are needed to make it happen at the speed we desire. Cheers. Bug#584383: Not pending, disappeared from NEW ?
I rejected titantools with a message saying that because of a bug in dak, we are unable to easily handle non-sourceful uploads that move a package from main to non-free. As we are bogged down with other stuff, the quickest way to get titantools through new is going to be making a sourceful upload. My suggestion is to build with the same .orig.tar.gz but with an artificial version bump in order to make it appear to be a new upstream version. so perhaps 4.0.11+notdfsg0 or something (creating a 4.0.11+notdfsg0-1 debian version). Sorry for the inconvenience. stew On Wed, 22 Sep 2010 17:55:50 +0200, "Didier 'OdyX' Raboud" wrote: > tags 584383 -pending > thanks > > Hi dear titantools maintainers, > > From what I could gather from the "NEW" log, it seems that there was "once" a > "titantools 4.0.11-7" in NEW, that was supposed to fix this RC bug: > > * Makefile.linux: Do not build noshell as a static binary as this > does not gain anything and leads to a FTBFS in amd64 (Closes: 584383) > > My RSS tells me that "titantools 4.0.11-7 left NEW" on 04.09.2010 02:00, but > I > can't get a trace of that anywhere on the packages.qa.d.o, on the buildd or > on > the archive (CC'ing ftpmaster to get a enlightening on that). > > So #584383 is still to be fixed. > > Cheers, OdyX > -- > Didier Raboud, proud Debian Maintainer (DM). > CH-1020 Renens > did...@raboud.com -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Package: kolabd Version: 2.2.4-20100624-3 Severity: grave I have the following in the syslog: Sep 13 20:23:02 netthieu cyrus/master[1264]: about to exec /usr/lib/cyrus/bin/ctl_cyrusdb Sep 13 20:23:02 netthieu cyrus/master[1264]: can't exec /usr/lib/cyrus/bin/ctl_cyrusdb on schedule: No such file or directory Sep 13 20:23:02 netthieu cyrus/master[348]: process 1264 exited, status 71 This comes from cyrus.conf which contains basename of binaries instead of full path. Cyrus master is not using the $PATH env (I don't know why) and the file is not found. To fix this, use the absolute path as done in cyrus.conf from the cyrus-common-2.2 package -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (900, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.utf8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Emil Langrock wrote: severity 593933 whishlist block 593933 by 597565 thanks So, now (after #594553) it is clear that the assumption in the first post of this bug (#593933) were wrong and only pkg-config was missing. So back to whishlist for aqbanking 5 support - which the next release of kmymoney will have. Or to be more precise: it will be aqbanking 5 only thanks to the patch inside the attached patch. So lets hope that the libgwenhyvfar will then search in the right path for the aqbanking dialogs. -- Emil Langrock -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". I was able to recover the link by boot cd, so I think I did not lose any data. Background: I installed slapd on my desktop for testing with ldapbackend. I just did a straight installation of slapd but I changed slapd.conf afterwards to use the ldap-backend. During the upgrade either slapd.config or slapd.postinst failed and tried to delete the database directory but since my slapd.conf did not contain any directory statement any more get_directory returned nothing and $dbdir was emtpy. So instead of rm -f "$dbdir"/* it ran rm -f /*! Please add a test that checks if $dbdir has any value! Btw: I think rm -f "$dbdir"/* can run into MAX_ARGS. maybe using find -delete would be better -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.34-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages slapd depends on: ii adduser 3.112 add and remove users and groups ii coreutils 8.5-1 GNU core utilities ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.35 Debian configuration management sy ii libc6 2.11.2-5 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libdb4.8 4.8.30-2 Berkeley v4.8 Database Libraries [ ii libgnutls26 2.8.6-1the GNU TLS library - runtime libr ii libldap-2.4-2 2.4.23-5 OpenLDAP libraries ii libltdl7 2.2.6b-2 A system independent dlopen wrappe ii libperl5.10 5.10.1-14 shared Perl library ii libsasl2-22.1.23.dfsg1-6 Cyrus SASL - authentication abstra ii libslp1 1.2.1-7.8 OpenSLP libraries ii libwrap0 7.6.q-19 Wietse Venema's TCP wrappers libra ii lsb-base 3.2-23.1 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip ii perl [libmime-base64-perl 5.10.1-14 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction ii psmisc22.11-1utilities that use the proc file s ii unixodbc 2.2.14p2-1 ODBC tools libraries Versions of packages slapd recommends: ii libsasl2-modules 2.1.23.dfsg1-6 Cyrus SASL - pluggable authenticat Versions of packages slapd suggests: ii ldap-utils2.4.23-5 OpenLDAP utilities - Besuchen Sie unsere neue Website. The binary packages that you generate cannot be rebuilt if the files you download vanish (be it the mirror going offline, or the files being removed from the Debian archive altogether), even though all build-dependencies are satisfied. This way, Debian would distribute binaries without sources... how can this be right? The scripts used to extract the files are the actual source. You should wait for multiarch or contribute in this direction, rather than hack something to work around current known limitations.
