This would also fail when you try to install a kernel into a chroot and
s390-tools happens to be installed (which might be unusual, though).
Maybe, as this error comes from zipl, it would make sense to guard the
zipl invocation by checking for the config file presence first?

I almost just closed #570723 - but I'll reassign to libtool, because
maybe it should 'set -e' or something (unless that's not portable).

Issues such as this:

| eval: 1: libtool_args+=: not found
| eval: 1: libtool_args+=: not found

typically come from configure running the tests under a different shell
than libtool. This is often because the configure.ac messes with $SHELL
and/or $CONFIG_SHELL, or CONFIG_SHELL is set in the environment.

The build log referenced looks like it ran under bash:

| checking whether the shell understands some XSI constructs... yes
| checking whether the shell understands +=... yes

yet make uses /usr/lib/rep/x86_64-pc-kfreebsd-gnu/libtool which doesn't
seem to have been created by configure. I suspect that
/usr/lib/rep/x86_64-pc-kfreebsd-gnu/libtool assumes /bin/sh is bash,
because at the time and on the system it was created it was bash.

In all likelihood, this is not a Libtool bug.

It should add routes from the server, but it only adds the route to the

I've attached the connection log from /var/log/syslog (some real info was

Hi Lukas

[Note: I'm not the Maintainer of this mozzemberek]

I just go trough the RC bugs and noticed that bugreport. Could you
check if you too could reproduce the issue? I did a rebuild in
squeeze, and it does now give some warnings on build, but builds
trough.

The relevant changes may be updated xulrunner now on 1.9.1.13-1 in
squeeze, and during your build 1.9.1.11-2. But I have not further
investigated.

Bug#600177: virtualbox-ose: out of disk while merging a snapshot destroys the disk image

2010-10-14 Thread Adam Borowski
Package: virtualbox-ose
Version: 3.2.8-dfsg-2
Severity: grave
Justification: causes serious data loss

If you elect to merge the current state of a differentiating disk image into
the base (deleting a snapshot) and run out of disk space on the host
filesystem while merging, the resulting image will be corrupted.

I happened to look at the ~/.VirtualBox/VDI and
~/.VirtualBox/Machines/${machine}/Snapshot directories before trying to
continue, they did have both the base image and the differential one, so at
this point I guess it would be recoverable by simply restarting -- sectors

the same data again. However, when retrying the merge, VirtualBox started
merging a second disk (the virtual machine in question had two) and deleted
the first differential image.

Hi There,

We've just had an issue were a server became unresponsive after NTP started
switching status as per the daemon log below:

Oct 13 19:15:44 mb ntpd[1966]: kernel time sync status change 4001
Oct 13 20:06:59 mb ntpd[1966]: kernel time sync status change 0001

Oct 13 21:43:43 mb afpd[2052]: server_child[1] 5409 exited 1
Oct 13 21:49:26 mb ntpd[1966]: kernel time sync status change 4001

Oct 14 10:03:40 mb ntpd[1966]: kernel time sync status change 0001

Once the server was rebooted, netatalk (afpd) clients could reconnect again.
and SSH connections once again worked.

I'm not 100% sure that NTP caused the issue, as the status changes have been
reported previously without causing unresponsiveness. However there is no other
logs indicating any other failures.

Bug#599996: Unreproducible ?

2010-10-14 Thread Alastair McKinstry
I've built this code on sid on zelenka.debian.org and it builds (and
runs testcases) fine.

I can't trigger this failure.

While debugging i've found two minor bugs and am uploading a fresh
build to fix them (2.3.0-2);

i'll see if the upload builds, and if so, consider it a runtime glitch.

Alastair

needs help, then I'm pessimistic about armel.

Hi everybody,

My two cents : I should receive in a few weeks (around 3/4) some Open-RD
hardware [1]. One of the boxes will be running Debian. As soon as the
Debian runs I propose my help for the Ada part on this platform.

But as Ludovic is pointing, this is late in the release cycle, so may be
my help can only be of some use for the next stable release.

Hope it will help, xavier
[1] http://www.open-rd.org/

well, first I'd like to understand the issue, what goes wrong ...

the ada-acats.diff has some parts related to zcx, which are not built on armel,
so this patch should be split into a generic and a zcx part.

this explains the testsuite failures.

hmm, I'm unable to reproduce the build failure, using gcc-4.4.5-1 as a bootstrap
compiler.

now uploaded, built with itself.

Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-23
Severity: critical
Justification: causes serious data loss

I hibernated in Lenny, using the same kernel version.
The next day I accidentally selected Squeeze from the grub2 menu.
Squeeze started up normally and reported on filesystems not cleanly closed and
orphaned inodes.

Bug#600206: libcompass-ruby: compass apparently completely broken

2010-10-14 Thread Jonas Smedegaard
Package: libcompass-ruby
Version: 0.10.2debian-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

Trying out compass today, I realized that it aparently is completely unusable
out-of-the-box :-(

It cannot even list its own provided frameworks:

jo...@auryn:sass (master)$ compass --list-frameworks
/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/compass/frameworks.rb:53:in `initialize': No such file or
directory - /usr/share/compass/frameworks/frameworks (Errno::ENOENT)
from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/compass/frameworks.rb:53:in `new'
from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/compass/frameworks.rb:53:in `discover'
from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/compass/frameworks.rb:124
from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/compass.rb:19:in `require'
from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/compass.rb:19
from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/compass.rb:18:in `each'
from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/compass.rb:18
from /usr/bin/compass:20:in `require'
from /usr/bin/compass:20
from /usr/bin/compass:8:in `fallback_load_path'
from /usr/bin/compass:19

Adding a symlink from /usr/share/compass/frameworks/frameworks to
/usr/share/compass/frameworks makes above command work - and others too.

I suspect the build routines sets the install path wrongly.

Kind regards,

 - Jonas

Bug#566844: more info

2010-10-14 Thread Robert Fantini
I am not using NIS and have what seems to be the same issue.

Using Squeeze . this is an open-vz running dovecot-imap .

*some* users can not check their mail. there is no useful error
written to any log file that I could find.

this is the dovecot log entry for a failed auth:
Oct 14 10:00:15 webmail dovecot: imap-login: Disconnected (auth
failed, 1 attempts): user=user1234, method=PLAIN, rip=xxx.xxx.xxx.xx
, lip=10.100.100.89

as root when I do su - non-working-user-for-imap I get :
su: Authentication service cannot retrieve authentication info
(Ignored)

for a user able to use imap I do not get that error.

Those users can log into an etch dovecot server .

Until this is fixed i am switching the container to a different release .

If there are any tests or more info needed please let me know.

I think ideally the fix should be made in gcc, if it is a mipsel
compilation problem. The first step is to reproduce it with the latest
gcc upload...

Since the original intention was that one bug should be left open to
remind the maintainer to port to s390, I'm retitling this one and
downgrading.

Bug#546528: [PATCH] make dash's preinst a C binary

2010-10-14 Thread Adam D. Barratt

Presumably the idea is that before bash is updated, its /bin/sh is
always diverted, so the removal of bash's copy of /bin/sh causes
 no harm.

I don't see why dash's preinst urgently has to be rewritten in C
 (though I don't disagree that it's a good thing to do);

The key thing is that if the move to dash-as-default - or an upgrade of
dash whilst it is the default shell - fails, that should not leave the
system without a working /bin/sh. Having it not be a shell script seems
a reasonable why of achieving that. :-)

 if /bin/bash
is missing, aren't we in deep trouble anyway?

Yes. dash's preinst (in 0.5.5.1-7) currently has a /bin/sh shebang,
however.

Adam

Bug#577321: Bug #590157: cdbs and module-assistant: conflicting use of DEB_DESTDIR variable

2010-10-14 Thread Tim Retout
[BCCing bug #577321 on gpib, which can probably do without the follow-up
on this for the moment.]

This is actually a new problem.

In cdbs commit e5a26f5a7ac5344790d69a3099e08994600f1442, first shipped
in cdbs 0.4.76, there was this change in 1/rules/buildvars.mk.in:

- DEB_DESTDIR = $(CURDIR)/debian/$(strip $(DEB_ALL_PACKAGES))/
+ DEB_DESTDIR ?= $(CURDIR)/debian/$(strip $(DEB_ALL_PACKAGES))/
 else
- DEB_DESTDIR = $(CURDIR)/debian/tmp/
+ DEB_DESTDIR ?= $(CURDIR)/debian/tmp/

So DEB_DESTDIR is now getting clobbered by module-assistant. Revenge at
last! ;)

I'll try to think up a new workaround for gpib... not sure whether this
affects other m-a packages. (Do any others use cdbs?)

I'm attaching a debdiff that gets gpib to build for me - I don't have
time to test the built packages tonight, so I've not actually made the
NMU upload yet.

Package: librep-dev
Version: 0.90.2-1
Severity: important

The copy of libtool shipped with this package doesn't work if the package
is built on a system with bash as /bin/sh and then used on a system with
dash as /bin/sh.

This has broken the rep-gtk package on kfreebsd-amd64; see
the various eval: 1: libtool_args+=: not found messages in

https://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=rep-gtk;ver=1%3A0.90.0-2;arch=kfreebsd-amd64;stamp=1258691519

Some background of the problem can be found at

 http://www.mail-archive.com/bug-libt...@gnu.org/msg01265.html

and the fix is apparently to explicitly set CONFIG_SHELL=bash
like the libtool package does.

I'll file a separate bug against rep-gtk as soon as I get the
BTS ack from this one.
