Bug#614221: linux-image-2.6.37-1-powerpc: 2.6.37-1-powerpc does not but on iMac G3
2011/2/21 Gunther Furtado gunfurt...@gmail.com: Hi, 2011/2/20 Ben Hutchings b...@decadent.org.uk: On Sun, 2011-02-20 at 10:17 -0300, Gunther Furtado wrote: Package: linux-2.6 Version: 2.6.37-1 Severity: critical Tags: d-i Justification: breaks the whole system Hi, First of all: I cannot run reportbug while running the package I am reporting this bug because I cannot boot from it. I suspect this is due to my changes to framebuffer driver selection, which you obviously noticed. The problem is that on PowerPC systems we cannot assume hardware support for a text mode (as on PCs) and so we must select from the following sets of framebuffer drivers: 1. Generic drivers using firmware or standard registers (FB_OF, FB_VGA16, ...) 2. Specific drivers without support for GPU acceleration (FB_INTEL, FB_NVIDIA, FB_RADEON, ...) 3. Specific drivers with KMS and GEM/TTM (DRM_I915, DRM_NOUVEAU, DRM_RADEON) The type 1 drivers generally allow switching to a different driver for the same hardware. But once we have loaded a type 2 or 3 driver there is no way to switch without rebooting. Previously we built-in several type 2 drivers, which meant KMS was not possible. However, current X drivers for Intel, Nvidia and AMD/ATI hardware require KMS and GEM/TTM so we cannot continue to do this. We need to load type 3 drivers, but they are so large that we don't want to make them built-in. Also, the AMD/ATI Radeon driver requests firmware for 3D acceleration, which is not available at the time built-in drivers are initialised. Therefore, I'm trying to build-in type 1 drivers that cover all PowerPC hardware. Apparently that doesn't work. Do you see any messages from the kernel, or just a blank screen? Sorry I didn't mention it in my previous message but it seems that your suspicions are correct: The boot messages start to appear until the last to lines that mention FB and tty1 (i am not close to my box right now but they have very similar structure to the ones that appear when I successfully boot 2.6.37-trunk-powerpc). Being precise: --- Console: colour dummy device 80x25 console [tty0] enabled, boot console disable --- those are the last two line I see before rebooting. cheers, -- “Estes aprazíveis pensamentos tornam de tal modo leve o meu trabalho que nunca estou tão ocioso como quando a ele me dedico. Bug#614580: asterisk: AST-2011-002: Multiple array overflow and crash vulnerabilities in UDPTL code
Package: asterisk Version: 1:1.6.2.9-2+squeeze1 Justification: user security hole Severity: grave Tags: security patch upstream The Asterisk project has reported security advisory ASA-2011-002 http://downloads.asterisk.org/pub/security/AST-2011-002.html (No CVE ATM) When decoding UDPTL packets, multiple stack and heap based arrays can be made to overflow by specially crafted packets. Systems doing T.38 pass through or termination are vulnerable. Bug#614383: broken by Release file changes
Hello, any plans to backport debmirror 2.6 to lenny? I installed 2.6 on my local mirror and got an errror afterwards. Can't locate object method show_progress via package LWP::UserAgent at /usr/bin/debmirror line 817. I was able to solve this problem by uncommenting line 817 #$ua-show_progress($progress); This seems to fixed the problem. But I'm a bit worried that there may other places in the code that are incompatible and do not directly throw an error. Bug#614587: virtualbox-ose: quick fix to prevent python 2.4 dependency
Package: virtualbox-ose Severity: normal -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 A quick fix would be to change the xs-python-version in debian/control to = 2.5. Bug#612956: nvidia-glx requires xorg-video-abi-8.0 but new xserver-xorg-core, provides xorg-video-abi-8
The pre-release drivers fixed my dependency problems, but I can't get multi-head to work with them. I'm using a single card to drive 2 monitors, and as long as I have a Screen 0 or Screen 1 in either device section, xorg bombs out saying screen 0 deleted because a matching config section couldn't be found. I've verified my settings, and that's the only thing that makes a difference. If I remove the Screen options, I can only bring up a single monitor. -- Gary Kramlich g...@reaperworld.com -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. I will report, as per requested to the alsa-bug, at the given address (I didn't know until it was presented) https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug. However, this was caused (to the best of my limited knowledge), by some changes, as I said, in a rather massive Debian Squeeze upgrade, I had not changed any parameters, files, hardware, etc., either just prior to, or after this upgrade. This is some of what I complained about to the Debian developers forum (with no response!): Rosegarden crashes, Real Audio (Helix 11), crashes, Jack (by itself) will not start up (via qjackctl), Ardour can not open (start) Jack, probably other problems I have not yet encountered... I discovered that I can get Jack to start up by loading ZynAddSubFX (but no sound is played), then Rosegarden Ardour will load properly, minus audio (i.e., midi functions work, audio in previously recorded files show as playing, but no sound). I went through the alsa check list (viewtopic.php?f=16t=53708 http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=16t=53708). Nothing there I tried helped. I have contacted the person who wrote the echo driver (Giuliano Pochini poch...@shiny.it), he apparently knew nothing about this situation. I welcome any inquiries for further information, suggestions... or what ever, freely admit, I am rather poking in the dark here, so the information I offer, may not be what you need to know. Thanks for your attention to this matter, as a functioning audio system is important to my work. Bug#614135: typo3-dummy: Does not provide a user and password
Hello, please disregard my report. I found the function for adding an admin user hidden in the install tool. I'm sorry for the needless trouble. However, would it be possible to point out this function in the docs? It's rather hard to spot mixed up with several functions for importing and comparing databases. But when someone comes back with a similar issue, we at least have a starting point... I suspect that some further iteration of what you were doing did the equivalent of m-a clean. module-assistant is somewhat annoying in that if you don't remember to do a clean, you can end up with all sorts of weird random failures that often then disappear. -- Russ Allbery (r...@debian.org) http://www.eyrie.org/~eagle/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. After a Feb. 2, 2011 Squeeze upgrade my echo mia sound card module would not load (by alsa). Yikes. git does not depend on emacsen, but its postinst contains if test -x /usr/lib/emacsen-common/emacs-package-install; then /usr/lib/emacsen-common/emacs-package-install git fi the theory being, if you have emacs installed, you'd presumably want to have these modules byte-compiled. It sounds like that text -x condition is too weak. Does the emacsen policy provide a way to check whether emacsen-common is configured (i.e., ready to be used)? AFAIK, no; you have to depend on emacsen-common. Otherwise, I suppose the .el files will have to move to a separate git-emacs package (which would depend on emacsen-common). If you want to make a separate package, it should be named git-el and depend on emacs | emacsen. Alternatively, you could make git depend on emacsen-common. Bug#612956: nvidia-glx requires xorg-video-abi-8.0 but new xserver-xorg-core, provides xorg-video-abi-8

I've verified my settings, and that's the only thing that makes a difference. If I remove the Screen options, I can only bring up a single monitor. That sounds somewhat similar to 604915, although that one was with xinerama. I have no idea about a cause though, or whether it's nvidia-specific. Bug#614666: thttpd 2.25b-11 sets REMOTE_ADDR to 127.0.0.1
Package: thttpd Version: 2.25b-11 Severity: grave Justification: causes non-serious data loss thttpd 2.25b-11 introduces new behavior from 2.25b-9 that breaks http logging. The variable REMOTE_ADDR is now set to 127.0.0.1 for many hosts rather than correctly showing the real external IP address. This means that requests are written to the access log coming from 127.0.0.1 which is incorrect and misleading. This new behavior might be the result of the following patch: http://patch-tracker.debian.org/patch/series/view/thttpd/2.25b-11/10-x-forwarded-for-header.dpatch -- however, this patch is not a bug fix, it introduces completely new behavior over thttpd 2.25b-9 which is a mistake. If you wish to introduce new behavior like this that breaks our configurations, it should at least come as an option, not as the default. I'm now forced to compile thttpd from source if I wish the correct behavior (yes, thttpd compiled from source shows REMOTE_ADDR: external_ip, not localhost). -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers oldstable APT policy: (500, 'oldstable'), (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.37-1-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages thttpd depends on: ii libc6 2.11.2-11 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib Versions of packages thttpd recommends: ii logrotate 3.7.8-6Log rotation utility Versions of packages thttpd suggests: ii thttpd-util 2.25b-11 tiny/turbo/throttling HTTP server -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Internet was not accessible from the build systems. Hello, thanks for the report and the link in the wiki. This fail is due to the new version of libx11-dev[0], and the use of internal ifdefs in xpaint (image.h). From a bug report in Gentoo[1]: They changed internal ifdefs to be prefixed with _X11_ on Xlib.h[2] so nothing that use former ifdefs won't compile... After fixing this, I found another build problem due to indirect linking (already reported). (I have fixed using a patch from Roy Jamison). I will upload a new version of the package ASAP. Bug#614578: [PATCH git] debian: make git*.el packaging more robust
git's postinst contains the following snippet: if test -x /usr/lib/emacsen-common/emacs-package-install; then /usr/lib/emacsen-common/emacs-package-install git fi which makes git's elisp files usable and compiles them to bytecode on installation, provided emacsen-support is installed. Likewise, prerm has similar code to clean up if emacsen-support is installed. Of course that is totally broken, since it means: - if you install git first, then emacs, then no emacs support until the next git upgrade - if you install emacs, install git, remove emacs, and then remove git, then bytecode is not cleared away as it ought to be. Plus it means that users uninterested in the emacs support endure waiting for them to be compiled and reading the resulting warnings each time git is upgraded. So: - Move the .el files to a separate git-el package. - Make git depend on emacsen-support, so it can remove the old .elc files in postinst on upgrade. Luckily the broken preinst was not part of squeeze, so this transitional code (and the emacsen-support dependency) can be dropped after a while. Right, with the current infrastructure and the current policy (see /usr/share/doc/emacsen-common/debian-emacs-policy.gz), there are required dependencies (among other things). I started working on an overhaul last year that would alleviate possibly *all* the required dependencies, but for now, any package must add them -- hence the presence of all of the foo-el packages. Bug#614716: lighttpd: leaves dangling alternatives on upgrade
Package: lighttpd Version: 1.4.28-2 Severity: serious lighttpd split out the spawn-fcgi binary and manual page to spawn-fcgi but does not handle removal of the alternatives. With recommends on spawn-fcgi gets pulled in and the dangling alternative is fixed by spawn-fcgi. Lots of folks running servers will have installing recommends turned off so I marked this serious. I implemented something that hopefully catches these problems - but it only works when upgrading from a package that already had this change. So it won't work right now nor for squeeze-wheezy updates, but for later wheezy-wheezy updates and post wheezy updates. An optimal solution would consist in only one of the packages installing that file, and renaming or removing the file in the other package. Depending on the circumstances you might also consider Replace relations or file diversions. If the conflicting situation cannot be resolved then, as a last resort, the two packages have to declare a mutual Conflict. Please take into account that Replaces, Conflicts and diversions should only be used when packages provide different implementations for the same functionality. Here is a list of files that are known to be shared by both packages (according to the Contents file for sid/amd64, which may be slightly out of sync): /usr/bin/mi This bug is assigned to both packages. If you, the maintainers of the two packages in question, have agreed on which of the packages will resolve the problem please reassign the bug to that package. You may also register in the BTS that the other package is affected by the bug. -Ralf.
