Bug#620065: fixed in libimobiledevice 1.1.0-3

First of all, I wanted to suggest to drop the Conflicts and just keep the
Replaces. The Replaces is enough, the only problem is that the FDI file
will be lost if libimobiledevice2 is removed while some application
still use libimobiledevice1 (the other cases are correctly handled by dpkg
whatever the order of installation of the packages).
Ok, It sounds reasonable. I'll try to update it this week-end, but feel
free to NMU it if it's an emergency.

This WE should be fine, thanks.

Those uploads will be needed anyway, as I think libimobiledevice2
is/will not be API-compatible with libimobiledevice1. So, could be a
   moot point.

Julien (Lavergne), do you know if this is the case?
For now, only new API was added, but as they declared the API not
stable, we can't be sure what is going to change. To be safe, I prefer
to assume that the API can change, that's why it should stay in
 experimental until 1.2.0 is released.

The stable release of gvfs depends on this new API apparently due
to this new feature:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=636132

Do you know when upstream plans to release 1.2.0?

Cheers,

Bug#618790: AST-2011-003: Resource exhaustion in Asterisk Manager Interface

2011-04-22 Thread Tzafrir Cohen
retitlle 618790 asterisk: AST-2011-005: File Descriptor Resource Exhaustion
through TCP
thanks

As you may have noticed, this issue was not yet fixed. Here's a quick
update:

Rapidly opening manager connections, sending invalid data, and closing the
connection can cause Asterisk to exhaust available CPU and memory resources.

Looking further into the issue, I realised that the fix they put there
(break the connection in case of a failed write) does not help a bit.
The real issue is that you can just open a connection, wait as long as
you want, and consume a file descriptor from Asterisk in the process.

I approached Digium with this. They took my initial fix, improved it and
started testing it. Only to realise that this also applies to other
TCP services. Which meant more patching and more testing.

While they were at it, they realised that the test in the Asterisk code
for the system privs in the manager interface is missing altogether in
1.4 and misses an important case in later versions. If you'll look at
the patch in it for Squeeze you'll see that Debian was missing one other
case that was already fixed upstream of some revered logic.

Bug#622309: broken udev

2011-04-22 Thread Julien Wajsberg
Hi,

I can confirm the bug (Network, sound and X input broken)
and the fix (rm -rf /run/udev + reboot).

I also had some of my sensors broken (and it works after the fix).

Regarding the network, actually it worked before the fix, but the
interface name was changed. Although I have no other ethernet card, my
interface is usually named eth2 (before the update, or after the
fix); it was named eth0 after the update and before the fix.

To me the fix is sufficient (of course, we shouldn't not require any
manual fix for the full stable upgrade, but we're not there yet).
BUT it should have been in NEWS.Debian.gz. I shouldn't need to find
this bug and read this to know how to fix the problem. All I got for a
clue is a red udev failed in my boot log, which I don't regularly
read.

Cheers,

Bug#623676: libdbus-1-3: dbus fails and causes other applications to segfault since the last update on debian sid

2011-04-22 Thread Stefano
Package: libdbus-1-3
Version: 1.4.6-1
Severity: critical
Tags: sid experimental
Justification: breaks the whole system

after the last update from libdbus-1-3 1.4.6 to 1.4.8-2 (and dbus and dbus-x11,
same versions), kde startup has failed consistently. Reproducibility is 100%.

/var/log/messages contains quite a bit of the following lines:
kernel: [ 94.235717] plasma-desktop[3805]: segfault at 0 ip 7f8351e74ff6

7fff928364f0 error 4 in libQtCore.so.4.7.2[7f14b0c9b000+29c000]

Then looping on the krunner segfault for a while.

Although it looks like a libQtCore problem, the output of startx
/usr/bin/startkde -- :1 21 points towards dbus:

process 14065: arguments to dbus_message_iter_append_basic() were incorrect,
assertion *bool_p == 0 || *bool_p == 1 failed in file dbus-message.c line
2541.
This is normally a bug in some application using the D-Bus library.
Application::crashHandler() called with signal 11; recent crashes: 1
KCrash: Application 'kwin' crashing...

Downgrade to libdbus-1.4.6 solved the issue completely. Upgrade to 1.5.0 did
not.

In short, the system is stable only for libdbus-1-3 = 1.4.6.

Thanks a lot,
Stefano

Bug#622685: regression memleak

Package: php5

severity 622685 normal
thank you

Hi,

thank you for your bugreport. The issue seems to be serious, but the
severity is not correct. Eating all available memory is a almost
issue which could be circumvented by f.e. setting correct ulimit on
the process. Lowering the severity and I am not sure if this warrants
a stable update (Raphael what do you think?). We will fix it in
unstable when there is a fix.

Coin,

As is, the enforcer refuses to run because the database has not the
right schema, and this whole infrastruture is unusuable, thus the
severity of this bug.

This package should provide the MIGRATION file with migration
instruction from 1.1.x to 1.2.0.

opendnssec-enforcer-* should also provide the corresponding upstream
scripts enforcer/utils/migrate_keyshare_*.pl in the source.

Please note the sqlite3 script has a bug. I provided a fix upstream
here: http://trac.opendnssec.org/ticket/216

Coin,

I've been maintaining gnusound in Debian for years despite no news
from upstream authors. Even without new features and emerging
powerfull softwares, it is still in use by a lot of people[1],
probably as an easy-to-use tool compared to a full-featured but more
complex softwares. Until recently, gnusound built correctly, and it
was included in the Squeeze release, without causing a big workload.
With recent GNOME/GTK libraries, it is no longuer the case, and its
future is now a concern.

I had a look at what is currently causing problems :
  - dependency on libgnomeui, which had been deprecated long ago
  - usage of gnome-config, deprecated long ago too
I made a patch (attached) to remove gnomeui dependency, and rework the
menu bar (to be tested), and it now compiles correctly. Nevertheless,
the gnome-config functions were removed recently, so it cannot link
anymore, and a complete rewrite of this part of the code is needed.
Switching over gconf directly to Gsettings is probably the best path
to follow, but i really do not have the knownledge and time to work on
this part.

Other parts of the software may have such problems in the future of
course, like the libglade-GtkBuilder planned migration, but maybe we
can save this useful software for a few more years.

So, the goal of this mail was to get your opinions, and your help if
we decide to maintain this software a bit longer. If so, a few other
patches were added in Debian in order a fix a few bugs and be able to
build with recent gcc, which could be included in a maintainance
release.

Regards

Bug#623693: openjdk-7: incomplete copyright file and binaries without source

2011-04-22 Thread Torsten Werner
Package: openjdk-7
Version: 7~b130-1.14~pre0-1
Severity: serious
Tags: experimental
Justification: Policy 2.2.1

Hi,

the code in directory rewriter/ seems to AGPL-3 licenced but this is not
documented in the copyright file.

The file jdk.tar.gz ships several *.so files below
test/sun/security/pkcs11/nss/lib/ and I could not find the source for them.

The file langtools.tar.gz ships a file broken.jar without source code.

Cheers,
Torsten

Upgrading from 1.32-1 to 1.34-1 breaks scidavis. It fails with the

Package: qtiplot
Version: 0.9.8-1
Severity: important

qtiplot in testing has an unversioned dependency on
libmuparser0

Having:
  qtiplot 0.9.8-1
  libmuparser0 1.28-2

(that is, qtiplot from testing, libmuparser0 from stable)

seems to work at first, but loading an interesting project,
gives this:
qtiplot: symbol lookup error: qtiplot: undefined symbol:
_ZNK2mu10ParserBase14ValidNameCharsEv

$ ldd -r /usr/bin/qtiplot
/usr/bin/qtiplot: Symbol `_ZTVN2mu6ParserE' has different size in shared
object, consider re-linking
  undefined symbol: _ZNK2mu10ParserBase14ValidNameCharsEv (/usr/bin/qtiplot)
  undefined symbol: _ZN2mu6Parser9SetDecSepEc (/usr/bin/qtiplot)
  undefined symbol: _ZN2mu6Parser11ResetLocaleEv (/usr/bin/qtiplot)
  undefined symbol: _ZN2mu6Parser15SetThousandsSepEc (/usr/bin/qtiplot)
  undefined symbol: _ZN2mu6Parser11OnDetectVarEPSsRiS2_ (/usr/bin/qtiplot)
  undefined symbol: _ZN2mu10ParserBase9SetArgSepEc(/usr/bin/qtiplot)

Upgrading libmuparser0 to 1.32-1 fixes the problem.

So:

1) qtiplot should have a versioned dependency.

Package: qtiplot
Version: 0.9.8-1
Severity: important

qtiplot in testing has an unversioned dependency on
libmuparser0

Having:
  qtiplot 0.9.8-1
  libmuparser0 1.28-2

(that is, qtiplot from testing, libmuparser0 from stable)

seems to work at first, but loading an interesting project,
gives this:
qtiplot: symbol lookup error: qtiplot: undefined symbol:
_ZNK2mu10ParserBase14ValidNameCharsEv

$ ldd -r /usr/bin/qtiplot
/usr/bin/qtiplot: Symbol `_ZTVN2mu6ParserE' has different size in shared
object, consider re-linking
  undefined symbol: _ZNK2mu10ParserBase14ValidNameCharsEv (/usr/bin/qtiplot)
  undefined symbol: _ZN2mu6Parser9SetDecSepEc (/usr/bin/qtiplot)
  undefined symbol: _ZN2mu6Parser11ResetLocaleEv (/usr/bin/qtiplot)
  undefined symbol: _ZN2mu6Parser15SetThousandsSepEc (/usr/bin/qtiplot)
  undefined symbol: _ZN2mu6Parser11OnDetectVarEPSsRiS2_ (/usr/bin/qtiplot)
  undefined symbol: _ZN2mu10ParserBase9SetArgSepEc(/usr/bin/qtiplot)

Upgrading libmuparser0 to 1.32-1 fixes the problem.

So:

1) qtiplot should have a versioned dependency.

1a) If 0.9.8.x fixes more bugs, consider upgrading?

2) Someone should decide, if this is RC?

3) libmuparser0 might need some fixing in its .shlibs file.

Package: qtiplot
Version: 0.9.8.2-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

When I try to set column values in qtiplot it immediately crashes. I tried it
several times including after reinstalling the package. I also tried it on
another computer, with both different hardware and software configuration and
it was the same.

I classified this bug as grave since set column values is the primary tool
for data manipulation and without it almost nothing can be done in qtiplot.

Regards,
KB

Package: libapache2-mod-vhost-ldap
Version: 2.0.6-1

Severity: serious

The commit “Fix wildcard search” [1] in mod_vhost_ldap 2.0.6 is incorrect,
and actually breaks wildcard searches. The code was correct originally
[2], and has been in production use on servers at MIT for two years. But
now it looks for records that literally have ‘\*’ in the hostname instead
of ‘*’, and of course it doesn’t find one.

(Are you sure you haven’t been accidentally testing with records that have
literal backslashes in the hostname, e.g. ‘\*.example.com’? Or perhaps
someone was trying out the patch for wildcard hostnames without my prior
patch that properly escapes LDAP queries [3]?)

I verified the regression from 2.0.5 on a real server, and successfully
tested the patch below on top of 2.0.6. The patch is also available in my
Git repository git://andersk.mit.edu/mod-vhost-ldap.git in the branch
“wildcard”. This branch also has a spelling fix for the example
configuration file.

Subject: [PATCH] Revert incorrect “fix” of wildcard search

It is wrong to add extra backslashes before *, because escaping is
already done by ldap_bv2escaped_filter_value. The extra backslash
made lookups fail.

This partially reverts commit fb5409ad77a245ed0ae746d198b394b580b4de3e.

Package: plasma-desktop
Version: 4:4.4.5-8
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

When starting KDE, at the time when the last icon from the splash screen
shows up, plasma-desktop segfaults, and 2 prompt show up :

* The KDE bug thing that tells me that plasma desktop crashed
* A window telling me that kwin is unstable, and asking me for
  another window manager

From this point, if I re-enter kwin in the box, it keeps on crashing,
and if I change it to openbox, nothings shows up. After that, I get a
new bug window for krunner something like every second. However, yakuake
seems to be working anyway (but nothing else shows up).

At first, I was able to start KDE when choosing KDE/Openbox from the
KDM menu. And when KDE was started, I could just kwin --replace and
everything was fine (excepted ALT+TAB that was not doing anything). Now,
plasma-desktop crashes anyways.

I tried from a blank account, and got the same problems.

I could get some traces :

Package: libdbus-1-3
Version: 1.4.6-1
Severity: critical
Tags: sid experimental
Justification: breaks the whole system

after the last update from libdbus-1-3 1.4.6 to 1.4.8-2 (and dbus and dbus-x11,
same versions), kde startup has failed consistently. Reproducibility is 100%.

/var/log/messages contains quite a bit of the following lines:
kernel: [ 94.235717] plasma-desktop[3805]: segfault at 0 ip 7f8351e74ff6
sp 7fffe944f860 error 4 in libQtCore.so.4.7.2[7f8351ce2000+29c000]

7fff928364f0 error 4 in libQtCore.so.4.7.2[7f14b0c9b000+29c000]

Then looping on the krunner segfault for a while.

Although it looks like a libQtCore problem, the output of startx
/usr/bin/startkde -- :1 21 points towards dbus:

process 14065: arguments to dbus_message_iter_append_basic() were incorrect,
assertion *bool_p == 0 || *bool_p == 1 failed in file dbus-message.c line

Thanks a lot,
Stefano

When I log into KDE, krunner segfaults. This happens every time and I can't get
past KDE 'report crash' wizard because every time I hit Close krunner
segfaults again.

Here is the output in kern.log:

Package: libdbus-1-3
Version: 1.4.6-1
Severity: critical
Tags: sid experimental
Justification: breaks the whole system

after the last update from libdbus-1-3 1.4.6 to 1.4.8-2 (and dbus and dbus-x11,
same versions), kde startup has failed consistently. Reproducibility is 100%.

/var/log/messages contains quite a bit of the following lines:
kernel: [ 94.235717] plasma-desktop[3805]: segfault at 0 ip 7f8351e74ff6
sp 7fffe944f860 error 4 in libQtCore.so.4.7.2[7f8351ce2000+29c000]
kernel: [ 109.306642] krunner[4295]: segfault at 0 ip 7f14b0e2dff6 sp
7fff928364f0 error 4 in libQtCore.so.4.7.2[7f14b0c9b000+29c000]

Then looping on the krunner segfault for a while.

Although it looks like a libQtCore problem, the output of startx
/usr/bin/startkde -- :1 21 points towards dbus:

process 14065: arguments to dbus_message_iter_append_basic() were incorrect,
assertion *bool_p == 0 || *bool_p == 1 failed in file dbus-message.c line

Thanks a lot,
Stefano

I'm no more able to start KDE4 with debian SID, even by deleting ~/.kde)

I see the followings messages in graphical messages box, but the plasma desktop
doesn't launch :
- Il semble de kwin s'est planté plusieurs fois de suite (traduction : It
seems that kwin crash several times
- L'espace de travail Plasma s'est subitement arrêté. (traduction : Plasma

crashed process is krunner. The crash occurs lot of times.

If I launch kwin in a console under xfce (#kwin -replace), I can see the same
error messages and I lost the windows decoration of all the xfce windows.

Bug#623734: monotone: FTBFS: test suite timeout

2011-04-22 Thread Aaron M. Ucko
Source: monotone
Version: 1.0-1
Severity: serious
Justification: fails to build from source

Automatic builds of monotone have been failing because make check runs
for more than 150 minutes without producing any output, suggesting a
hang. Could you please take a look? (If the tests genuinely need so
long, you can arrange to produce periodic output to placate the
autobuilders.)

Bug#623739: [kde-window-manager] Kwin crashes on startup

2011-04-22 Thread MeLON
Package: kde-window-manager
Version: 4:4.4.5-8
Severity: serious

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
After the last update KDE session didn't come up. The kwin process crashed
(along with it's company needed to bring up the session: kded, plasma-desktop
etc. but i would'n know how to trace it properly to attach to bug report).
Happens every time. Kde programs run in a diffrent environment (lxde) run fine.
Anyway, here is a sample gdb output:

After the last update KDE session didn't come up. The kwin process crashed
(along with it's company needed to bring up the session: kded,
plasma-desktop etc. but i would'n know how to trace it properly to attach
to bug report). Happens every time. Kde programs run in a diffrent
environment (lxde) run fine. Anyway, here is a sample gdb output:

There is no need to report duplicates. Upgrade to 4:4.4.5-9 once it is
available in the repositories.

I disagree that it fixes bugs in regression tests to ignore failures.

Please either elaborate on how this was fixed, or (in the future) leave
such bugreports open and instead do _experimental_ debugging builds.

* Turn on verbose output when running tests.

I disagree that it fixes bugs in regression tests to ignore failures.

Please either elaborate on how this was fixed, or (in the future) leave
such bugreports open and instead do _experimental_ debugging builds.

I agree on the principle, but here's an example of upstream policy
about failing tests :
ARM: Set expectations for failing deserializations tests to turn the bot green
http://code.google.com/p/v8/source/detail?r=7588

and the two tests i disabled are deserializations bugs:
I should have explained that.
I noticed upstream usually does not backport to the branches the fixes for ARM,
too.

Jérémy.

Sorry, I do not understand your explanation.

It is not that I require you to explain me the details of this (I do not
expect to really understand libv8 or node!) but please clarify if this
is a) temporarily closing our eyes to brokenness on ARM or b) workaround
for wrong tests applied to ARM or c) uncertainty about relevancy of some
tests being aplied to ARM or d) something else.

If it is a) or c) then I believe it is wrong to disable the tests: We
should figure out what causes the tests to fail and leave the bug open.

Definitely b)
the failing tests are not failures of the javascript interpreter, but of
the compiled cc tests against v8 api : that might be bugs in the tests
themselves or bugs in experimental areas of the api.
Having them pass would have been the icing on the cake, but since it's
very uncommon they do on all archs, because upstream use those tests internaly
and doesn't really care to maintain them in a clean state, i'm going to enable
only the javascript tests (because only them matter anyway).

Package: lucene2
Version: 2.9.3+ds1-1
Severity: normal
User: pkg-db-de...@lists.alioth.debian.org
Usertags: db5.1

Your package currently still uses Berkeley DB version 4.7 (libdb4.7).

However, there is a newer Berkeley DB version in the archive (libdb5.1),
with a compatible API. Berkeley DB version 4.7 will be eventually
removed from unstable in favor of version 5.1.

Please port your package to libdb5.1 as soon as possible. In most cases
only change required is to update build depends from libdb4.7-dev
to libdb-dev, or just recompile the package.

More complicated scenarios:

- Package does check for DB_VERSION_MAJOR == 4 - this should be updated
  to (DB_VERSION_MAJOR  4) || ((DB_VERSION_MAJOR == 4)  (DB_VERSION_MINOR =
XX)).

- Configure checks - sometime there is a list of db-4.7 db-4.6 db-4.2, etc.,
this
needs to be updated to just db (or db-5.1 db-5 db), or at least list the 'db'
  in the front

You can see example patch in cyrus-imapd-2.2:
http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-cyrus-imapd/cyrus-imapd-2.2.git;a=blob;f=debian/patches/99-berkelydb-5.1.dpatch;hb=HEAD

- The packages which use Berkeley DB transactional mode need to upgrade
the database files before the upgrade. This is fairly straightforward
and is well documented on the Berkeley DB website. But you probably
already know that because it's not the first Berkeley DB transition.

The example script can be found in the cyrus-imapd-2.4 (not yet released):
http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-cyrus-imapd/cyrus-imapd-2.4.git;a=blob;f=debian/cyrus-upgrade-db;hb=HEAD

Thanks,

Bug#623775: asterisk: AST-2011-006: Check for system privilege in the manager interface

2011-04-22 Thread Tzafrir Cohen
Package: asterisk
Version: 1:1.6.2.9-2+squeeze2
Justification: user security hole
Severity: grave
Tags: security upstream patch

The 'system' write privilege is required for Asterisk Manager
Interface actions that may result in aexecution of an arbitrary shell
command. However:

* This was not properly tested for asynchronous events
* A previous fix of the logic of this test was not applied in the
  Squeeze version.

Upstream also applied a similar fix in 1.4 but 1.4 (e.g. the version in
Lenny) did not include the test for the 'system' write permission in the
first place and hence such a fix can break existing systems.

Also note that access to the Manager Interface requires authentication.

I think the patch you provided is wrong since there is no
guarantee that en_US.UTF-8 is installed. We also still
don't have a C.UTF-8 locale.

In any case I think it's wrong for any application to
not accept a filename in whatever encoding the filename is
stored in, unrelated to whatever the current locale is set to.
