Bug#620065: fixed in libimobiledevice 1.1.0-3
On Fri, 22 Apr 2011, Julien Lavergne wrote: Le Monday 18 April 2011 à 21:27 +0200, Raphael Hertzog a écrit : Hi, First of all, I wanted to suggest to drop the Conflicts and just keep the Replaces. The Replaces is enough, the only problem is that the FDI file will be lost if libimobiledevice2 is removed while some application still use libimobiledevice1 (the other cases are correctly handled by dpkg whatever the order of installation of the packages). Ok, It sounds reasonable. I'll try to update it this week-end, but feel free to NMU it if it's an emergency. This WE should be fine, thanks. Those uploads will be needed anyway, as I think libimobiledevice2 is/will not be API-compatible with libimobiledevice1. So, could be a moot point. Julien (Lavergne), do you know if this is the case? For now, only new API was added, but as they declared the API not stable, we can't be sure what is going to change. To be safe, I prefer to assume that the API can change, that's why it should stay in experimental until 1.2.0 is released. The stable release of gvfs depends on this new API apparently due to this new feature: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=636132 Do you know when upstream plans to release 1.2.0? Bug#618790: AST-2011-003: Resource exhaustion in Asterisk Manager Interface
retitlle 618790 asterisk: AST-2011-005: File Descriptor Resource Exhaustion through TCP thanks As you may have noticed, this issue was not yet fixed. Here's a quick update: On Fri, Mar 18, 2011 at 02:14:20PM +, Tzafrir Cohen wrote: Package: asterisk Version: 1:1.6.2.9-2+squeeze2 Justification: AST-2011-003: Resource exhaustion in Asterisk Manager Interface Severity: serious Tags: security patch upstream Rapidly opening manager connections, sending invalid data, and closing the connection can cause Asterisk to exhaust available CPU and memory resources. Looking further into the issue, I realised that the fix they put there (break the connection in case of a failed write) does not help a bit. The real issue is that you can just open a connection, wait as long as you want, and consume a file descriptor from Asterisk in the process. I approached Digium with this. They took my initial fix, improved it and started testing it. Only to realise that this also applies to other TCP services. Which meant more patching and more testing. While they were at it, they realised that the test in the Asterisk code for the system privs in the manager interface is missing altogether in 1.4 and misses an important case in later versions. If you'll look at the patch in it for Squeeze you'll see that Debian was missing one other case that was already fixed upstream of some revered logic. -- Tzafrir Cohen icq#16849755 jabber:tzafrir.co...@xorcom.com +972-50-7952406 mailto:tzafrir.co...@xorcom.com http://www.xorcom.com iax:gu...@local.xorcom.com/tzafrir -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#622309: broken udev
Hi, I can confirm the bug (Network, sound and X input broken) and the fix (rm -rf /run/udev + reboot). I also had some of my sensors broken (and it works after the fix). Regarding the network, actually it worked before the fix, but the interface name was changed. Although I have no other ethernet card, my interface is usually named eth2 (before the update, or after the fix); it was named eth0 after the update and before the fix. To me the fix is sufficient (of course, we shouldn't not require any manual fix for the full stable upgrade, but we're not there yet). BUT it should have been in NEWS.Debian.gz. I shouldn't need to find this bug and read this to know how to fix the problem. All I got for a clue is a red udev failed in my boot log, which I don't regularly read. In contrast to my Thinkpad, 167-3 works fine on my EEEPC. Even without new features and emerging powerfull softwares, it is still in use by a lot of people[1], probably as an easy-to-use tool compared to a full-featured but more complex softwares. Until recently, gnusound built correctly, and it was included in the Squeeze release, without causing a big workload. With recent GNOME/GTK libraries, it is no longuer the case, and its future is now a concern. I had a look at what is currently causing problems : - dependency on libgnomeui, which had been deprecated long ago - usage of gnome-config, deprecated long ago too I made a patch (attached) to remove gnomeui dependency, and rework the menu bar (to be tested), and it now compiles correctly. Nevertheless, the gnome-config functions were removed recently, so it cannot link anymore, and a complete rewrite of this part of the code is needed. Switching over gconf directly to Gsettings is probably the best path to follow, but i really do not have the knownledge and time to work on this part. Other parts of the software may have such problems in the future of course, like the libglade-GtkBuilder planned migration, but maybe we can save this useful software for a few more years. So, the goal of this mail was to get your opinions, and your help if we decide to maintain this software a bit longer. If so, a few other patches were added in Debian in order a fix a few bugs and be able to build with recent gcc, which could be included in a maintainance release. I tried it several times including after reinstalling the package. I also tried it on another computer, with both different hardware and software configuration and it was the same. I classified this bug as grave since set column values is the primary tool for data manipulation and without it almost nothing can be done in qtiplot. The code was correct originally [2], and has been in production use on servers at MIT for two years. But now it looks for records that literally have ‘\*’ in the hostname instead of ‘*’, and of course it doesn’t find one. (Are you sure you haven’t been accidentally testing with records that have literal backslashes in the hostname, e.g. ‘\*.example.com’? Or perhaps someone was trying out the patch for wildcard hostnames without my prior patch that properly escapes LDAP queries [3]?) I verified the regression from 2.0.5 on a real server, and successfully tested the patch below on top of 2.0.6. The patch is also available in my Git repository git://andersk.mit.edu/mod-vhost-ldap.git in the branch “wildcard”. This branch also has a spelling fix for the example configuration file. Definitely b) the failing tests are not failures of the javascript interpreter, but of the compiled cc tests against v8 api : that might be bugs in the tests themselves or bugs in experimental areas of the api. Having them pass would have been the icing on the cake, but since it's very uncommon they do on all archs, because upstream use those tests internaly and doesn't really care to maintain them in a clean state, i'm going to enable only the javascript tests (because only them matter anyway). Bug#621398: marked as done (Still uses libdb4.7)
Your message dated Fri, 22 Apr 2011 21:06:15 + with message-id e1qdnyn-00074e...@franck.debian.org and subject line Bug#621398: fixed in lucene2 2.9.4+ds1-1 has caused the Debian Bug report #621398, regarding Still uses libdb4.7 to be marked as done. This means that you claim that the problem has been dealt with. If this is not the case it is now your responsibility to reopen the Bug report if necessary, and/or fix the problem forthwith. (NB: If you are a system administrator and have no idea what this message is talking about, this may indicate a serious mail system misconfiguration somewhere. Please contact ow...@bugs.debian.org immediately.) -- 621398: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=621398 Debian Bug Tracking System Contact ow...@bugs.debian.org with problems ---BeginMessage--- Package: lucene2 Version: 2.9.3+ds1-1 Severity: normal User: pkg-db-de...@lists.alioth.debian.org Usertags: db5.1 Your package currently still uses Berkeley DB version 4.7 (libdb4.7). However, there is a newer Berkeley DB version in the archive (libdb5.1), with a compatible API. Berkeley DB version 4.7 will be eventually removed from unstable in favor of version 5.1. Please port your package to libdb5.1 as soon as possible. In most cases only change required is to update build depends from libdb4.7-dev to libdb-dev, or just recompile the package. More complicated scenarios: - Package does check for DB_VERSION_MAJOR == 4 - this should be updated to (DB_VERSION_MAJOR 4) || ((DB_VERSION_MAJOR == 4) (DB_VERSION_MINOR = XX)). - Configure checks - sometime there is a list of db-4.7 db-4.6 db-4.2, etc., this needs to be updated to just db (or db-5.1 db-5 db), or at least list the 'db' in the front You can see example patch in cyrus-imapd-2.2: http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-cyrus-imapd/cyrus-imapd-2.2.git;a=blob;f=debian/patches/99-berkelydb-5.1.dpatch;hb=HEAD - The packages which use Berkeley DB transactional mode need to upgrade the database files before the upgrade. This is fairly straightforward and is well documented on the Berkeley DB website. But you probably already know that because it's not the first Berkeley DB transition. The example script can be found in the cyrus-imapd-2.4 (not yet released): http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-cyrus-imapd/cyrus-imapd-2.4.git;a=blob;f=debian/cyrus-upgrade-db;hb=HEAD Thanks, -- Ondřej Surý ond...@debian.org -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers maverick-updates APT policy: (500, 'maverick-updates'), (500, 'maverick-security'), (500, 'maverick-proposed'), (500, 'maverick-backports'), (500, 'maverick') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.35-28-generic (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: lucene2 Source-Version: 2.9.4+ds1-1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of lucene2, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: liblucene2-java-doc_2.9.4+ds1-1_all.deb to main/l/lucene2/liblucene2-java-doc_2.9.4+ds1-1_all.deb liblucene2-java_2.9.4+ds1-1_all.deb to main/l/lucene2/liblucene2-java_2.9.4+ds1-1_all.deb lucene2_2.9.4+ds1-1.diff.gz to main/l/lucene2/lucene2_2.9.4+ds1-1.diff.gz lucene2_2.9.4+ds1-1.dsc to main/l/lucene2/lucene2_2.9.4+ds1-1.dsc lucene2_2.9.4+ds1.orig.tar.gz to main/l/lucene2/lucene2_2.9.4+ds1.orig.tar.gz A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. Bug#623775: asterisk: AST-2011-006: Check for system privilege in the manager interface
Package: asterisk Version: 1:1.6.2.9-2+squeeze2 Justification: user security hole Severity: grave Tags: security upstream patch The 'system' write privilege is required for Asterisk Manager Interface actions that may result in aexecution of an arbitrary shell command. However: * This was not properly tested for asynchronous events * A previous fix of the logic of this test was not applied in the Squeeze version. Upstream also applied a similar fix in 1.4 but 1.4 (e.g. the version in Lenny) did not include the test for the 'system' write permission in the first place and hence such a fix can break existing systems. Also note that access to the Manager Interface requires authentication. -- Tzafrir Cohen | tzaf...@jabber.org | VIM is http://tzafrir.org.il || a Mutt's tzaf...@cohens.org.il || best tzaf...@debian.org|| friend -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
