2011/6/5 Mathieu Parent math.par...@gmail.com: 2011/6/5 Ondřej Surý ond...@sury.org: Hi, I have just realized that the same STARTTLS bug affect kolab-cyrus-imapd as well. Ccing Security team, so they can keep track of the security vulnerability. You can find the patch in pkg-cyrus-imapd/cyrus-imapd-2.2 git repository (on alioth) or in cyrus-imapd-2.2 package sources. I would suggest to fix Berkeley DB in one go, since otherwise the bug will prevent building the packager and migration of fixed package to testing. If you don't have a time, please ping me, I'll prepare security uploads and fixes for unstable. Ping. :) Sorry to be that busy those days. No problem, we all are sometimes. I just happen to have some time for Debian now, so I'll take care of it. Bug#628952: minidlna: Possible unknown copyright status of hardcoded image blobs in source code
Hi, Francesco Poli wrote: On Thu, 02 Jun 2011 15:59:11 +0200 Carl Fürstenberg wrote: the source code file icons.c includes binary blobs detailing the NetGear logo and the Tux logo. Hi! I am a debian-legal subscriber, and I would like to comment on this bug report. Thanks a lot for your input, it's very much appreciated. First of all, thanks for spotting this issue and for reporting it. While the source code is licensed under GPL2, the file in question only states following: * Penguin images are the creation of Larry Ewing (lew...@isc.tamu.edu) using The GIMP. More information about the famous Tux the Penguin image here: http://www.isc.tamu.edu/~lewing/linux/ (I'm assuming we are talking about this image, right?) Unfortunately the license is very incomplete and unclear: | Feel free to do whatever you see fit with the images, you are | encouraged to integrate them into other designs that fit your need. [...] | Permission to use and/or modify this image is granted provided | you acknowledge me lew...@isc.tamu.edu and The GIMP if someone asks. I agree that's rather vague, especially regarding commercial use, although commons.wikimedia.org [1] seems to consider it free enough. [1] http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tux.png I tried (back in 2005) to get in touch with Larry Ewing and persuade him that a clearer license should be granted, but I have never received any reply to my messages... You may try to contact him now: it's possible that you turn out to be luckier than me! According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Ewing his current home page is: http://lewing.org/ Maybe the e-mail address shown there is more up-to-date or appropriate... Well I could try, but I'm not very optimistic about it (I guess it's not the first time the issue was brought up to Larry Ewing's attention, and apparently no one was successful so far). I'm thinking the best solution for now is to replace the logo altogether. In Debian we could use the Debian logo, but I don't know what free image to suggest as a replacement upstream. Any suggestions? * NETGEAR images Copyright (c) 2008- NETGEAR, Inc. All Rights Reserved. It doesn't explicit state which licenses these binary blobs are under (there are four of each, two png and two jpeg). Only the tux image is used in the binary package. If this is confirmed, then I think the best thing to do is dropping the NETGEAR images from the source package, and trying to get a GPL-compatible license for the Tux images (I suggest a simple permissive non-copyleft license: the Expat one, http://www.jclark.com/xml/copying.txt ). I had a look at these, and I'm pretty sure they're not eligible for copyright protection (a white 'N' on a blue background is not nearly creative enough). So I don't think there's a problem there; the license header should just be corrected to state that there's no copyright on this particular logo. What do you think? Bug#629416: plymouth: breaks wheeze upgrade with initramfs failure
Package: plymouth Version: 0.8.3-18+b1 Severity: critical Justification: breaks the whole system Hi, I finally upgraded my system to wheezy. As usual, there was a small glich in a package which gave me a bit of surprize. Case: I had plymouth installed with aptitude manually. Upgrade from squeeze version 0.8.3-9.1 to wheezy version 0.8.3-18+b1 performed. old version 0.8.3-9.1: plymouth recommends plymouth-themes-all plymouth-themes-all depends plymouth-themes-script So I have these as autoinstall new version 0.8.3-18+b1: plymouth does not recommend plymouth-themes-all nor plymouth-themes-script So autoinstalled plymouth-themes-script will be removed by aptitude As described in bug#613040, plymouth without plymouth-themes-script will break initramfs generation script causing unbootable system. I think squeeze version fixed it. So the bug#613040 may be closed for squeeze. But wheezy suffer it again. Thus, I files separately. Proposed resolution idea #1: Depends: plymouth-themes-script But this depends on plymouth-drm which depends on plymouth Cyclic dependency ooops. I am not good enough to suggest solution. Proposed resolution idea #2: Make another package split with cleaner dependency Something along: plymoth depends on plymouth-themes-script plymouth-themes-script depends plymouth-drm plymouth-drm suggest plymouth (if this is sufficient) (... I think you know what is needed better than I do. you may need to merge/move package contents etc too.) Regards, Osamu PS: Since I had my system set to a dual boot Debian system, system was actually bootable even after this major brakage. I was also careful enough not to turn off PC while it was broken. But that is not something this package should demand. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (50, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.39-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Like what and how it failed? For one the package list state this file should be included. This is obviously an error given the fact that the file was never intended to be in the package. The failing part: I am trying to build an application - claws-mail - from source. Claws-mail depends on libetpan which adds these parameters to gcc: $ libetpan-config --libs -L/usr/lib -letpan -pthread -lcurl -lexpat -lgnutls -ldb-5.1 -llockfile -lsasl2 First - that's a bug on etpan side, it doesn't need to export all libraries the library depends on, just those you need for linking (which is only -letpan). As you can see libetpan adds -lsasl2 to gcc which causes ld (and libtool) to look for the file libsasl2.la which cannot be found any more. No, it does not. The -lsasl2 causes the linker to look for libsasl2.so (and libsasl2.la if found, but it's not a requirement). To prove that I have just done: apt-get build-dep claws-mail rm /usr/lib/*.la cd /tmp/buildd/claws-mail-3.7.9 dpkg-buildpackage And it works like a charm... I have also tried same thing with upstream source and I can compile it just fine. The linker is even smart enough that it adds needed libraries even in case you link the binary only with -letpan (without all the jingles). Also the libetpan-dev library itself doesn't include .la files. libtool: link: cannot find the library `/usr/lib/libsasl2.la' or unhandled argument `/usr/lib/libsasl2.la' There's no bug on cyrus-sasl2 side, the claws-mail can be compiled OK without any .la file on the system. Your libtool or another part of the build chain must be broken. Or just try doing make distclean; autoreconf -fi; and try building the claws-mail again. Bug#629442: iscsitarget: ietd gives iscsi_trgt: Abort Task errors on high disk load and iscsi connections are dropped
Package: iscsitarget Version: 1.4.20.2-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable We have a system configured as follows: 1 CPU Xeon E5520 quad core 12 GB RAM 24 SATA 1TB disks connected to a 3ware 9650-24M controller The system (I will call it the storage server) is used, also, as an iscsi target for a two node red hat cluster (implemented with Debian machines): the storage server exports an iscsi lun that contains a clustered LVM volum group. The two nodes mounts the iscsi target, then use clvmd of red hat cluster to manage concurrent access to the logical volumes on the clustered volume group. The nodes are used for virtualization with xen with the virtual machines stored in the shared volume group, this allows for live migration of the virtual machines from one node to the other, each node has 32 cores and 32 GB ram. All the three machines (the storage server and the two nodes) are Debian based: the iscsi target server was upgraded from lenny to squeeze one week ago, the two nodes are still on Debian lenny. Tonight and today we experienced two cases of ietd hang-up: while we were doing two I/O intensive operations on the storage server we got the following errors: FIRST OCCURRENCE: Jun 5 23:19:19 san00 kernel: [334912.274409] iscsi_trgt: Abort Task (01) issued on tid:2 lun:0 by sid:562949990973952 (Function Complete) Jun 5 23:19:20 san00 kernel: [334912.634797] iscsi_trgt: Abort Task (01) issued on tid:2 lun:0 by sid:1407374921105920 (Function Complete) Jun 5 23:19:28 san00 kernel: [334920.660528] iscsi_trgt: Abort Task (01) issued on tid:2 lun:0 by sid:562949990973952 (Function Complete) Jun 5 23:19:28 san00 kernel: [334920.660811] iscsi_trgt: Abort Task (01) issued on tid:2 lun:0 by sid:562949990973952 (Function Complete) Jun 5 23:19:28 san00 kernel: [334920.661105] iscsi_trgt: Abort Task (01) issued on tid:2 lun:0 by sid:562949990973952 (Function Complete) Jun 5 23:19:28 san00 kernel: [334920.661357] iscsi_trgt: Abort Task (01) issued on tid:2 lun:0 by sid:1407374921105920 (Function Complete) Jun 5 23:19:28 san00 kernel: [334920.661570] iscsi_trgt: Logical Unit Reset (05) issued on tid:2 lun:0 by sid:562949990973952 (Function Complete) Jun 5 23:19:58 san00 kernel: [334950.930122] iscsi_trgt: Abort Task (01) issued on tid:3 lun:0 by sid:844424984461824 (Function Complete) Jun 5 23:19:59 san00 kernel: [334951.602686] iscsi_trgt: Abort Task (01) issued on tid:3 lun:0 by sid:1688849914593792 (Function Complete) ... However, there is a newer Berkeley DB version in the archive (libdb5.1), with a compatible API. Berkeley DB version 4.7 will be eventually removed from unstable in favor of version 5.1. Please port your package to libdb5.1 as soon as possible. In most cases only change required is to update build depends from libdb4.7-dev to libdb-dev, or just recompile the package. More complicated scenarios: - Package does check for DB_VERSION_MAJOR == 4 - this should be updated to (DB_VERSION_MAJOR 4) || ((DB_VERSION_MAJOR == 4) (DB_VERSION_MINOR = XX)). - Configure checks - sometime there is a list of db-4.7 db-4.6 db-4.2, etc., this needs to be updated to just db (or db-5.1 db-5 db), or at least list the 'db' in the front You can see example patch in cyrus-imapd-2.2: http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-cyrus-imapd/cyrus-imapd-2.2.git;a=blob;f=debian/patches/99-berkelydb-5.1.dpatch;hb=HEAD - The packages which use Berkeley DB transactional mode need to upgrade the database files before the upgrade. This is fairly straightforward and is well documented on the Berkeley DB website. But you probably already know that because it's not the first Berkeley DB transition. The example script can be found in the cyrus-imapd-2.4 (not yet released): http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-cyrus-imapd/cyrus-imapd-2.4.git;a=blob;f=debian/cyrus-upgrade-db;hb=HEAD Thanks, -- Ondřej Surý ond...@debian.org -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers maverick-updates APT policy: (500, 'maverick-updates'), (500, 'maverick-security'), (500, 'maverick-proposed'), (500, 'maverick-backports'), (500, 'maverick') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.35-28-generic (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: kolab-cyrus-imapd Source-Version: 2.2.13p1-0.1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of kolab-cyrus-imapd, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: kolab-cyrus-admin_2.2.13p1-0.1_all.deb to main/k/kolab-cyrus-imapd/kolab-cyrus-admin_2.2.13p1-0.1_all.deb kolab-cyrus-clients_2.2.13p1-0.1_amd64.deb to main/k/kolab-cyrus-imapd/kolab-cyrus-clients_2.2.13p1-0.1_amd64.deb kolab-cyrus-common_2.2.13p1-0.1_amd64.deb to main/k/kolab-cyrus-imapd/kolab-cyrus-common_2.2.13p1-0.1_amd64.deb kolab-cyrus-imapd_2.2.13p1-0.1.diff.gz to main/k/kolab-cyrus-imapd/kolab-cyrus-imapd_2.2.13p1-0.1.diff.gz kolab-cyrus-imapd_2.2.13p1-0.1.dsc to main/k/kolab-cyrus-imapd/kolab-cyrus-imapd_2.2.13p1-0.1.dsc kolab-cyrus-imapd_2.2.13p1-0.1_amd64.deb to main/k/kolab-cyrus-imapd/kolab-cyrus-imapd_2.2.13p1-0.1_amd64.deb kolab-cyrus-imapd_2.2.13p1.orig.tar.gz to main/k/kolab-cyrus-imapd/kolab-cyrus-imapd_2.2.13p1.orig.tar.gz kolab-cyrus-pop3d_2.2.13p1-0.1_amd64.deb to main/k/kolab-cyrus-imapd/kolab-cyrus-pop3d_2.2.13p1-0.1_amd64.deb kolab-libcyrus-imap-perl_2.2.13p1-0.1_amd64.deb to main/k/kolab-cyrus-imapd/kolab-libcyrus-imap-perl_2.2.13p1-0.1_amd64.deb A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. Bug#629270: kino: uninstallable on testing - need to upgrade to libquicktime2
On Sun, 2011-06-05 at 08:41 +0100, Julian Gilbey wrote: kino is currently uninstallable on testing, as it depends on libquicktime1; the current version of libquicktime in testing/unstable is libquicktime2. Please could you rebuild kino (if possible) against the new library? We (the Release Team) tried to do so as part of the libquicktime transition. The binNMUs failed, hence the lack of any kino packages in testing right now; see #621996 for the reason. Such data is locally generated as a result of time-consuming I/O or calculation. The application must be able to regenerate or restore the data. This is clearly not true of the quassel configuration file nor the SQLite database in which all chat logs and other user data are stored. It is supposed to be possible to blow away the contents of /var/cache without any actual loss of data, but that is not the case for this package. /var/lib/quassel would be a more appropriate location according to the FHS and (my interpretation of) Debian's interpretation of them. ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: quassel Source-Version: 0.7.2-1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of quassel, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: quassel-client-kde4_0.7.2-1_i386.deb to main/q/quassel/quassel-client-kde4_0.7.2-1_i386.deb quassel-client_0.7.2-1_i386.deb to main/q/quassel/quassel-client_0.7.2-1_i386.deb quassel-core_0.7.2-1_i386.deb to main/q/quassel/quassel-core_0.7.2-1_i386.deb quassel-data-kde4_0.7.2-1_all.deb to main/q/quassel/quassel-data-kde4_0.7.2-1_all.deb quassel-data_0.7.2-1_all.deb to main/q/quassel/quassel-data_0.7.2-1_all.deb quassel-kde4_0.7.2-1_i386.deb to main/q/quassel/quassel-kde4_0.7.2-1_i386.deb quassel_0.7.2-1.debian.tar.gz to main/q/quassel/quassel_0.7.2-1.debian.tar.gz quassel_0.7.2-1.dsc to main/q/quassel/quassel_0.7.2-1.dsc quassel_0.7.2-1_i386.deb to main/q/quassel/quassel_0.7.2-1_i386.deb quassel_0.7.2.orig.tar.bz2 to main/q/quassel/quassel_0.7.2.orig.tar.bz2 A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. First off, sorry, this is entirely my fault! The multiarch support patch switched LIBDIR to be the multiarch directory, but that should not have been done yet, until eglibc supports the correct triplets on all architectures (specifically i386). This implies that for i386 the installation directory will not match the dynamic linker directory. The former will be i386-linux-gnu and the latter i486-linux-gnu. So this will break for example libedit2 and all its reverse dependencies, including things like openssh-client, postgresql-client or heimdal. The attached patch should fix the issue. Good thing libedit is currently not compilable, so no accidental breakage can happen for now (see my other bug report). :) thanks, guillem diff -Naur pmake-1.111.orig/debian/patches/140_multiarch.diff pmake-1.111/debian/patches/140_multiarch.diff --- pmake-1.111.orig/debian/patches/140_multiarch.diff 2011-05-29 16:08:02.0 +0200 +++ pmake-1.111/debian/patches/140_multiarch.diff 2011-05-31 10:31:10.0 +0200 @@ -336,14 +336,3 @@ CFLAGS+= ${COPTS} a/mk/bsd.own.mk -+++ b/mk/bsd.own.mk -@@ -42,7 +42,7 @@ INFOGRP?= root - INFOOWN?= root - INFOMODE?= ${NONBINMODE} - --LIBDIR?= /usr/lib -+LIBDIR?= /usr/lib/${MACHINE_MULTIARCH} - LINTLIBDIR?= /usr/libdata/lint - LIBGRP?= ${BINGRP} - LIBOWN?= ${BINOWN} ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Version: 1.111-3 On Tue, 2011-05-31 at 11:19:34 +0200, Guillem Jover wrote: Package: pmake Version: 1.111-3 Severity: serious First off, sorry, this is entirely my fault! Bug#616662: new version available, test again?

In any case, the current package FTBFS on armel still - see https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=chromium-browserarch=armelver=11.0.696.71~r86024-1stamp=1306431361 Wait - we're blocking Chrome 11 from entering wheezy because it doesn't compile on ARM? Isn't that platform for small embeded devices where it wouldn't make sense to run Chromium anyways? Can't we make an exception here and upload a package that will migrate to testing and try to make the package build on ARMel in experimental? What am I missing here? :) A. -- Si Dieu existe, j'espère qu'Il a une excuse valable - Daniel Pennac signature.asc Description: Digital signature
